Universiade football men. Has the team always been so successful

At the World Summer Universiade, which takes place in Chinese Taipei from August 19 to 30, the Russian men's national football team shows incredible results. In the first round of the group stage, the Russians are in the minority at last minutes snatched victory from the Brazilian national team with a score of 3: 2. Following was confidently defeated the Italian team - 3: 0.

Today the Russian team will have the final match of the group stage against the United States, but it has already booked itself a ticket to the quarterfinals ahead of schedule. But from the first or second place of the group, it will become clear today in the afternoon.

Has the team always been so successful?

No. For example, in 2015, at the Universiade in Gwangju, Russians fell into a group with China, Uruguay and Ireland and could not leave it. On group stage the team had only one victory over China (3: 2).

Best achievement our student football team remains gold at the 1987 Summer Universiade, where in the final of the USSR with a crushing score of 5: 0 won South Korea... In 1995, Russia was close to repeating the success, but in the end it was content with bronze. Since then, we have only managed to get close to the podium twice - in 2011 in Shenzhen and in 2013 in Kazan - but both times without success.

What has changed in the national team compared to the 2015 Universiade?

Literally everything. First, instead of Pavel Makeeva team led by Main coach"Strogino" Alexey Sherstnev... Secondly, the composition of the team was completely renewed. None of those who took part in the 2015 Universiade remained in it.

Moreover, representatives of amateur clubs disappeared from the national team. football league, so the overall level of the teams in which the "compilations" are played has grown.

Are there professional footballers in the team?

Yes. All footballers of the Russian student national team play football on professional level... The vast majority are in favor of the PFL teams. For example, 11 "compilations" - footballers of Moscow "Strogino".

However, there are representatives of the FNL and even the Premier League. Defender Mikhail Tikhonov, the son of Andrei Tikhonov, plays for Wings of the Soviets, and the attackers Nikolay Obolsky and Camille Mullin- for Dynamo and Rubin. And this is not surprising - at one time they played for the student team Vladimir Dyadyun, Yuri Gazinsky, Khoren Bayramyan other.

Against the general background, only Lionel Adams. Russian defender of Nigerian descent spent last season in the Armenian Premier League playing for Banants. However, he was called up to the national team as a free agent.

Who is coaching the student team?

Alexey Sherstnev. There were no top clubs in his playing career. He played his first match as a professional footballer for Saturn in 1992, and made his debut in the Premier League only eight years later - with Anji. After finishing his football career, he headed the youth team "Dynamo" born in 1999, and now coaches Strogino.

Do we expect any success this year?

Yes and no. On the one hand, the team met for the first time, and there was little time for preparation to draw conclusions and predictions. On the other hand, the main backbone of the national team and the head coach know each other well from their work at Strogino. It is noteworthy, but it is the mutual understanding within the team that the players and the coach call one of the strongest sides of the current student team.

How does the team manage to show such a result?

On the luggage "Strogino". The bulk of the "compilations" not only managed to play in the Moscow club, but also to achieve good results. In October last year, the team led by Sherstnev won the RFU Cup, and at the start of the 2017/18 season won three victories in four matches.

The level of rivals should also be taken into account. This year Russia found itself in the same group with Italy, Brazil and the United States. The first two - some of the strongest national teams - have already lost to our team. Russian coaching staff I have repeatedly noted the difficulty of playing with these rivals, but their level was quite comparable to ours.

The victories are based on the huge work carried out by the team of Alexei Sherstnev. Before the matches, he conducts a full analysis of the opponent together with assistants Sergey Svechkar, Alexander Shulga and analyst Igor Manannikov. So the team is ready to enter the field physically, psychologically and tactically.

What to expect from the national team next?

Success. The next in line is the US team. American college football is considered one of the most developed in the world, but at the Universiade, the Americans lost both matches with a crushing score. And then - the quarterfinals. And judging by the matches played, this year the Russian national team has every chance of being on the podium.

The 2017 Universiade in Taipei came to an end, the Russian national team at the 29th Summer World Student Games took fourth place in the team event.

6:07 31.08.2017

The 2017 Universiade in Taipei has come to an end, the Russian team in the 29th Summer World student games ah took the fourth place in the overall team classification, for the first time since 2001 in terms of the number of gold medals without getting into the top three teams.

The Universiade lasted from 19 to 30 August. During this time, 271 sets of awards were played in 21 sports, more than 7.5 thousand athletes from 144 countries took part in the competition. The Russian delegation included 348 athletes representing more than a hundred universities in the country, including athletes-students of foreign universities.

The first place in the medal standings was taken by the Japanese team (37-27-37), the second place was taken by the South Korean team (30-22-30), the third place was taken by the Taiwan national team (26-34-30). The Russian national team won 25 gold, 31 silver and 38 bronze medals. In total, the Russians won 94 awards and, in terms of the total number of medals, were second only to the Japanese (101).

Most successful Russian athletes performed in rhythmic gymnastics, where they won seven gold, four silver and two bronze awards. They also showed high results in diving (4-3-3), where the country, in particular, was represented by world champions Ilya Zakharov and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Russian national team won the most awards in swimming - 16, but only two of them are gold (2-5-9).

The difficult position of the athletes

The last time the Russian team remained below the top three was in 2001, when Beijing hosted the Universiade. In the Chinese capital, the Russians also finished fifth, behind teams from Ukraine, Japan, the United States and China.

President of the Russian Student Sports Union Sergei Seyranov, commenting on the results of the competition, singled out two reasons why the national team of the country did not manage to stay in the leading positions. In many ways, the fact that Russian athletes could not perform in Taipei prevented them. The continued suspension of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) allowed the Russians to compete at the Universiade only in a neutral status, as happened at the recent World Championships. athletics, however, it was decided to abandon this idea. Although at the last Universiade, which was held in Kazan, athletes brought the Russian national team 29 medals, 12 of them gold. In Taipei, 50 sets of awards were played in athletics.

“The second blow - we knew that China was ignoring the Universiade, but the fact that they would bring such“ passengers ”, - said Seyranov about the second reason. - Imagine table tennis, and the Chinese have only one gold! As a result, all these medals, which the Chinese (badminton, roller sports, table tennis) were to be conquered, three Asian countries competed against each other: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan. "

Deserved victories

The desire to prove himself with the best side team of Japan, whose capital in three years will host the summer Olympic Games... "Japan has never shown such an attitude to the Universiades before," Seyranov noted. "It's a shame that in the end they remained in the fourth overall team place, everyone worked with great dedication - all the members of the national team."

This was also noted by the country's leadership. Throughout the tournament, the President of Russia noted the contribution to the success of the national team of the winners of the Universiade.

Following the results of the competition, Vitaly Mutko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation for Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, sent a government telegram to the athletes. "You have shown your best sporting qualities, confidently fought with worthy rivals, brought Russia well-deserved medals, "the telegram says.

At the World Summer Universiade, which takes place in Chinese Taipei from August 19 to 30, the Russian men's national football team shows incredible results. In the first round of the group stage, the Russians in the minority in the last minutes snatched victory from the Brazilian national team with a score of 3: 2.

At the group stage, the team had only one victory over China (3: 2).

The best achievement of our student football team remains gold at the 1987 Summer Universiade, where in the final the USSR beat South Korea with a crushing score of 5: 0.

First, instead of Pavel Makeeva the team was headed by the head coach of Strogino Alexey Sherstnev... Secondly, the composition of the team was completely renewed. None of those who took part in the 2015 Universiade remained in it.

Moreover, representatives of the clubs of the amateur football league have disappeared from the national team, so that the overall level of the teams in which the "compilations" are played has grown.

Are there professional footballers in the team?

Yes. All footballers of the Russian student national team play football at a professional level.

Against the general background, only Lionel Adams... The Russian defender of Nigerian descent spent last season in the Armenian Premier League, playing for Banants.

The Russian coaching staff has repeatedly noted the difficulty of playing with these rivals, but their level was quite comparable to ours.
