Awards

  • Order of Honor - For great contribution to development physical culture and sports, high sports achivments at the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad in 2004 in Athens
  • Order of Friendship - For a great contribution to the development of physical culture and sports and high sporting achievements at the Games of the XXVII Olympiad in 2000 in Sydney

"If something happens to her, then the team will be lucky ...". So on October 16, 2004, our correspondent Vladislav Blagoobraz began an article about Natalia Lavrova under the heading "Unknown Star".

It just so happens that the age of the "artist" gymnast is short-lived. In your twenties and you're off the carpet, veteran. Therefore, participation in two or more Olympiads is akin to a feat.

In 2004, Natalya Lavrova became the world's first two-time Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics.

The pupil of the Penza school, whose portrait adorns the Board of Honor on the central street of the city, received the title of "goldfish" from the journalists - after Lavrova was included in the main team, our team never lost in group exercises. Moreover, the “talismanism” of our heroine manifested itself in a very peculiar way. It can be said that she sacrificed herself for overall success. The coach of the national team Tatiana Vasilyeva tells:

- Before the 1999 World Championships, at one of the training sessions, one of the girls threw a club, and it hit Natasha in the nose. Thank God there was no turning point. We were very worried, but in Japan we performed great and became world champions. Since then, paradoxically, if something happened to Lavrova, then we won. In Sydney, Natasha performed with a fractured toe, at the World Championships in New Orleans before the final, she twisted her leg, and finally, before the Athens Games, she got a ribbon in her eye. We are all already laughing: "This is for victory!" Natasha herself had her own talisman:

- When I was little, my mother gave me a teddy bear, and since then he is with me at all competitions. I believe that he helps me. In rhythmic gymnastics, many have mascots - soft toys. Fans give us them instead of flowers, and very often we bring a whole bag of "animals" from a tournament.

At the end of 2004, having fulfilled her historic mission, Natalya said goodbye to the great sport. And she became the coach of the Russian national team. April 23 and this career was interrupted - in a terrible car accident in the Penza region ...

The tragedy occurred on April 23 at 10 am (Moscow time) on the Penza-Shemysheika highway, along which Lavrova and her sister were traveling. Their VAZ-2114 collided with a Mazda, whose driver was not seriously injured.

The car in which the gymnast was traveling with two other passengers collided with a bus. At that time she was 33 years old.

On October 20, 2009, the bronze medalist of the all-around world championship, Yuri Ryazanov, was killed. Two-time Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Natalya Lavrova died on Friday, April 23, in a car accident near Penza. Her younger sister Olga was driving. She didn't survive either.

The tragic news flew around Penza in a matter of hours. Natalya Lavrova is a well-known person in our city - although she worked in the capital in recent years, she still remained her own in her homeland.

Correspondents of "Reporter" drove to the scene of the accident on the third kilometer of the Penza-Shemysheika highway. The restrictive tapes have already been removed here, and the evacuators have taken away the burnt cars. There were still deformed parts of the car on the side of the road, but soon they will be gone.

Not far from the accident site is the village of Zasechnoye - only one and a half kilometers away. We went there.

Zasechnoye

The locals were the first to see what happened on the track.

My windows just overlook that road, - a resident of the village told the Reporter correspondents, pensioner Zinaida Andreeva... - Around nine, I noticed dense black smoke from the side of the road.

I went from work on a minibus, - adds a local middle-aged woman who introduced herself Innoy... - All passengers saw that there was an accident. When we got closer, we saw two girls in burnt clothes at the side of the road.

My husband and I were returning home from Condole, just along this road, - shared director of the local house of culture Lidia Bondarenko... - We were still surprised - we were going there, everything was clean, and here there are a lot of firefighters and police cars. When we drove closer, we saw a burned-out car standing in a field, and a foreign car on the side of the road. Her entire front part was crumpled, apparently, swipe accepted. I didn’t look in that direction anymore, and my husband later said that the bodies of two girls were lying on the ground. When I arrived in Zasechnoye, I learned from my fellow villagers: it turns out that two Lavrov sisters had died. It was said that when the car caught fire, oncoming cars stopped. To extinguish the flames, drivers pulled their seat covers off their seats and pulled out fire extinguishers. And so they managed to get the girls out of the car before it exploded. The whole village is buzzing with us, there is only talk about that. We are all shocked. Such grief, especially for parents!

Signal at half past nine

At about half past nine, an emergency signal was received at the duty unit, - explained Vitaly IVANOV, Senior State Traffic Inspector of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for the Penza Region.- There were two girls in the car. They were moving towards the city from the Shemysheika side. According to the preliminary version, the car turned into the oncoming lane. Then a Mazda crashed into it. From a strong blow, both the driver and the passenger were killed on the spot. The model fourteen in which they were traveling caught fire. But the bodies were pulled out before the explosion. The driver of the foreign car was saved from death by a deployed airbag. With injuries he was sent to the emergency city hospital.

Correspondents of "Reporter" visited on Friday, April 23, in the city hospital No. 1, it was she who was on duty that day. By that time, the parents of the 22-year-old Mazda driver, who was injured in the road accident, Denis Mityaykin, had already left the hospital. They were on duty in the emergency room all those hours while the doctors fought for the life and health of their son.

The young man was operated on, - explained surgeon of the surgical department of the city hospital No. 1 Vladimir GRIDNEV... - After the operation, he was in serious condition in the intensive care unit.

Denis is indirectly related to Zasechny: his father is engaged in woodworking in this village.

"Difficult" place

I get goosebumps as I start talking about this topic. It's a pity, such young girls. How can parents endure this, - was upset in a conversation with reporters Olga Udavkina, a pensioner from Zasechnoye.- I learned about the tragedy in the morning when I was going to the store. The supplier who brings the goods to our stall said that the road was closed due to terrible accident... Yes, we have had accidents in this place before. This section of the road is "bad". Something similar happened two years ago. Then a young guy died. His car was also driven into the oncoming lane, it rolled over several times and caught fire in the field.

The place where the accident was, in general, some kind of bewitched, - continues the "semi-mystical" theme Lydia Bondarenko, Director of the Zasechensky House of Culture... - They say that a very long time ago, when Penza had not yet been built, there was a cemetery here. And to this day, on God's Mountain, where the Lavrovs now live, local residents sometimes find bones when they dig up their plots. Particularly superstitious of my fellow villagers believe that the ashes of ancestors disturb the road, so misfortunes happen. According to local beliefs, when driving through a problem area, each time you have to throw grains of granulated sugar on the road - in my opinion, this is something from the ancient pagan rites, but people believe ...

Close

The father of the dead girls Alexander Nikolaevich Lavrov- a well-known and respected person in the city. For a long time he worked as a surgeon at the Ternovsk central regional hospital. Then he headed it. Several years later, he took the position of chief physician of the regional hospital. N.N. Burdenko. Now he is working as the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development of the Penza Region.

Alexander Nikolaevich is a very good surgeon. I know about this firsthand, he treated my husband, - clarified Lyudmila Filinkova, artistic director of the cultural center of the village of Zasechnoye.- We all know the Lavrov family, not so long ago they built a house nearby, on God's mountain, and recently they lived mainly there. We took their tragedy as a personal grief, we grieve with them.

This Friday, April 23rd, I came to my daughter Alena, she lives on the street next to the Lavrovs, - she said Lydia Bondarenko- From the bedroom window I saw cars approaching their gates one after another.

In the very first hours after the tragedy, relatives and friends began to come to the Lavrovs' country house. Alexander Nikolaevich himself was no longer at home - he left to organize the funeral. In the courtyard near the porch were two men - the husband of the deceased Olga Stanislav and his father. The men stood depressed. Stanislav was already in a formal suit, but still in his home slates. There was clearly no time for conversations, Stanislav clarified that "the funeral will take place on Sunday at the new-western cemetery" ...

gold fish

Natasha Lavrova started going in for sports from an early age. A flexible, slender baby was brought to the Penza gymnastics school by her mother, Natalya Anatolyevna. Today, the main place of employment for young graces is the Burtasy Sports Palace, and then, almost twenty years ago, all children were engaged in a gymnasium on Kirov Street.

This hall greeted the Reporter correspondents with silence: gymnastics classes were canceled that day.

Yes, it was from this hall that Natasha Lavrova went to her first Olympiad, - she told us Valentina Tugusheva, employee of the gymnastics complex.- I remember her well. I took my eldest granddaughter here to classes. She studied in the younger group, and Natasha already in the older one. Affectionate, kind, sympathetic - Natasha helped the younger ones, showed them how to do the elements correctly.

The appearance of the hall has not changed much since the time when the Olympic champion studied here. Big gym equipped with uneven bars, rings, crossbar, mats, trampolines and today becomes the arena of daily training. On the second floor, there are two mirrored choreographic halls, where girls exercise their flexibility.

We met with the Penza coach Natalya Tatyana Alekseevna Vasilyeva on Saturday, April 24th. Despite her grief, she was at her workplace in the Burtasy Sports Palace: she had to judge the competition. However, due to mourning, the competition was canceled.

Tatyana Alekseevna and Natalya were close for many years - it was Vasilyeva who led Lavrov to the gold Olympic podium. They have been together in different situations, the coach remembers different little things and details that are not important

by and large, but life usually consists of such details, and who knows their true value? ..

From all competitions Natasha's father Alexander Nikolaevich met us, - Tatyana Alekseevna recalls, - he also went in for sports in the past, was a boxer, he was very proud of the sports successes of his eldest daughter. In his old Zhiguli he took us straight from the airport in Moscow. And all together we went to Penza. It was a bit crowded because we usually had a lot of luggage. But we were happy that we all returned home together. I especially remember the return from the Olympics. That time, Natalya's father came to pick us up in the Gazelle. At the entrance to Penza we were already met. Festive tables were laid, because we were returning victorious. And when our entire small delegation got out of the car, the officers shouted three times "Hurray!" And then already in a column with "flashing lights" we drove up to the gymnastics school on Kirov Street, where we were also greeted with thunderous applause.

Natasha has always been a courageous girl, she never became limp and did not pretend if things were difficult. I remember when we arrived at the Sydney Olympics, she complained of severe pain in her big toe. As it turned out later, he was broken. Despite the pain, Natasha just shrugged it off, they say, I can, and brilliantly performed the number. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, Natalya Lavrova won her first gold. At that time she was only sixteen years old.

Before the second Olympic Games in Athens, Lavrova underwent major meniscus surgery. In general, after such injuries, people leave big sport... But less than two weeks after the operation, Lavrova reappeared in the gym. All the movements were extremely difficult for her, she did the elements only lying down. But a month later she was already in the team and went to the next training camp. We know the results of the Athens Olympics - gold again.

Lavrova was the leader Russian team in rhythmic gymnastics. She came to the national team as the youngest of the girls, but despite the age difference, her teammates respected her and obeyed. She instilled confidence in victory. For all the time our compatriot was in the national team, the girls never lost. They called their Natasha - "goldfish".

After a triumphant victory at the Olympic Games, Natalya Alexandrovna decided to try herself in a new capacity. Irina Viner, head of the Russian Gymnastics Federation, invited Lavrova to become a senior coach of the Dynamo sports society.

At 25, she was the only girl to become a two-time Olympic champion, '' explained Valery STARKIN, President of the Penza Region Gymnastics Federation... - Her last position was the head coach of Dynamo. The other day she was supposed to become the head coach of Moscow.

She was a good coach, for a year she worked with Dasha Kolobova, who this year won five gold medals at the International Cup in Cairo. - continues his story Tatiana Vasilieva,- in a short time, she pulled her up a lot and prepared her for serious competitions.

On April 23-26, the rhythmic gymnastics competition among juniors was held in Penza. The grand opening of the competition was scheduled for April 23 at ten in the morning. Natasha how Main coach really wanted to be in time for the opening. Together with her sister Olya, she left her parents' country house in the morning. However, they did not manage to get to the place ...

For the coach and athletes, this news was a shock, - said Olga Stebeneva, the very first coach of Lavrova even for the younger group, - We canceled the grand opening, but decided to start the competition. We asked all the participants to dedicate their performances to the memory of Natalia Lavrova.

Sister

Unlike her older sister, Olga Lavrova was far from big sports. For a long time, the family lived in the area of the greenhouse complex, and both girls went to the 75th secondary school. Olya Lavrova entered the first grade in 1993. She was a diligent student, grabbing everything on the fly. Most of all she loved the humanities. About who she would be after school, without thinking, she answered - a doctor. Her peers were drawn to her, she had no shortage of friends. In class, she was always the ringleader and leader.

Olya was sitting on the first desk of the first row, - she recalls former classmate Svetlana Kazakova.- All together we have always solved problems in physics. Olya did the first action of the problem, Irina did the second, Natasha did the third. And so the physics test was written together.

I was the homeroom teacher of Olya Lavrova, - said Vera Klopyzhnikova, computer science teacher at school # 75- I know her literally from the nursery. My son went to kindergarten with her. A bright, cheerful girl, she loved to help others. In high school, the family moved to Ternovka, but Olya did not want to change school. Therefore, every day her parents took her to classes at our school.

In 2003 she entered the medical faculty of the Polytechnic University. The girl's future husband, Stas, also studied at the same university. As friends say, young people met for a long time. And the year before last they got married.

Very family, affectionate girl, loved her parents and husband, - says friend Irina.

According to Olga's close friends, the girl was preparing to become a mother, and perhaps there were not two, but three victims in the car accident ...

Parting

As soon as the terrible news of the death of the Lavrov sisters flew around Russia, it flew to Penza, canceling an important trip. Irina Viner... Just a few hours. In order to say goodbye to Natasha. Irina Vyacheslavovna did not wait for the day of the funeral, and, having arrived at the Lavrovs' house, said goodbye to her alone.

On April 25, Natalya Lavrova again gathered a full audience in Burtasy. But the inhabitants of Penza did not come to watch her graceful performance, but to see her last journey. At the entrance there were portraits of girls, and telegrams with condolences to their loved ones lay on the table. Among other things, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sent a telegram to support the relatives. The grief-stricken parents did not even raise their eyes to the stream of people who had come to say goodbye to their daughters. Natalya Anatolyevna, the mother of the sisters, stroked Natasha's face all the time and straightened her veil. The father tried to maintain composure, but the nerves could not stand even such a strong man.

When the removal of the body began, it was frankly cramped in the street, it seemed as if the whole city was about to see off the Lavrov sisters. Portraits, medals and orders were carried by young gymnasts - pupils of Natalia. Cars passing by honked, and then it started to rain.

According to popular belief, it rains at funerals when bright people leave.

LAVROVA'S FRIEND ELENA POSEVINA "I DO NOT BELIEVE TO THIS TIME ..."

Russian gymnastics lost a Man, and a very good one, a titled gymnast who was an example for all "artists", not only from Penza, but also from Russia. Natasha set an example of serving her favorite sport. I'm not talking about the fact that she was also a coach, - with difficulty holding back tears, says the senior coach of the Russian national team in group exercises Valentina Ivanitskaya. - How could this happen, why !? I learned this news when I was in the center of Moscow, and I had to get behind the wheel. I began to imagine the whole situation. I am VERY sorry for my parents. How they will take it, I have no idea. I now have a dream that they have another child. Now I want to wish them only patience.

Among those who came to see the sisters on their last journey was a Russian athlete who represented rhythmic gymnastics in individual exercises, a multiple world champion and the wife of Alexei Kortnev from the Accident group Amina Zaripova. There were also Natasha Lavrova's friends in the national team.
