Biathlon competition schedule. Will the Old Ones reach the medal? What to expect from the Czech stage of the Biathlon World Cup

The Russian national team, based on the results of two sprint races in Kontiolahti, announced the composition for the starting stages of the World Cup. Several stars did not get there at once, including world champions and.

The most honest and open

It was definitely the most open and fair selection in Russian history... Virtually any athlete capable of reaching Finland could participate in the two sprint races. Here are the participants of the main and reserve teams, and biathletes admitted separately.

20 points for the first place in the race and further downward. The six athletes with the most points in the two races were to go to the World Cup, the next six to the IBU Cup. Only one place was at the mercy of the coaching council, which eventually took advantage of its privilege only in the women's team. Received a ticket "out of competition". For men, everything remained in strict accordance with the results and without discounts on regalia.

It is not known what results this renewed team will show at the start of the season. It is quite possible that they are not shiny. But, at least, the coaching staff can be applauded for their adherence to principles. Russian biathlon has long been famous for intrigue and undercover struggle for a place in the line-up. Now this "dark side" has been completely nullified.

Babikov - in reserve, Tsvetkov - at the Cup of Russia

The main "victims" of the new system were reigning champions World Relay - Anton Babikov and Maxim Tsvetkov. Both failed two races, never even getting into the top six. Babikov was slightly better, reaching seventh in the second sprint, and eventually qualified for at least the IBU Cup. Tsvetkov, with zero qualifying points, remained the last among the participants. Sochi Olympic champion Aleksey Volkov is also not far away - he has only three points in two races.

The coaching council showed adherence to principles and did not invite titled athletes even to the IBU Cup. Tsvetkov and Volkov will start the season at the Russian Cup, from where they will be able to get out at the end of December at the Izhevsk rifle. As practice shows, it will be extremely difficult to do this. There are many examples when one unsuccessful selection in November actually crossed out the entire season. Although to believe in the resurrection of Tsvetkov with Volkov, of course, is better to the last.

Shipulin vacated his seat until January

Best Russian biathlete had a guaranteed place in the base for decades, regardless of selection. But in the end, Anton decided not to compete in either two races in Kontiolahti, or at the December stages of the World Cup. Instead, he will continue to train with the reserve team and start the season with the IBU Cup and Izhevsk Rifle Cup.

Shipulin's decision, in fact, is very honest and logical. Until the last, Anton doubted whether to continue his career, and as a result, he missed the entire block of summer training. You could, of course, use your right and get in shape through the stages of the World Cup. But this, firstly, is morally difficult - Shipulin does not suit a place in the third or fourth tens, and secondly, it is wrong in relation to his teammates. Shipulin made the only right choice and gave way to those who plowed for him all summer in training. Anton will be able to return to the World Cup at any time, as soon as he feels ready. Most likely, he will not force the form and will be guided by January. He still has time to gain optimal conditions for the World Cup.

Mystery women

The women's team remains the most mysterious so far. More than half of the squad are World Cup debutants, the leader in the qualifiers, who returned from doping disqualification. However, it seems that the leaders here will change in every race. Almost no one showed stable results in Kontiolahti, even the experienced first sprint won, and the second failed with four penalties.

Our best biathlete according to the results of the Olympics in Pyeongchang Kaisheva is approaching the season in incomprehensible conditions. She got into the composition only by the decision of the coaching council and did not shine with either shooting or speed on the track. But it is likely that the situation will change before the start of the World Cup or immediately after it.

The final stage of the Biathlon World Cup before the New Year will take place from December 20 to 23 in Czech Nove Mesto. There are changes in the Russian national team. In the program of the stage, in comparison with what was in Pokljuka and Hochfilzen, too. The main questions before the stage.

Will there be new faces in the Russian national team?

Yes. Coaching staff Russian team announced that, according to the previously announced principle of rotation, there have been changes in the national team.

Alexey Slepov and Eduard Latypov from the men's team went to the IBU Cup, and instead of them Anton Babikov and Alexander Povarnitsyn were called from the reserve team. Slepov failed all the races in which he participated, and Latypov looked relatively good at his stage in the relay. But in five personal races, he has zero points.

There is only one replacement in the women's team - Anastasia Morozova was recruited to the main team instead of Ulyana Kaisheva. Kaisheva was generally not ready for the start of the season, her inclusion in the team by the coaching decision was a mistake. Morozova, on the other hand, performs well in the IBU Cup.

What's new in the stage program?

For the first time in this season races will be held from a common start. As you know, athletes from the top 25 fall into them. overall standings plus the top five from the previous races of the stage. In this case, this is the classic sprint-pursuit combination. Alexander Loginov will probably run in the men's race, good chances and Matvey Eliseev. Irina Starykh will definitely start in the women's race, almost certainly - Evgenia Pavlova and Ekaterina Yurlova, with a high probability - Valeria Vasnetsova. Unless, of course, the health of any of the athletes fails.

Will the Old Ones reach the medal?

Leader of our women's team Irina Starykh in Pokljuka and Hochfilzen was incredibly stable. If he continues to perform in this way, then from sixth place in the overall standings he will rise even higher. By by and large, she only lacks a prize place so that the result is not just good, but very good. During her career, she has two podiums at the World Cup stages, but that was five years ago - in Hochfilzen and Annecy.

How will beginners run?

It is interesting to see how the athletes called up to the main team will look like in the World Cup. Morozova and Babikov are the leaders of the IBU Cup overall standings. Anton could have returned to the World Cup at the Austrian stage, but a strange story happened with his non-participation in the relay. Who is right and who is wrong, in the end it will still be found out. In the meantime, Babikov has an excellent chance to secure a place in the team for the January stages. The same can be said about Alexander Povarnitsyn. Anastasia Morozova makes her debut in the World Cup.

Martin or Johannes?

In Hochfilzen, Martin Fourcade returned to his usual results. In the sprint - silver, in the pursuit - gold. He did not run the relay in Austria. But in the Czech Republic he will run all three races and will try to catch up and bypass in the overall standings the currently leading Norwegian Johannes Be. However, the younger Be also did not run the baton in Hochfilzen and will defend his leadership in Nove Mesto. While his superiority is more than solid - 57 points, and excellent chances of meeting New Year leader.

Kaisa or Dorothea?

Among women, the sharpest struggle for first place in the overall standings unfolded between Dorothea Wierer and Kaisa Mäkäräinen. The Finca is only seven points behind the Italian. And if both continue to run and shoot in the same way as in previous races, they will break even further away from their pursuers. And if they do not continue, then Anastasia Kuzmina, Paulina Fialkova, Monica Hoinisch, and others are ready to intervene in the struggle.

Where to watch the races?

Everyone seems to know the answer to this question. With Russian commentary, the race in live can be watched on the channels "Match" and "Eurosport", with comments in other languages, there are many channels on the Internet. The whole question is just a precise schedule and habit.

Millions of fans are eagerly awaiting the 2018-2019 Biathlon World Cup. This competition in terms of entertainment and audience is in no way inferior to popular winter sports, for example, or. In the upcoming season, the stages of the Cup are envisaged in eight countries, and for the first time in a long time, "shooting skiers" will compete on the overseas tracks of the USA and Canada.

Tournament regulations

The 2018-2019 Biathlon World Cup calendar was drawn up by the IBU Executive Board at a regular meeting, which took place in November in Germany. The schedule of races can be found in the following table:

Stage number

the date of the

Slovenia, Pokljuka

Austria, Hochfilzen

Czech Republic, Nove Mesto

Germany, Oberhof

Italy, Antholz

Canada, Canmore

USA, Soldier Hall

Norway, Oslo

It is noteworthy that the Russian stage in Tyumen has disappeared from the 2018-2019 Biathlon World Cup calendar. Andres Besseberg, the head of the IBU, explained the absence of races in Russia rather vaguely. In his opinion, the March stage in Tyumen is unprofitable in terms of logistics, and the athletes would have to travel too far. It is strange, considering that flying to Norway from the United States is not much closer, while there is a significant time interval between the eighth and ninth stages (more than a month), which is quite enough for the transportation of equipment.

In fact, the IBU "adjusted" the biathlon schedule for 2018-2019 due to the fact that RUSADA (the Russian anti-doping agency) was not reinstated. Until now, a number of promising domestic racers are serving a disqualification, and caustic comments from rivals fly in the athletes performing under the Russian flag. For example, the leader of the world biathlon, Martin Fourcade, has repeatedly spoken out in favor of the exclusion of individual athletes from Russia from the World Cup stages.

Major disciplines

The list of biathlon races for men and women has long remained unnamed, including the following disciplines:

  • sprint;
  • mass start;
  • pursuit race;
  • individual race.

Moreover, within the framework of the WC, men's and women's relay races are also held, providing for four stages with two firing lines (from a prone and standing position). Nevertheless, any kind of sport does not stand still, therefore new disciplines have appeared on an experimental basis in modern biathlon. It is about the mixed relay, when they compete with each other best teams made up of male and female “rifle riders” who compete for their country.

The scoring system for individual disciplines remains unchanged. For each race, the athlete receives (or does not receive) a certain number of points, which go both to the WC in the corresponding competitive discipline and to the overall standings of the World Cup. The biathlete who scored the highest number of points at the end of the season in all starts receives the "Big Crystal globe". There are also several "Small Crystal Globes" provided, for example, in an individual race or a mass start.

Biathlon world championship

Biathlon World Championships 2019 years will pass in Swedish Östersund from 7 to 17 March. A number of women's and men's races are planned within the framework of the tournament:

  • sprint;
  • mass start;
  • pursuit;
  • individual race;
  • men's and women's relay races.

In addition, a single player will be added to the list of competitive disciplines. mixed relay(so called super mixed). It is not planned to score points for the World Cup at the upcoming 2019 World Cup for this discipline, but in the future it will certainly be included in the compulsory program.

Favorites of the upcoming season

In the men's biathlon, the role of the permanent favorite for several seasons belongs to the Frenchman Martin Fourcade. In 2017-2018, he took, without exception, all Crystal Globes, both large and small. The only disappointment of the Frenchman was the section of the first place in the standings of individual races with an ascending Norwegian star Johannes Be. The aggravation of the struggle between these two riders is predicted by most experts, although the dominant role will probably remain with Fourcade.

Among other biathletes seriously claiming first places in the WC standings, we note:

  • Emil Hegle Svendsen;
  • Anton Shipulin;
  • Arnd Peiffer;
  • Tarja Be;
  • Jacob Faka.

An important news for all biathlon fans was the departure of the eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The king missed winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and decided to leave big sport on a positive note. The Norwegian gave way to new heroes who will lead the fight without looking back at the legend of world sports.

IN women's biathlon the upcoming season promises to be one of the most unpredictable. At least a dozen biathletes will compete for the Big Crystal Globe, among which stand out:

  • Dorothea Wierer;
  • Laura Dahlmeier;
  • Kaisa Mäkärainen;
  • Anastasia Kuzmina.

According to experts, the main struggle will unfold between Domracheva and Mäkärainen. The past season for the Belarusian woman turned out to be crumpled, since she could not get the optimal condition after the birth of the child. She lacked only 18 points before the coveted trophy, so Mäkärainen will have to demonstrate phenomenal speed and composure on the shooting lines if she wants to retain the title.

Thus, the 2018-2019 Biathlon World Cup will include nine stages, among which, due to the current circumstances, there is no Russian Tyumen. New season promises to be interesting, unpredictable and uncompromising. Don't miss the first races of the tournament on December 3 in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

Also, sad information appeared regarding the biathlon world cup of the 2018/2019 season, as well as the 2019/2020.

Vladimir Yakushev (governor of the Tyumen region) said that Russia may lose the right to host the World Cup stages of these seasons.

“Today it is very unpleasant situation“Europe is opposed to our country, similar recommendations of the IOC, which affect the holding of international competitions in Russia,” said Yakushev. - Applications for organizing the stages of the biathlon world cup, which were submitted before 2016, will not be affected. In 2017 and 2018, the stages of this great tournament will take place on the territory of our country. But doubts creep in about 2019 and 2020, not the fact that this will happen, the disposition is as follows - the current situation is far from in favor of Russia. "

Biathlon has long occupied an honorable place among the most spectacular sports. He has been in the program for a long time Olympic Games but this is not the only important event for athletes. Every year, long-term competitions are held among them, including the World Championship. Biathlon World Cup 2018/2019 will traditionally be held in the territories different countries, and one stage of this competition is the World Cup.

Elimination of the Russian stage of the World Cup

For many years, one of the cup stages periodically took place on the territory Russian Federation... By the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union, held in Germany on November 18-19, 2017, it was decided to exclude the Russian stage from the 2018/2019 Biathlon World Cup.

For many sports fans and participants from different countries, the political underpinnings of this decision are obvious. With every such deed sports organizations the role of policy intervention in professional sports becomes apparent. On the Internet and at the competitions themselves, you can often see inscriptions and posters that require politicians not to get involved in sports.

The situation is ambiguous, Russia does not accept one of the KM stages this season, but it does not make a tragedy out of it either. At the same time, people close to sports joke that there is no place where there is a lot of snow. ski competitions... They are simply carried out where there is no snow. This is true - very often at the European stages of the World Cup ski Track completely artificial. There are also opinions that this is done in order to undermine confidence. Russian athletes... This can lead to a decrease in their results, allegedly proving their hidden involvement in doping, or rather, to the fact that they are not using it now.

General schedule of KM biathlon for 2018/2019

The 2018/2019 Biathlon World Cup kicks off in Slovenia. The first competition will be held in Pokljuka on December 3, 2018. The total length is traditional - about 7 days, so the last races of the stage will be held on 09.12.2018.

  1. Austria, Hochfilzen - 10.12-16.12.2018.
  2. Czech Republic, Nove Mesto - 17.12-23.12.2018.
  3. Germany, Oberhof - 07.01-13.01.2019.
  4. Germany, Ruhpolding - 14.01-20.01.2019.
  5. Italy, Antholz - 01.21-27.01.2019.
  6. Canada, Canmore - 04.02-10.02.2019.
  7. USA, Soldier Hollow - 11.02-17.02.2019.

Championship the world will pass after the American stage of the KM biathlon. Conventionally, this is the longest stage, taking 10-11 days. The 2019 World Cup will be held in Sweden (Östersund) from 7 to 17 March. The biathlon season will end in Norway (Holmenkollen). The final stage of the KM biathlon 2018/2019 will take place from 18 to 24 March.

KM races

For a long time, the list of biathlon competitions remained unchanged. It was formed and it already seemed that it was simply impossible to come up with something interesting in the framework of biathlon competitions. Nevertheless, not so long ago, 2 relatively new types of races appeared:

  1. Mixed relay.
  2. Single mixed relay.

These two types of races are very young on the scale of long-term competitions. The first of them was held in 2002, the second in 2015. At the same time, the latter option immediately became part of the cup stages, and the simple mixed relay after the first race was not held for 5 years. Both races turned out to be spectacular, so now they have firmly taken their place both at the cup stages and at the World Biathlon Championships.

Previously, the list included only these types:

  1. Sprint.
  2. Relay race.
  3. Mass start.
  4. Pursuit.
  5. Individual race.

The individual race is considered a classic of biathlon by right, it was from this type of competition that the World Cup was born. Also one of the "oldest" types of races is the classic relay race of 4 people of the same sex from each country.

The number of races of each type is different during all cup stages. The same individual race, despite its importance, is not so spectacular, so it is held 3 times in all stages. The relay race and mass start are as unpredictable as possible, therefore the audience likes them, they are held 5-6 times each in 9 stages. The most common are the sprint followed by the pursuit. They are held at almost every cup stage.

World Cup within the Cup Stage

In fact, the Biathlon World Cup breaks the stages of the World Cup, at the same time being a part of it. In 2019, the World Championship will be held 53 times. There were 4 applicants, including Khanty-Mansiysk. Östersund was elected by the majority of votes. For many years, only 5 races were held within the framework of the World Cup, which have already become classic. Later, there were changes in the number of competitions - a mixed relay was added.

The World Championship in Östersund will become a landmark - now a supermix, that is, a single mixed relay, will be added to the competition. While for this discipline they will only award medals at the World Cup, cup points have not yet been awarded. For the rest of the usual biathlon races held during the World Cup, individual and team points will be awarded as part of the 2018/2019 Biathlon World Cup.

Cup points! IN individual races they are received by athletes from 1 to 40 places from 60 to 1 point. In the mass start there are only 30 participants - 60 points for 1st place, 2. In relay races, points are awarded for 1st place 420, for the last 30 - only 20. At the same time, there is also a separate standings for the Nations Cup with its own system of accruals.

Biathlon deservedly enjoys the interest of the audience. Even one race arouses interest, allowing you to gamblingly watch the passage of the track and the shooting. Knowledge of the nuances of scoring and other features of biathlon competitions only enhances interest in this type of competition.
