How easy is it to draw a horse for a child?

For kids, a schematic image of a horse is usually enough, which looks more like a character from a fairy tale or cartoon, and not a real graceful animal. The following visual diagrams will tell you how to easily and quickly draw a horse in pencil in stages for the youngest children:

  2. Draw the rest of the body using thin lines.
  3. Use simple geometric shapes to add dimension to the image.
  4. Draw the details of the horse's hind legs.
  5. Draw the front legs, neck and head.
  6. Finish the 3D sketch image.
  7. Trace the outline of the horse's body with a smooth pencil line.
  8. Draw the legs and hooves in the same way, removing unnecessary lines in parallel.

There are many things you need to know before you can draw a realistic horse. You need to know about the anatomy of the horse, how it moves. Here are a few steps to create a horse. Hopefully, I can help you draw the best horses in the world.

ANATOMY

I firmly believe that you cannot learn to draw well without knowing anatomy.
First, I created a sketch of a horse skeleton. I kept in mind the structure of the horses, the joints of the bones, which allowed me to better understand how the horse is built. This drawing may help you.

Let's go ahead and look at the muscles of the horse. Understanding how the muscles are placed will help the horse become more realistic. Good muscle placement will give your drawing a sense of movement as opposed to a simple pose drawing.

Horses have very large muscle groups. I only included some muscle groups in the main sketch. I suggest you sketch one or two muscles to understand the placement of the muscle and make it easier to work with it.

One of the most big problems this is the definition of the musculature of the forelegs. This sketch should help.

BREEDS

Over the centuries, humans have developed hundreds of specialized horse breeds. We have horses for dragging carts, plows, horses for knights and heroes. There are also racing horses. We have tiny pony breeds.

Each different breed of horse has been created specifically to perform certain types of work.
Each breed is different from the other. Even the bones of some horses are larger and heavier than the bones of lighter breeds. Some horses have thicker necks, shorter hindquarters, etc. The manes of some are thick and often appear almost curly. Horse tails are often trimmed.

This horse breed is very hardy. Their hind legs are usually very muscular and powerful. Of all the breeds of such horses, this horse is one of the fastest runners.

Arabian Is possibly one of the oldest and most beautiful horse breeds. Arabians bred in the desert are very hardy. Although they are not the fastest breed, the Arabians are favorite horse racing, competing in the race for their endurance. The Arabians are called "wind drinkers" because of their nostrils. They also have large, well-built ears and large eyes.

TRAFFIC

Most horses have four simple gaits: stride, trot, canter and canter. See the horses in motion

Horses also have a wide variety of other movements. They move to the side, diagonally, they kick, they are playful.

DRAW A HORSE

I would like to point out that my lessons are aimed at someone who already has some drawing skills. I assume that you already know a little about the basics of sketching and the like, so I won't go into too much detail. Hopefully, you are really a little familiar with horse anatomy and know which horse you want to draw.

We'll start with the head. This is the most significant part of the horse.

Pay attention to the eye socket. Note that the teeth are angled rather than parallel as in humans. Please note that the horse's jawbone runs under the ear and goes to the teeth and chin. There are many bones in the horse's head and it seems heavy in the region of the skull. Nostrils, lips, and chin are the most soft areas on the horse's face. They are very mobile and expressive.
Horses are rather round creatures. Therefore, when sketching, start with circles or ovals. This is how I always start.

HEAD (side view)

Step 1

Looking at the horse's head from the side, you will notice that the cheek and muzzle are both fairly round parts of the horse. I start with them. First, I sketch out a circle that will become the cheek. Then I decide what angle I would like to see the horse's head. After that I will sketch out the muzzle. The size of the muzzle should be about half less than the cheek. This circle depends on the breed of horse you are drawing. Connect the mouth and cheek to what will become the jawline and forehead. Draw a line for the neck and outline the ears.

I like to draw eyes with small ovals. The eyes are usually located at a point about 1/3 the length of the horse's head from ears to nose.

This is the main outline of the horse.

Step 2

Now I start to draw the horse's face. I start with rough sketches, which will be easy to change when drawing the line further.

I offer you the option of creating the nostrils, cheekbones and mouth line. I think it is a mistake not to mark with early stages eyes, mouth, size and placement of nostrils, ears, etc.

Step 3

If you are happy with the drawing, now is the time to "animate" the horse. It's time to draw the details. It is at this stage that I add the muscles, hair and lines that convey character. But remember about anatomy. Don't forget to draw the area around the eye, the bridge of the nose and the jaw.

Step 4

Time to breathe life into the drawing ...

Since the horse's head is completely its skull, and the muscle wraps around it, it has the same shape. We know where her muscles are, so we can figure out the shading. We know how the skull is formed and can give the forehead a realistic hardness. Hopefully, you can now see why I insist on studying anatomy!

HEAD (front view)

It is difficult to draw a face-to-face head. However, I hope that I can help draw her.

Step 1

I usually start drawing the front view with a rounded rectangle. This is the shape that I envision for the horse's jaw. I then add a smaller rounded rectangle to indicate the muzzle. Then I mark the location of the horse's eyes: 1/3 of the distance to the bottom of the "jaw". Marking the line of the eyes, I draw a circle that will become the horse's forehead and indicate the shape of the ears.

Step 2

I start drawing the lines. I draw the horse's eyes. I use ovals to create the nostrils and I create shadows on the head and ears. I also draw lines from the corner of each eye to a point between the nostrils and from the ear to almost the center of the horse's forehead. The resulting diamond-like shape will define the area of the horse's muzzle.

Step 3

When I am satisfied with creating the paths, I start adding details. Everything starts to take shape. This horse worked hard: I flared its nostrils. She is also quite anxious: her ears are directed forward. She looks lively and interested. She's ready for the finishing touches.

Step 4

I gave this horse a highlight on the face (white area). I think it gives the horse its character. Notice that it is in the "diamond" area (I showed it before). It is a hard area of bone covered with leather. Also notice that the horse's eyes are on the sides of the head, not on the front plane, and there is a fairly large distance between the ears.

DRAWING THE BODY

As I said, there are many circular areas in the structure of a horse. We can mark them with circles and ovals. This applies to the torso as well.

Step 1

I prefer to start with the areas that are closer to me. Since this horse is in front of us, I started with the rib cage, marking each half of it with ovals.

I also determined the place where the neck will go to chest, and moved from there to the head. When I drew most of the body, I moved on to drawing the legs. I wanted to spread her legs a little to soften the position. I marked the knees, and the ankles marked the leg with ovals.

Analyze the entire drawing. If you don’t like it now, you won’t like it in the future. Try changing details (leg position, etc.)

Step 2

I move quickly from step to step, as I have been drawing horses for many years. You can take your time. The less you work on the sketch, the worse the character of the horse is defined.
At this stage, I draw a shape that already existed for me. I start to draw the muscles and facial expressions. I also add some hair and hair, and start playing with the background (but not today). This is still a sketch. Nothing is permanent. Feel free to work with him. Get used to it. Do you like the way she looks? No? Change it.

Step 3

We got to the cleaning stage. I denote the light source and play a little with the shadow. I also clear all lines. I am more and more detailing the drawing. Now the muscles are felt more. If you don't like something, go back ...

If the question arises of how to draw a horse with a pencil in stages in order to avoid such mistakes, it is better to use one of the schemes below.

Learning to draw a horse is enough difficult task, since an accurate display of the proportions of this most beautiful and graceful animal is required in the drawing. But, if you draw a horse in stages, then it is quite possible to draw it correctly even for children. In this lesson, we will learn how to draw a standing horse, step by step, sketching its outlines. It is difficult even for an artist to draw a picture of a running horse, so first make a drawing of a horse standing still, and after this lesson you can try to draw other drawings of horses, including a running horse. The most difficult elements of the horse drawing are the hind legs and the horse's head, pay attention to these details Special attention... The site has a lesson on how to draw a horse's head in stages with a simple pencil. Watch it too, it will help you right draw a horse.

1. How to draw a horse, the first step of the drawing

All drawing lessons on my site are based on the use of geometric shapes, as the initial contours of the drawing of any animal. Horse drawing done in the same way. With the help of three circles draw the main parts of the torso and connect them with lines as in my drawing. Drawing these outlines is not difficult, but it is important to accurately position them on the sheet of paper in relation to each other. Try to make this step of drawing a horse as accurate as possible.

2. Add the contours of the legs in the picture.

In this step, you need to draw the outlines of the legs, neck and head. Start at the line of the horse's neck. To do this, you just need to add another upper neck line to the already drawn one. Mark in a small circle where the horse's head will end. After that, you can start drawing the outlines of the legs. Start by drawing the front legs first. To do this, draw two pairs of small circles and connect them with straight lines. Draw triangles for the hooves. The hind legs are more difficult, maybe because they bend not forward, but backward. And note that the lines of the legs do not start from the center of the circle, but are slightly shifted to the left.

3. General outline of the horse

Check carefully whether all the horse's proportions are respected. Is the head too big and the legs too short? Are the hind legs bent back? Check the distance between the hooves, the front legs are almost closed, and the hind legs are standing as if the horse is preparing to run. If you are sure that you have drawn everything accurately, then move on to the next step.

4. The drawing of the horse is almost complete

At this step, we will not draw anything, just delete the now unnecessary contours from the drawing. Correct the lines you accidentally deleted and see how simple it turns out draw a horse... Already in the third step of drawing, you have got a real a beautiful horse, it remains only to draw the tail and draw the head in detail.

5. It remains to draw a few more details.

The first steps of the drawing are very simple, but they require attention so that the original contours are precisely located in relation to each other. The proportions of the horse depend on their location. The next steps require attention to small details. You need to carefully draw the eyes, nostrils, ears of the horse. To draw small details, the pencil must be sharp. Don't forget to draw the tail.

Horse head drawing video.

6. Drawing final touches

Now you know how to draw a horse, but you still need to learn how to apply shadows. it sophisticated technique, but use a simple rule of object lighting. The light falls from the right, which means that the areas on the left will be darker. Try to create shadows on the horse by copying them from my drawing. You can try drawing a horse with colored pencils and even paints.
In this tutorial, we used the techniques of drawing a horse that is standing still. If you want to draw a running horse, or even several running horses, you can use photographs of horses for this, using this lesson as a base material for other horse drawings.

7 running horse Oil painting

I painted this picture of a running horse with a rider in oil. Please do not criticize too much, I was only 11 years old.

To draw a horse, even in stages, requires experience and a good eye. But if you need to make drawings of horses, this lesson will help you figure out how to draw a horse's head. The main thing is to observe exactly the proportions so that the horse's head is graceful and beautiful. For beginners to draw, I advise you to periodically compare your drawing with a real photo or a good drawing of a horse.

A drawing of a giraffe will not be for you difficult lesson if you've tried to draw a horse before. Almost the same structure of the body, only slightly longer than the legs of a giraffe than of a horse, and of course very Long neck... But if you draw in stages, first with a simple pencil, and then paint with colored pencils, the picture of the giraffe will be like a real one.

If you draw wolves chasing a horse in the distance, you get a good plot for a picture, a running horse. In fact, wolves will not be able to catch up with a healthy and strong horse, and even if they do, they will regret it. The horse has a very dangerous weapon for them - hooves.

A deer looks very much like a horse, so if you know how to draw a horse, then drawing a deer will be easier. The same structure of the body and legs, only the head is decorated with horns and the tail is very small, it is not even visible in the drawing.

If you did not manage to draw a horse beautifully, try drawing a camel in stages. This lesson is designed so that any child can draw a camel correctly.
