How to make a sports fishing rod for perch yourself? And what "balalaika" is best suited for sport spinning?

Unfortunately, despite the huge assortment on fishing counters, there are few places where you can find on sale sports winter fishing rods for lure. And even if they are lying around where, then their price really bites and very often they simply do not "fit into the hand." In fact, every experienced fisherman perfectly understands that he can only do some things himself. This is especially true in winter, when the angler has to make his own fishing rods for trolling, spoon baits or even a fishing box.

But, not everything is as bad and difficult as it seems. It is enough to buy a good, branded balalaika, carbon fiber whip from a summer fishing rod and make a sports winter fishing rod yourself. But all about this in order, starting with the most important.

Choosing a balalaika

I went through quite a lot of winter balalaikas until I settled on Salmo Handy Ice Rods. Unlike other balalaikas, it immediately "fell into the hand", it has a rough surface and does not slip in the hand.

It has two washers, one under the spool and one on the so-called "friction", which provide easy movement and line discharge without much effort and line bite. There is no need to worry about the abrasion of the fishing line with this fishing rod, because a cambric is mounted in the body of the balalaika, through which the fishing line passes. In general, the fishing rod is very light, comfortable and practical, so I advise you to make a sports fishing rod from it.

We do not need a native whip, but you should not throw it away, you can give it to your mother or grandmother for attaching houseplants.

The weight of the Salmo Handy Ice Rod balalaika is over 16 grams. I think that few people suffer from dystrophy and will say that it is heavy weight for winter fishing rods.

And so, in addition to the balalaika itself, for the manufacture of a sports fishing rod, we need:

1. Stationery knife.

2. Pliers with nippers (or separately pliers and nippers).

3. Glue "Second" or "Super-glue".

4. Meter or long ruler.

5. Plastic coated paperclip.

6. All-metal single-rod pin.

7. Grinding sponge.

8. And of course, a carbon fiber whip from a summer float rod of at least # 3.5

The first thing to do is adjust the diameter of the whip to the diameter of the hole in our balalaika. I do this by eye, sawing off with a clerical knife from the thick part of the whip until it fits snugly into the hole of the balalaika.

When we fit the whip to the diameter of the balalaika hole, it needs to be processed with a grinding sponge.

Now, you need to choose the length of the whip. To be honest, the length of the rod is selected individually: it is convenient for someone to fish with long whips, others - with short ones. But, nevertheless, there is a golden mean - 45-50 cm. Personally, it is convenient for me to catch with fishing rods of 45 cm. I would like to note that the length of the fishing rod is considered together with the balalaika.

As you have decided on the length, we make an incision on the whip (or any other mark), take it out of the balalaika and saw it in this place with a clerical knife. Then we process the cut with a sponge.

Now we can insert the whip back into the balalaika and fix it with "superglue" for reliability.

Perhaps you can start making a tulip for our sport fishing rod. The simplest, most convenient and reliable way is to make a tulip from a paper clip with a plastic cover. Yes, it is with a plastic coating, this coating will protect the fishing line from friction and help prevent it from freezing to the tulip. There is no need for expensive Fuji tulips, and even to the detriment of a sports fishing rod, since in the wind, due to a large tulip, there will be a strong vibration transmitted to the hand.

It is very easy to make a tulip for our sport fishing rod. It is enough to unbend a paper clip and bite off a piece with pliers, clamp the two ends with pliers and bend them, leaving a small hole in the bend.

Well, now you can glue our homemade tulip into the whip of the rod and pour glue liberally into the gaps and cracks.

Have you forgotten that we still have a pin? I use the pin as an eyelet for attaching spinners.

Let's bite off a little less than half of the pin with pliers and put it carefully on the glue in our balalaika.

Our Salmo Handy Ice Rod is ready for sport lure from balalaika. The weight of the fishing rod did not change critically, it increased only by one gram!

Now it remains to reel good line and go fishing!

I am fishing with these rods for the 2nd season, and they suit me perfectly. There were catching a perch for half a kilo, a good bersh, a perch, and even good pikes landed. The whip and the balalaika copes with their tasks perfectly well.

The rod does not need any nods, even the bite of a small perch is perfectly transferred to the hand.

But, and most importantly, these rods help me to show good results in competitions in winter spoon off the ice.

See you on the ice, don't forget to loosen your friction clutch before fishing!

Making a winter sport fishing rod.

(material posted with permission from Alexander Kasyanov (bronik), Krasnoyarsk.)

Summer is over. Soon the white flies will fly, and the reservoirs will gradually be covered with a thin shell of ice. "Penguins" start to fuss. They renew the tackle, sort out the jigs, looking longingly at the temperature outside the window. They are waiting for the mercury column to fall over minus. For the winter road, this is probably the most anxious expectation of the season, especially if the winter road catches on a jig, and even at the same time actively participates in sporting events on fishing... So I want to, on the eve of the season, I will share my little experience of fishing with a sports jig. What is a sports jig? Many people think that this is a very small and heavy jig. But in fact, in the complex it is the tackle itself, and your hands, and your skills and experience, sober calculation and analytical thinking, tactics and complementary foods. That is, everything that will allow you to show a decent result at the competition, in a short period of time in a confined space. For anyone who wants to start competing in competitions, I will tell you where to start, and I think this will help to avoid initial mistakes and useless waste.

Chapter One: Winter Sport Fishing Pole.

In most cases, a winter sport fishing rod is a balalaika. I, of course, do not argue that other versions of fishing rods are no less good, even in the same competitions it happened that fishermen won, for example, who fished with rods with an open reel and a long handle. But for an athlete, a sports fishing rod is, first of all, a convenient, well-oiled tool that must work flawlessly throughout the entire competition. And the "balalaika" is more suitable for this. There is nothing superfluous in it, and if there is, it can be easily removed with your own hands. Any "balalaika" can be brought to mind, adjusted to fit your hand. There would be a desire, as they say. Basically, "balalaikas" are of two types - foam and plastic. Polyfoam is comfortable, lightweight, does not get hot in the cold. The main requirement for a foam balalaika, if you are going to modify it, is the density of the foam. Let's look at how you can get a lightweight and convenient tool from an ordinary "balalaika" worth about 100 rubles. First, let's make it lighter by removing excess foam from the body. What will it give us? Less hassle when dropping the rod and then pulling up to the hole. A light fishing rod glides faster on snow, clings less to crust and irregularities, does not sink deep in loose snow. And the hand gets tired less. The weight of the purchased fishing rod is 22 grams, and already lightweight is 10-12 grams. And so - we carefully process the fishing rod on emery. I usually cut to the maximum. Like this.

Then I process it with medium grit sandpaper. Here you need to be extremely careful so as not to break the fragile base. Then I grind it with zero. Then I cover it with varnish. Although it is possible, in principle, and paint with paint. Before covering, be sure to check the center pin on which the bobbin is attached. It should fit snugly in the foam and not wobble. If this happens, it is better to pull it out and stick it on glue (epoxy). Here is the case, in principle, and ready. Let's deal with the bobbin. On the bobbin, remove all burrs along the edges with a zero.

Then we cut out the washers from astrolon (film from the keyboard) and put them on the axis. The spool should lie on the washers, the gap between it and the plane of the body should be no more than the thickness of a regular sheet of paper.

The axis is also carefully processed with fine sandpaper, removing all burrs.

The spool itself is lubricated with PMS-400 grease, which is sold in radio parts stores.

What does it give us? Easy movement of the reel when winding and unwinding the line and if the gap is minimal, the line will not fly off the reel and wrap around the axle under it. This happens when you quickly unwind the line. long spurts... A fishing rod made of plastic, I also grind it on emery, and then glue it with a thin foam.

The rod will become warm and will not heat up in cold weather. Where can I get the foam? I bought a swimming board from Sportmaster. I tore off the top layer from it and glue for my pleasure. By the way, you need rubber glue.

Now we will finalize the whip. I make the length 10-15 cm. First, I cut and fit the thick end of the whip, and then making sure that it is inserted into the rod with light effort, I cut the thin end.

Next, I grind the whip along the plane so that it ceases to be round. The whip becomes softer and more flexible, and the nod when attaching it to the whip will fall on the plane, rather than on a round one.

Then I heat the edge of the whip, where the nod will be attached, with a lighter and bend it at 45 degrees. Let it cool down.

Then I carefully cut off all the excess, trying to make the fold as small as possible. Then I heat the needle and make a hole through which the fishing line will pass to the nod.

We adjust the whip to the body and glue it. So we got quite a tolerable sport fishing rod. It remains to equip it with a fishing line, a nod and a jig, which is the basis in a sports jig.

Greetings Dear friends... On the eve of the Russian Ice Fishing Championship, I decided, so to speak, to get imbued with the spirit of winter fishing and tell a little about winter tackle, namely, sports winter fishing rods from the Latvian company Salmo.

I will consider fishing rods, the so-called balalaikas, because such rods are in demand, first of all, for fishing with a jig, both among amateurs and among athletes. I'll start in the order in which I rated them for myself with the ones I liked the most.

SALMOSPORT... Sports balalaika in a high-quality foam case. Styrofoam material is "warm", in frosty weather the fishing rod will not seem like a piece of ice in your hand. Unlike other models made of polystyrene, this rod got a glass-like plastic shape for a spool, which, as the manufacturer assures, will not wedge when the temperature drops and it will not let the foam “sink” over time. I checked to see if the spool wedge appears after the rod falls into the water and lies there for a while. However, after I removed it from the hole, the bobbin rotated perfectly. Available in three colors: red, yellow, green. Aesthetes will be able to choose a color to their liking, and athletes, having a huge arsenal of identical rods, can easily be distinguished by the color of which, so to speak, fish the tackle is prepared for.

The rod also received a friction washer, works flawlessly, and legs for installation on ice for stationary fishing. The bobbin diameter was 38 mm, and the length was 24.3 cm. The bobbin is quite rigid at the fold, this will allow maintaining contact with the jig at great depths. ... Due to such a "pot-bellied" body, the fishing rod, for me personally, is somehow more pleasant in my hand, so I give it the first place

SALMO HANDY ICE ROD. Which in translation sounds like convenient. Indeed, the case is made of high quality foam, has an ergonomic shape that fits very comfortably in the hand.

Unlike the previous model, the fishing rod received 2 lavsan washers - from the bottom and from the top. Thanks to them, the spool does not come into contact with the body by a millimeter, due to which excellent smoothness of rotation and frictional braking is achieved.

Also, the line hole in the rod body is equipped with a silicone cambric, which will allow your line to remain unharmed when dumping or reeling.

It is also produced in three colors: red, yellow, green. Spool diameter 45mm, rod length 24.3cm.

The six is the same stiffness as that of Salmo sport rod ... Equipped with legs for installation on ice. I give her the silver.

SALMOPRECISEDRAG. The difference with the Handy rod is mainly in the body, it is more compact and flatter, due to which it returns to you through the snow more easily and without hooks.

But the six, on the other hand, feels softer in the bend, which will certainly benefit anglers who like to use thin fishing lines. The color scheme is the same - traffic light. Spool diameter 45mm. rod length 24.6 cm. Great option and a bronze place.

SALMOEASYDRAGICEROD. It is fundamentally different from its fellows. The rod is made of frost-resistant plastic. Screw friction brake, two sixes of different rigidity included, which is very convenient, you can work with lines of different diameters. There is no silicone cambric for the line exit here, since the hole is ideally smoothly perforated. If desired, the cambric can be installed by yourself. I fish with such rods without any dumbbells, the line is not injured, although it is on these rods that I wound the thinnest diameters of 0.06mm.

Also available in three colors. But here only the friction nut has a color. The spool diameter is also 45mm here. Length 25 cm. A wonderful rod in a strict black design will find its fans.

Let me summarize why balalaikas are so goodSalmo

  • An extensive line of fishing rods, you can choose for a variety of fishing conditions.
  • Fishing rods are designed to meet all the requirements of the angler. If any revision is needed, it is minimized.
  • All fishing rods, regardless of the material, are lightweight, from 12 to 15 grams.
  • Snow practically does not stick to the fishing rods at the time of fishing.
  • Their low cost compared to other well-known manufacturers.

I believe that these models are suitable for both a beginner and a professional. Finally, a few photos where Salmo rods are being tested in practice ...

Fishing rod

A fisherman - an athlete to win a competition must use only perfect tackle, in my opinion the following fishing rods are perfect balalaikas:

    Fishing rod called "SPORT" from the SALMO catalog. It is inexpensive and therefore in demand among the people. The set includes two spools, two whips of different lengths and a stand for stationary fishing. Good quality. Just before buying, I advise you to choose an instance with the smoothest spool run, because out of five "balalaikas" only one can have this quality. Well, for those who are not lazy, you can additionally process the inside of the case with fine sandpaper.

    Fishing rod MASTER, produced in Yaroslavl. Winter fishing rod from Evgeny Konstantinovich Chabutkin - coach of the Yaroslavl national team in winter fishing, chairman of the board of judges of Russia in sport fishing. This "balalaika" is produced for the needs of sportsmen-jugglers and rarely goes on sale. The design is simple, but verified by many years of competition experience. Soft, frost-resistant, elastic whip, smooth running of the spool, low weight and small dimensions (thickness - 6mm)

In my opinion, this is one of the best "balalaikas" today. Everything in it is thought out and done wisely

Unfortunately, this "balalaika" is in short supply even in Moscow, and in Belarus it is not sold at all. Although the price is very nice. Apparently, the shortage is associated with a limited production run.

Assembled length - 190 mm
Weight - 11 g
Base diameter - 50 mm
Base thickness - 7 mm
Whip length - 140 mm
Material - plastic

Price 260 rubles

    The most popular, and the highest quality ones, are the so-called. "Mikheevki", is made by the coach of the Russian national jigsaw team, Muscovite - Vladimir Mikheev. These rods are time-tested.

I can only point out two drawbacks of Mikheevoks: you can probably buy them only in Moscow, and even then, if you look carefully. And the second is relatively high price: not less than 10 dollars apiece (although in 2001 this figure was several times lower). However, there is nothing surprising here: first-class tackle self made by definition, they cannot be produced in large quantities and sold for pennies. So it would be wrong to make any claims against the manufacturer.

"Mikheevki" are made by milling, that is, the body of the fishing rod is turned from a single piece of foam. And by carefully fitting the dimensions, the plastic coil ends up with a very smooth ride. Actually, this is the main criterion for the quality of any "balalaika": the clamping lamb allows you to adjust the reel so that it surrenders the line with some effort and at the same time allows you to hook the fish. Something like a spinning coil clutch.

It is not surprising that entrepreneurs decided to copy such a successful design and put it into mass production in order to make a profit. So at the end of the 90s, store shelves were filled with all sorts of "balalaika" variations. And they all had one common feature... The fact is that the implementation of such a large-scale project implied production by casting, instead of milling. The material itself was also slightly changed: if very light, porous yellowish polystyrene was used in Mikheevki,

then a slightly heavier and harder white foam was used for casting.

Fishing line

Many fishermen have long known that the thinner the line, the more bites.

The fishing line in a winter sports fishing rod should be thin (so that the fish is not afraid of it), strong (as strong as possible with a minimum thickness) and tough (soft fishing line gets tangled on the ice). Athletes use line diameters between 0.050 and 0.100.

I use lines such as:

1. SHIMANO Ultegra Silk Shock It successfully combines high tensile strength and low elongation. The disadvantages of this line include softness. It is well calibrated, that is, fluctuations in diameter throughout the entire length of the line are very small. The actual diameter is close to the declared one, slightly exceeding it.

In the Szymanov assortment "Ultegra" is presented in fourteen variants:

0.05 mm;

0.06 mm;

0.07 mm;

0.08 mm;

0.09 mm;

0.10 mm;

0.11 mm;

0.12 mm;

0.14 mm;

0.16 mm;

0.18 mm;

0.20 mm;

0.22 mm;

0.25 mm.

As a matter of fact, the end of this row is not of particular interest, and many retail stores simply do not import such line.

2. Colmic xilo . All other things being equal to SHIMANO Ultegra, this line is not as soft. “Strange” fractions (like 0.069 mm, 0.165 mm ...) are explained by the Japanese standard; among the Japanese, each diameter value corresponds to a certain number (for example, No. 0.175, No. 1 ...). Xilo is characterized by the coincidence of the declared diameter with the actual one with very accurate calibration. This can be considered a plus. Anyway, it's convenient!

The Colmic Xilo line has a flat, smooth surface and behaves well on knots. If we continue the comparison with Ultegra, then fresh Xylo outperforms fresh Ultegra in many respects (in particular, in deformation), but Ultegra is more durable when stored both in packaging and on a fishing rod.

If with the declared diameter of "Colmic Xilo" everything is just perfect, then here breaking load overestimated on the label. In fact, for example, "Xilo" 0.104 mm holds 1.1 kg (instead of the nominal 1890 g), and 0.117 mm - 1.3 kg (instead of 1480 g). Miracles do not happen, and anything much higher is sheer deception.

"Xilo" is very popular among winter jiggers of the "sports type", and for good reason.

Xilo is available in the following diameters:

0.053 mm;

0.059 mm;

0.064 mm;

0.069 mm;

0.079 mm;

0.090 mm;

0.104 mm;

0.117 mm;

0.128 mm;

0.148 mm;

0.165 mm;

0.185 mm;

0.205 mm.

Mormyshka

Many fishermen know firsthand about the benefits of tungsten jigs. They differ in shape, color, price, but at the same time, the lack of information on the density of the material of certain products complicates the choice of the buyer.

The main difference between a tungsten jig and a lead jig is its high density (i.e., higher specific gravity).

"Honest" tungsten jigs, chiseled with cambric, known to fishermen as "Tula jig".

Such a jig is sharpened from a tungsten blank obtained at a specialized enterprise. The density of the workpiece exceeds 18.0 g / cm3. A hole is drilled into the product for fishing line and a hook. A cambric is inserted into the hole under the fishing line, which eliminates the rubbing of the fishing line against the metal and increases, as statistics show, the life of the jig by 4-5 times.

The hook is soldered on specially designed equipment, the introduction of which has eliminated non-soldering, sometimes leading to the hook falling out. The sanded flat gives the jig a special play, which increases the bite intensity.

“Tula mormyshki” in the world have been or are being produced by several enterprises. First of all, these are two competitors from Tula - Vladimir Pushkov and Viktor Kiselev.

"Kiselevki" are made of very high quality, have a smaller size (from 1.8 mm, in contrast to "cannons", whose size starts from 2.5 mm) and a thinner hook, are more expensive.

A wide range of Tula jigs (drop, pellet, oatmeal, ant) and a large range of sizes allow each angler to choose a jig according to the body of water and fish.

The third, well-known manufacturer of high-quality tungsten is located in Moscow. These are the so-called "Kunilov" jigs. Although the quality of their workmanship is high, this manufacturer does not produce small-sized jigs.

Grooving jig It is made of tungsten blanks VNZh, VND with a density of 18 g / cm3. By turning or grinding to the appropriate shape. Next, a groove is cut, which subsequently, when the hook is attached, is filled with solder to form a hole for the fishing line. The average density of the jig is significantly reduced due to the groove cut in the tungsten workpiece. The loss of the specific gravity of the jig directly depends on the size of the groove, its length and width. Therefore, this technology has not become widespread, although amateurs sometimes use this technology to make large jigs.

Pressed jigs В recent times shops filled tungsten jigs, obtained by pressing. They can be called tungsten at a stretch. Pure tungsten comes only in powder form. To give the alloy a certain shape, various binding additives are used: copper, nickel, iron. These elements bind the grains of tungsten powder, giving it the necessary strength and density. Tungsten blanks are produced by powder metallurgy. Requires special equipment for pressing, high-temperature hydrogen furnaces for subsequent complex heat treatment - sintering. This can only be done by specialized powder metallurgy enterprises. Pressed retail tungsten jigs are generally made using lead, glue, or the like as a binder. Since they are very fragile, they are coated with a molten tin or some substance to impart mechanical strength. The density of such jigs is 13-14g / cm3, which is not much higher than the density of lead analogues. There are jigs in which copper and nickel are used as binders. These jigs or workpieces for turning have great strength. But the lack of special equipment does not allow obtaining the density of such jigs above 15 g / cm3.

The second, extremely important, in addition to the density of the material and partly the quality and fastening of the hook, is the presence of a cambric in the hole and the diameter of the hole. The smaller the hole diameter, the higher the average body density of the jig. At the same time, the presence of cambric in a tungsten jig is required. Otherwise, the sharp edges will inevitably cut the line. Therefore, manufacturers are constantly fighting to reduce the diameter of the hole and cambric, but so that the product remains technological.

Watchdog or nod

I use beryl bronze nods, but successful fishing from ice requires thin tackle and small jigs, and therefore soft and sensitive nods made of film materials.

Sports nods are made from several materials. These are X-ray pictures, astrolon (film from the keyboard), drum membrane, computer square diskette, etc. For fishing with small Tula jigs, a nod from a floppy disk is best suited.

In 3.5 and 5.25 inch floppy disks, there is a thin film disk inside, either lavsan, or some other material. Perhaps it is also coated with Teflon, a very wear-resistant and elastic material. It can be cut into thin strips with a knife of the desired width and length and you get great nods.

The bites on the rise from the bottom are perfectly visible, the fish does not feel this nod when biting at all, it is very sensitive.

The disadvantages are that over time it bends a little and loses the desired shape, but given the ease of manufacture and virtually zero cost, it can be changed to a new one after a few fishing trips.

In 5-inch floppy disks, the film is thicker, but it is also difficult to get them, since they are a rarity, you can probably get them in computer stores that sell used equipment.

The manufacturing process looks like this. We take out the disk from the inside

Cut into thin strips. It is more convenient to do this using a metal ruler with a knife with replaceable blades or scissors

We cut the strips, you can cut them slightly with scissors to the desired thickness and narrowing

We take the needle and heat it on a candle and burn the holes at the end of the nod for the fishing line

We put it on the fishing rod using a heat shrink tube by passing the cambric into it from the wires for the fishing line (you can also use a silicone tube of the required diameter)
We get such a nod

Conclusion

A sport fishing rod for jigging is very different from other rods. This rod will help you catch more fish than a regular rod. Of course, a correctly assembled sport rod helps to achieve good results, but still the main criterion is always the skill of the angler!

Beginners, and not only fishermen, often have questions when choosing tackle for winter fishing, especially in a new reservoir. Although winter gear is not as diverse as summer gear, there are still different types of equipment. Their choice depends on the type of reservoir in which fishing is planned, and on the fish intended for fishing.

By types of fish, one can distinguish between tackle for catching white fish, such as dyeing, roach or bream, and a predator - pike, pike perch. Perch is often caught with both tackles.

According to the types of water bodies, winter fishing rods can be divided for the current and for calm water.

Now let's consider the features and differences of different, winter gear in more detail.

Fishing rod equipment for fishing roach, bream and crucian carp

Equipping a winter fishing rod with a rig with a float allows you to easily switch from summer to winter fishing, and does not require special, additional skills. On such a tackle you can catch bream, breeder, silver bream, roach, crucian carp and perch.

Selecting tooling items

For a winter float fishing rod, the following accessories are used:

I catch roach, bream, crucian carp, etc. on a winter float fishing rod they lead to live bait - bloodworms, maggot, mormysh, etc.

Installation of equipment

Installation of a winter float rod is quite simple. For him, in addition to the previously listed accessories, we need scissors and pliers.

  1. We measure the fishing line, its length should be equal to two depths of the reservoir in the place of fishing, plus 2 - 3 meters. Such a value is needed so that you have a supply of fishing line in case of a break.
  2. We wind the line onto the reel.
  3. We pass the line through the rings on the rod or attach a cambric, ring or other element to it for attaching to the tip of the rod.

  4. Then we pass the line through the hole in the float or put on an element that attaches the line to the float.

  5. The next step is to load the float. First, the main weight is attached to the line, giving the float almost zero buoyancy. Below it we place a very small weight, which will immerse our float, and when it rises, the float will float.
  6. Below a small load, about 5 - 7 cm, we tie a hook, either on a leash, or directly to the main line. In the second case, a knot must be made on the line just below the load, in the place of which the line will break off in case of a hook. Otherwise, we risk losing most of the tackle, and not just the hook.

That's it, the winter rod is ready to use.

For perch, pike, pike perch

When fishing with a winter rod for pike, perch and pike perch, use a jig, spoon or balancer. For perch fishing, all three types of lures are used, for pike and pike-perch, the last two are a balancer and a vertical spoon.

Tackle with a nod and a jig.

Fishing with a jig with a nod is the most common for winter fishing... Moreover, the jig is used both with and without a nozzle. In addition to perch, this tackle is used to catch roach, bream, silver bream and most other white fish.

Selection of accessories

Fishing with a ice rod with a jig and a nod is a rather active method of fishing that requires constant play with a nozzle, so the tackle should be light.

  • For such a winter fishing rod, a rod is chosen, the handle of which is made of light materials, cork, various dense foams, light plastics, covered with thermal insulating material that does not cool hands when fishing.
  • Note! For more than 30 years, many anglers have been using a fishing rod, popularly nicknamed "balalaika", as light industrial fishing rods for winter fishing with a jig, in which the reel is embedded in a round or oval-shaped handle. She has proven herself perfectly both for sports and for amateur fishing..

  • The rod is equipped with a small, lightweight reel.
  • The whip is elastic, in the case of a perch it is quite hard, allowing you to cut through the mouth of a fish when striking. Length 20 - 30 cm.
  • There are nods different types, the most common are the following:
    • lavsan nods in the form of a long strip;
    • rubber nipple;
    • coil spring nod;
    • a nod from a strip of spring steel, such as a clock spring (such nods are usually made individually);
    • a nod from a silicone tube.
  • They are attached in one way or another to the tip of the rod, and the type and elasticity of the nod are selected according to the weight of the bait used.
  • The fishing line is taken in color, but thinner than for a float rod, somewhere between 0.1 - 0.15 mm. This is due to the fact that on a thick line easy game The jig will be very clumsy.
  • The choice of jig is very diverse. It can be both jig for bloodworms, and various rewoundless ones, equipped with beads and cambric. Fishermen treat the selection of the jigs themselves in different ways. Some believe that in order to get the result, you need to select a certain type of jig, others that the jig does not matter, and most importantly, how to play it. But in any case, the weight of the jig is an important factor.... When it moves, both upward jerks and smooth dives matter. Heavy jigs cannot provide sufficient smoothness of the descent. On the other hand, at great depths or in the current, a light jig is also not very suitable. All these factors must be considered when choosing. Tungsten jigs are now considered the most versatile.
  • Healthy! When using such jigs as the Witch (Medusa) or the Devil, you need to take into account that a pike or pike perch can peck on them..

Installation of equipment

Equipping a winter fishing rod for nodding with a jig, as in the case of a float, should not cause any particular difficulties.

  • We wind the line onto the reel. Its length should be equal to two depths of the reservoir in this place plus a couple of meters.
  • We attach a nod to the end of the rod.
  • We pass the line through the nod, for different types of it this is done in different ways.
  • We tie the jig to the fishing line. The method of tying depends on the type of jig. For example, if jigs such as a witch or a devil are tied vertically, then most jigs under bloodworms are knitted so that the hook is at an angle to the fishing line.

Fishing rod with nod and balance bar

The balancer is a fairly new lure, but it has already become quite popular among anglers. A winter fishing rod with a nod and a balance bar is used to catch a predator. They catch pike, pike perch and perch and other predatory fish on it.

Selecting tooling items

When choosing accessories for such a winter fishing rod, it is very great importance has the fish you are going to catch.

Installation of equipment

The installation of the rig is not much different from that for a fishing rod with a nod and a jig.

That's it, the tackle is ready to use.

Leakless fishing rod for winter lure

The lure is lighter than the balancer, so the bite on it is felt more clearly. Since, as we have already said, the bite of a walleye or pike in most cases is felt by the hand, many anglers use winter tackle for lure without nodding. In this case, a very light tackle is taken as a rod, which allows you to feel even perch bites.

Selecting tooling items

Most of these rods are made by hand. They are based on a homemade lightweight rod made of a winter sport fishing rod and a carbon tip of a spinning rod or summer rod.

So, for the rod we need:

  • a winter sports fishing rod of the "balalaika" type where the reel is built into the body of the handle;
  • the carbon tip of a spinning rod or fishing rod is at least 35 cm, the main condition is its hollowness, since the line will pass inside it;
  • glue like "Moment";
  • knife and scissors;
  • screwdriver with a set of drills.

Fishing rod making process

  1. We take a winter sports "balalaika" and disassemble it by taking out the coil and disconnecting the whip.

  2. Cut the carbon tip to the length we need. If there are rings on it, carefully cut them off with a knife.... It is not necessary to remove them by heating, as in places of overheating, the carbon whip becomes fragile.
  3. From the set, select a drill, the diameter of which corresponds to the thickness of the butt of the carbon tip.
  4. In the top of the "balalaika" handle we drill a hole at such an angle so that the fishing line coming out of the winter fishing rod does not rub against the edges of the carbon whip. This hole can also be made manually by holding the drill in a vice.

  5. Use a knife to clean the edges of the hole.
  6. Having lubricated the butt of the whip with glue, we glue it into the handle.

  7. After waiting a couple of hours for the glue to set, we put the coil back in place. All the rod is ready.

In addition to the rod, we need fishing line and spinners to equip it.

We use monofilament, colored fishing line. Its diameter directly depends on the expected catch. For perch thinner (0.15 - 0.18 mm), for pike and pike perch thicker, from 0.2 mm.

A wide variety of lures are used. Due to the method of application for winter fishing, vertical spinners are most often used. They are different types and are designed for fishing at different depths and different types of fish. Small for perch, larger for pike perch and pike.

Remember! From the middle of winter, until the first thaws, the pike prefers small fish. Therefore, at the beginning of winter, preference is given to large spoons, and starting from the middle, they switch to small winter spoons.

To make it easier to change lures while fishing, you can use a carabiner.

Installation of equipment

A winter fishing rod for trolling without a nod is equipped quite simply:
