Ukrainian horse. Horse breed: Ukrainian riding horse

Some statistics

In total, there are about 200 different equestrian clubs, bases, stables on the territory of the country, taking into account the most simple and unpretentious ones. There are about thirty large complexes with good infrastructure, arenas and other solid facilities. Although analysts cite a smaller figure, just over a dozen. On the territory of Ukraine

more than one and a half hundred tournaments are held annually, including regional, local and other club ones. In the national calendar, there are much fewer competitions in all sports - just over fifty, mainly in show jumping and dressage. A dozen major international tournaments a level not lower than "three stars". Most of the international tournaments are in dressage.

In total, Ukrainian athletes take part in almost 200 international tournaments, most of which, of course, are European. About 100 athletes are professionally engaged in equestrian sports, the rest are in the status of amateurs or are just starting their way to big sport... The largest number of clubs and, accordingly, active athletes are in Kiev and the capital region (50-60%). More than $ 14 million has already been invested in the development of equestrian sports in Ukraine by joint efforts.

Who is responsible for what?

Organizes, takes care of and is responsible for the development of equestrian sports in Ukraine National federation equestrian sports. Since 2002, a well-known Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Alexander Onishchenko has been elected President of the Federation, who immediately became actively involved in the development of equestrian sports, primarily show jumping. And what is important, Onishchenko spends substantial funds on this.

The development of equestrian sports in Ukraine is engaged, and not unsuccessfully, by several sponsoring organizations. One of the most famous is the international philanthropic organization "TOP Ukraine", which was founded in October 2009 by the same Alexander Onishchenko. "TOP Ukraine" serves not only for the development of equestrian sports, its goal is "the integration of Ukraine into the world cultural space", and the support and development of equestrian sports is only one of the directions.

Any unified system there is no support for equestrian sports in Ukraine, and they do not particularly hope for it (that is, support). The Luhansk equestrian school can be an example of interaction between the Federation, sponsoring organizations and government agencies. This is one of the oldest equestrian schools in Ukraine, which has survived itself, has preserved its traditions, but, like everyone else, suffers from a lack of funds - as they say, it does not live, but survives. But the National Federation and the same Alexander Onishchenko help her to survive. The equestrian school is funded by the local budget, and is trying to earn something on its own. In turn, the National Federation provided the school with four horses (from Belgium and Germany) on loan for the best riders. In addition, scholarships were established for the best Luhansk athletes. And the Lugansk school also has an agreement with the Federation that Lugansk will accept and train promising athletes at its base (with the support of the Federation), using its experience. Such cooperation inspires optimism and hope for future sporting success on all sides.

Clubs and tournaments

Ukrainian sports and calendar geography is determined by several large clubs... The new, modern and already popular equestrian club "Donbass Equicenter" in Donetsk is hosting the four-star international show jumping tournament "Donbass-Tour". Another modern complex with great opportunities - KSK "Parade Allure", which in the Zhashkiv stud farm, on a large scale organizes on its territory most of the national tournaments, namely the championships of Ukraine in show jumping, dressage and triathlon, as well as stages of the Cup of the President of Ukraine in show jumping. Dressage was chosen by two other Ukrainian equestrian leaders - KSK Magnat and Vian Arena, both located in the capital region. These two centers host several international three-star dressage tournaments every year.

Horseback Riding

Show jumping is the most developed in Ukraine, as in many other countries. Oleg Krasyuk remains the leading show jumping athlete. Oleg is a 100% Ukrainian rider, born in a small town in the Dnipropetrovsk region, has been engaged in equestrian sports since childhood. He received lessons in show jumping from the Olympic champion Viktor Poganovsky. Its big sports career is indebted to the main sponsor and patron of Ukrainian equestrian sports Alexander Onishchenko. After Krasyuk's victory at the Ukrainian Championship in 1997, Alexander Onishchenko took him under his wing and sent him on an internship to the famous Paul Schockemülle. Now Oleg is constantly training in Austria and represents Ukraine at international tournaments.

Oleksandr Onishchenko himself is no less actively involved in show jumping, being a kind of unique “acting sponsor”. Onishchenko himself is a member of the national team and takes part in international tournaments.

Ukrainian show jumping loudly announced itself for the first time five years ago, when, thanks to the support of Alexander Onishchenko, two teams of Ukraine - show jumping and dressage - came to the World Equestrian Games for the first time in history. The debut was successful, the Ukrainian show jumping took fourth place and got a ticket to the 2008 Olympics in China. In China, the national team of Ukraine took 12th place. So, for several years, the Ukrainian show jumping made an incredible leap forward and achieved results that the horsemen of the post-Soviet space could only dream of.

Dressage traditionally lags behind show jumping in popularity, but shows stable success in the international arena. The leader of the Ukrainian dressage today is Svetlana Kiseleva, performing on the Ukrainian riding Paris. She has a real chance of getting to the 2012 Olympics. This is all the more valuable because Ukrainian horsemen have never taken part in Olympic tournament dressage. The successful development of Ukrainian dressage is also confirmed by the fact that for the first time the World Cup in Dressage for the Central European league will be held in Ukraine, in the Zhashkovsky stud farm, in late March - early April next year.

As for triathlon, in Ukraine it is not the level of athletes that amazes more, but the scale of the organization and holding of the national championship about triathlon, which took place in Zhashkiv equestrian center... There is a chance that following the level of competition, the level of athletes will certainly rise.

From other equestrian sports to recent times distance horse races were developed. In 2005-2006 in different parts In Ukraine, championships and cups began to take place, and in 2007 the first national championship in this form was held.

Legionnaires

The main engine and generator of the development of Ukrainian equestrian sports are legionnaires. Alexander Onishchenko unexpectedly managed to apply this football and hockey technique to equestrian sports.

About 6 years ago, on the eve of the World Equestrian Games, Onishchenko invited several European athletes to Ukraine at once. And it’s not just to hold a master class, training or take part in a tournament, but neither more nor less - become members of the national equestrian team and represent Ukraine at the World Equestrian Games and the Olympics. Realizing perfectly well that it is not realistic to raise his own Pessoas in a couple of years, Alexander Onishchenko decided to buy ready-made professionals. This is a common practice in football, hockey, basketball, but for equestrian sports it was nonsense.

The Germans Katarina Offel and Bjorn Nagel, the Belgians Gregory Vatele and Jean-Claude van Genberge agreed to Onishchenko's proposal. The riders quickly received Ukrainian citizenship and went to the 2006 World Equestrian Games. This decision caused a lot of controversy and objections. On the one hand, the legionnaires immediately brought success to the Ukrainian team. On the other hand, there were fears that no one would be able to educate their own, national, athletes, because it is easier and faster to buy an already trained rider, for example, in Germany, where there are an abundance of athletes and there is great competition between them.

Disputes - disputes, but the legionnaires continue to live, work and play for Ukraine. Bjorn Nagel and Katharina Offel settled in Donetsk, where they train at the Donbass Equicenter. Jean-Claude van Genberghe also stayed to work in Donetsk, but, unfortunately, he died in May 2009 right during the first stage of the Donbass Tour tournament, a few hours after winning the qualifying route and the award ceremony. It so happened that in history he remained Ukrainian

skim rider. But the sport must continue, so the retired foreign rider was replaced by another - the Italian Cassio Rivetti.

A little later, dressage prima Anke van Grunswen began to actively cooperate with Ukrainian equestrian sports under a five-year contract with the Vian Group company. Now Anke is training riders from the Vian Group - those who ride horses with the Vian prefix - Inna Logutenkova, Varvara Sorokina and Po-

Linu Reves. V free time According to an agreement with the Vian Group, prima dressage trains some of the riders privately. Let's immediately dispel the myth that Anke van Grunsven is coaching the Ukrainian national team - this is not the case. For example, the coach of the leading rider of Ukraine Svetlana Kiseleva is Yuriy Kovshov.

Equestrian legionnaire in Ukraine caused a controversial assessment in International Federation equestrian sports. The FEI officials did not like the idea of free sale and purchase of athletes, and after the noisy debut of the national, but not Ukrainian (!) Team on the international arena, the FEI decided to regulate this process. Now, if a rider wants to compete under the flag of another country at the Olympics, he must obtain citizenship at least three years before the Olympics and have a place of residence there, and compete on a horse belonging to a citizen of the country whose flag he is competing for. So now no one will be able to buy a legionnaire a year before the Olympics for a quick and short-term effect.

Amater does not mean dilettante

There are many layers, layers and directions in the equestrian sport of Ukraine. One of them, active and developing,

sya is an amateur sport. Some are fans of watching competitions, others are eager to get into the saddle themselves, to go to the start, but at the same time they do not strive to make equestrian sport a business of their life and a source of income. That is, they do not want to be professionals and call themselves a beautiful foreign word - amateurs. One of the amateurs, an athlete performing in the amateur class, Sergey Fedorovich Doroshenko, told ZM about the amateur movement in Ukraine.

ZM: What do you think is the reason for the active development of the amateur movement in Ukraine?

SD: Equestrian sport has an incredible appeal. At first, people are simply interested in equestrian sports - they come to watch the performances. Then they buy horses or receive them as gifts, and begin to ride themselves. Gradually comes the desire to take part in competitions. A person performs at competitions once, gets imbued with the atmosphere of sports as a holiday, gets carried away, brings his friends and acquaintances ... And so every year more and more people who want to go in for equestrian sports appear.

ZM: What do you personally benefit from communicating with horses, participating in competitions?

SD: A lot of positive and fun.

ZM: Do equestrian sports and socializing in a certain circle of people in your main business help you?

SD: A wide circle of contacts and new contacts are a big plus in any business. In the equestrian world there are many good people, bad ones don't come to horses. Communication with such people is useful and pleasant in any case.

ZM: What would you like to wish to amateurs who are just starting to practice equestrian sports?

SD: Love for horses, passion, dedication and, of course, success!

Who will bring up the future generation?

V last years Ukraine has received modern equestrian sports facilities, excellent competition grounds and has declared itself on the international arena. But, as Ukrainian experts themselves admit, they have the same problems with children's sports as in Russia. There are no equestrian schools similar in level and scope to the largest equestrian clubs for adults in Ukraine. As in Russia, mass children's equestrian sports do not yet exist in this country. But they are seriously concerned about this problem and consider development children's sports... So the first step has been taken - the problem has been identified, I want to solve it, which means that the Ukrainian colleagues should succeed.

If in equestrian sports it is difficult for a young rider to realize his dream, then for young people who want to devote themselves to the hippodrome business, there are chances. In Ukraine, the only educational institution that prepares specialists for hippodromes has survived and is successfully operating. An analogue of the Russian Khrenovsky school. It is about the Mirogoschansk Agrarian College (near the city of Lutsk), where now you can get the specialty of a trainer of trotting and riding horses.

a big problem. You can get an education, but where to go later? The situation with hippodromes in Ukraine is roughly similar to that in Russia. But this is a completely different story and we will talk about it in the next issues of the magazine.

Peculiarities
Modern horses Ukrainian riding breed, especially its pedigree nucleus, are quite pedigree, riding format, dry strong constitution, without significant exterior defects, owners of beautiful external forms. They are kind and undemanding to the conditions of keeping in comparison with some of the original breeds.
Origin
Work on the creation of a horse-harness type horse in Ukraine began immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War on the initiative of the Marshal Soviet Union CM. Budyonny. It was carried out at first in the Ukrainian stud farm, which received 275 trophy mares (vernier, hydran, north-star, furioso) mainly with the brands of the Hungarian stud farm Mesohegyes. At the same time, trophy stallions of the Hanoverian, Trakehner, Hungarian, thoroughbred riding breeds and their crosses were brought in. When creating the Ukrainian riding breed, horses of more than 11 breeds were used. The main breeds were: thoroughbred horse, Trakehner, Hungarian, Russian horse, less used horses of the Hanoverian, Arab, and Akhal-Teke breeds. Great importance in the creation and improvement of the breed, it was used in breeding work of stallions and mares, carrying the blood of the Russian riding breed.

With the beginning of the country's participation in big equestrian sports ( Olympic Games ah) high-breed, smart and elegant horses were required. In the breeding work to create the Ukrainian riding horse breed, mares were used - daughters and granddaughters of the black stallion of the Russian riding breed Buket, born in 1934 from Ozherelk and Balalaika, as well as the daughter of Globus, black, born in 1934 from Obrazchik and Goduvalnitsa. Among them were the mares Bylinka, Gvozdika, who left the greatest mark on the Ukrainian riding breed and were the ancestors of the brood families. Of the stud stallions with Orlovo-Rostopchin blood, the stallions Bespechny and Grokhot were used, and later their descendants were stallions Inbar, Razbor, Berendey, Khorey, etc.

Horses of the Ukrainian riding breed were widespread in a number of union republics and abroad. For example, in the period from 1980 to 1989, more than 3000 breeding and sport horses, of which various sports organizations- about 600 heads. During the period from 1975 to 2000, 318 winners and prize-winners of international and domestic equestrian competitions were received in the breed, including dressage - 128, show jumping - 96, triathlon - 74. The breed was approved in 1990 (formerly the Ukrainian breed group - UPG ), at the same time its genealogical structure was also approved - 6 male lines, 2 related groups and 15 uterine families.

It's no secret that it was in Ukraine that horse breeding was well developed. Of all the republics, Russia and Kazakhstan were the first, and in Ukraine, factories still breed various breeds, including Orlov. But the Ukrainian horse breed is considered national.

Horses of this wonderful breed are always very tall. Ukrainian riding horse breed has a developed body and harmonious constitution.

People have always wanted to have a four-legged helper, playful, handsome, strong, enduring, so they devoted their knowledge and time to this animal. This can be confirmed not only by the Ukrainian, but also by the related Russian breed. Currently, horse breeding is not very developed in the former republics of the Soviet Union.

The Ukrainian horse breed was sold to other republics and abroad. More than 300 champions of various equestrian sports competitions can be counted in 25 years. It is believed that 15 queens became the ancestors of the Ukrainians. In the 80s, horse breeding in Ukraine flourished, but then a lot was plundered.

90 years have become a real test for the breed. Chaos and lawlessness ensued, the best horses were taken to other countries, and the situation was so unstable that all the successes in horse breeding were forgotten. Now breeders have more than 20 producers, 400 mares and 700 young horses.

Tribal lines

  • Careless:

Born in 1953 at the Kirov stud farm. In his veins flows the blood of a Russian horseman from Buket's father and a Trakehner blood from a mother named Plastic. Careless showed excellent results in sports, and then he was sent as a manufacturer to factories.

  • Trunk:

Date of birth - 1949. The place is the same. His parents are Trakehner breed. The trunk also gave excellent results in various competitions.

  • Factorum:

Born in 1952, he is considered a thoroughbred horse.

It must be said that residents of Orlov and Rostopchins must be present in the gene pool.

The Ukrainian horse breed is bred mainly for sports. Horses are shown in show jumping as well as on the road. Sometimes used in triathlon. Among all breeds bred on the territory of Ukraine, it is considered dominant.

Excellent physical qualities

Horses are quick to learn the elements and can soon participate in horse racing. They are very popular, as they give excellent results, as evidenced by victories, including at international, for example, the Olympic Games.

The breed is currently being improved using breeds from Europe. Experts use latest technology, for example, an ultrasound scan for mares, with which you can find out if a mare is pregnant and how the fetus is developing. Also mares are artificially inseminated. The accumulated experience made it possible to train experts, so the breed became popular again. It is purchased by Russia, Belarus and Poland. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, they began to revive and develop horse breeding. The state allocates subsidies for horses, not only for the Ukrainian, but also for the Hutsul and Novo Aleksandrovsky heavy trucks.

When the Olympics were held in Moscow, three horses of the Ukrainian breed and their riders took the highest places. An auction was held in Kiev, where more than 70 stallions were sold.

Of all Ukrainian horseback riding, the most famous is Bach. The stallion was sold for a hundred thousand dollars. When Bach began to constantly occupy third place in the world ranking, he began to cost much more - 500 thousand dollars.

Postage stamp of Ukraine

Ukrainian horse(breed), Ukrainian riding horse- a relatively new breed of horses, bred in Ukraine after the Second World War for the needs of equestrian sports. The breed was approved in 1990, and before that the Ukrainian breed group was called.

History

The creation of a horse-drawn horse type in Ukraine began immediately after the end of World War II at the Ukrainian stud farm, where trophy horses were received. In 1953, work began on the breeding of a horse breed, which was associated with the development of equestrian sports in Ukraine and the participation of domestic athletes in the Olympic Games.

The work was coordinated by the Institute of Animal Husbandry of the Forest-Steppe and Polesye of the Ukrainian SSR (now the Institute of Animal Husbandry of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Kharkov) under the leadership of Professor D. A. Volkov.

More than 11 breeds of horses were used to breed Ukrainian riding. The main ones were: thoroughbred horse, Trakehner, Hungarian, Russian horse, less used horses of the Hanoverian, Arab and Akhal-Teke subgenus.

Long-term selection work has resulted in a large homogeneous group of sports horses suitable for classic equestrian sports (dressage, show jumping, triathlon), equestrian tourism, rental and national games.

The horse breed became popular after the XIX Olympic Games (1968) in Mexico City, where Ivan Kizimov, an athlete from the USSR, received a gold medal in the high school of equestrian competition, performing in a 10-year-old dark chestnut Ichor. At the Moscow Olympics (1980), three Soviet riders - Vera Misevich on the Raft, Yuri Kovshov on Igraka and Viktor Ugryumov on the Shkval - steel Olympic champions in the team dressage event.

In the period from 1975 to 2000, on horses of the Ukrainian riding breed, athletes won 318 times or received prizes at international and national equestrian competitions, including 128 in dressage, 96 in show jumping, and 74 in triathlon.

At the first auction of the Kiev International Horse Auction, which was opened in 1975, only Ukrainian riding horses were sold. Received $ 131,600 for 78 votes.

Work on the improvement of the Ukrainian horse breed is carried out at seven stud farms, about 20 breeding farms, in which there are almost 1700 heads.

Characteristic

Ukrainian horseback has seven lines, twelve families. The exterior of the horses is marked by a harmonious body structure, the head is proportional, with a straight profile, a long, high-set neck, a deep and wide chest, a straight back, long, well-muscled croup, strong limbs.

Measurements of stallions-producers of the Ukrainian breed, recorded in the State Book, are as follows: height at the withers - 164.3 cm, oblique body length - 164.2, chest girth - 191.2, cannon girth - 20.8. The main

Distinctive properties of the Ukrainian horse breed are their elegance, good nature, ease of management, exceptional endurance, relative undemanding to the conditions of keeping and high sports qualities.

Exterior

The breed combines the best qualities of the original breeds: vigor, dryness, strength of the constitution of a thoroughbred horse; high growth, massiveness and boneiness of Western European; beautiful forms of the Orlovo-Rostopchin breed, which became famous all over the world for horses of an outstanding and unique exterior.

Horses of the Ukrainian riding breed are characterized by a proportional head, a well-defined withers, a sufficiently long and straight back, an even loin, a long wide and normal slope of the croup, a wide and deep chest, a well-developed massive body, an oblique shoulder blade, correct structure and positioning of the limbs, good free movements , calm and docile disposition.

Of the shortcomings, the most common are a soft back, a slightly sunken lower back, saberness, sweeping, proliferation of the heads of the slate bones, interception under the wrist, insufficient depth of the hock joints.

Peculiarities
Modern horses of the Ukrainian riding breed, especially its pedigree nucleus, are quite pedigree, riding format, dry strong constitution, without significant exterior defects, owners of beautiful external forms. They are kind and undemanding to the conditions of keeping in comparison with some of the original breeds.

Porda history

Ukraine with its fertile lands has always been famous for its highly developed horse breeding. Its southern Russian steppes have long been chosen by the peoples engaged in animal husbandry. The Scythians lived here, during the "Great Migration of Peoples" the Khazars, Pechenegs, Polovtsians roamed, in the 13th century the hordes of Genghis Khan and Baty rushed like a fiery avalanche, the vassals of the Turkish Sultan - the Krymchaks - raided southern Russia.

To fight the unexpected guests, the indigenous population was forced to create a mobile cavalry army, which was the famous Zaporozhye Sich. The Cossacks, who borrowed the experience of the steppe dwellers, created their own medium-sized, but fast and hardy horse. After resettling to the Kuban (1792), the Cossacks took with them the herds, under the influence of which the Black Sea breed was later created, which subsequently influenced the Don. In the second half of the 18th century, stud farms were created in Ukraine - Derkul, Ukrainian, Alexandria, etc.

Purposeful breeding work was carried out in these factories: the Strelets breed was created, wonderful Anglo-Arab horses were bred in the Novo-Aleksandrovsky plant, and Orlovo-Rostopchinsky horses in Limarevsky. During the First World War and the Civil War, the stud farms lost their entire composition, and only a few specimens remained from the Streletskaya and Orlovo-Trample breeds (Tselindr, Connoisseur, Fundator, Bouquet, Globe, Biology), which were later used in the work on the creation of Terek, Ukrainian and Russian riding breeds.

Later, breeding work in horse breeding was resumed, and by the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in Ukraine, groups of excellent riding horses were created, which were used in the army and for manning brood herds of various stud farms and farms. During the war, horse breeding in Ukraine was almost completely lost, and therefore, after the war, the question arose about the need to create a horse that would approach the Orlovo-Rostopchinskaya horse for the needs of the army and agriculture. For this purpose, at the stud farms of Ukraine, on the initiative of S.M. Budyonny began to concentrate the most valuable local mares - queens and stallions of Western European breeds - Hungarian, Hanoverian, Trakehner and purebred. Plant specialists began systematic purposeful breeding work to create a new type of large riding horse. An outstanding role in this work was played by the Orlovo-Rostopchinsky Bouquet and the son of the Orlovo-ratopchinka mare Carnation Roar. Various repeated and alternating crosses were carried out, and as a result, over 40 years of work, a large group of homogeneous, large, massive horses of universal sports and harness-work use was created.

Breeding was carried out in three stages:
First (1945 - 1951)

The specialists were guided by the plans drawn up by the All-Russian Research Institute of Horse Breeding. The selection was carried out according to a complex of characters, taking into account the origin, body type, exterior characteristics characteristic of the future breed, while maintaining the versatility of the type outlined in the prospective breeding plans. Numerous half-bred mares of local origin, as well as Trakehner, Hungarian (Vernius, furioso), Hanoverian, who came from military units, were used as a broodstock, and Trakehner, Hanoverian, Hungarian, thoroughbred riding stallions were used as producers. This period is characterized by the accumulation of cross-breeds of the 1st generation of the riding-harness type:

  • Mares of Hungarian breeds (Vernier, Hydran, Furioso) were covered with stallions of Trakehner, Hanoverian, thoroughbred riding breeds;
  • Crossbred mares of the English thoroughbred breed on a local basis were covered with stallions of the Hungarian, Trakehner, Hanoverian breeds;
  • The crosses obtained according to the indicated schemes were divided into large, medium, lightweight and "out of type" with subsequent crossing taking into account the body type: large mares with a pronounced draft type were crossed with English purebred stallions, medium mares - with Trakehner, English thoroughbred, and also taking into account exterior features with Hanoverian or Hungarian stallions, mares "out of type" - again with stallions of one of the original breeds.

Second (1952 - 1959)

It is characterized by the rapid accumulation of the best genotypes obtained on the basis of multi-breed crossing. As a result of the application of various methods of selection, an array of horses was created that meet the requirements of the "model" outlined in the long-term plans, according to which a certain type of physique, specific methods of constructing pedigrees, and characteristic exterior signs were provided. The following crossing scheme was used:
A) Hanoverian, Traceno, Anglo-Hanoverian-Hungarian mares were crossed with large stallions of the English thoroughbred breed;
B) Anglo-Trakehner mares were crossed with Hungarian stallions, and Anglo-Hungarian - with Trakehner stallions;
C) large riding horses were selected for the production stock, they were divided into thick, basic and lightweight types, followed by crossing with stallions of the original breeds: thick type mares - with English thoroughbreds, mares of the main type - with Trakehner, lightweight mares - with Hungarian or Trakehner ...
Third (1959 - 1984)

The specialists were guided by breeding plans drawn up by the Research Institute of Animal Husbandry in the Forest-Steppe and Polesye of the Ukrainian SSR. It was widely practiced to breed "in itself" hybrids of the desired type, taking into account:

  • Trakehner-Hungarian, Anglo-Hungarian, Anglo-Trakehner-Hungarian mares, taking into account the body type, were crossed with stallions of Trakehner, Hanoversek, English purebred breeds;
  • Crossbred mares of the same breed combinations of the most desirable type were crossed with stallions with the blood of the Orlovo-Rostopchinsky breed;
  • Crossbreeds of the desired type were bred in themselves with a repetition of the desired genealogical complexes in the pedigree: Anglo-Trakehne-Hungarian mares were bred with stallions with the blood of the Orlovo-Rostopchin breed; Anglo-Russian-Trakehner or Anglo-Russian-Trakehner-Hungarian mares were crossed with stallions of Russian-Trakehner and other genealogical combinations in order to consolidate the desired type.

After 1982, in breeding work with the Ukrainian breed group, horses of the Arabian, Akhal-Teke, Terek breeds began to be used to a limited extent. Also, in accordance with the breeding plans in the stud farms of Ukraine, measures were taken to improve the horses of the Ukrainian breed group through targeted selection and selection, the organization of sports training, the assessment of stallion stallions by the quality of offspring, the identification of ancestors and the establishment of lines, the creation and improvement of uterine families. The work was carried out in the direction of forming an independent breed of riding horses with high sports performance on the basis of a breed group. The sires of the original breeds were replaced by half-bred stallions having the desired origin, body type, and other characteristics. In 1970, half-bred stallions-sires accounted for 38% of the production staff of stud farms, in 1986 - 80%, in 1990 - 92%. In 1974, 1 volume was published, and in 1984 - 2 volume of the State Studbook.
V long-term plans a certain standard was provided for a large, massive riding horse of harmonious build, with good sports qualities... Through the use of horses with the presence of the Orlovo-Rostopchinsky breed in the bloodlines, many Ukrainian horses received an original drawing of the exterior, a kind of harmony of forms and "oriental engraving". And the influx of the blood of the Hungarian breeds brought a valuable quality to the breed being created - good working capacity in harness at agricultural work. The origin of the modern manufacturing composition is based on the repetition and consolidation of the desired genotypes with a predominance of 4-, 5 -,: - typical. These are the Anglo-Russian-Trakehnee-Hungarian, Anglo-Russian-Trakenee-Hanover-Hungarian, Anglo-Russian-Arab-Trakehnee-Hanover-Hungarian complexes and others, fixed by repeating them in both parts of the pedigree and when conducting selection and selection, priority was given expressiveness of the desired type. Of great interest are genealogical combinations that carry the blood of the Orlovo-Rostopchinsky breed. The genealogical structure of the breed was established and formed in parallel with crossing and breeding "in itself" hybrids of the desired type. Thus, a solid genetic basis was laid in the breed for further improvement aimed at the development and consolidation of the desirable economically useful characteristics of the breed, mainly by the method of purebred breeding. Horses of the Ukrainian riding breed differ from purebred ones - in a more massive body, developed bones, calm temperament, from Trakenese horses - in a more pronounced riding constitution, high bloodiness and elegance, from Hungarian ones - in agility and mobility.

Three types are distinguished in the breed:

  • Basic... The animals have a fairly large growth (162 cm), a well-developed body and skeleton, a riding store, a dry and coarse constitution, free movement at different gaits.
  • Thick... The animals are massive, have the exterior features of a draft horse, some signs of a damp constitution, and height (161 cm).
  • Lightweight... Animals approach the basic type, but have a less developed body and skeleton. Height 160 cm.
