Dates of competitions at the Olympic games in Japan. Tokyo Olympics add five new sports Five new Olympics sports

Summer Olympics 2020 is the most important thing sporting event 2020. From July 24 to August 9, athletes from more than 200 countries will compete for awards in football, heavyweight and athletics, volleyball, karate, rhythmic gymnastics, boxing - do not count all the sports in which the participants of the Olympics will compete! Russians will also be among the applicants for the trophies. Along with the Chinese, Americans and British athletes from Russia, they claim to win the unofficial medal standings!

A large-scale sports event will be held in the summer of 2020. Athletes from approximately 205 countries will compete for medals from July 24 to August 9.

The host country of the Olympics will be Japan. The competition will take place in the capital of the Land of the Rising Sun in the city of Tokyo. Also, some of the competitions will be organized in the prefectures of the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido.

The venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics was selected on September 7, 2013. Tokyo's rivals were Madrid, Istanbul, Rome, Baku, Doha and other respected cities. But only Madrid, Istanbul and Tokyo were allowed before the final vote. In the end, the Japanese capital won the victory with an almost twofold advantage.

For Tokyo, this is not the first experience of hosting the Olympics. For the first time, a major Japanese city became a center Summer Games in 1964.

Sports at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Summer Olympics participants will compete for sets of awards in several dozen sports.

Watch to the end! - EASTER in 2020

Compared to the last edition of the Olympics, the Tokyo Games have expanded their competitive program to include surfing, karate, baseball, skateboarding and rock climbing. In addition, a number of sports such as fencing, table tennis and basketball, new disciplines have emerged.

2020 Summer Olympics symbols

The 2020 Summer Olympics emblem is a sphere on a white background made of dark blue quadrangles of various sizes and shapes. Under the sphere is the inscription "TOKYO 2020", and under it are the traditional Olympic rings.

According to the creators of the emblem, quadrangular figures of various shapes and sizes symbolize the participating countries, differing from each other in culture, language, mentality, but united into a single whole.

The mascot was an anime superhero named Miraytova.

This choice should not be surprising. After all, the mascot was chosen by schoolchildren from the elementary grades.

Another superhero, Someichi, makes up a couple of Miraitove. But unlike Miraytova, he is the Paralympics 2020 mascot.

Summer Olympics 2020 volunteers

Well, what a large-scale sports event without volunteers !? It is expected that about 90,000 volunteers will be attracted to serve the Games! The selection of volunteers will take place in several stages. The first of them will start in mid-September 2018.

To become a volunteer, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • have a desire to acquire volunteer skills;
  • own the minimum set of phrases in popular foreign languages;
  • have a free schedule for the duration of the Games.

More information can be found on the official website of the 2020 Olympics - www.tokyo2020.org.

Overall medal standings at the 2020 Summer Olympics

China and the United States are claiming victory in the overall medal standings. To a lesser extent, Russia and Great Britain can count on the first line.

Four years ago, Americans were the best in Rio de Janeiro. US officials won 121 medals, 46 of which were of the highest dignity.

The second line went to the natives of Great Britain. China closed the top three. Russia showed the 4th result. The gap between our country and China was 7 gold awards.

Most likely, Japanese athletes will show excellent results. They are able not only to enter the TOP-5, but also to compete for a place in the top three.

Russia at the 2020 Olympics

The gaze of domestic fans, of course, will be drawn to the Russians. Our athletes will have a hard time. Competition in world sports is outrageous. The times when domestic athletes stamped one medal after another are irrevocably gone. In addition, the doping scandal, which has been dragging on for many years, will have a detrimental effect. Many of our athletes have been disqualified. Great damage was done to the image Russian sports... But Russia will try to recover from the consequences of the machinations of sports officials by the start of the Summer Olympics!

Japan Games Organizers Nominate Eight New Olympic Candidates to the IOC

The organizing committee for the 2020 Olympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo, has unveiled a shortlist of new sports that could add to the Olympic program from 2020. It included bowling, softball and baseball, karate, squash, rock climbing, surfing, roller skating and wushu. Final decision on these sports International Olympic Committee will accept in August 2016. In the meantime, "MK" will acquaint you with these disciplines more closely.

In December 2014, a new IOC strategy was adopted, according to which the organizers of the Games were given the opportunity to participate in the formation of the Olympic program and introduce into it popular sports, for example, for themselves. True, the final word still rests with the International Olympic Committee. The following sports are candidates for the Tokyo 2020 Games: bowling, softball and baseball, karate, squash, rock climbing, surfing, rollerblading and wushu, although up to this date 33 federations were accepted. In which of them medals will still be played in Tokyo, the IOC will decide in August 2016. Already now we can say with confidence that all disciplines will not be chosen: the IOC will be limited to one or two, most likely. Indeed, the same new strategy states that the number of participants in the Summer Olympics should remain within 10,500 athletes, and the number of awards to be played within 310 sets. Rio 2016 will feature 306 disciplines. That is, you can add as many as four sets, but if team sports are included in the program, it may be necessary to cut the number of participants in other sports.

What are these sports that can add to the Olympic program at the Tokyo Games?

Bowling

International Federation bowling alley (FIQ) was founded in 1952 in Hamburg, and now it includes more than 140 national federations... It regulates two types of bowling: nine-pin bowling (more common in Europe) and ten-pin bowling (worldwide).

The first world championship took place in 1954, in the 70s the International Bowling Federation was recognized by the IOC. The Sports Bowling Federation of Russia has been a full member of the International Federation since 1997.

For each of the two types of bowling, championships are held for men and women, both team and individual.

Japan would be very happy to introduce bowling into the Olympic program. In the Land of the Rising Sun, the bowling boom began in the 60s of the twentieth century. Then, in a few years in Japan, more than 120 thousand ball lanes appeared. Then, however, there was a recession. But now the Japanese bowling market is the second largest in the world after the American one.

The largest international bowling competition is the Qubica AMF World Cup. Russian athletes took part in more than 15 of them, as well as in the world, European and youth and youth championships. More than 150 athletes in total. True, we will hardly be able to claim high places at the Olympics if this sport is included in the program.

Baseball (men) and softball (women)

Both sports already had an Olympic residence permit, but after the 2008 Games they were excluded from it.

In general, demonstration baseball competitions were held during the very first Games of modern times. They made their debut in 1904 and since then the competition has been held during 12 Olympic tournaments. But it was not until 1992 that official sets of awards were played for the first time. IN last time baseball tournament in the framework of the Olympics was held in Beijing. At the same time, the US team won gold only once during this time (in 2000 in Sydney). Cuba celebrated the victory three times (1992, 1996, 2004) and once South Korea(2008). Japan, where baseball is also incredibly popular, has won two bronze medals (1992 and 2004) and one silver (1996).

Baseball is currently played in over 120 countries around the world. The Federation of Baseball, Softball and Lapts was created in the late 1980s in the USSR, and after the collapse of the Union in 1992, the Russian Baseball Federation was organized. Now the Russian national team is in the top ten best teams Europe, but this is clearly not enough to qualify in 2020 for Olympic medals.

Softball is a softer version of baseball. Men also play it, but only women's teams took part in the Olympics. The International Softball Federation was founded in 1965. And in the 80s, softball, along with baseball, began to develop in Russia (then in the USSR). In 1992, the first open championship Russia, and since that time the teams have been participating in international competitions, but they failed to make their names in the history of Olympic softball.

On the first Olympic tournament in 1996, the USA national team celebrated the victory (2nd place - China, 3rd place - Australia). In 2000, the places were distributed as follows: USA, Japan, Australia. 2004th: USA, Australia, Japan. At the last (to date) softball Games in Beijing, Japan still snatched gold, leaving the United States and Australia behind.

Karate

The problem with this sport is that there are many of its styles and, accordingly, federations that united into the World Karate Federation in 1990, and it is she who represents the interests of this sport in the IOC.

World Championships have been held since 1970. The strongest in karate are the founders of this sport, the Japanese, as well as the French and Egyptians.

Roller skating

The International Rollerball Federation was founded in April 1924. At first, its purpose was to oversee the roller skating competition. But in 1947 the first world championship was held in figure skating on roller skates. In general, in roller sports there are many different types, as well as repetition of winter (biathlon, hockey, figure skating), as well as original ones: overcoming the distance at speed on a track or highway, etc.

Roller skating has become indicative sports at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

The largest competitions are the world championships in various types of roller sports. The Roller Sports Federation of Russia was founded in 2004.

Squash

Squash - game view sports with ball and racket indoors. Born in England, but at the beginning of the twentieth century began to creep around the world.

International squash competitions are held by three organizations - the Association of Male Professional Players, the Association of Female Professional Players and the World Squash Federation.

Squash is played in Eastern Europe, Australia, United Arab Emirates, North America, Egypt, Southeast Asia.

The strongest players are England, Pakistan, Egypt.

Rock climbing

There are three disciplines in which international competitions: climbing for difficulty, climbing for speed and bouldering (a series of short difficult runs). The greatest successes among Russian men in bouldering (became world champions from 2005 to 2012) and among women in speed climbing: world champions 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014.

Surfing

The International Surfing Association is promoting this sport to the Olympic program. She also hosts world championships. But the most popular in the world is the world surfing tour, in which professionals take part. It is held under the auspices of the Association of Surfing Professionals (since 2015 - the World Surfing League). All surfers strive to get there.

The first Russian surfing championship was held in 2009 and included three stages of the competition: Dominican Republic, Bali and Portugal.

Strongest Athletes: Australia, Brazil, New Zealand and etc.

Everything martial arts China are united in the name "wushu". The International Wushu Federation appeared only in 1990 and immediately organized competitions at the summer Asian Games... Already since next year the world championships began to be held. The International Wushu Federation includes more than 140 national federations. Russians have been present there since the very beginning - since 1991.

Since then, most of the medals at the world championships have been earned by athletes from the following countries (in descending order): China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Iran, Russia.

Most recently, the 2020 Olympics schedule was officially announced. What disciplines will the games open and who will be the first 2020 Olympics champion?

Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020

  • Istanbul;
  • Madrid;
  • Buenos Aires.

New sports at the Tokyo Olympics

In 2020, the International Olympic Committee will introduce several new disciplines into the program. You can get acquainted with all of them on our website.

First Olympic Champion 2020

First kits Olympic gold in Tokyo will be raffled already on July 25 among athletes engaged in:

  • archery;
  • cycling;
  • fencing;
  • judo;
  • shooting;
  • taekwondo;
  • kettlebell lifting.

It is possible that the first winners will include our compatriots.

The 2020 Olympics program, which will be held in the Japanese capital Tokyo, included five sports at the IOC session: baseball / softball, karate, surfing, rock climbing and skateboarding.

Thanks to the inclusion of these events, 18 events will be added at the next Olympics, in which 474 athletes will take part.

"The Tokyo Games could be one of the most unique in Olympic history with these five new sports," Tokyo Mayor Yoshiro Mori commented on the IOC's decision.

Interestingly, according to the regulations adopted even earlier, these five types will not be required for subsequent Summer Olympics... Each host city of the Games can present five sports for holding competitions in them at its Olympics.

Baseball / Softball

Men's baseball and its version for women - softball (or rather, the fast-pitch version of softball varieties) will not be newcomers to the Olympic program.

Baseball has been held in the Olympics since 1896, while softball was included in the 1996 Olympic program at the Atlanta Games.

This is hardly surprising, given that the undisputed favorites in these sports are the national teams of the United States.

This is precisely the flip side of the medal: in 2005, the regular session of the IOC excluded baseball and softball from the number of Olympic sports due to insufficient popularity in the world.

At the Games in Beijing, these types of programs, as regular members of the Olympic family, were presented for the last time, after which they were not in London and will not be in Rio.

It should not be surprising that the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics preferred to recommend this particular sport for competitions in it at the 2020 Games - Japan is unconditionally second in the world rankings and is unlikely to miss out on two silver sets.

There is absolutely nothing for the Russian national teams in this kind of program. Actually, almost certainly our compatriots will not be represented by either men or women.

Karate

Another traditional Japanese sport. Karate has long been counting on being included in the Olympic program on a permanent basis, but could not achieve this in any way.

The question of including karate in the program of the London Games in 2012 was seriously considered, but this question did not pass at the vote of the IOC commission.

The main reasons why karate has never been represented at the Olympics so far are the prohibitively high injury rate and, perhaps more importantly, the presence of too many different self-sufficient federations that are not united under one umbrella.

Nevertheless, the IOC in 2015 recognized this fight as official Olympic view sports, and now gave approval for its introduction into the program of the Games-2020.

As for the Russian prospects, karate may well bring our team a medal, since it is well developed in the country. Russia has its own world champions, so the ROC should be pleased with the inclusion of this sport in the program of competitions in Tokyo.

Surfing

Surfers all over the world have long dreamed of becoming an Olympic sport. As examples, they cite curling, trampoline jumping and even fencing and rowing - types that are much less popular and widespread, but in Olympic family firmly entrenched.

The talks about the possible inclusion of surfing in the program of the Olympics on an ongoing basis have been going on for a long time, and the appearance of this sport on an ongoing basis at the Games-2024 is quite realistic. Well, in Tokyo there will be a kind of "test of the pen".

Count on medals here Russian athletes it won't be easy. However, there is still time until 2020. Perhaps, surf stars will also appear in our country, since in Russia this type is becoming more popular every year.

Rock climbing

Sport climbing has long been trying to become an Olympic sport. Back in 1995, the IOC officially recognized the international federation UIAA, which at that time ruled this sport.

In 2002, the UIAA made a dossier for the inclusion of rock climbing in the program of the Turin Olympics - then this sport was perceived more like winter.

This did not happen, and in 2007 the International Federation of Sports Climbing appeared, uniting 68 countries of the world under its auspices.

The popularity of this sport is also growing, and in many countries rock climbing is already included in the school curriculum.

Skateboarding

A slightly different situation with skateboarding. Yes, the sport is gaining popularity around the world even faster than rock climbing and windsurfing, and competitions in Tokyo promise to be exciting.

But the Russian national team has nothing to count on in this type of program. If the situation does not change in four years (which is unlikely to happen), then the Russian team will be a stranger at this celebration of life.
