It's a pity, they didn't catch anything. They stood for a long time, in these stupid hoods, but only caught mosquitoes.

- I should have dived like Papanov in the Diamond Hand. So what did God manage to give you by the age of 22?

Work. Rather, the ability not to turn labor into hard labor. An athlete of the national team has eight workouts a week. I have had a double workout every day for the past year. That is 14. And every workout is a pleasure. When the Russian Championship was held in Kursk, where I won and automatically became the first number, dad sent me a message: Dima, we are proud of you, we are happy that we have you, and we wish you to become the world champion this year. These words have become a stimulus for me, I have kept them. And I read it every day before training.

I ran to the gym after school - Dad perceived it as a whim: Forget it soon, you better study, study ... My sister is just studying with me - my dad still won back at someone - at Moscow State University, at the Faculty of World Politics. He graduated from high school with three fours, the rest - fives ... And when he went to the European Championship among youths under 16, he became the third. Here, for the first time, Dad believed that I could do something in the barbell. I don't remember what he said, I remember that he started helping me. Like a professional. My main dream was to beat him in the combined event. I always, if you needed some combination of numbers - a cipher, a code, - wrote 442.5. Now I have the best amount - 442.5.

- Did you feel sorry for your dad?

Yes, he is glad that there is! Do you know what the coolest moment is? When you hold the barbell and know: now lower it, and you are the first. When you quit, everything - feelings cool down. Maybe that's why I don't like all these congratulations and celebrations. In fact, he did his usual business, his business.

- Of course, you never know champions in Russia! But tell me better, you were in the heavyweight, and then again returned to the category up to 105 kg. What for?

And he is in charge of us, everything that we do with Batya - from his submission, he sets up specifically. He always dreamed that I would become a champion in the category over 105, and he pushed me and my father there. And I'm dry in structure, it's hard for me to gain weight. Vaughn Chigishev (our strongest heavyweight) while gaining these one hundred and thirty kilograms, eats from morning to evening. I tried it, six months, even more, sat in the dining room. As a result, I just developed an aversion to food. I took part in the next competitions, gathered everyone and say: everyone!

It takes a lot of time for the form: that is, cross out two or three years at once. Our Olympic heavyweight champion weighs 160 kilograms, even Chigishev with him - well, it's just hard to fight.

My courage interrupts all the jitters. But this, too, must be brought up in oneself. It used to be like this - he burned before the competition, lost three kilograms per night, but before the World Championships he did not lose at all.

You lie, constantly thinking: how do you lift, how do you not lift, you have already mentally won, and performed poorly, you will perform tomorrow, and you are lying under this blanket ... The body temperature rises, right? And accordingly, energy consumption. So there is a weight loss. Many people cannot sleep. And even after I won, I went to bed. Although someone goes to the city, to a cafe, and I do not like to fumble like that.

- Are you an ascetic, or what?

No, I normally like to take a walk and I am famous for this in the national team, groovy, they say. I sing and dance. I love karaoke. And I choose songs that I can sing. I do not take the first one I come across, but rehearse from the beginning. In general, I always do what I know - I will be good at it.

- Some kind of inconsistency: courage and unwillingness to take risks.

Well, that's not a risk. I just don't like to sound funny.

- Fourteen workouts a week, and the back, legs, what do they say?

Here, restoration plays a major role - this is also professionalism. Anyone can boot, you need to be able to relax. Sometimes in the national team they make fun of them - they come to the bathhouse: Oh, Klokov is back for a massage! And sports massage is not so pleasant, you will not miss it. But I come to the gym and feel good, the workout has not strained me, but they will hang their noses, it hurts here, it hurts there. Because they went into the bathhouse and went out. We were invited to speak at the Arnold-Classic tournament. I packed my bag, as if to go to a neighboring village, went, performed well, won. But, to be honest, I was driving with one task - to take such a photo, I did not think about competitions at all. I won't say that he is my idol, but ...

- Do you respect?

I respect. A man in three directions became the first: politics, cinema, sports. It is worthy of respect.

- And what do the weightlifters call themselves?

I don’t know how, I’ll tell you, how I don’t like it when they call us - pitching. And we are weightlifters and weightlifters. Pancakes are actually disks. But we also call them pancakes. And we observe the signs: for example, you cannot step over the barbell - you will be offended, and you cannot beat it. Some throw, kick her when something goes wrong, especially foreigners. We have this banned.

- Do foreigners have better barbells?

The metal is more elastic. It's good for me, I know how to use it. Generally good for technical athletes. When you hold the barbell on your chest, our bar is rigid, it does not bend, and the foreign barbell sways. If you sit down and catch her wave, it helps. - And the Turks are doping, they were not allowed to the World Championship. Is this a painful topic at all?

Yes, everyone knows what is allowed and what is not. It's just that drugs that are really legal and effective are very expensive. The Slavs are strong, and if everyone is in equal financial conditions, of course, we will be stronger. When we come to the competition, we see how the same Iranians, a rich oil country, simply don’t worry about doping, they come fed up, like on a holiday. It hurts. The rest are depleting their bodies, all injured, angry, hungry, but, true, on the courage - on the character, but we will get out.

- Dima, forgive me, I suddenly remembered completely inopportunely how Chemerkin and Petrov, having won the Olympics in Atlanta, had fun at a press conference about squeezed beds, from which they fell to the floor. Do weightlifters still have fun sleeping?

We push, but where to go? We have been living at the base for years. As a rule, everyone has their own bed, their own number. You arrive - the same bed, the same weight presses, and it is lower and lower. Come on, the main thing is to take the weight. And the bed will not hurt.

Dmitry Klokov has never used steroids or other chemicals to achieve the result. The athlete adhered only to a balanced diet, used biological food additives containing essential proteins and amino acids. Thanks to a balanced training program that includes a number of strength blocks with elements of bodybuilding and powerlifting, the athlete has achieved impressive results in short term... In 2004, the athlete won bronze at the Russian Cup, held in Novgorod, and began professional biography... It took the weightlifter a year to take first place in the 2005 Russian championship. In the same year, having performed at the World Championships in Doha, with the result of 419 kg in total, Dmitry received gold, thereby repeating his father's achievement. The next two years at the world championships, Klokov took third place.


The athlete devotes 2007 to a responsible event - preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games. At the World Championships, held in Saransk, the top three leaders were selected within the Russian team, who were supposed to enter the Olympic team. It was not easy to win the tournament, as five of the strongest weightlifting champions competed in one category - Dmitry Berestov, Gleb Pisarevsky, Vladimir Smorchkov, Dmitry Lapikov and Dmitry Klokov.
