First, I sketch out a circle that will become the cheek. Then I decide what angle I would like to see the horse's head. After that I will sketch out the muzzle. The size of the muzzle should be about half less than the cheek. This circle depends on the breed of horse you are drawing. Connect the mouth and cheek to what will become the jawline and forehead. Draw a line for the neck and outline the ears.
I like to draw eyes with small ovals. The eyes are usually located at a point about 1/3 the length of the horse's head from ears to nose.
