Chub turntables are the most popular. The best spinners and wobblers for a chub

The most effective bait for catching cinchona fish, which hunt in the upper layers of the water. The most common predator in this regard is the chub, he loves to catch all kinds of beetles, frogs, small fish from above, and in general everything that moves in the upper layers of the water. Of course, sometimes the pike often hits the fry in shallow water and in the upper layers, but this is less common.

The best way to catch a chub is. This tackle moves from above the water and creates small waves, which are immediately noticed by the fish. Also, the wobbler usually makes a sound when moving.
In this instruction we will look at how to make simple wobblers, the author decided to make copies under the name L-minnow 44. Apparently, he liked this tackle.

Materials and tools that the author used for homemade products:

List of materials:
- wooden plank;
- thin stainless wire;
- organic glass for the manufacture of blades (metal, plastic or glass is suitable);
- lead (or tin);
- fishing hooks(tees);
- varnish;
- dye;
- drying oil;
- primer;
- epoxy.

Tool list:
- awl;
- pliers;
- files and needles;
- drill;
- sandpaper;
- hacksaw;
- pencil.

Wobbler manufacturing process:

Step one. Draw a profile
First of all, draw the desired profile of the wobbler, you can draw immediately on the board. You can also draw the profile on paper first and then cut it out. When doing, you can print the finished profile on a printer.

As for the type of wood, then here already draw a conclusion experimentally. Try to make from pine, oak, birch ... as an experiment. To make the wobbler heavier, use dense woods and vice versa.

Step two. Cut out a rough profile
Now cut out what you drew on the board. We use a regular hacksaw or jigsaw.

Step three. We grind off the excess
Now we give the wobbler the desired shape, for this we use a file on wood, or better a sharpener. Also, a sharp knife will come to your aid, with the help of it you can cut off unnecessary corners.

Step four. Grinding
Make the workpiece absolutely smooth. At this stage, it should be finished. You will need sandpaper here. First, we use a large one, grind off all the irregularities. Then we gradually reduce the graininess and finally achieve an absolutely smooth surface.

Step five. Markup
Take a pencil and draw a line in front of it. It will indicate the location of the cut where the blade will be installed. Also mark where the holes for the bottom and back stitches are drilled where the hooks will be.

Decide in advance on the angle of the blade, this is a very important point. This value will determine how deep the wobbler will dive when wiring. The width of the blade also affects the game of the wobbler.

Step six. Making loops
We need loops for hanging hooks, as well as for attaching the wobbler to the fishing line. The author makes loops from thin stainless wire using an awl and pliers. You can make two loops at once on the hooks, and the third will be in the bow.

Step seven. Blade slot
In the front of the wobbler, cut a slot for the blade. This can be done with a file. Also make a blade, for this you need plexiglass, a piece of plastic, and so on. A piece of a plastic ruler works well.

Step eight. Install the blade and hinges
Insert the blade into place, and drill the holes for the hinges and screw them into the wood.

Step nine. Wobbler loading
In order for the wobbler to play in the right way, it needs to be soaked a little, for this lead is used. If there is no lead, bolt pieces will do. We drill holes in the "belly" and install weights. Weight is determined experimentally. Attach the weights and try driving the wobbler in the bath. If everything is fine, let's move on.

Step ten. We glue all the details and saturate the wood
The author decided to impregnate the wood with linseed oil so that it does not absorb water. Choose a high-quality drying oil, as it happens that it practically does not dry out.

Attach the hooks to the hinges and spread the epoxy adhesive. Fill the holes with glue and screw the hinges into place. Also glue the blade well using the same epoxy glue.
Also, do not forget to install the weights on the epoxy glue.

Step 11. Priming the workpiece

After impregnation with linseed oil, we apply a primer to the wobbler so that the paint adheres well. After the soil has dried, paint the wobbler from a spray can in silver or another color if desired.

One of the largest strengths river fish is the chub. It is adapted to strong river currents and fast swimming... This fish is semi-predatory - it feeds on both small fish, larvae, crayfish, snails, and plant food.

Instances are not very large sizes(up to 400 grams) live in schools in the middle layers of reservoirs, and larger fish choose deeper places at the bottom.

Experienced fishermen use various baits: worms, small frogs and fish, insects, crayfish or greens, a large mouth of a fish is able to capture a large bait, and powerful teeth will crush it.

To catch a large chub, you need to have the honed skill of a fisherman, because this fish resists when caught, sometimes it is so sharp that the angler does not have time to hook it.

They catch chub with spinning rods, bombards, float gear, feeder or fly fishing. This type of fish is very shy, so fishing for it should be minimally noticeable. It should be very quiet near the fishing spot - you cannot talk, break bushes, knock and stomp - the fish immediately goes away from the shaking of the soil.

Plus, she has good eyesight, so it's better to fish from behind the bushes so that you can't be seen. In one place you will not catch a lot of chub, after catching one fish, the rest will hide away from you.

It is rare, but still possible, to catch a chub in the upper layers of the water, where they look for insects that have fallen into the water. More often you can find prey in the whirlpools on the stream.

Representatives of this species have a strict hierarchy - fry swim in the center of the school, they are surrounded by large fish, and then medium ones. Therefore, the chances of catching a chub of a trophy specimen are not very high.

Chubs are very obstinate fish and show active resistance when caught. When fishing for large fish, the line may break and the hook may even be straightened.

Also, the catching power of the chub depends on the bait. Chub wobblers are often used when fishing for this semi-predator, but in some situations other chub lures work no worse, if not better, than wobblers.

For example, in the autumn period of the year, it is better to catch the chub on the oscillators (there is only one hook on them, which minimizes the chances of catching on bushes or driftwood, because it is there that the large chub is most often located, another plus of the oscillators is that they have more accurate casting, in contrast from wobblers, this is especially important in windy weather).

Spinning lures for a chub

Another lure for catching chub is excellent - spinning lures. Among all the chub lures, the turntables proved to be the most catchy plus they are versatile for different places. fishing and are not picky about the leash.

Lure requirements

As you already know, after the first throw, the chub either bites or leaves, so the bait should work the first time.

Because of this, clear requirements are put forward for turntables:

  • the ability to instantly start;
  • stable work;
  • quickly change the speed of the leash.

Of course, not all models meet these stringent requirements, but only high-quality options, prices for which are higher than for budget options.

The success of the catch for the selected bait directly depends on its presentation, because if the chub did not attack it from the first cast, then it will not take it from the next. Therefore, the bait should be small (from # 0 to # 2) and at the same time be actively "play".

The main thing is not to overdo it with the "game", too intensively "playing" spinner can frighten off large representatives of fish.

Another important point is that excessive noise when casting or a large size of the bait will frighten the chub, so take care of the optimal parameters of the spoon.

Experienced fishermen say that fish also have a saying “There is no companion for taste and color,” that is, each fish has its own taste and preferences in the color of the spoon.

Therefore, beginners who have recently started to master fishing should stock up on spoons of different colors.

When fishing for a chub, the color of the spoon depends on the weather and ranges from a copper petal color to a bronze-brass one.

On a bright sunny day, you need to catch chub on petals of dull colors (copper, dark gold), and on cloudy days - on lighter colors (silvery, light gold).

The most versatile spinner color is golden.

"Fly" on a spoon - pros and cons

Due to the exactingness of the chub, the bait should work flawlessly, the "fly" will help to increase the speed of winding up and stimulate the clarity of the petal, the main thing is to choose it correctly.

But the "fly" has one drawback - the range and accuracy of the throwing changes for the worse. But on small water bodies, when throwing within fifteen meters, this is insignificant and does not affect the success of fishing.

But on large bodies of water, the range and accuracy parameters have great importance, therefore, the "fly" in this case will be superfluous.

Review of lures for chub

The chubs differ from each other, each lover of fishing has his own predilections, but still the most catchy ones stand out among the wide range.

L-Minnow 44

One of the most best baits for fishing for chub. The length of the model is 44 mm, which allows you to fish for small individuals in various bodies of water.

The bait has simple form body and comes in several color options. With such a bait, you can catch not only chub, but also perch, pike, as well as such a type of fish as ide.

Lures Gengoal F and S from Lucky Craft

Wobblers in sizes 3.5 and 4.5 cm are made in Japan and are sinking models. They work well in shallow water layers (up to 0.5 m). The first wobbler works well for catching small fish in the summer, and the second one helps to catch large fish in the fall.

Both lures are capable of easily bypassing underwater driftwood and luring the chub out of their hiding place.

Lures Liberty Booby Zero

They are up to 5 cm long, immersed in water by twenty centimeters and are distinguished by a low-frequency and balanced game. The lures are 50 mm long and can sink to 0.2 m.

Balls of metal placed inside the bait create additional sounds when the leash is in progress. The chub is attracted by the original shape and bright colors of the wobbler. Suitable for shore and boat fishing.

Sexy Minnow 30F by Tsuribito

It features intense play on a leash. It has a small size (3 cm) and works in shallow areas of water bodies (submerges to a depth of 80 cm). Among the catch for such a wobbler may be an ide and a perch.

In-Line

In In-Line lures, the petal is on the axis, there is no bow or earring.

The original shape of the petal and the shape of the axial weight is the main advantage of this type of bait.

A quarter of the length of the petal is a hole for the passage of the axis, part of the petal is bent from the axis, and its front part is bent in the opposite direction.

Thanks to this design, the In-Line turntables operate smoothly in deep parts of water bodies upstream and downstream, at low speeds.

Another advantage of this type of lures is that they easily bypass small obstacles (stones, bushes, underwater driftwood) and avoid bait hooks.

Pay attention to the axle weight. It has a teardrop shape and is attached to the hook with its thick part, this facilitates long and accurate casting.

All of the above advantages of In-Line lures contribute to the capture of trophy chub specimens. With the help of long throwing, you can reach the fish even if it is far from you.

The accuracy of throwing will give the bait to the chub shelters and lure him out of there, and the stable uninterrupted operation of the petal will make it possible to fish with the current.

Spoon Myran for chub

The lures of the Swedish company Myran are distinguished by their stable play on a leash, effective form, accuracy and throwing distance, balanced weight.

There are several types of spinners in this class:

In spinning, in each of its branches, by which I mean a purposeful attitude towards catching fish of one species, there is an unspoken "gentleman's set" of baits, which, as a rule, depend on local specifics in its composition. But there are certainly such lures in these sets that are basic for every angler's arsenal, regardless of latitude and longitude. For example, for lovers of pike fishing - the oscillating spoon "Storling", asp - "Castmaster", catfish - a heavy jig or wobbler.

And here for chub? It seems like, according to the good old Soviet books, there is a combination of " chub - spinner". But lately there are more and more" chub - mini-wobbler "," chub - ultralight jig "or" chub - combined bait ". logical question: what is now the basic bait for a chub, hearing about which most practitioners nod their heads approvingly? For myself, I found the answer - as before, this is a spinner.

Why exactly "turntables"?
The question, I would say, is incorrect (subjective) for the majority of spinning anglers, because the catching power of any lure depends, first of all, on the degree of trust in it on the part of the angler. In other words, if I don’t like it, I’ll hardly achieve it. good results... But to explain my love for "turntables" only, say, "genetic predisposition" would be frivolous on my part. I came up with these spinners because:
a) those showed themselves to be the most catchy (in the case of the chub, of course);

B) they are quite versatile;
c) have an intense "game";
d) are not demanding on wiring, which is important in conditions constrained by snags and algae.
Note, however, that this applies only to "rolling" catching chub, ie. in river sections with moderate fast flow and background depths of 0.5-2 m, as well as fishing in the conditions of small rivers.

Turntable requirements
It is not so much about the requirements for the bait on the part of the spinning player, but on the part of the chub. So, the "chub ultimatum" looks like this.

1. Spinner must meet the "first posting rule". Let me explain: often in order to seduce the one noticed chub, the spinning player has one single cast at his disposal, after which a worthy specimen either attacks or immediately leaves. Therefore, strict requirements are imposed on the "turntable": the ability to quickly start up, stability of operation, the ability to change the speed of the wiring in the widest possible range. It is clear that only high-quality models fully respond to this, and if we bear in mind the small size of the used baits, then there is no alternative to "thoroughbred" spoon baits, with the exception, of course, of successful homemade products.
Important: the rule of the first posting is not a variation on the theme of the fishing imagination, but the result of "sighted" fishing, i.e. situations when the object of the hunt is visible, the behavior of the bait and the reaction of the fish to the spoon.

2. As I already mentioned, the chub "turntable" must be small (but without fanaticism), ie. No. 0-2. However, with all this, the bait should have the most intense "play". And contain as many mutually compatible stimuli as possible (acoustic capsules, "flies", tandems, etc.), because it is much more difficult to "persuade" a chub to bite from subsequent casts than to take it from the first posting. I will say more: if the chub did not consider it necessary to attack the proposed spoon from the first posting, then he will not take it at all. Therefore, success directly depends on the presentation of the bait, as well as on its annoying properties. But busting is also unacceptable here - an overly aggressive "game" of even a small "turntable" can alert - and even frighten off a large chub.

3. The bait should not frighten the fish with excessive noise when casting, large size etc.

Colour

Ichthyologists claim that each individual fish has its own taste preferences. Therefore, it seems to me that the contents of the spinning player's box should shine with all the colors of the rainbow. But here we are looking for a chub "hit". And, if you follow the old bookish dogma, where and so everything rests mainly on the copper color of the petal, at worst - in the bronze-brass color, then in clear sunny weather we catch on dull petals (emphasis on "copper", "gold") , in cloudy - we put lighter ones (range: "silver" - "gold"). And the golden color of the petal is the most versatile.

Needless to say - how rolling fishing is demanding on the weather. It goes without saying that there is sun or at least no rain. According to that theory, "silver", as the brightest, and, therefore, "cloudy" color, falls out of the cage. As a result of my fishing experience, a different point of view was formed: everything is so, only exactly the opposite. The maximum number of bites occurred on silvery petals, followed by "gold", but "copper" and variations on the theme of Black Fury did not live up to my hopes.

"Fly" on a spoon - pros and cons

I repeat, the chub is very picky about the bait, therefore - the work of the "turntable" must be impeccable. And what, if not correctly selected "fly", better stimulates the precise work of the petal, its easy "winding up" ?! On a small river, this is an absolute truth (for today). True, with a "fly" the range and accuracy of casting deteriorates somewhat, but at a short distance (10-15 m, there is no need for further) - this is insignificant. But on a large river, where this range and accuracy are of decisive importance, the "fly" is not the best helper, and here I prefer the classic spinners equipped with a "bare" tee.

"Armature" spinners
By "armature" I mean a combination of a core and beads. There are two classic options: the first is the use of solid metal (maybe plastic) forms, the second is hydro-acoustic capsules (a vivid example is Blue Fox). The first option, if we are not talking about heavy metals (lead, tin, tungsten, etc.), is usually easier than the second. This is very important when "sighted" fishing for chub on the river, when the accuracy of casting and minimization of noise when the bait lands on water plays an important role. That is, roughly: on a small river I prefer solid, relatively light cores, on the banks of a medium and large river - more and more liberal.

Petal shape (Mepps scale)

And again there is a discrepancy between theory and practice. In theory, on the current, spinners with an oblong petal shape (Aglia Long, XD) and lures with a minimum angle of its deviation from the axis of rotation (i.e. the same - and Lusox, theoretically having a record low angle of deviation from the axis of rotation) , and hence - and frontal resistance). From the point of view of a dry theory, in the conditions of a powerful roll current, the leading position should belong to Lusox, Aglia Long, XD (and in this sequence). Comet and Aglia are considered only as lake developments - and, as it were, fall out of fishing. In fact, the "hit" of the 2002/2003 season, and - by a large margin, were petals like ... Comet, and the second place was taken by ... Aglia !!!

Concerning small river, here also the leadership belongs to the Comet, and the front-loaded Lusox also performed well. By the way, if you strictly adhere to the theory, it becomes incomprehensible - why did the reputable company Mepps develop the Thunder Bug petal shape? It seems like the size and design for our fishing is what we need, but, excuse me, a chub in stagnant water is rather an exception, but theoretically, there is nothing special to do on a current with such a wide petal ...

As for the specific sizes of lures, in the context of individual types of petals, I adhere to the following proportions: Comet Nos. 1 and 2; XD Nos. 1 and 2; Aglia Nos. 0-2; Aglia Long Nos. 0-I +; Lusox # 0; Thunder Bug (by the way, in fact, it works tolerably well on the current) №№ 0-2.

Decoration
By "decoration" I mean a combination of the petal's own metallic color (core) and the color of the pattern applied to it. When a company openly "works for a buyer", you will not find any kind of decorations - here you will find outlined insects and scales. I am of the opinion that a fish is a rather reflexive creature, which is not always capable of appreciating the "arts" offered to it at its true worth. So healthy skepticism doesn't hurt here.

In addition, undecorated ones also worked stably, i.e. devoid of streaks and stripes, but purely "gold" and "silver" petals. Sometimes there was a "trout decoration". But the aggressive shine of the stickers - such as flektolite - did not suit the chub's taste. Regardless of the color, the unpretentious patterns in the form of ordinary dots on the petal left the best impression.

Front loading or rear?

Objectively, I fish more with classic spinners with rear loading. There are many reasons for this: firstly, it is very difficult to find a high-quality before unloaded spinner of a chub size, and secondly, according to practice, catchy wiring is simple: it all comes down to the "throw and roll" scheme - no "steps", no jerks ...

The main highlight, in my opinion, lies in the speed of the retrieval: it can vary from very slow, on the verge of breaking the petal (bottom fishing), to "asp" - when the petal captures air during rotation (surface fishing during the mass flight of insects). Why, in this situation, the front loading?
And, finally, thirdly: the chub is very wary of any appendages - like a swivel, a carabiner, not to mention a weight-head with a loop put forward. But, it must be admitted, when fishing at depths of more than 2 m, the alternative to front-loaded light and ultralight "spinners" is very scarce, and more often it is completely absent.

About petal shape

The speed of its rotation directly depends on the shape of the petal. The narrower the petal, the faster and with less resistance the wiring occurs. As a result, the spoon becomes very "fast". And vice versa - wide, rounded petals are more stubborn and slow - and the rotation speed of such is lower.

The chub preferred the Comet to all other options, hence the conclusion: for such fishing, moderately slow "turntables" with an average drag, i.e. a kind of "golden mean", which has "immunity" against the current - and, at the same time, a rather powerful hydroacoustic wave inherent in "lake" petals. In general, what to give the chubs to choose from is a very difficult question. And there is no need to wait for a definite answer ...

Recently, with the development of fishing techniques and the improvement of technical equipment, more and more anglers begin to get involved in fishing for chub on spinning with the use of special baits, wobblers and some other imitations. Of course, hunting for chub with artificial baits can only be successful where there is a lot of this "white" predator. And these are, as a rule, large and fast rivers.

A large class of lures used both in fly fishing and in spinning are palmers and streamers. So, in the fall, with a decrease in food on the surface, chubs feed more and more in the water column, becoming ardent predators and en masse eating juvenile fish, which by this time grows up and goes out into the open from the lodging coastal thickets of aquatic vegetation.

For large chubs, streamers made of reindeer wool, which well imitate gudgeon, turned out to be very attractive at this time. However, these same baits are very catchy in spring, especially after heavy rains.

In the same situation, palmers are effective - loaded imitations of caterpillars, in particular, a furry caterpillar, which is found in abundance in the spring on nettles. When fishing with a spinning rod, the streamer should be slowly, with short jerks, diagonally across the stream at a speed that allows it to move half a water or almost at the very bottom.

To reach the chub from afar and from great depths, streamers and palmers are used as bait on a long diverter lead located about 20-30 cm above the end lead of the required weight.

In this case, the wiring turns out to be exclusively bottom, it is more often used on rifts, on shallow-water ridges with a fast current, or in late autumn in deep holes under rifts.

The bite of a large chub is similar to a hook, smaller fish bite sharply - a blow is transmitted through the rod to the hand. When playing a hooked fish, the current is an ally of the chub, therefore, in order not to expose the tackle to extreme loads, you must try to take the fish to quieter streams and tire it there.

Large chubs in the middle lane begin to lean towards the fish diet already in August, and from that time until late autumn it becomes interesting and prey to hunt them with a spinning rod using baits and wobblers.

As a rule, chubs keep just below the rifts, where the foam whirlpool noticeably calms down, but in dry years they also occupy the rift itself. For catching a chub, tackle of the second class, or, as is now accepted, of the light class, is suitable: a rod 2.4-2.7 meters long with an allowed range of weight of cast lures of 5-25 grams; spinning reel with an open spool that can hold up to 200 meters of line with a diameter of up to 0.2 mm.

It is advisable that the reel meets the Long Cast criterion, since you will need to cast a fairly light bait at the maximum possible distance, and it may happen that the success of fishing in general depends on the casting distance.

However, dressing in a waterproof overalls and going into the water, where possible, approximately up to his chest, the angler can significantly, up to 15-20 meters, reduce the distance between himself and the fish.

The chub, like the asp, which has a developed riding panoramic vision, almost does not react to a spinning player standing deep in the water and dimly dressed and boldly takes the bait when catching short. Naturally, both floaters and fly fishers successfully use this technique when catching cautious chubs.

As practice shows, wobblers, both floating and sinking, are preferable for hunting large chubs. The latter are most needed on the rifts of large rivers, such as the Oka, Volga, Don, when you need to "reach" a distant stream or just get to the border of the current and suvodi - here a meeting with a chub is most likely.

It is good to catch with floating wobblers, rafting them downstream under the overhanging branches of trees and bushes, where chubs lurk in the midday heat and wait there for food falling from the branches. Of the floating lures for fishing on the stream, narrow wobblers of the "Original" type are most suitable for silver - they, when leash against the stream, go with low drag, work stably and look very natural.

As for the size of lures used for spinning chub hunting, this problem is only relevant in relation to the conditions in which they have to be used.

Actually, specifically in the case of a chub with a huge mouth, the size of the bait for the fish itself, within reasonable limits, of course, almost does not matter, and it even happens that he bites much more actively on large wobblers and spinners, especially in autumn.

When choosing a bait by size and weight, you should be guided by only one rule: it should allow you to wire at the lowest possible speed, when the bait does not fall to the bottom and plays stably, without failures.

The most frequently used technique for catching chub on spinning: casting the bait down and across the stream at about 45 degrees or even slightly less and extremely slow posting at the desired depth until the moment when the line stretches along the stream.

The chub's grips, usually expressed as a heavy blunt blow and thus unlike the swift jerk of the asp, most often occur on this trajectory-arc connecting the point of fall of the bait and the final point during its posting.

Quite often, in late autumn, the chub becomes the prey of spinningists, who use jig baits to catch pike perch in the hole closest to the roll. With bottom stepped wiring, both twisters and vibro-tails can be tempting for him, and catching a chub will be successful if you choose a bait that is extremely easy for these conditions.

There is an opinion that chub meat does not have high culinary merits, and he himself is only of sports interest. This is not true. An excellent dish is a large chub stuffed and baked in the oven, especially the autumn one. It is also good when smoked.

But the most original dish of chub is obtained right on a fishing trip, if the fish carcass, without removing the scales, is stuffed inside with spices, wrapped in parchment, oiled paper or simply in large burdock leaves, smeared with clay and buried for an hour and a half under the hot coals of a fisherman's fire.

Baked in this way in its own juice, giving off a smoke, and even under a hunting shot, which is useful after a long standing in cold water, together with emotional fishing tales it turns out to be a culinary delight.

BEST SHINES

For spinning chub, given its omnivorous nature, many lures are suitable, usually used in this sports way fishing. The most universal in this sense are different kinds spinning lures, while lures with a small angle of spread of the petal are used in strong currents - these include lures of the classic "Aglia Long" type, their angle does not exceed 30 degrees.

Such lures are used with low drag, which significantly reduces the twisting of the line and allows the speed of the lure to be varied in a wide range. On a weakened current or for very slow wiring, lures with a petal of the "Comet" type are most often used, having an angle of spread of about 45 degrees.

The most catchy and versatile of this type of lure when fishing on the current, not only chub, but ide and asp, turned out to be known to many spinning players "Comet Black Feury" with black on outside petal and yellow dots on this background.

Recently, spinning lures under the name "Silver Creak", equipped with an eccentric core that prevent the line from twisting, have perfectly proven themselves when fishing for chub. This also made it possible to fish with them on the thinnest braided line, which significantly increases the casting range and increases the sensitivity of the tackle to a bite.

general information

The chub is one of the most common inhabitants of the reservoirs of our country. There are a lot of people who like to catch it. This fish belongs to the carp family. The average weight of a chub is about five hundred grams, although in some rivers there are also larger individuals. There are professionals who can boast of pulled out "trophy" copies, for example, four-kilogram ones.

Where to catch chub

This fish is most often found in non-navigable small rivers. She avoids bodies of water with stagnant water where there is a muddy bottom and a lot of algae. In fast-flowing rivers, the chub is not able to hold on to the rapids for a long time, therefore it tries to find a shelter for itself in the form of a boulder-stone, etc. Usually it keeps the border between the calm and the current.

Having decided on the river, the angler should choose a specific place to fish. If possible, you can explore the reservoir the day before and highlight the most promising areas for yourself. It is necessary to exclude straight and long sections of the river that have a constant landscape, as well as those where there are no depth differences or there is stagnant water. First of all, you should pay attention to natural or artificial cliffs or turns, narrowing or widening of the channel, bridges, etc. The classic place for catching chub is the rifts. They are most often found near inflow estuaries or at widening of the riverbed.

When to catch a chub

As a rule, flocks of these underwater inhabitants are small. Moreover, large specimens are lonely. The chub feeds around the clock. He is omnivorous and loves a variety of foods.

Spring is the period of activity of this river dweller... At this time, the water is gradually cleared of dirt and becomes transparent.
Lavl in April is well caught almost everywhere, especially in the central regions of our country. Since fish spawning occurs at the beginning of this month, after a short rest from spawning, this representative of cyprinids begins to eat, which greatly facilitates fishing. Mid-May and June in more northern regions is the most favorable time for fishing for this silvery beauty. Chub is also good for catching in some rivers in July and August, especially at dawn.

In the autumn, during a gradual decrease in the temperature of both water and air, the biting is less intense. But even during this period, the capture of trophy specimens is possible. It is best to use at this time bottom gear or jig spinning. It is rather difficult to hunt chub in winter, because at this time it usually "stands" in the pits and ignores food.

Features of spring fishing

Spring fishing for this representative of carp begins in most regions from the beginning of March, when the water becomes clear. Those who know what are the most catchy fishing rods and lures for chub this season, rush to the fast rivers in the hope of bringing home a good catch. The best time for spring fishing it is noon and the second half of the day.

The optimal tackle, according to many, is float and bottom fishing rods... Those who have already got their hands on this hunt believe that in the spring the most successful is catching a chub with a May beetle and a worm, although some also use creepers or bark beetles.

Experienced anglers take advantage of this carp's insect weakness. Therefore, after the flight of the May beetle, this particular bait is used. Catching it this season is quite easy, so many people catch this insect with a landing net and put it in a container with holes for free air circulation. Bait the beetle on a hook in the place on the back between the wings so that the sting would come out of its abdomen. This method does not allow the chub to feast on the bitten off part. In this case, the sting should be outside. And since this prey prefers a drowning beetle, the bait must be systematically re-dumped. This improves the bite. In the spring, catching a chub on the May beetle is effective for only seven to ten days, then it begins to "change" the bait.

The better to catch

The equipment for the chub may be different. It needs to be chosen for the season and the specific situation. It can be a donka-supply, float rod, feeder, wobbler and, of course, spinning. Chub can also be hunted with picker tackle.

Donka is most suitable for catching this fish in early May. Rigging for a chub requires a tough, good rod that can withstand heavy loads. Indeed, sometimes quite large specimens come across, and a weak fishing rod may simply not withstand the pressure of this "fighting" prey when fishing. Some people think that because of such a hard rod, the bite is not visible. However, this problem can be easily solved by using a conventional signaling device. Donks for chub are very effective, having a special tip that helps to easily feel the bite.

A float rod is also an excellent tackle for a chub. Her rod should also be very powerful and her line should be 0.18 millimeters thick. Since the spring rivers after high water are full of various hooks, the rigging for the chub necessarily presupposes the presence of a leash. Depending on the baits and baits used, the corresponding hooks from the seventh number to the twelfth are selected.

Spinning

This tackle is best used in May. Spinning for chub fishing can be anything, the main thing is that it has a small weight. The length can vary from two to three and a half meters, depending on the body of water, and the test is from ten to thirty grams. It is best to equip it with a spinning reel. Spinning, according to many professionals, is considered the most suitable tackle for wading fishing. Since the chub at the end of summer very often hides on the river bends, it is very convenient to catch it by going inland for a certain distance, closer to the feeding place. Since the water is already quite warm at this time, it will not be difficult to do this.

Spoon for chub

The catching power of any fish depends on the chosen bait. Often, when fishing for this half-predator, some use a wobbler, but in some situations other options give not the worst, but sometimes even the best effect. For example, in the autumn season, an oscillating spoon for a chub has proven itself best. There is only one hook in it, and this minimizes the chances of snagging on bushes and driftwood - places where most often it hides big booty... Another plus of the spinner is that such a spinner for a chub, unlike a wobbler, has a more accurate casting, which is especially important in windy weather.

Rotating lures

The spinning spoon for the chub is excellent. Among all other lures used on this fish, the spinner proved to be the most catchy. In addition, it is universal for different places and is not demanding on the leash. Lure requirements

It is not enough to know how to fish, you should also choose the right bait for catching the chub. After the first cast, this fish either bites or leaves, and therefore the bait should work the first time. Because of this, quite strict requirements are put forward for spinners: stability of work, the ability to instantly "start" and quickly change the speed of the leash.

Requirements

Naturally, not all models will meet these stringent requirements. Only high-quality options will correspond to them, which are slightly higher than for budget specimens. The success of trolling directly depends on its "presentation", since the chub, which did not attack it from the first cast, will not take it from the next. Therefore, you need to take a small bait - from No. 0 to No. 2 and at the same time actively "play". In this case, the main thing: do not overdo it with the "game", because too intensively "playing" baubles can scare off large specimens.

Another important point is the excessive noise that occurs when casting. Big size the bait also scares the chub, so you should take care of the optimal parameters. Experienced anglers take sets of lures with them to change them depending on the weather, etc.

Those who know how to troll chub with spinning will say that it is best to do it from a boat. This cautious fish does not bite when it senses even the slightest danger. Seeing a person at the water's edge, he usually hides. Therefore, it is better to catch it from a boat that floats freely with the flow. It is believed that the chub, not waiting for danger from the water, observes mainly the shore and responds to the stomp made by its feet. And a boat that glides through the water without a splash has a better chance not to scare away this cautious fish.

The fishing technique here is this: the spinning player floats with the current and tries to find the places of possible parking for the chub. The bait needs to be thrown under the cliffs at the very edges of the water. Usually the chub stands there waiting for the jumping frogs. Prey often grabs the bait reflexively. Usually a lot of bites happen at the moment when the spoon touches the water. Professionals call this approach "the first cast tactics", because, as a rule, this fish is caught immediately or does not bite at all. Subsequent fishing of this place will have no effect. As soon as this carp notices the presence of a fisherman, it hides for a long time.

First of all, you should fish for steep river banks, especially places on bends or bends, as well as islets of grass under cliffs, wooded areas where there are trees hanging over the water, fields of water lilies, especially those bordering on pools or reverse currents.

There are many lures for chub, but they can be divided into two categories - spinners and wobblers. Beginners who are just starting to learn fishing should stock up on them and take with them sets of lures and wobblers of different colors. When fishing for this representative of carp, the color depends on the correctly chosen bait. The color of the spoon should be selected based on the weather. It ranges from copper to bronze-brass. On bright sunny days, you need to catch on petals of dull shades. It can be copper, dark gold, and in cloudy weather - lighter, for example, silvery or light gold tones.

The most versatile color for baubles is considered to be golden or black. For some reason, the chub prefers these shades of petals. For example, the Meps Black Furi lure with orange spots, according to professionals, is very effective. Gold MYRAN Panter # 3 also works well.

Among anglers, there is the following rule: a small-sized spoon attracts mainly a small chub, while large lures for some reason alarming him.

The angling of a silvery handsome man gives a person real pleasure. After all, how much excitement is in finding this cautious prey, discreetly getting close to it at the optimal distance for casting, finding a suitable bait that she will like at the moment, and, having outwitted, persuade it to bite!

It seems like, according to the good old Soviet books, there is a combination of " chub - spinner"But lately there are more and more" chub - mini-wobbler "," chub - ultralight jig "or" chub - combined bait. " For myself, I found the answer - it is still a spinning spoon.

Why exactly "turntables"?
The question, I would say, is incorrect (subjective) for the majority of spinning anglers, because the catching power of any lure depends, first of all, on the degree of trust in it on the part of the angler. In other words, if I don't like it, I’m unlikely to achieve good results. But to explain my love for "turntables" only, say, "genetic predisposition" would be frivolous on my part. I came up with these spinners because:
a) those showed themselves to be the most catchy (in the case of the chub, of course);

b) they are quite versatile;
c) have an intense "game";
d) are not demanding on wiring, which is important in conditions constrained by snags and algae.
Note, however, that this applies only to "rolling" catching chub, ie. in river sections with a moderately fast current and background depths of 0.5-2 m, as well as fishing in small rivers.

3. The bait should not frighten the fish with excessive noise during casting, large size, etc.

True, with the "fly" the range and accuracy of casting deteriorates somewhat, but at a short distance (10-15 m, there is no need for further) - this is insignificant.

Aglia !!!

As for the small river, the Comet also took the lead, and the front-loaded Lusox also performed well.

When a company openly "works for a customer", you will not find any kind of decorations - here you will find outlined insects and scales.

And vice versa - wide rounded petals are more stubborn and slower - and the rotation speed of such is lower.

Where to apply

Chub is typical rheophilus, that is, fish living in running water. He likes to fly- on the rapids, at the exits and entrances to the rapids, on the reverse course, in various whirlpools formed by the eddies of water around underwater obstacles - stones, fallen trees, bridge supports. The chub also likes to stand on an even stream without any visible fluctuations in the flow.

The spinning player must understand well where to put the spoon correctly and along what trajectory it needs to be held. Regardless of whether the angler is fishing from the shore or from a boat it is always necessary to take the right position.

Bait requirements

Chub baits must have the following characteristics:

  1. Stable work. It doesn't matter what kind of lure you are fishing with, it should hold the stream well. If the lure is brought to the surface during the posting, then it is not suitable for catching a chub. The spinner should start up instantly and work consistently throughout the ride. Bites are often followed when the spinner is playing on the verge of petal failure - this feature of the spoon should also be taken into account when choosing a lure.
  2. Range. The chub is a rather cautious fish, so the casting distance is important. Spoons for this parameter outperform wobblers, therefore, in certain cases, they should be preferred.
  3. Casting accuracy. Often there are situations when the bait needs to be placed exactly in the place of the fish splash. Of course, the spinning player must have a set cast, but the type of bait is also important. Lures, especially the swaying ones, have an advantage over other lures, particularly in windy conditions.

Spinning lures

Fishing with spinners is the easiest, so a novice chub hunter should start with her. The fishing industry provides us with a truly unlimited selection of lures. What spinners should you recommend and what should you pay attention to first of all?

  1. The size of the spinner. It is believed that the chub is more prone to react to small lures, so the size of the turntable petal varies from 00 to 2.
  2. Petal shape. It is generally accepted that the Aglia Long shape petal (according to the Mepps classification) works best on a jet. This is really so, and its depth will be maximum, however, sometimes it is required that the lure is kept as close to the surface of the water as possible, and in this case, a lure with an Aglia shape petal will help out.

    The Comet petal is intermediate between the two types of petals. The petal of the Aglia Long shape deviates from the axis by 30 degrees during rotation, and the petal of the Aglia - 60 degrees.

  3. Core shape and size. This characteristic is no less important for successful fishing than the above. The heavier the core, the deeper the spoon will go. Aglia Long Heavy lures and almost all Myran lures have heavy cores. Unloaded spinners are of little use for chub fishing.

    On sale you can find spinners with an eccentric (fish-shaped) core. These are Niakis and Daiwa Silver Creek turntables. They are characterized by excellent flight characteristics and stable operation during the course.

  4. Petal color. The color of the petal can become decisive when catching a chub. In different rivers and in different fishing conditions, the angler must choose the color of the bait on his own. It depends on the color of the water and on the nutritional characteristics of the chub, as well as on the weather during fishing. Black baits almost always work well. The chub is not indifferent to the red color.
  5. Spinner design. In addition to all known spinning lures, in which the petal is attached to the axis by means of a clamp, there are so-called In-Line lures. The petal is located directly on the axis of the spinner. These are the lures of the Panter Martin brand. These turntables work stably at any force.

    Another advantage of In-Line lures is that they freely go around obstacles and fight off branches, snags and stones lying at the bottom.

  6. A fly on a hook. Among anglers there are adherents of spinning lures with a fly or wabik on a tee and supporters of fishing without one. It seems that in the conditions of a particular fishing it is necessary to test both options and empirically find out what exactly the chub prefers. A fly on the hook stabilizes the spinner, but reduces its flight characteristics.

Popular models of spinners for fishing

Spinners Mepps traditionally lead the hit parade. A wide range of colors, spinners with and without flies - the angler has plenty to choose from. Aglia, Comet, Aglia Long, Thunder Bug - you can always find the most suitable lure for chub fishing.

Spoons Myran also worthy of mention. Agat, Mira, Panter, Tony, Akka - each of these lures has a core unique in its design. The petals of all these spinners have a different shape. For example, the Tony has holes along the edge of the petal to create acoustic vibrations, and in addition there is a red fly on the tee. Myran turntables have excellent range. It is recommended to use them when fishing in deep parts of the river.

Turntables that have been known to anglers for a long time Blue fox vibrax in relation to the chub show mediocre results.

Oscillating Spoons

IN last years gained popularity fishing on micro-vibrators... At first, this hobby arose among fans of rainbow trout fishing, and later spread to anglers hunting for perch, ide and chub.

These spinners have advantages, which are deprived of wobblers and spinners. Firstly, in the standard equipment, they are all equipped with a single hook, therefore, they are less prone to hooks, although, unfortunately, the implementation of bites suffers at the same time. Secondly, the casting of the micro-oscillator will be the most accurate and distant, which, as it was emphasized, is sometimes important.

Oscillating Spoons better applied in deeper parts of the river... Neither turntables nor wobblers can be compared with the breadth of the spectrum of colors of spoons.

Almost all top-end micro-vibrators are produced in Japan and are not cheap. Leading brands are Nories, Smith, Water Land, SV Fishing Lures, Daiwa. More budget copies are made in China - Kosadaka, Stinger.

Diy catch bait

To make a micro-oscillator with your own hands, you need special equipment and materials. Making a spinner is much easier. The process of making a spinner for a chub is no different from that in the manufacture of spinners for catching other predators.

The tools that will be required for work are metal scissors (tailor's scissors), a hammer, round-nose pliers, pliers, wire cutters, a teaspoon, a drill.

The materials for making the turntable are the following: sheet copper, brass or cupronickel, steel wire, copper wire, lead weights, beads, triple hooks, primer and nitro paint.

The process of making a spinning spoon consists of several stages:

  1. A petal of the desired size is cut from a sheet of metal.
  2. Using a hammer in a teaspoon, it is given the desired shape.
  3. Holes are drilled in the upper part of the petal.
  4. The copper wire is flattened to make it flat.
  5. A small piece is cut off and drilled along the hole on both sides. The piece of wire is bent and the clamp for attaching the petal is ready.
  6. An oblong lead sinker with a through hole can be used as a core. Another option for making the core is winding copper wire on a steel wire axle.
  7. Assembling the spinner:
    • a steel wire is passed through the hook and twisted around its ear;
    • put on a bead, then the core (see point 6);
    • another bead is put on, then a collar with a petal;
    • a loop is made at the free end of a piece of steel wire - the spoon is ready;
    • if necessary, the spinner is painted. To do this, the petal is first covered with a primer, and then a layer or two of nitro varnish is applied. The petal can be painted on one (outside) side or both. If desired, a drawing can be applied over the paint.

How to catch

To successfully catch a chub, you need a spinning rod of not too fast action, a size 2000 reel equipped with a braided line or fluorocarbon, although a beginner can try his hand at a monofilament line. When fishing from the shore, wading boots or waders are desirable.

Most commonly used spinning chub fishing technique: casting the bait down and across the stream at an angle of about 45 degrees, possibly a little less, and extremely slow retrieving it at the required depth until the moment when the line stretches along the stream.

Chub's grip, usually feels like hard blunt blow most often they occur on this trajectory-arc, connecting the point of fall of the bait and the final point during its posting. A small chub bites sharply, a bite of serious specimens can be felt as a hook, which then begins to move.

Chub hunting is an interesting and exciting activity that requires ingenuity, resourcefulness and skill from the angler. The chub is quite capricious and not everyone succeeds in picking up a key for him. It is all the more pleasant to feel a blow to the hand and to feel how a beautiful and strong fish is walking at the other end of the line.

Chub meat is not highly valued by anglers, so many practice the principle "Catch and release" giving other hobbyists the opportunity to also enjoy catching this predator.
