The World Junior Figure Skating Championships started on Wednesday in Sofia. The Russians claim awards in all forms, and among the tournament favorites in the women's single skating- students Eteri Tutberidze, one of which performs elements currently unattainable for any of the figure skaters of the planet, including for Olympic champion Alina Zagitova.

When reigning world junior champion Zagitova fought Evgenia Medvedeva in the Olympic Gangneung, the 13-year-old winner of the Junior Grand Prix Final Alexandra Trusova in the final of the Cup of Russia in Veliky Novgorod, for the first time in the history of domestic women's figure skating, she performed cleanly quadruple jump- quadruple salchow, which she stubbornly entered every official competition, starting from the first stage of the Junior Grand Prix in Brisbane.

“I hope that during the season she will do it at competitions in a clean performance,” Daniil Gleikhengauz, the coach-choreographer of the Tutberidze group, said back in the fall.

“I want to do something first in the world,” Trusova herself told RIA Novosti in December, when she won the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, but again did not leave the quadruple salchow. “Therefore, I teach both the triple axel and the quadruple sheepskin coat. And that’s all the remaining quadruples.

At the moment, apart from Trusova's quadruple jump, none of the figure skaters on the planet performs at official starts.

In Sofia, Trusova started as the favorite of the tournament, and in the free program she must attempt two quadruple jumps - salchow and sheepskin coat. She performed a four-turn sheepskin coat for the first time at a training session in mid-December, at competitions she only encroached on this element once - in the same final of the Cup of the country.

She entered it 11 seconds after a superbly performed salchow, her skate slipped on landing, and only an excellent grouping allowed the athlete not to hit her face on the ice. The element, to Alexandra's credit, was still counted, despite the total "minus 3".

She skated the rest of the program in a hurry and not as confidently as usual. And in the second half, Trusova has a cascade of triple lutz - a triple rittberger, which now plays almost a decisive role in Zagitova's "adult" successes. At the Olympics in South Korea this cascade was the most difficult element for the skaters, at the junior world championship in Bulgaria it will become only the third - after Trusova's two quads.

One of Trusova's two main rivals in Sofia will be another student of Tutberidze - 14-year-old Alena Kostornaya, who lost to Alexandra in the December Grand Prix Final in Japan, and who admits that "second place is as common as any other place, except for the main one."

“The first is the feeling that you are the best. You can only say “you won” in one case. And when you are second, it means that you did not work somewhere, because someone did better than you,” she said. Kostornaya in a December interview with RIA Novosti after she won bronze in the "adult" championship of Russia. The first adult tournament in his career.

Kostornaya does not yet have super-complex cascades, but she performs technically rich programs with mature grace beyond her years. In the future, the skater is predicted to have a significant increase in the component score. During Olympic Games Kostornaya won the Russian Cup final in the adult segment, while Trusova competed in the category of candidates for master of sports, gaining 216.70 points.

But a little before that, at the end of January, Kostornaya lost to Trusova at the junior national championship in Saransk (211.51 versus 212.09 points). Then Kostornaya, outwardly radiating steely confidence, did not succeed in the triple lutz in the short program, and Trusova made a mistake only once - on the quadruple salchow.

The third representative of Russia 17-year-old Stanislav Konstantinov also claims the awards of the Sofia championship. At the national championship in December, a student of Valentina Chebotareva, perhaps, finally, in the eyes of experts, moved from juniors to adults, becoming third in the free program after Zagitova and Maria Sotskova.

Konstantinov develops without interruptions. “I never force things in relation to students at all. I don’t give a big load. Therefore, at the age of 13-14, they are simply not able to ride the way, say, the girls Eteri Tutberidze ride, they need time,” Chebotareva said in an interview with RIA Novosti , denoting his philosophy as follows: " Big sport shouldn't start too early."

The competition for the Russians will mainly be created by the Japanese Rika Kihira, who is capable of two triple axels in one program, as well as her compatriot Mako Yamashita.

Trusova for her performance on Friday received 72.03 points, the second place was taken by another representative of Russia Alena Kostornaya (71.63). Japanese Mako Yamashita (66.79) rounded out the top three. Another Russian figure skater Stanislava Konstantinova (62.63) became the sixth.

The favorite of the men's single skating is the American Alexei Krasnozhon, who won the last Final of the Junior Grand Prix. The skater performs in an arbitrary quadruple loop, but does it dirty.

The hopes of the Russians are connected with the figure skater Tutberidze Alexey Erokhov, who is able to perform three quads in a free program. Erokhov failed the Nagoya Grand Prix Final, becoming the fifth, but won the junior national championship in Saransk, making a pure cascade of quadruple and triple sheepskin coats. An experienced junior will perform in the Bulgarian capital Roman Savosin and debutant Artur Danielyan, who outperformed the strong Makar Ignatov and Vladimir Samoilov at the national championship, who scored well in the current season at international starts.

Alexey Erokhov takes second place after the short program in the men's singles at the World Junior Championships in Sofia.

Erokhov received 76.54 points for his performance. American figure skater Alexei Krasnozhon is leading (80.28). Japanese Mitsuki Sumoto closes the top three (72.94).

Two other Russians Artur Danielyan (69.15) and Roman Savosin (65.36) are in 8th and 12th positions.

V pair skating Russian couples won the entire podium. Interestingly, the silver medalists of the Nagoya Grand Prix final, Russians Apollinaria Panfilova and Dmitry Rylov, could not qualify for the World Championship, as they were only seventh at the national junior championship.

But the bronze holders of Nagoya and reigning champions Russia among juniors Daria Pavlyuchenko and Denis Khodykin in line. They argued for gold, first of all, with an experienced Anastasia Mishina paired with Alexander Gallyamov.

Looked like dark horses Polina Kostyukovich and Dmitry Yalin, who marked the beginning of the season with the only fairly clean quadruple twist in junior skating at the stage in Zagreb, where they took first place, but failed in the free program at the tournament in Gdansk, became only sixth and did not get into the Junior Grand Prix Final. The bronze of the championship of Russia breathed new strength into the guys of the famous group of Velikovs.

As a result, Daria Pavlyuchenko and Denis Khodykin won gold. According to the results of the short and free programs, they received 180.53 points. The second place was taken by Polina Kostyukovich and Dmitry Yalin (167.99), Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Galyamov (167.24) rounded out the top three.

Gold was won by Sergey Dobroskokov's students Daria Pavlyuchenko/Denis Khodykin, silver and bronze were won by the pairs of the group of Nikolai and Lyudmila Velikov and their grandson Vasily Velikov - Polina Kostyukovich/Dmitry Yalin and Anastasia Mishina/Alexander Gallyamov, respectively.

"Our couples performed very well, I'm happy. Although at the beginning of the season there were no signs of this. For nine years there was no completely Russian podium at the junior world championships. The first step has been taken," Velikova said by phone.

"All three pairs had chances for gold, it was important to skate the free program with fewer mistakes. At the adult level, none of the championship medalists is ready to perform yet, but everyone has the prospect of taking place. All three pairs are very good and with a future," added specialist.

Daria Pavlyuchenko, performing in a duet with Denis Khodykin, is working on complicating the jump part in the Eteri Tutberidze group, where the 2018 Olympic champion Alina Zagitova and Pyeongchang silver medalist Evgenia Medvedeva are training, the pair's coach Sergei Dobroskokov told RIA Novosti.

"Over the summer, we intend to learn the quadruple twist - for this we will do acrobatics, complicate the jumps - do a parallel triple flip or lutz, plus a 3-3 combination of sheepskin coats, and possibly a 3-3-2, as well as let's complicate the support, - Dobroskokov said by phone. - If we can master it in the spring-summer, then it makes sense to go to a higher level. "

“In order to improve the jumping part, Dasha goes to trainings with Eteri Tutberidze, and in this group they help her a lot,” the specialist continued. “And Dasha herself is happy to consult with Eteri. Denis has no problems jumping, as he was a good single skater. The question is now in Dasha, she needs to be pretty short time learn new jumps. Salchow and sheepskin coat in pair skating have all been studied, I think that the time has come for the loop, lutz, flip and 3-3 combination.

According to Dobroskokov, "quadruple throws will continue to be practiced in pair skating, but coaches will approach them pointwise." “We don’t think about it yet, but the complication of other elements is necessary,” the coach noted. “There is no other choice, since it’s not interesting to be extras. , as a rule, do not persist for a long time at the adult level.

The winners of the Grand Prix Final and the junior championship of the country came for the gold of dancing on ice Anastasia Skoptsova and Kirill Aleshin. Earlier, the skaters noted that the goal of performing at the Junior World Championships is to win. “At every start, any athlete comes to win, regardless of previous victories or defeats. Of course, we will go to the World Junior Championships with the same goal. We will try to adequately represent our country,” Alyoshin said.

Russia in Bulgaria was also represented by creative duets Sofia Shevchenko/Igor Eremenko and Arina Ushakova/Maxim Nekrasov. The Americans Christina Carreira/Anthony Ponomarenko also fought for a place in the sun.

The logo of the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships was created on the basis of the famous "da Vinci knots" - the most complex ornament that the outstanding creator often used in his works. The most famous ornament adorns the ceiling of the Delle Asse hall in Milan's Sforza castle. Scientists have repeatedly compared the ornament with esotericism, and it has also been suggested that the double helix, symbolizing infinity and victory, can be a symbol of power. The mysterious curls of knots are associated with the traces left by the skaters on the ice during the top, they are also similar to the invisible graceful traces of the movements of the hands of the athletes performing the dance on the ice. The red lines of the logo symbolize the passion and will of the skaters on the way to victory, the curves of the lines are a symbol of blue ice.
