We catch with a jig on a side nod for summer fishing. DIY fishing float

Steel wire with a diameter of 0.8 millimeters and a length of about 25 centimeters. A spherical blank with a diameter of 23 millimeters cut out of foam. Cambric, weights, fishing line.

First, watch the introductory video from the Vladimir Severinov channel.

How to nod for summer fishing

First you need to make a weight for the nod weighing about 3 grams. You can take a sliding weight as a basis. We need two cambric, which will be put on the 0.8 mm wire. You can replace the cambric with soft insulation from the wire. One cambric needs a length of about one centimeter, and the second should exceed the length of the float by one centimeter.

After the weight is attached, you can cut the 20 cm long nod to the desired length.

Let's consider again what is already ready at this stage of manufacturing the float. This is a wire with a weight fixed on it, a fishing line that will pass through 2 cambric, on a long cambric there will be a float.

Next, we pass the line through a long cambric, a float and a second cambric. Now you need to adjust the workpiece. It is recommended to set the load initially with a larger weight so that you can bite off the excess. The float should be about half submerged in the water. By moving the float up and down along the wire, we will achieve that the nod is about 45-50 degrees in relation to the water.
How do I adjust the nod incline level? Suppose that, as in the example shown, two weights and a hook are in the water column. If we want to catch, for example, crucian carp, we need a feed and put the hook on the bottom. Just blend the float down and keep the optimal slope towards the water.

There is only one cambric under the foam and interferes with the displacement of the float when hooking the fish. If your cambric is not very tightly dressed, you can make a loop of wire or needles with an eyelet. You need to bite off a piece of wire, rewind with threads, secure with glue. The line will exit at the bottom from under the cambric through the eyelet.

Differences between this float model and the original

A fishing magazine that outlined the idea for a float suggested making it out of a bamboo stick. However, the author of the design presented in our article refused this, since the bamboo rod has a large thickness and increased windage in the wind. Presumably, such a float will unfold during the wind. In addition, the stick has its own buoyancy and, when biting for drowning, it will be more difficult for it to nod down than for a wire. The wire version will be more dynamic, since its lower part in the water is thinner and it will be easier to cut the water.

In the original, it was proposed to make the line exit from the end, and the entry from the lower end. Here the entry is made differently, because when the line is pulled, if it comes out from the lower end, the lever will turn on. When the line is pulled from the rod, the float will react like a false bite.
When hooking, especially when biting uphill, you need to sharply hook the fish. In the original version, the opposite will happen. Who is when we hook up, we let the line go, and only then the hook begins. This option produces a soft undercut. First, the nod is raised, the weight is turned on, and only then, when the nod is straightened, a sweep is obtained. There is no obvious weakening of the line.

It is advisable to make the load so that it sinks the float to the middle. In this case, it will spin on the water. If the float is less submerged, the nod will be unstable. If the float is immersed more, then the movements of the nod will not be rotational, but translational.

If you want to make the float more visible, on its upper part you can wear a bright colored cambric.
The float of this design is not so easy to operate. There are many more laws of physics involved in the operation than in the operation of a conventional float. Therefore, you need to take into account some of its features. When the float falls on the water, it can, as it were, stick to the water, take a horizontal position. There are several ways to fix this. You can try to increase the power of the float by increasing the diameter of the foam and put a larger weight. The second way is to change the inclination of the float to the water, to make it stand not at an angle of 45-50 degrees, but to increase it to 70-75 degrees. In addition to these methods, you can reduce the length of the nod. The problem will be greater if you use a piece of wood instead of wire.

Below is a picture with slightly adjusted parameters: the diameter of the float (25 mm), weights: on the nod (4 g) and on the rig (in the amount of 1-1.5 g). The length of the nod can be reduced slightly to 19 cm. These small changes can eliminate the possibility of the nod sticking to the water.

If the fishing line sticks, then in the middle of the nod, you can put more additional cambric.
The proposed one is heavier than the usual ones, which is probably why it has not found widespread use. However, it is very interesting for its sensitive bites. It is ineffective in windy conditions, so it is not used in such weather.

In conclusion, a spectacular fishing video for this float.

A fishing float is a small part that determines the efficiency of the fishing process. This is a kind of indicator that makes it possible to see the bite in time and hook the fish. The requirements for choosing this device for a fishing rod are simple: the float must be stable, not fall on the water under the influence of wind and waves, be clearly visible on the water and be strong.

From simple to complex

The first floats were created from improvised materials - foam, feathers, and today you can even buy an electronic float for fishing. By the way, these varieties are created specifically for night fishing, when the float is not visible on the water. At the same time, there is no universal float: each type of fishing has its own characteristics, and the rod equipment must be matched accordingly. The sensitivity of the floats depends on how many places it is fixed on the line. There are several types of floats, which we will now consider.

Luminous float

Luminous float for night fishing- the ideal solution for those who prefer active rest, even at night. The most popular brand offering floats of this type is the Japanese company Fuji-Toki. All models are equipped with Japanese LEDs, which are characterized by high power and duration of burning, averaging 15-24 hours. All Fuji-Toki floats can be divided into several series:

  1. FF-1, FF-2, FF-3, FF-4, FF-5. These are small floats of various shapes, in which the glow point is located in the antenna. It is tapered so that even the most careful bite can be easily tracked. This float for night fishing can be used during the day.
  2. FF-11 and FF-12. These are unusual needle-shaped floats with high sensitivity. Well thought-out shape ensures quick response since the drag is minimal. The LED has a high power, therefore, a large area of the reservoir is illuminated.
  3. FF-B3, FF-B4, FF-B6, FF-B8. These floats have a sensitive antenna and a ball-shaped body, showing maximum resistance to external influences.
  4. FF-C10, FF-C15, FF-C20, FF-C30. These models are complemented by a high power LED, so a large water surface is illuminated. The float is elongated with a tapered antenna for the least resistance.
  5. FF-E03, FF-E05, FF-E10, FF-E15. These floats have a long keel, which improves resistance to external factors.

To do luminous float for night fishing, you can cover it with a layer of luminescent paint, which will give off some of the light in the dark. All modern floats are complemented by reliable batteries that last all night. By changing the batteries, you can go fishing again.

Float or nod?

All floats that are suitable for fishing in summer are designed for several features of operation:

  • fishing for small fish;
  • for fishing in calm water or current;
  • for long cast;
  • for fishing with live bait.

Before describing the features of a particular type, you need to consider the design features of the floats:

  1. The antenna is the signal part of the float that is visible to the fisherman while fishing.
  2. The load of the tackle is balanced by the floating part of the hull, which is often supplemented with a ring where the line is passed.
  3. The keel of the float serves as a guarantee of stability on the water.

Many fishermen use a bobber nod to summer fishing, considering that great catchability depends on this.

Small fish hunting

The smallest float is designed for fishing such fish as bleak, roach, perch at a shallow depth, close to the coast. Such products are often called live bait, since only they can catch live bait. Lightweight tackle can be used when fishing from a boat. The design will be light, since such a float for summer fishing is very small, and the hook with a sinker gently lowers to the bottom. If the load is normal, then only the antenna will remain above the water. A fishing rod for such a float should be no more than 4 m in length.

For calm waters

Calm water floats are useful if you are fishing in a pond or lake. You can also use them at shallow depths - up to one and a half meters. A float for fishing in calm water should only resist the wind and ripples it lifts, so when choosing equipment, you need to take into account the minimum windage of the float and the minimum resistance to fish biting. Perfect shape The float is considered to be long when it is loaded with a maximum of 3 g. With the help of such a rig, you can catch roach, perch, bream, crucian carp. The float easily moves through the water and just as easily stretches if there is a bite. Most often fishing in calm water is carried out with bleak, therefore the tackle is brought to perfection.

On the course

A float for fishing in a strong current will constantly experience the effects of water and whirlpools, and this will also occur under water. In order for the float to withstand such a load and maintain its function as a bite alarm, it must be barrel-shaped, which will hold firmly on the water, despite the wind and current. The larger the diameter, the quieter the float will be on the water, while the thickness of the antenna does not matter, and the keel should be long. This will make the float more stable and controllable.

The range of carrying capacity of floats in a strong current is wide - up to 30 g. As for the rig, it can be either deaf or running: the former is more convenient for the fisherman, who can catch the fish in time. The float is fastened for reliability in two places: first, the line is passed through the ring at the bottom of the float, then it is clamped with a rubber ring below the antenna. Such a float is clearly visible on the water and easy to control, but for fishing it is better to take a rod with a reel.

For long distance casting

If you plan to fish in deep waters, where you need to throw your tackle far away, a special fishing float will come in handy. They are very heavy, so you can deliver the bait more than 20 m from the shore, that is, where the fish are supposed to nest. Most often, such floats are sliding, they are fixed on the fishing line with a special stopper unit, and the weight is carried out with a thickened metal keel. The carrying capacity of such floats is sufficient, and it is better to equip the fishing rod spinning reel. Different kinds fishing floats have their own characteristics. Live fish are popular with fishermen, which are clearly visible on the water and under water. The float is attached to the line with rubber rings or stopper knots.

Electronic float

Another type of floats are electronic. Fishermen note that for all the thoughtfulness of the design, they have certain drawbacks. The first and most important thing is that the float signals a bite under any external influence - ripples, float immersion at least 5 mm under water. That is, it turns out that the float, instead of showing the bite to the fisherman, will confuse him. The current during the operation of such a float is spent little, if it is dry, then energy will not be consumed. The batteries in this sophisticated and modern device are enough for 30 hours of constant lightning of the diodes.

With your own hands

A do-it-yourself fishing float is very easy to make, and for this you do not need any special tools - most often everything is at hand. The most popular materials for creating a float are:

  • feathers (goose, pigeon);
  • plastic tube, for example from hot air balloon;
  • tree;
  • Styrofoam;
  • Cork.

To catch medium-sized fish, rudd or crucian carp, make floats from feathers or tubes, and for a more serious catch, serious floats are needed, made of cork or foam. They will be less sensitive to external influences and will withstand even sharp bites of a predator.

From the pen

The fishermen believe that the easiest way to make a float is to make it from a feather. It will turn out to be sensitive, so it is suitable for catching medium-sized fish. The shape of the float will be keel-shaped, so even a light touch of the fish will be felt. The nib is cleaned carefully so that its integrity is not compromised. Fastening to the fishing line is done with tape or a piece of nipple. In order for the feather to be visible on the water, it must be painted in a bright color. The most popular combination is black, red and orange.

Out of the tube

A float made of such a material is distinguished by a proportional and even shape, and its aesthetics are higher compared to a goose feather. Such a float is durable and sensitive, and there will be no problems with its creation. To do this, you need to take a plastic tube and measure the desired length on it. The edges of the tube are sealed to protect it from water getting inside: for this, the tube heats up, as soon as a bubble forms on the surface, it must be twisted. Now it remains to wait until the edges are dry. A hole is made on the part that will be attached to the fishing line: for this, the tube must be heated again. A fishing line is pushed into the resulting hole, excess plastic tube cut off.

Styrofoam

If you are going fishing for a big and serious catch, and you need a homemade float, make it out of cork or foam. The creation process is simple. Despite the fact that the sensitivity of these floats is somewhat lower, only on them can you catch large fish, since they have a large carrying capacity. To make a product, you need to take polystyrene and cut the base out of it. A certain shape is given by a grinder, grinder or drill. You need to push a rod through the workpiece - in this capacity, you can use a stick from a chupa-chups, and a rod from a handle, and a metal wire. The rod will hold onto the line, and the float will hold securely to the surface.

How to make an electronic float?

You can also make an electronic fishing float with your own hands if you do not want to spend money on buying a ready-made model. The easiest way to do it is with a glow stick that attaches to the antenna. An even simpler method is to cover the float with a special luminescent compound that can be used for a long time. True, such a float will not glow all the time, and if there is no backlight, it will start to fade altogether. Another way to improve the visibility of your float at night is to cover it with reflective film or paint it: it will glow under the light of, for example, a flashlight.

Thus, fishermen always have the opportunity to choose a float that will suit their requirements. As for color, experts advise choosing bright colors that will be visible on the water. Take into account the peculiarities of the reservoir - the speed of the current, the presence and absence of algae, reeds, and much more. This will make your catch bigger.

Fishing on the side nod is characterized by a high degree of its dynamism, in which the angler constantly has to work with the rod, keeping it in hand. These arguments require special criteria when choosing a fishing rod for the type of hunting presented. The fundamental of them is considered the mass of the rod, which should be as small as possible.

Important! Telescopic graphite rods in lengths from 4 to 10 meters are suitable for low weight conditions.

Depending on the expected factors of use, the blank can be equipped with guides or picked up in a flywheel version. It is more convenient and effective to make the wiring with a jig with a rod with a semi-fast quivertip action. One of the options for the basis of the nodding direction of fishing can be a plug-type rod rigging.

Having made a summer side nod and equipping it with a rod, they look for places suitable for hunting, trying to approach perspective points from the leeward side for a better view of the signaling device operation. Based on the forces of the current, they choose the load of the bait and begin work on catching fish, the tactics of which and the attachments used will be discussed in separate parts of the article.

Fishing tactics

The mounted jig is fed into the fishing zone, lowering it to the bottom and making a second pause. After a pause, the bait is wiggled along the bottom, which causes a cloudy spot to rise, which additionally attracts fish.

In the absence of bites, the nozzle is gradually raised to the surface of the water, making stops at every 30–50 cm of the level and playing a game of varying intensity. Each point is fished in two cycles and, in the absence of bites, they move to a new place.

The bite itself is expressed by a clearly noticeable bend of the signaling device, after which you need to hook the trophy and lift it with a rod.

Nozzles

Heavy jigs of various types and shapes act as attachments. As a rule, options for 3-5 gram attachments are selected for the working conditions with such equipment. In terms of color, for open water fishing, dark shades of natural colors, gray, black, brown, copper, behave more effectively. Bright and shiny winter jigs in summer, fish are alarmed and there are much less bites on them.

Important! At low activity of fish, replanting bloodworms noticeably activates biting.

The hooks of the fishing tool must have an elongated forend and a much larger number in their classification than winter options... Fishing of points in between overgrown windows can be carried out with the use of loaded and heavy artificial fly flies. They select options with a fluffy, but short plumage, performing a leisurely game with heavy pulls, carrying out vertical postings.

In the minds of most fishermen, jig fishing is an exclusively winter activity, because the essence of such fishing lies in the correct posting of the bait. It is almost impossible to carry out such a procedure with a long summer rod.

But in fact, there is nothing complicated about it. It is enough to have a long and light rod that you can hold in your hands for a long time, a set of jigs, as well as a high-quality nod, which will not only signal a bite, but also play along with the bait.

Regular summer fishing rods equipped with a float do not allow fishing in areas with dense aquatic plants, especially if it comes about casting over a long distance. Even if the rig goes down to the bottom, the float will get stuck or snagged.

A side nod rod is a different matter altogether. A long rod allows you to "bring" the rig to the right place, the jig falls to the bottom without any problems, and a nod helps it to play at the slightest shake of the blank.

When choosing a rod, start with the material of its manufacture, because here one of the main factors is the weight of the blank. The smaller it is, the more comfortable fishing will be. It is best to use carbon fiber for these purposes. The weight of the longest rod made of this material does not exceed 350 g.

Now about the design. Side nod fishing in the summer involves the use of a telescopic blank. Neither plug nor solid rods are used here. As for the length of the blank, it should be at least 5 meters.

Pay attention to the tuning. Fast action rods with a long, stiff whip are more suitable.

A tighter nod can be made from an old or broken telescopic summer fishing rod. To do this, detach one of the thinnest elbows and cut a strip of the indicated dimensions from it. Adjust its width to fit a certain weight of the jig. Attach a paperclip loop to the end of the gate as described above. Color the end in one of the bright colors (red, yellow, orange).

If there is a universal tackle for fishing in the summer, then this is a summer jig. Lateral nod allows you to fish from the shore, and overhead, and from the boat.

Fording fishing is considered the most difficult, as it requires endurance and patience from the angler. Besides the fact that you need to stand in the water, constantly hold a long rod in your hands, you also need to try to carry out the correct posting.

Fishing from the shore is a little easier, though you can lay out your tackle and bait here.

The easiest way to fish is from a boat: it is easier to choose a suitable place, and there is no need for a long rod. For such fishing, you need a short form (1.5-2 m) of fast action with a rigid tip. All other tackle requirements are the same as for a long side nod rod.

For summer fishing on a jig, there are several types of postings:

  • simple vertical;
  • vertical taut;
  • playing with your fingers;
  • jerky;
  • bottom horizontal;
  • drawing wiring;
  • passive.

With normal vertical guidance, the rig is brought into place with the rod. Then it is slowly lowered to the bottom. The jig is lifted with light vertical movements directed upwards, with a pause of 1-2 seconds every 10-15 cm. After that, the rig is returned to the bottom and the process is repeated.

Tight vertical wiring is mostly done with little current. It is this that helps the jig to produce vibrations that attract fish. To do this, the rig is sent to the bottom, after which it is slowly raised to a distance of 7-10 cm, and so it is held for 5-10 s, after which the procedure is repeated.

When playing with his fingers, a similar process occurs, however, during the ascent, the angler additionally "excites" the bait with small strokes of his fingers on the line extending from the reel or reel, pulling and releasing it.

Jerk wiring consists in the fact that the jig is lowered to the bottom in two stages: first to half, after a few seconds completely. After that, a sharp rise is made 30-40 cm upward, followed by a repetition of the cycle.

Bottom horizontal guidance implies vibrations of the jig along the bottom surface at a distance of 10-15 cm from it, carried out by small-amplitude twitching of the rod in the horizontal plane.

Dragging the bait along the bottom is possible only on an open aquatic plants the territory of the reservoir. The jig is lowered to the bottom, after which the rod is slowly taken to the side, dragging the bait along the bottom surface.

Passive guidance is intended for lazy anglers who do not want to contribute to the game of the jig. Here you can apply two options: lower the bait to the bottom so that it just lies there, or half-water - so that its slight current wobbles.

When and where is the best time to fish with nod tackle

A nod for a summer fishing rod is mounted on one of the above types of tackle. Bologna types of fishing rods are equipped with inertial reels with low weight and without any type of additional functions.

It is enough to have only a stopper in the mechanism, otherwise the reel serves only to store a supply of fishing line. The flywheel tackle is equipped with a foam miniature reel, which is attached to the last knee of the blank with an elastic band.

As in the boloni, the reel acts as a storage facility. The rest of the equipment does not depend on the type of tackle and consists of a mono line with diameters from 0.15 to 0.2 mm, the nod accessory itself, complete with its attachment to the rod's quivertype and bait.

In assemblies, a combined artificial bait is used in the form of all kinds of jigs with different weights.

Important! The lure fits directly to the line, without swivels and fasteners.

It is especially worth focusing on the use of equipment associated with the difference in rods.

Important! It is more convenient to fish with reels on fishing rods from a boat, on fly gear it is more comfortable to work from the banks and into the wading.

Nod fishing in summer is carried out on intensively overgrown reservoirs in free windows and gaps at depths of up to three meters. They carry out fishing from the shore, wading and from boats.

The course of the reservoir does not have much significance for hunting. Loads from water jets are compensated by the amount of baits supplied to the extraction zone.

Fishing in the fall with a rod with a nod, as in the spring, when the reservoirs are still loosely overgrown with underwater algae, are carried out in the coastal zones near the walls of reeds or cattails.

There are successful attempts to hunt on steep shores with the presence of underwater holes, from where the game of jigs lures the fish hidden there. Fishing with a nod in summer begins from the first morning dawn and can be successfully carried out throughout the day until deep sunset, especially if you catch shaded shores.

In early spring and in autumn the fish begins to actively take on jigs closer to noon, which is especially felt on sunny days with more intense heating of the waters and the brightness of the natural light flux.

Small fish hunting

It is not difficult to make a side nod for summer fishing with your own hands. The basis of success is the selection of the material required for the product. The best samples of the signaling device are obtained from lavsan.

Important! Lavsan is a fairly common material in everyday life that is easy to obtain. This is a plastic bottle and an old x-ray or x-ray.

The surface of the bottle is cut to unfold and straighten the material. The workpiece is marked out, focusing on the shape of a long truncated cone of 25-30 cm with cut ends in sizes of 1 cm at the top and 3 cm at its base.

Having cut out the shape with scissors, a ring is made from a paper clip, which is mounted in the top of the accessory, piercing and subsequently, impregnating the material with glue in the places of its contact. For conspicuousness, the tip of the signaling device can be varnished in an eye-catching color.

An option for making a nodding tool can be the canvas of an old construction tape and spring, flat rolled steel. The main requirements for the material are elasticity and low weight.

They fish with a similar tackle on rivers with weak currents, as well as in standing water... As for the location, you can fish for the summer side nod anywhere, both from the shore and from the boat. In the latter case, of course, a long rod is not required.

How to secure a side nod

To mount the signal accessory, you need special device for fastening, which is mounted on the last knee of the blank used in the hunting process. The fastening device that allows you to fish with a nod in the summer is made from a piece of dense rubber.

Three holes are made in the rubber blank to allow further installation of the equipment. One of the holes serves for threading the device onto the quivertip of the rod, on which the fastener must sit tightly enough without backlash and lateral displacements.

A slot is made perpendicular to the first hole, into which the signaling device itself will be inserted directly. Typically, a slot is cut on top of the hole for mounting on a quivertip.

Important! The mounting socket for the signaling device should allow adjusting the reach of the accessory by lateral pull-ups, but without backlash and with a solid tightness.

The third hole is made parallel to the first in the lower part of the fastener blank, but of a much smaller diameter. A rigid polyethylene cambric is inserted into this hole; an option is acceptable from the insulation of the electric wire, which goes right through the entire fastener. This hole serves to pass the line stretched from the reel or reel along the quivertip to the nod for the summer fishing rod itself.

Spinning nod

Spinning tackle is equipped with this type of signaling device for conducting fine and delicate bottom fishing, when medium-sized and cautious fish is expected in the catches, which requires cutting even at the slightest touch of the bait.

It is possible to notice this using only the above-described equipment. The attachment type of the accessory is similar to that of a flywheel and Bolognese rod.

The spinning type of signaling device in fishing supplies stores, most likely, is not possible to pick up and it is best to make a nod yourself, on your own. A do-it-yourself spinning nod is made more massive and longer than for fishing rods, using a tougher material.

DIY "nod"

A do-it-yourself fishing float is very easy to make, and for this you do not need any special tools - most often everything is at hand. The most popular materials for creating a float are:

  • feathers (goose, pigeon);
  • a plastic tube, such as a balloon
  • tree;
  • Styrofoam;
  • Cork.

A bobber such as the "Nod" has long been known in fishing circles for its efficiency in use. You can do it yourself without much cost and effort and attach it yourself to a float rod.

  1. First of all, you need to take a piece of wire 25 cm long. The diameter of the wire is 0.8 cm.
  2. Cut out a ball-shaped float sample from the foam, which will float in the water in the future. The sample diameter should be about 20-25 mm.
  3. Now Nod needs a load. Take a sliding weight as a basis. Bite off a piece weighing about 3 grams. using pliers or other tool.
  4. Make a hole in the weight for the wire.
  5. Bend one end of the wire to secure the weight.
  6. Insert the wire into the weight through the hole.
  7. Clamp the weight at the end of the wire with pliers so that it does not slip while using the tackle.
  8. You can use cambric or insulation that fits in size. Separate one insulation approximately 1 cm long, the other insulation should be 1 cm longer than the product itself (ball model).
  9. After securing the load, you can cut the wire, depending on the intended length. It is better to make a tackle of about 20 cm - this is the optimal size.
  10. Remove the sharp ends of the wire after cutting. This is necessary in order not to damage the insulation.
  11. Thread the line through the long insulation.
  12. Thread the line through the Nod and through the short insulation.
  13. Also pass a wire through the insulation, then put the workpiece on it.
  14. Put a small insulation over the other end of the wire.
  15. After that, the finished product needs to be adjusted.
  16. Attach it to a rig (load, hook) and lower it into the water. Adjust the line and foam placement on the insulation on the product so that it is submerged to the middle of the ball and at a 45 degree angle to the surface of the water.
  17. If there is any doubt that the tackle or the insulation will move during the fishing process, you can make a loop at the end of the long insulation. Material - wire, needle or eye pin. You need to place the needle parallel to the wire and wind it with threads and soak it with glue. After, you need to thread the fishing line through the eye of the needle.
  18. In the finished product of the "Nod" type, the line with the load and the hook comes with less insulation.
  19. Care must be taken to ensure that the weight on the tackle and on the line is balanced so that the weight on the tool outweighs, because the "Nod" design is a scale.

The main advantages of this "Nod" are great catch prospects, ease of creation and responsiveness to the bite. This float is not effective in windy conditions.

In the process of fishing, you need to constantly monitor so that it does not take a parallel position to the water. This is possible as a result of unbalanced loads or unsuitable material from which the "Nod" is made.

In this case, you need to increase the load and increase the size of the foam. You can also increase the degree of inclination of the object to the water up to 75.

In the process of operation of this product, different laws of physics are involved, so the operation is more difficult than that of the classics.

Nod requirements

But the requirements for a nod are the most stringent, because the whole success of fishing depends on it. It must have sufficient elasticity to signal even the most careful bites, as well as a certain elasticity, clearly corresponding to the weight of the jig.

As for its size, it should be proportional to the rod: the larger it is, the longer the nod should be. For example, for a 6-meter blank, a 20 cm gatehouse would be ideal.

And one more mandatory requirement - it must be clearly visible due to its bright coloration, contrasting with the color. environment.

Fishing with a side nod

The first floats were created from improvised materials - foam, feathers, and today you can even buy an electronic float for fishing. By the way, these varieties are created specifically for night fishing, when the float is not visible on the water.

At the same time, there is no universal float: each type of fishing has its own characteristics, and the rod equipment must be matched accordingly. The sensitivity of the floats depends on how many places it is fixed on the line.

There are several types of floats, which we will now consider.

A side nod for a summer fishing rod can be purchased at a fishing store, or you can make it yourself. You just need to determine with what bait it will work. It is ideal if it is straight without load and bends at an angle of 90 degrees under the weight of the jig. Such tests, of course, need to be carried out after its manufacture.

The simplest side nod can be made from an ordinary plastic bottle... To do this, select a bottle of the required length and cut out a longitudinal blank 20x0.7 cm in size from it.

Then we narrow one of the ends of this strip to 0.3-0.5 mm and process it with fine sandpaper at the cut points to remove burrs. Now we take a thin paperclip and form a loop from it with two ends brought together.

This will be our end tulip. We tie this loop to the narrow end of the future nod with threads and cover the connection with waterproof glue.

Luminous float

The luminous float for night fishing is the ideal solution for those who prefer active rest even at night.

The well thought-out shape ensures a quick response, as the drag is minimal.

To make a luminous float for night fishing, you can coat it with a layer of luminescent paint, which will give off some of the light in the dark. All modern floats are complemented by reliable batteries that last all night. By changing the batteries, you can go fishing again.

How to make an electronic float?

Another type of floats are electronic. Fishermen note that for all the thoughtfulness of the design, they have certain drawbacks.

The first and most important thing is that the float signals a bite under any external influence - ripples, float immersion at least 5 mm under water. That is, it turns out that the float, instead of showing the bite to the fisherman, will confuse him.

The current during the operation of such a float is spent little, if it is dry, then energy will not be consumed. The batteries in this sophisticated and modern device are enough for 30 hours of constant lightning of the diodes.

For heavier jigs, a harder nod will be required. It is best to make it from thin sheet springy steel.

But where to get it, you ask? A good side nod will come from a regular construction tape. Here you don't even have to measure the length - be guided by the existing scale.

Using metal scissors, cut out the workpiece with the dimensions indicated above, and carefully sand it with sandpaper. The width of the strip can be made smaller, because the density of steel is much higher than that of plastic.

Test the nod by attaching a jig line to the thin end. If under its weight the gatehouse bends, then you are on the right track.

After sanding, attach a paperclip loop to the thin end and paint it a bright color.

The ideal shape of the float is considered to be long when loaded with a maximum of 3 g. With the help of such equipment, you can catch roach, perch, bream, crucian carp. The float easily moves through the water and just as easily stretches if there is a bite.

Most often fishing in calm water is carried out with bleak, therefore the tackle is brought to perfection.

How to attach a nod to a whip

Now that we have figured out the design of the nod, it remains to determine how to fix it on the top. The easiest way is to attach it to the whip perpendicularly and tie it with threads, filling the connection with waterproof glue. But this method is absolutely inconvenient, as it will cause problems when transporting the rod. Let's consider several alternative options.

You can take a piece of rubber insulation, which is used for gluing doors and windows. In essence, it is a thin, flexible, rectangular hose. Cutting off a piece of sealant 3-4 cm long, put it on the tip of the rod. If he does not sit tightly, we wrap electrical tape under him.

After that, in the upper part of the seal, using a scalpel or a knife with a sharp and thin blade, we make horizontal cuts 0.5-0.8 cm long. We insert our gatehouse into them, orienting its end in the right direction.

If there is no tulip at the rod tip, a drip tube or any other similar tube can be used instead of a seal. If the whip is equipped with a "tulip", take a cocktail tube, cut off a 3-4 cm piece from it and insert it into the hole between the ring and the tip. We push the nod into the tube and we get an almost finished tackle.

Bait

When choosing jigs, keep in mind that summer models are slightly larger than winter ones, so you do not need to be ashamed of size, unless we are talking about fishing in the current using tungsten models. But, since our kind of fishing is not used for strong current, we will restrict ourselves to jigs from lead and its alloys.

For ordinary lures, we will omit the description of the shape, since they, for the most part, have round or oval outlines. For them, the main thing is not appearance, but what is on the hook.

But for summer jig-free jars, shape and color are decisive factors. During this period of the year, you need to focus on the natural diet of fish, because summer is not the hungry time for it.

Summer fishing with the lateral nod of bream and roach will be more effective when using red, orange and yellow bezels, as well as their combinations with black. For a chub, dark colors are more suitable: brown, gray, black.

Crucian carp will react better to a lateral nod if the bait still contains bait of animal origin, therefore, it is preferable to use ordinary jigs to catch it.

Regarding the shape of the bait, something cannot be said unequivocally, because in the summer all fish are very finicky. It's good if you have a set of summer jigs at hand, including both conventional models for fishing with bait, and a variety of rewindless models: "devils", "ants", "goats", "drops", "uralki", etc.

The carrying capacity of such floats is sufficient, and it is better to equip the fishing rod with a spinning reel.

Different types of fishing floats have their own characteristics. Live fish are popular with fishermen, which are clearly visible on the water and under water.

The float is attached to the line with rubber rings or stopper knots.

Catching on the side nod in winter time of the year is well known to every fisherman. The absence of a float implies the use of a jig instead of a hook, which has certain advantages.

Fans of open water fishing should also consider the side nod for summer fishing. With such a tackle, it will be easy to throw the bait into a window of aquatic vegetation or into a narrow gap between bushes, and a long rod and clear visibility of the bite will make fishing exciting and effective.

Choosing the right summer rod

A side nod rod must meet the following requirements:

It will be easier to choose a side nod rod if you first decide what kind of fish we have to deal with. Most often it is used for catching crucian carp, roach, perch, ide - a medium-sized fish that feeds near the coast. A more powerful rod can be used to catch a predator, and a balancer or a vertical spoon can be used as bait.

Advice. Fiberglass and bamboo fishing rods can be used for fishing with a summer side nod in an open place, when it is possible to equip slingshots or install special stands, and the fish will be constantly fed.

Tackle device

You can fish with such tackle after the ice cover on rivers and lakes, during floods and high waters. The absence of the usual float gives many advantages:

  1. Thanks to the vertical guidance of the jig, the fishing rod can be used in reed-overgrown and heavily curled places without fear of snagging. Possibility to fish from bridges, steep banks and rocks, boats.
  2. Accurate feeding of the bait to the fish stopping place.
  3. A jig with an active bite of fish does not require live bait - the catching power of the tackle increases.
  4. Easy to make nod and low cost.
  5. The lightness and mobility of the fishing rod allows the angler to fish a large area of the water area.

The requirements for the nod itself are quite strict - he must have sufficient elasticity to support the weight of the jig, and be flexible to inform about a bite.

Zoologist, hydrobiologist. I am fond of fishing at a professional level.

Advice. Selecting a nod for a specific jig, hook the hook at the tip of the nod. He should deviate from the horizontal at an angle of about 30 - 40. If more - the nod is too soft.

Side nods for summer fishing usually are made slightly longer and larger than their winter counterparts... For a 6-meter rod, its length is 20 centimeters. The nod is always painted in a dark color with a bright stripe, and for better perception, a small ball or ring can be placed on the tip. He should not tire his eyes during long-term observation of him.

There is no single option for how best to place the nod - perpendicular to the blank or as an extension of the rod. The lateral position is better seen, with the longitudinal one - it is more convenient to hook the fish.

How to do it?

You can buy it at a fishing store, immediately picking up the required rigidity or stock up on several for different weights of the bait. But it will be more interesting to make a side nod with your own hands. This skill can be useful when away from home when the need for such a rig is urgent.

There may be several options for a side nod for summer fishing with your own hands from improvised means:

  1. From a plastic bottle, a plastic lid from a can or similar materials. To do this, a strip is cut out with a width of 1 centimeter and a length of 20-25. Then one end is sharpened to 3-5 mm. It remains to put on a few thin colored cambrics - the line will pass through them, and the nod will be more noticeable. We make a tulip from a wire loop and glue it to the tip of the nod. You can wrap the edge of the nod with a thin foil in 1-2 layers and grab it with glue, and
    after it dries, make a hole under the fishing line. Additionally, the tip can be painted with bright varnish.
  2. Nod can be crafted from the top knee of an old fishing rod... To do this, a suitable piece is cut off from it and a wire ring is attached to skip the fishing line. This design will be much stiffer and will work with heavy jigs and small spoons.
  3. From a strip of springy steel or tape measure. This material can be found in old mechanical watches or toys. A suitable blank is also cut out of it, cleaned and equipped with a tulip. Such a side nod to a summer fishing rod, made by hand, will be the most lifting and durable.

Now remains attach it to the top and the rigging of the summer rod with a side nod is ready. This can be done in any possible way. Let's analyze the simplest ones.

  • wind it with electrical tape or threads. Simple, but not practical or aesthetically pleasing;
  • we use a piece of rubber seal or a tube of a suitable diameter. Putting it on the tip of the rod, we make two cuts with a knife and insert our nod into them;
  • cut a plastic cocktail tube or analog on one side and put it on the top - the nod mount is ready;

Side nod fishing tactics

Playing with the bait is similar to working with a fishing rod in winter. The main thing is not to forget during the posting to float the jig downstream - this is how insects that have fallen into the water behave. Side nod fishing is effective with these techniques.

From the shore in some places it is often difficult due to dense vegetation. It is sometimes impossible to throw the tackle exactly into the "window" or on the line of demarcation between open water and plants. This is where a fishing rod with a side nod and a jig comes to the rescue of anglers. A long rod, no float clinging to algae, and a clear bite alarm are not all of its advantages.

In this article, we will look at where and how the side nod is applied, as well as how to make your own tackle for summer fishing on the jig.

What is the essence of the side nod summer fishing rod

In the minds of the majority, the jig is an exclusively winter activity, because the essence of such fishing lies in the correct posting of the bait.

Conventional summer fishing rods equipped with a float do not allow fishing in areas with dense aquatic plants, especially when it comes to casting over long distances. Even if the rig goes down to the bottom, the float will get stuck or snagged.

A side-nod rod is a different matter altogether. A long rod allows you to "bring" the rig to the right place, the jig falls to the bottom without any problems, and a nod helps it to play at the slightest shake of the blank.

Where to catch

They fish with a similar tackle on rivers with weak currents, as well as in stagnant water. As for the location, you can fish for the summer side nod anywhere, both from the shore and from the boat. In the latter case, of course, a long rod is not required.

This tackle is great for fishing in snags and in areas where there are flooded trees. It is also suitable for fishing from a cliff for hunting such a careful fish as a chub.

What kind of fish can you fish with a jig in the summer?

You can fish with a jig in the summer for any fish, including predatory. If this is an ordinary jig with the addition of maggots, bloodworms or caddis flies, roach, crucian carp, perch, and even pike perch can take on it. When using a rewinder, you can safely count on a bite of a chub, roach, crucian carp, carp, the same perch.

Rod for summer jigging

When choosing a rod, start with the material of its manufacture, because here one of the main factors is the weight of the blank. The smaller it is, the more comfortable fishing will be. It is best to use carbon fiber for these purposes. The weight of the longest rod made of this material does not exceed 350 g.

Now about the design. Side nod fishing in the summer involves the use of a telescopic blank. Neither plug nor solid rods are used here. As for the length of the blank, it should be at least 5 meters.

Pay attention to the tuning. Fast action rods with a long, stiff whip are more suitable.

Coil

There are no special requirements for a reel for this type of fishing. Some anglers generally use a reel, however, for fishing large fish, such as bream or crucian carp, it is better to use inertialess. Take some inexpensive branded model with a spool size 2500-3000 that has a friction brake.

Fishing line

As the main line, both monofilament and braid are suitable. Recommended thickness for thread is 0.2 mm, for cord - 0.15 mm. There must be at least 30 meters of line wound on the reel.

And one more mandatory requirement - it must be clearly visible due to its bright color, contrasting with the color of the environment.

Making a simple plastic nod

A side nod for a summer fishing rod can be purchased at a fishing store, or you can make it yourself. You just need to determine with what bait it will work. It is ideal if it is straight without load and bends at an angle of 90 degrees under the weight of the jig. Such tests, of course, need to be carried out after its manufacture.

The easiest side nod can be made from an ordinary plastic bottle. To do this, select a bottle of the required length and cut out a longitudinal blank of 20x0.7 cm from it. It is recommended to paint the end of the nod in red or orange to make it better visible. This can be done with regular nail polish.

Plastic nod from the knee of an old fishing rod

A tighter nod can be crafted from an old or broken one for summer fishing. To do this, detach one of the thinnest elbows and cut a strip of the indicated dimensions from it. Adjust its width to fit a certain weight of the jig. Attach a paperclip loop to the end of the gate as described above. Color the end in one of the bright colors (red, yellow, orange).

How to make a summer side nod from roulette

If the whip is equipped with a "tulip", take a cocktail tube, cut off a 3-4 cm piece from it and insert it into the hole between the ring and the tip. We push the nod into the tube and we get an almost finished tackle.

Bait

Catching on the side nod in the summer will be effective only if successful selection bait. Four factors play a major role here:

  • form;
  • the size;
  • color.

When choosing jigs, keep in mind that summer models are slightly larger than winter ones, so you do not need to be ashamed of size, unless we are talking about fishing in the current using tungsten models. But, since ours is not used for a strong current, we will restrict ourselves to jigs made of lead and its alloys.

It's good if you have a set of summer jigs at hand, including both conventional models for fishing with bait, and a variety of rewindless models: "devils", "ants", "goats", "drops", "uralki", etc.

Methods for fishing with a summer rod with a side nod

Side nod fishing technique in summer

For summer fishing on a jig, there are several types of postings:

  • simple vertical;
  • vertical taut;
  • playing with your fingers;
  • jerky;
  • bottom horizontal;
  • drawing wiring;

Dragging the bait along the bottom is possible only on the territory of the reservoir open from aquatic plants. The jig is lowered to the bottom, after which the rod is slowly taken to the side, dragging the bait along the bottom surface.

Passive guidance is intended for lazy anglers who do not want to contribute to the game of the jig. Here you can apply two options: lower the bait to the bottom so that it just lay there, or half-water - so that a slight current swayed it.

Conclusion

The given recommendations regarding the choice of the jig, the method and technique of fishing, cannot be obligatory. Any fishing is a kind of experiment, during which a fisherman, even the most seasoned one, gets a certain experience that will be useful to him next time.

Therefore, do not hesitate to experiment with both lures and fishing techniques. This is the only way to comprehend all the secrets of this fascinating activity called "fishing".
