This World Cup, the final season in this sport, will take place from April 20th to 23rd. It is worth noting that the tradition of holding the team World Championships of figure skaters about two decades ago originated in Japan. Next, we will talk about the 2017 World Cup calendar, as well as the composition of the participants in the Russian national team.

Figure Skating World Team Championship 2017: Schedule

The composition of the Russian national figure skating team for the team World Cup 2017

In conclusion, about the composition of the participants of the boring Russia on this team world championship... Good news for Russian figure skating fans: Evgenia Medvedeva is taking part in the world championship. Immediately, we note that the captain of the Russian national team will be Ekaterina Bobrova, who, together with Dmitry Solovyov, represents our country in ice dancing.

In the male single skating Maxim Kovtun and Mikhail Kolyada will perform, and in female category- Evgenia Medvedeva and Elena Radionova. Finally, Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov entered the sports pair competition.

The main start of the season in figure skating - the world championship - took place in Helsinki at the end of March, but the competitive program did not exhaust itself there. It is crowned by the World Team Championship - a rather young species, dating back to 2009.

These competitions are held on odd-numbered years, in contrast to the traditional planetary championship. The exception was 2011, when it was decided to postpone the tournament to next year due to the fact that Japan, the constant mistress of the championship, was hit by a strong earthquake, which caused a tsunami. Current championship world - the fifth in history, and the best indicators are the Americans, who won three gold and one silver. Russian team boasts only the vice-championship in 2015.

The tournament is a competition of six national teams with the most best rating in the system of the International Skating Union (ISU). Currently such countries are Canada, Russia, USA, Japan, China and France. The program of the competition itself includes the types traditional for figure skaters - short and free programs, but in women's and men's single skating, the country is represented by two athletes each, and in pairs and sports dances - by one duet. The scoring system at the World Championship is simple: in singles the winner gets 12 points, and the skater who took the last place is content with one point; in doubles disciplines the difference lies in the fact that the duo, which showed the last, sixth result, brings their team seven points.

Who plays for the Russian national team

The Russian national team arrived in Tokyo with almost optimal composition. Dance Sport represents the best duet of the country at the moment - Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov. IN this season at the European Championships they became third, in the Grand Prix final - fourth, and at the planetary championship - fifth. Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov - winners of the Grand Prix finals, European championships and bronze medalists of the World Championship in the current season - compete in pairs.

In men's single skating, the honor of Russia is defended by an uncontested bunch - Mikhail Kolyada and Maxim Kovtun. The last one had an unpleasant episode before the start of the competition. Vice-champion of Europe - 2017 was late for the plane to Tokyo, leaving the Russian national team for the team competition. This happened due to the fact that his taxi on the way to the airport got into an accident. Kovtun had to buy a ticket worth 50 thousand rubles at his own expense.

The main hope of the Russian national team is Evgenia Medvedev. The undisputed leader of the world women's figure skating, who won all possible titles this year, arrived in the capital of Japan for another gold. Anna Pogorilaya was supposed to accompany her, but the Russian Figure Skating Federation decided to “give the athlete time and the opportunity to get away from psychological trauma (she took 13th place at the World Championship. - RT) and calmly prepare for the next season. " As a result, the choice was made in favor of Elena Radionova, who won the Universiade in Almaty this season.

Dance Sport

In the first of three days tournaments were planned exclusively short rentals... The competition program was opened with a competition of sports dancers. Bobrova and Solovyov showed the third result with a total of 68.94 points. Compared to other major starts of the season, they have demonstrated worst result: in the Grand Prix finals for a short dance, the couple received 74.04 points, at the continental championship - 76.18 points, and at the world championship - 73.54 points.

Nevertheless, Bobrova and Solovyov put 10 points in the piggy bank of the Russian national team, and the Americans broke into the leaders thanks to Madison Chock and Evan Bates (79.06). In Helsinki, they also beat the Russians in the first event of the program, gaining 76.25, but after a free dance they ended up behind Ekaterina and Dmitry. Canadians Caitlin Weaver and Andrew Poget wedged in between the Americans and the Russians, who were awarded 76.73 points by the judges.

Bobrova and Solovyov could easily have missed the top three, but it was not the vice-world champions Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron who played for France, but Marie-Jade Lorjo and Romain Le Gac, who in Finland did not even qualify to participate in the free dance.

Women

The crown view for Russia, of course, passed under the sign of the superiority of Evgenia Medvedeva. Her rental from the judges did not cause any complaints, and as a reward, the referees were generous with high points, which allowed the Russian woman to break her own world record in the short program, set in the Grand Prix finals in Marseille (79.21). Now new world achievement is 80.85 points.

Radionova, who took second place with a personal best, did not disappoint either. Elena received 72.21 points for her short program, exceeding her achievement shown at the Grand Prix stage in Moscow in November last year by 0.28 points.

The girls earned 23 points - the maximum possible set, which allowed the Russian team to take the lead. The total was 33 points, while the closest pursuers from Japan had 26.

Men

Representatives of the Land of the Rising Sun hoped to make up for lost time in men's single skating, because the hosts of the tournament represent reigning champion and the vice-champion of the world - Yuzuru Hanyu and Soma Uno. If the latter successfully coped with the task and brought his team 12 points, then Hanyu performed unsuccessfully, becoming only seventh. As a result, the Japanese scored 18 points in total.

The Russians had a chance to remain the leaders at the end of the first competitive day, but Maxim Kovtun let his partners down and scored a modest 64.62 points. He took the penultimate place. Apparently, the taxi incident did not go unnoticed, although Kovtun is famous for the fact that he performs one of the two programs unevenly. This happened to him at the Russian championship, but at major international starts of the season he was going and showed good numbers. For comparison: at the European championship, he scored 94.53 points for the short program, and at the world championship - 89.38.

He did not allow his rivals to break away in overall standings Mikhail Kolyada. The judges rated his rental at 95.37 points, which became not only a personal, but also a national record. The previous achievement belonged to Kovtun - 94.53. Kolyada eventually became the fourth, letting ahead not only Hanyu, but also the American Nathan Chen and the Chinese Jing Boyan. Mikhail brought Russia 9 points, and the total amount was 44, like the Japanese. Americans breathe in the back of the leaders' duet with 43 points.

Three events will also take place on Friday - sports couples will enter the fight, and dancers and men will present free programs. The World Championship will end on Saturday with free skating for couples and girls.

From April 20 to 23, the capital of Japan will host the World Team Championship, which is held every two years (certainly in Japan) and crowns the season of skaters. These competitions also have another name that emphasizes their commercial nature - World Team Trophy. AiF.ru told about the favorites of the tournament and where to watch the competition press attaché of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Olga Ermolina.

- From a purely professional point of view, is the World Team Trophy a sport or is it a show?

- In our world, the attitude towards this tournament is twofold. On the one hand, it is held under the auspices of ISU (International Skating Union. - AiF.ru), on the other hand, it is organized by the Japanese Figure Skating Federation under the patronage of the Asahi TV company, positioning the competition as commercial.

Figure skating- basically individual look sports, we have only one team tournament - the Olympics. But the World Team Trophy regulations with the regulations Olympic Games does not match: the Japanese, who have a very well developed single skating, but few couples and dance duets made it for themselves and for themselves. They found a very precise balance between sport and show. This is understandable: it is enough to visit this country at least once to understand what figure skating means for the Japanese.

- What does it mean to them?

- In a nutshell, you can't say, but the popularity of the sport is simply incredible. Any competition that takes place in Japan is the top. The halls are packed, and the audience in Japan is involved, understanding and empathic. Before the beginning of each performance, there is such silence that you can hear the pounding of hearts. People spend the night under the doors of hotels, dreaming at least to look at the idols up close ...

- It's nice to ride in such a positive way.

- Sure. Therefore, all athletes travel to Japan with great pleasure - not for money, but for the atmosphere.

- Forecasts are a thankless task, but let's try it anyway. Who is the 2017 favorite?

Team competition have one feature: the composition must be balanced, because in the end it is not the athlete who wins, but the team. It is important that no one fails. From this point of view, as far as can be judged before the start, the Canadians look very decent.

- But we have Evgeny Medvedev.

- Zhenya is the leader of two last seasons... She not only keeps her level, but also constantly increases it: she fights with herself - fights and wins herself. We all very much hope that she will perform no worse than at the World Championships in Helsinki.

- Why such caution in assessments?

- End of the season. Keeping in peak shape is very difficult task... In general, our line-up is very interesting. If the guys show what they can and should, if they skate at their level, we will, of course, apply for good places.

- What place is considered good for the Russian national team?

- In 2015 we became the silver medalists of the World Team Championship for the first time, having lost one point to the Americans, but this is just for information. Making forecasts and planning places is definitely not my function, I will not take such courage upon myself. The difficulty is that the sport is an individual one, and the test is a team one. Of course, everyone is tuned in to the maximum, but, you know, talking about "winning at any cost" always creates unnecessary pressure. Therefore, you just need to roll back to your strength - and everything will be fine.

- Why is the World Team Trophy not shown on Russian television?

- Again, because this is a commercial tournament. Rights stand big money... But you can watch it, for example, on the ISU website. There are some restrictions by country, but for real fans of figure skating is this really a barrier?

According to the skater, the taxi driver who got into an accident on the way to the airport is to blame for being late.

However, the story ended quite well: Kovtun bought a ticket at his own expense and soon reunited with the team.
