Lessons on practical pistol shooting. Basic pistol shooting techniques

If you have not yet had a chance to hold a pistol in your hands and shoot from it, then in this article you will learn about the correct grip and aiming technique. In theory, aiming with a pistol is fairly easy, but you still need some practice to develop the skill of handling the weapon safely, holding firmly and aiming at the target. So go to the shooting range, and first read and remember what you need to do to hit the target.

Basic pistol shooting techniques

What do you need?

  • Target

Grip (hold) the pistol

Keep the pistol in your dominant hand. Your dominant hand should wrap around the handle of the pistol so that thumb lay on the inside of the trunk.

  • Your middle finger, ring finger, and little finger should wrap around the outside and front of the grip.
  • The index finger should rest on the outside of the trigger guard.
  • This way of holding a gun will give you maximum amount leverage necessary to reduce the swing of the weapon in the hand during recoil.

Place your non-dominant hand on the other side of the handle. It will support the other hand and act as an additional lever when shooting.

  • Place your hand as high as possible on the handle.
  • All four fingers should be under the trigger guard, and the index finger should rest firmly on the bottom of the trigger guard.
  • The thumb should be pointing forward and touching the other thumb.

Stance when firing a pistol

Assume a shooting position. Stand up straight with your feet firmly on the ground and aim the pistol at the target. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart with your knees bent slightly.

  • This position will allow you to move easily while providing your body with stability.
  • Raise the pistol in front of you. Your arms should be extended forward and slightly bent at the elbows. The gun should not be near your face.
  • Tilt your body forward a little, imagine that you are "drilling" the wall with a drill. This will help you maintain your balance despite the recoil when shooting.

Aiming technique when shooting

Take aim. Follow the further instructions to properly aim at the target.

  • Most people have the dominant eye on the same side as the dominant hand, but there are exceptions.
  • To determine which eye is dominant, connect your thumb and forefinger together in a ring. Then extend your hand and look through the ring at some distant object.
  • Begin to gradually move the ring closer to your face, keeping both eyes open, but do not look at it. As a result, you will bring your hand to your dominant eye.

During aiming, the front sight and rear sight of the pistol must be in line. The pistol has a rear sight and a front sight. When you aim, the front sight should be exactly in the center between the two edges of the rear sight slot.

  • The front sight consists of one part, and the rear sight consists of two parts with a slot.
  • There should be the same distance between the front sight and the edges of the rear sight slot.
  • The top of the front sight should also be flush with the edges of the rear sight.

Take aim. When you aim with a pistol, you will need to look at the rear sight, front sight, and the target. Of course, it is physically impossible to look at all three objects at once. Therefore, try to focus mainly on the front sight and rear sight. In this case, it is recommended to focus on the front sight (closer to the muzzle of the pistol).

  • The target should look a little blurry. You should be able to see it, but it should be in the background and less clear than the front sight and rear sight.
  • More specifically, you must concentrate on the front sight. It will help you determine the relative position of the pistol to your target.

Choose a spot on the target. The target has three places to aim. No location is preferable to the other, so you have to decide for yourself which one will be the most convenient for aiming.

  • You can aim directly at the center of the target. To do this, you need to accordingly aim the upper part of the front sight at the center. The line of the top of the front sight must also coincide with the horizontal line of the center of the target.
  • You can aim directly for the bullseye (this method of aiming is called 6:00 o'clock). When actually shooting, aim so that top part the flies slightly went beyond the lower part of the black field of the apple.
  • Or you can aim just below the apple (sub 6 aim). In actual shooting, the front sight should be directed approximately to the middle of the white part of the target field below the bull's-eye.

Concentrate. You will need patience and concentration. If you aim carelessly, then you will probably miss.

  • Before shooting, make sure that the front sight is correctly positioned in the rear sight slot.
  • Take your time and be calm. If you freak out and start trying to pull the trigger hard, you could lose your target and miss.

Pull the trigger and fire. Do this confidently, evenly, and do not tighten.

  • Pull the trigger evenly. Press only on the front of the trigger.
  • First pull the trigger until you feel resistance.
  • Then keep pulling the trigger until you fire. Try not to expect it, as this often results in a miss.

Shooting safety

  • Be sure to keep your index finger on the bracket before shooting.
  • Point the gun in a safe direction. You should always point the pistol away from people to avoid injuring anyone or causing damage to other people's property. If you are on a shooting range, hold the gun pointing downward.
  • Consider that your pistol is loaded even if it is not. This is necessary to prevent a possible tragedy.
  • You should clearly see where your target is, as well as all the space around it and beyond. It is important to make sure that all precautions are taken and that no one gets into the line of fire. The target must be positioned so that it does not pose a danger to anyone or anything in the vicinity of it. If you intend to shoot on private property, make sure there are no homes or businesses nearby.

According to the rules and regulations International Confederation of Practical Shooting (IPSC), or in English International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), since its inception, THREE "golden" basic rules shooting safety, also called the ARROW CODE:

1. My weapon is always loaded!

In any scenario, in any case and with any weapon, we handle as with charged(remember how much you've heard about a gun that hung on the wall for several years and then suddenly fired?)

2. I will aim my weapon only where I am going to shoot!

Common aiming mistakes

Errors happen when aiming incorrectly. They occur if the front sight is incorrectly installed in the rear sight slot. How correctly you aim can be determined by bullet hits on the target.

  • If the bullet fell below the center of the target, then when aiming, the upper part of the front sight was below the upper edges of the rear sight slot.
  • If the bullet hit above the center of the target, then the top of the front sight was above the upper edges of the rear sight slot.
  • If the bullet lay to the right of the center, then the front sight was closer to right side rear sight slots.
  • If the bullet landed to the left of the center of the target, then the front sight was located closer to the left side of the rear sight slot.

Parallel displacement. This error occurs when the front sight and rear sight are set correctly, but your hand throws up on recoil.

  • It will all depend on where the recoil directs your hand - up or down. Accordingly, try to aim just above the center of the target or slightly below.

Errors when holding the pistol. Parallel displacement is not the only error that can occur when shooting. Bullet holes in the target can also indicate other errors.

  • If the bullet hits the target closer to your dominant side, then you are most likely gripping the pistol too hard with your thumb or squeezing the trigger too hard. Accordingly, if the bullet landed on the other side of the center of the target, then you press too weakly on the trigger.
  • If you are right-handed and the bullet hit the lower right corner (or vice versa, if you are left-handed), then you are probably gripping your pistol too much when you pull the trigger. If you hit the lower left corner, then you are most likely pulling the trigger hard.
  • If you are right-handed and the bullet hits the upper right corner (or vice versa, if you are left-handed), then you expect a recoil when fired. If the bullet hits the upper left corner, then you also expect recoil or do not “follow the shot”.

Now you know (in theory) how to properly stand on your feet, hold a pistol and aim with it at a target. It remains only to consolidate this knowledge with practice. Therefore - boldly to the shooting range!

Conclusion:

For those who just want to come and shoot, the most cost-effective option is to get into the "happy hours" of the Academy of Practical Shooting. The cost of 100 shots will be only 2500 rubles.

If luck is not on your side, then your choice can be stopped at the Vystrel SC, where from 12 to 16 o'clock the cost of 100 shots is 3200 rubles, and the rest of the time - 4000 rubles. But, you need to remember that only 4 types of pistols are available for shooting here. Although for the first visit it probably doesn't make much difference what to shoot from, the sensations will be equally good.

If you want to shoot from several types of weapons, you should go to the "Object", the cost here on Mondays is 4900 rubles, you will be given to shoot from 4 pistols, one of which will be in the "Roni" attachment (with a stock and a handle for more accurate shooting).

If you decide to make practical shooting your main hobby and practice regularly, then again, first of all, you should pay attention to shooting club "Shot"... For club members, 100 patrons on weekdays from 12:00 to 16:00 will cost 2,000 rubles. + 600 rub. payment for the instructor's services. The rest of the time the cost of a shot is 25 rubles. + the same 600 rubles. instructor services, i.e. 100 shots will turn out - 3100 rubles. 4 lessons per month - 10,400 rubles, if you come on weekdays from 12 to 4 pm, or 12,400 rubles, if you practice at any other time.

Here, the most budgetary option for training is obtained, but the club does not have a special program according to which all instructors would work. Therefore, everything you do depends entirely on the instructor.

In addition, a sports belt with a holster and pouches is not issued here, and this itself already limits the learning process, because some actions will not be available to you.

On the other hand, if you really want to practice shooting, you can purchase all the necessary equipment yourself. Below will be the calculation for training in other clubs, it will be seen that training in "Shot" is much cheaper, and the savings can be used to buy equipment.

You can also sign up for Unibos... 4 lessons per month of 100 rounds will cost you 12,000 rubles if you shoot from domestic weapons. Cartridges for the rest of the pistols will be slightly more expensive, and the total cost will increase accordingly. Classes are held on Sundays. But here you need to register in advance and wait for the group to be typed.

If the budget allows, you can enroll in practical shooting courses in SC "Gepard"... 8 lessons per month, approximately 3750 rubles. each one. But this month you are guaranteed to be taught how to shoot well. This club trains many professional shooters who take part in both federal competitions and world championships.

In SC "Object" after passing the Proshooter course, the cost of a shot from 10 to 15 hours will be equal to 20 rubles. for 100 rounds you will give only 2000 rubles. and do it yourself. But to take this course, you have to sweat and spend financially. Let's count:

  • Option 1 - you come with two comrades. In this case, you pay 2700 rubles. for 100 rounds, 500 rubles. for equipment and 600 rubles. instructor services. Total 3800 rubles. Those. 4 lessons per month will be worth it RUB 15200 The only problem is where to find these two friends who could train with you regularly.
  • Option 2 - you come with a friend alone. In this case, you pay 2700 rubles. for 100 rounds, 500 rubles. for equipment and 1150 rubles. for the services of an instructor. Total RUB 4350 Those. 4 lessons per month will be worth it RUB 17400
  • Option 3 - with friends who would share your hobby, a big problem, and you are doing one (the most realistic option, in fact). You will have to pay 2,700 rubles. for 100 rounds, 500 rubles. for equipment and 2300 rubles. for the services of an instructor. Total 5500 rubles. Those. 4 lessons per month will be worth it RUB 22,000

On my own behalf, I can add that the plus of training at the Facility, despite the high price, is that here they teach you how to shoot, and you can always choose an instructor with whom you will be comfortable training. The program itselfProshooter consists of 10 tests, and in my subjective opinion, it is not quite balanced. In particular, it was not entirely correct to put the very difficult "Change of store" classification in second place. Only more or less trained shooters who, for example, are fond of airsoft, can pass it the first time. For the rest, it will not be realistic. As a result, you can spend several workouts on this test alone.

On the other hand, in the future, you can take several tests for one workout, the club rules do not prohibit this. The rest of the tests are not so difficult, so it will be quite possible to pass 2 or even 3 per workout (checked on myself).

We compared prices in shooting clubs based on the cost of 100 shots. But you need to understand that this is the minimum volume that makes sense to take with regular training. Better, of course, to take more - 200-300 rounds. After 100 shots, the shooter is just beginning to understand his mistakes, the next 50-100 shots are already shooting more consciously, trying to fix them, and another 50-100 shots to fix.

If your goal is to compete in any shooting competition, then you will have to train not once a week, but two or even three times. Accordingly, the costs will rise significantly.

What you need to take with you when you first visit a shooting club

To visit the shooting club, it is better to make an appointment in advance by phone. You must have a passport with you. In some clubs, it is required only for the first visit, in others, you will have to take it with you at all times. It is better to clarify this question directly with the club staff during the appointment.

On the first visit, you most likely will not have to actively move while shooting, you will not need to run, overcome any obstacles, etc., this is still not airsoft or paintball, although at competitions practical shooting the arrows move no less actively. But on the first visit, all your shots will be fired from static position, so the question "What to wear?" not so critical already. Normal casual clothes are fine, girls, of course, are better off avoiding skirts and long heels anyway, so as not to lose stability when shooting.

All the necessary equipment will be given to you at the club. In the first lesson, usually only headphones and glasses are given. On the subsequent ones - an additional belt with pouches and a holster.

How many shots are enough to shoot enough

Usually, 100-150 shots per person are enough for an hour training. You can take several types of weapons, for example, shoot from the legendary Glock and Beretta, Makarov and TT, determine for yourself which pistol you like best, which one is more comfortable for you to shoot and better hits. You can try shooting with a pistol and a carbine, or with several pistols and carbines. The only thing in different clubs their conditions, somewhere in the first lesson you will be offered some kind of standard set of weapons, somewhere you will need to pay extra for each additional pistol or carbine.

Here it is necessary to clarify that firing live ammunition in bursts from automatic weapons is prohibited in Russia. Therefore, if you have a great desire to fire a couple of bursts from the Kalashnikov, then this can only be done with blank cartridges. Some shooting clubs offer this service.

During the recording, it is better to clarify whether the entire arsenal presented on the shooting club's website is available for order. It so happens that the site contains many models, but in reality, some of the weapons are not available for order. Of course, for those who do not really care what to shoot from, this is not a problem, but if you wanted to shoot from a particular model of a pistol, and for some reason it is not available (under repair or something else), and it will be found out only directly in the club, it will be a little offensive. Therefore, it is better to immediately clarify everything by phone.

Practical shooting competition video:

Since its inception, the pistol has become the most affordable individual fire weapon that can be used for both self-defense and offensive purposes. The ability to wield a weapon determines the subsequent effectiveness of the use of a pistol for various purposes. In parallel with the improvement of the design of weapons, the skills of owning pistols were improved. Over time, in order to improve the skill and skills of using weapons, various teaching methods appeared, which formed the basis for the study of techniques and tactics. One of the main elements of a shooter's training is hands-on training, during which training in pistol shooting is carried out.

Shooting training can be conducted in different conditions, both for applied purposes and with the aim of improving combat skills. Interest in hand-held firearms has become the main argument, in view of which the ability to shoot correctly and accurately becomes not only a professional necessity.

Many people like to shoot. For some, it may just be a hobby, while for others, practical pistol shooting becomes a road to big sports. Competitions in bullet shooting can be safely called the most spectacular and exciting. Athletes compete in the ability to quickly and accurately hit targets at different distances. Exercises during the competition must be verified and honed. Success can be achieved only if the athlete accurately and correctly performed all the approaches, was able to accurately hit all the set goals, while avoiding gross tactical and technical mistakes.

Despite the fact that sports shooting is based on the same rules and requirements for handling personal firearms, live pistol shooting has cardinal differences. Here, it is already important not only the ability of the shooter to hit the target, but also the tactics of combat, the actions of the shooter, depending on the prevailing situation. The ability to correctly position yourself for shooting, the ability to fire to kill from any position, while maintaining a high rate of fire, are key safety factors for the shooter.

Pistol shooting technique. Key Features

In order to learn how to shoot a pistol cool, one desire is not enough. Several aspects are important here at once, each of which determines, in the complex, the accuracy of firing and the effectiveness of personal weapons. The psychological factor is almost the main one on which the marksman's accuracy depends. Correctly coping with the excitement that, in any case, the uninitiated person experiences, holding a pistol in his hands, is the key to successful and accurate shooting. Techniques that you need to know when handling weapons help to achieve excellence in action. Compliance with the rules and requirements during training sessions on shooting, will ensure not only the safety of the shooter and others, but also the subsequent confident possession of the weapon.

Despite the fact that any pistol shooting at first glance seems quite easy and understandable, mastering the art of shooting will take a certain amount of time, training aids and guidance from a professional.

If sport shooting requires high skill, moral and psychological stability from an athlete, then practical shooting classes can be great fun. Having mastered the art of shooting from handguns, you will not only get a lot of pleasure and adrenaline, but you will also be able to fully experience your own physical capabilities and condition. However, picking up a gun is just the beginning. In order to successfully master the technique of using weapons, even for shooting from a Makarov pistol, you must have theoretical training. The first thing to learn is the commands that are given during the shooting. This required condition during any training sessions held in the shooting range or on fresh air, under the guidance of an instructor or independently.

The commands you give determine your order of actions on the shooting range, on the implementation of which not only the result of the shooting depends, but also technical training arrow, its safety. Teams during training or shooting sports must meet the following requirements:

  • observance of the sequence in the commands given;
  • commands should be clear and understandable, without ambiguity;
  • it is always necessary to observe the order in the submission of commands;
  • clear execution of the command is obligatory, without arbitrary actions;
  • any team is submitted taking into account the main requirement - compliance with safety precautions during shooting lessons.

These requirements equally apply to all shooting classes, both with an applied purpose and as training in the combat use of weapons. Combat pistol shooting differs not only in training methods, but also in weapon handling techniques. Tactical techniques are a key element of training sessions, during which shooting from personal weapons is practiced in a variety of situations, aiming and firing skills are improved from any position.

Tactical shooting as the main element of combat training

Along with sports shooting, where an important aspect is a clear sequence of the athlete's actions, the combat use of a pistol is distinguished by the manner of the shooter's behavior. When shooting in combat, it is imperative to take into account the level of training of the shooter, his skills in handling weapons and knowledge of his combat capabilities.

Combat shooting is both accuracy, speed and close combat tactics. Rarely does a shooter have enough time in combat to prepare for accurate shooting. The current situation requires the immediate adoption of the right decision. This applies to a greater extent to those persons whose profession is constantly associated with the risk of using personal weapons for combat purposes.

Only in movies and in detective novels can you see how rangers, gangsters and policemen masterfully shoot pistols. In reality, it is far from easy to master weapons perfectly. To use a pistol with maximum efficiency as a means of destruction, you need to learn the simplest techniques to automatism. Only knowing the basics, techniques and rules of pistol shooting, you can work on improving the art of owning personal weapons in the future.

Sports training only from afar resembles fighting techniques during shooting from a combat pistol. During tactical shooting, the main thing is not only to hit the target, but also to protect yourself from enemy fire. The usual sports stance will not help here. The position from which you have to fire to defeat is often associated with the natural and instinctive desire of a person to hide from return fire. During a real collision, literally everything that can affect the effectiveness of the combat use of firearms is taken into account. In addition to the psychological effect, when shooting with a pistol, you need to take into account the distance to the visible target, the presence of interference for a direct shot, atmospheric phenomena and time. Shooting at different times of the day, day or night, in the morning or in the evening leaves an imprint on the behavior of the shooter. In modern conditions, a combat clash with the use of firearms is fleeting.

For example: The standards during which the techniques of conducting firefighting with the use of PM pistols are practiced, give a time of no more than 2.8 s for a duel. To achieve the result, no more than three shots are allocated to defeat the enemy. The distance for effective fire from a pistol during combat clashes rarely exceeds 10-15 m.Up to 75% of fights with the use of firearms, according to the police department of the Russian Federation, occur at distances of no more than 10 m.In such a situation, it is not so much the shooter's stance that is important, how much is his reaction. You have to shoot from any position, from your knee, lying down. Two-handed shooting is a rather rare phenomenon today and is mainly practiced during clay pigeon shooting.

The tactical shooting methodology is based on the fact that the shooter can fire from any weapon, with a change in position, on a moving or on stationary target... During training sessions, a stand for shooting a pistol is practiced, other options for the position of the body from which you have to fire. The following factors are taken into account:

  • the shooter must effectively fire from both the right and left hands;
  • use both eyes for aiming;
  • be able to simultaneously fire from two pistols;
  • control the required rate of fire, depending on the situation.

If in shooting sports the most important aspect of achieving a result is aiming, then during training in the combat use of firearms, the main attention is paid to training muscle memory. The ability to double shot with the same accuracy sometimes becomes a decisive factor in survival during a fight with an enemy.

High-speed pistol shooting technique

Contrary to popular belief that only shooting from a real weapon gives a tangible effect for the subsequent skillful handling of a pistol, experts and instructors agree on a different opinion. Only many hours, many days of training with discharged weapons and firing blank cartridges will provide the necessary skills in handling a pistol. High-speed pistol shooting consists not only in the presence of muscle memory, which ensures timely pulling of the trigger, but also in the sharpened movements of reaching the weapon and its fast reloading.

During training, the execution of commands is practiced to automatism, the tried-and-true options for shifting weapons from one hand to another are practiced. Unlike trap shooting, where the shooter reloads the weapon in a calm atmosphere, in combat conditions these manipulations are carried out in combination with other actions of the shooter. When taking out a weapon or at the moment of stopping firing for subsequent reloading, the shooter must leave the firing sector, making it difficult for the enemy to aim.

A competent instructor, before starting a fire training lesson, must show how to hold a pistol in your hands, what position your fingers should occupy. The grip, like the shooter's stance, are fundamental elements of training in shooting. Every novice shooter must determine for himself which hand will be strong and which will be weak. Accordingly, the correct body position and stance are developed.

It is important for high speed shooting to maintain a high rate of fire. In modern conditions, the rate of fire for beginners is defined as one shot per second. For a double shot at a distance of up to 7 m, 1.5 s are already given away. There is very little time for getting the pistol out of the holster and for the implementation of a double shot, no more than 2 seconds. During training sessions, you should learn important aspect- you need to shoot a pistol at a constant speed. One second - one shot.

At the same time, how to hold the weapon, instructors pay attention during classes to the rack in which the shooter should be during preparation for shooting, Correct position the shooter's body provides for an even distribution of the load on all parts of the body and allows for correct aiming. For the first sessions, when it is necessary to achieve a certain accuracy of firing, a double grip is usually used. In this way, a novice shooter can fully feel the weapon, feel its real weight and the force of recoil when firing. In practical shooting, this exercise is the main one for beginners, after which classes are already held to hone shooting skills from other positions.

During high-speed shooting, the shooter's stance is also different, the body of which should be tilted slightly forward. In this position, the weapon is better controlled, which in any case will give a recoil when firing. A competent instructor will indicate how best to hold the weapon, where to put your fingers. The incorrect position of the pistol in the hand can negatively affect the accuracy of shooting from difficult positions, when firing while moving. Pistol firing delays caused by improper stance or poor grip can cost the shooter his life. The exercises are aimed at practicing all the actions of the shooter in strict accordance with each other. During the training, the whole range of actions that the shooter is forced to perform during shooting are practiced. Simulation of various situations allows you to find the most convenient positions for shooting, reduce the aiming time.

Finally

Shooting firearms is not only a way of having fun. Weapons are always an object of potential danger to human life and health. Only compliance with the rules for handling weapons will allow you to master the use of pistols and shoot them perfectly. Disregard for rules and requirements does not bode well, especially when it comes to the combat use of a pistol, which can become not only an attack weapon, but also the last means of self-defense.

WikiHow works like a wiki, which means that many of our articles are written by multiple authors. To create this article, 26 people, some anonymous, worked to edit and improve it over time.

While the title of this article sounds rather absurd, it is quite possible to be highly accurate at long range pistol shooting. It takes patience, a little talent, dexterity, and a lot of practice. This article will show you how to improve your pistol shooting skills from a distance of 100m, 200m or more. Keep in mind (especially with handguns) that how well you do it depends on the number of shots fired and your patience during training.

Steps

Pick a good pistol. While any pistol can be better mastered, the type of weapon can seriously affect your ultimate success in the task of becoming a marksman with a pistol. Here are a few general rules, which you should pay attention to when buying a weapon. General rules apply to long range single shot accuracy. They do not include considerations of self-protection, durability and cost. None of the rules is a dogma, there are exceptions to each of them, and the gun that suits you personally is always the best choice.

    • The larger the gun, the more accurate it is.
    • Large pistols are more comfortable in the hand than small ones.
    • The longer the barrel, the higher the muzzle velocity of the bullet, which means a more gentle trajectory.
    • Light high velocity bullets are more accurate for standard pistol distances (over 50 m.)
    • Heavy bullets are more accurate when shooting at long distances (over 100m)
    • Shooting with a smaller caliber is cheaper, which means you can train more.
    • The smaller the caliber, the lower the recoil, which, in turn, allows for more frequent consecutive shots, and also makes shooting more comfortable for more people
    • Among self-loading pistols, self-cocking pistols (DAO) (AKA Quick Action) are less accurate than pistols with shock trigger single (SA) or double (DA / SA) action.
    • Shooting skills play a big role, so expensive pistols are not necessarily accurate or shoot better.
    • Your weapon is more accurate than yourself.
  1. Thus, from the above general rules, it follows that the best option would be a large pistol with a single (or double) action firing mechanism with a long barrel. Examples of such weapons are the H&K USP Elite, the 14-inch Desert Eagle, or target pistols from Hammerli and other manufacturers of high quality target pistols. These are far from cheap pistols, but they are high quality firearms that will serve you well.

While a public shooting range is a common practice site, this is not always the best location to practice long-range precision shooting. The best option would be a large piece of land, a safe place to shoot. This will allow you to set targets at different distances and become a skilled shooter at targets of any size from different distances.

Start by stretching. It sounds strange, but stretching will relax your muscles and make your arms and body more stable.

Fire a few warm-up shots (perhaps from a distance of 15 m). Find out where you (and your pistol) are going. If you find that you are unable to consistently hit a specific target area from a given distance, continue shooting very slowly and patiently until your shots reach the target.

    • You can proceed to the main practice as soon as you figure out the difference between where you aim and where you hit (ideally, the bullet should hit right on the target, but it is acceptable if it is slightly higher than it, then if you know the distance, the master can correct your aim).
    • If you're just starting out with your long-range shooting skills, it's best to start at close range and then move on. A good starting distance is around 25m. While this is much farther than most people are used to shooting, in order to be successful at long-range shooting, you must train at those distances. It is possible that at first, from this distance, you will not be able to consistently hit a target the size of a person, but over time, you will find that in 90% of cases you hit the bank.

Your standing position should be the most comfortable for you. It is often most convenient (if you are right-handed) to put your left foot forward and your right foot diagonally behind the left, at shoulder distance. Extend your right arm straight forward as if you are trying to reach a target, relax your elbow but lock it in place. With this hand, you will grip the pistol grip. Left hand bend at an angle of 120 degrees. Your right hand controls the vertical angle of the pistol, your left hand controls its horizontal position. Your left elbow should point exactly to the ground.

      • Lying position: You should train while lying on the ground. Your prone position should be like this: lie on your stomach, then turn slightly on the side you are shooting from, rest your supporting knee and elbow on the ground. You will be slightly sideways to the target, but your right hand will be level with the ground, your head resting on your right hand, looking at the targets. This will allow you to breathe freely and provide a very stable platform.
      • Kneeling Position: This position will provide you with a very stable platform for accurate shooting. Place your left foot back and squat on your heel. right leg... Your left knee and toe will be on the ground. Relax the supporting elbow on the stubborn knee. You are in the "tripod" position (support foot, toe and knee), in this position you can move quickly (practice periodically taking the position "from the knee" and coming out of it).
    • Tilt your head slightly to the right so that the scope of the pistol is in line with your right eye. You may need to move your right wrist so the scope is pointed straight ahead. To aim, move your body (while maintaining position) until the weapon is aimed at the target.

Breathe slowly, relax and try to aim, aim. For target shooting (only if you have enough time to aim) it is often best to concentrate on the front sight and aim it at the target or at a specific point between the target and the front sight. Don't focus on the target. Concentrate close to the front sight, fully focusing on creating the perfect crosshair image, where the target is completely aligned with the front sight. The target is vaguely visible outside of your weapon. If the speed of the shot is important, in 99% of cases it is better to fully concentrate on the front sight.

Over time, you will realize that your breathing and the ability to stay calm and calm are the top priorities in the process of maintaining aiming accuracy. This can only be achieved with practice. Breathe evenly before firing, then inhale deeper and exhale fully, emptying your lungs. It is at the moment of exhalation (do not exhale forcibly, but just relax) the shot is fired.

The image on the sight for traditional open sights should resemble Form III, where the front sight is ideally protected by the rear sight slot. Keep in mind that this means both horizontal and vertical placement. This ideal image must then be superimposed on the target (without obscuring it) and then fired.

To accurately hit the target, if the image on the scope is below the target, the pistol must be "zeroed" (adjusted). Then you do not have to make artificial adjustments (for example, aim to the left or higher), and a pistol aimed directly at the target will provide an accurate hit in the bull's eye of the desired target.

Different cartridges shoot differently (more or less accurately) for different types of weapons. Try different types rounds for your firearm to determine which is best for your pistol.

Novice shooters often pride themselves on their marksmanship if the majority of their shots hit the target. However, even a random shot sometimes hits the target. This demonstrates luck rather than skill. Concentrate on grouping your shots into one target size - this is the first sign of a professional sniper and demonstrates consistent shooting accuracy.

Once you have a good aim and see the perfect scope image, slowly press the trigger with the last or penultimate phalanx of your right index finger towards the back of the pistol (press straight, slowly and steadily between shots). In pistols with a double-acting percussion-trigger mechanism (UPS), you must first bring the OPS to the cocked position. (now the pistol's OPS is in single action mode). Depending on the type, the trigger resistance ranges from 900 grams to 3.5 kg. The lighter the trigger, the easier it is to be precise (although there is a certain trigger position in self-cocking pistols to reduce its drag - this can be found by holding the trigger while firing. Slowly release your finger until the trigger clicks, now you you can click on it again to shoot).

    • After firing, check where the bullet hit (high, low, right, left and other combinations). With practice, you will be able to determine the reason for your miss: inaccurate sight, your hand trembled, and / or you ran out of time or the reason was the so-called waiting for a shot.

      • If the shot hits the left of the target, for a right-handed person, this means that you are pressing hard on the entire pistol, and not just on the trigger.
      • If a shot hits to the right of the target, for a right-handed person, this means that you are either pulling the trigger too hard, or simultaneously pressing your fingers on the pistol grip.
      • A shot rarely hits above the target, but if this happens, it means that the shooter, compensating for the recoil in advance, raises the pistol even before the shot.
      • The shot hits below the target, due to the fact that the shooter either overwrites the trigger (squeezes the trigger and the pistol at the same time and pulls the trigger too quickly), or, more likely, compensates for the recoil by lowering the pistol down until the shot.
      • Pre-recoil compensation is one of the main reasons a shooter cannot shoot accurately with a pistol. The person, expecting the recoil of the pistol, shifts the wrist and points the pistol up or down, depending on the shooter. This can be easily determined by giving the person a weapon with which they are familiar. Make sure it's not charged, but don't tell the shooter about it. When he takes aim and pulls the trigger, he will automatically move the pistol.
      • There are several techniques to break this habit.
        • The simplest one is to concentrate on pulling the trigger. Aim at the target and slowly pull the trigger. Press as slowly and smoothly as possible. It can take up to 10 seconds before the shot is fired. The target is a surprise shot, which means you don't know exactly when the weapon will fire and therefore don't compensate for the recoil in advance. To solve this problem, a pistol with a smooth trigger and a sharp shot is most suitable, then when the trigger is pulled, it is less likely to feel when the weapon will fire.
        • The second technique is essentially the same, with the difference that it eliminates pre-recoil compensation entirely. Aim at the target and hold the front sight as accurately as possible. Have your friend put their finger on the trigger (either directly or on your finger on the trigger) and press it for you. Make sure the person actually pulling the trigger is very slow and keeps their hand (mostly thumb) away from the back of the pistol where the bolt slider might pinch it. This is a very inconvenient method, but it confirms that the trigger is one of the most important elements shooting from weapons.
        • Many, even experienced shooters, flinch while shooting without noticing it. Pre-recoil compensation can be manifested by light swaying, which is imperceptible against the background of the actual recoil of the pistol and, therefore, remains invisible to the shooter or observers. You can easily check this using the snap cap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_cap. As stated in the link, “a snap cap is a device that looks like a standard firearm, but does not contain a charge or bullet and is used to fire a blank shot. A snap cap usually contains a charge replacement spring that absorbs power from the striker and allows the weapon to be tested safely without damaging its components.
        • Ask a friend to load the pistol for you, but replacing one of the cartridges with a snap cap of the same caliber, placed at random in the magazine (for the pistol) or cylinder (for the revolver). After using all the cartridges, you will eventually find the snap cap, but you won't be aware of it until you pull the trigger. At this point, it will become obvious to you that if the image on the sight is clear, then you have learned how to control the recoil of the weapon. If the weapon bounced in your hand, as if you were firing a live round, you need to continue training. This is a simple, inexpensive test and the results may surprise you.
    • Practice at this distance until you can consistently hit a target about 50 cm in diameter. Move the target back about 10 meters. Run the cycle again. Maintain constant breathing. If your scope is shifted, get a new one to correct or give an old one for debugging. The open sight is my favorite. But some people prefer other types of scopes. Customizable scopes also make it easy to change your weapon's zero level at any time.

      • After you have moved the target further once or twice, you will eventually find that you are able to consistently hit a 50 cm target from more and further distances.
      • At a certain point, return to the nearest target and please yourself with the ease with which you manage to get into certain areas of the target. This way, you will gain more self-confidence as you can see a noticeable improvement.
    • If at a distance of 40-50 meters (ideal) your shots hit the target, then at a distance of 60-70 meters you will have to compensate for the trajectory of the bullet by aiming higher. The difference may be only a few centimeters, but it takes some getting used to.

      • At a distance of 100 m, there is a significant change in bullet trajectory (about 25-35 cm for a standard 45 caliber), and wind also begins to influence. In a standing position, you may find yourself capable of shooting accurately from a distance of more than 100m. Force yourself to explore your limits. That being said, in a kneeling position with additional support, you will find that you can consistently hit targets up to 200 meters away.
        • At a distance of more than 200 meters, the ballistic properties of a conventional pistol are questionable. Over longer ranges, heavier bullets retain a greater percentage of their energy due to aerodynamic coefficients.
      • Practice, practice and more practice. Despite the fact that knowledge is power, you must be able to apply what you know.
      • Safety first! Before carrying or transporting a weapon, make sure it is not loaded and the magazine is empty.
      • Another reason a pistol can shoot inaccurately is a mismatch between the bullet and barrel. While this matters less for a pistol than for a rifle, it is worth trying bullets of different brands and types. But once you've found a cartridge that shoots well, don't change it anymore, and with one type of ammo always have a good supply of them.
      • Also clean the inside of the barrel regularly (use oil and occasionally thinner). After a few hundred shots, you will find that the barrel is very dirty, even if not noticeable.
      • As stated above, your weapon is probably more accurate than yourself (most full-size pistols in most calibers). Therefore, if you miss the mark, chances are good that it is your fault. Exercise more to make sure you don't compensate ahead of time and flinch too much.
      • Be sure to clean your weapon after use. Moisture and dirt can corrode and damage your gun if used in this condition.
      • Do not drink alcohol or caffeine before going to the shooting. While alcohol will decrease your ability to act and make good decisions, caffeine will also decrease your ability to control motor functions (for example, if your blood contains caffeine, you may flinch too much or even tremble).
      • Shaking hands is a common problem that can come and go and is often caused by caffeine, stress, nervousness, or anxiety. If the shaking in your hands persists, sit down for a while, drink some water, and think about something unrelated to the weapon (don't think about your hands either!). After a while, try picking up the gun again.
      • Safety lock the pistol if you are not going to fire right now (if the weapon has a safety lock).

      Warnings

      • Firearms are dangerous. Use a pistol or other handgun only if you are an experienced shooter, or there is a very experienced shooter near you who directly controls you.
      • You need to know what a line of fire is. Bullets can travel for miles or ricochet in unexpected directions.
      • A pistol can cause significant injury and even death. Always point the pistol in a safe direction and never point it at something you are not going to shoot at.
      • All firearms must be used in a safe and authorized location. Learn and follow state and local laws on the use and transport of firearms. Laws change dramatically in different countries, and sometimes cities and states.

      What do you need

      • Pistol (any caliber, size, subject to the basic rules stated above).
      • Ammunition (according to the caliber of your pistol). Ammunition should be purchased from a safe place (preferably from the manufacturer). Self-loaded or reloaded cartridges can damage your weapon and be dangerous.
      • Special clothing if you intend to shoot outdoors. Dress warmly enough for the weather. Pants are always recommended. If you are in an area where there may be other people with weapons (for example, hunting), it is recommended to wear a bright orange vest or T-shirt.
      • Protection for vision and hearing is essential. The hot brass ejected from semi-automatic weapons can damage the eyes, and loud noises can damage hearing very quickly.
