Ilya Sorokin personal life. Ilya Sorokin is the best Russian goalkeeper in the KHL

– After all, you have never told why you chose not to go to the Islanders, but entered into a three-year agreement with CSKA.
– It was not an easy decision, not by some click. I thought a lot, consulted with my parents, with coaches. And I decided that it would be more useful to spend three more years in the KHL, in CSKA.

good chance missed.
“In three years I will be only 25 years old. For a goalkeeper, this is not age at all, moreover, you are just approaching your peak. I don't think I've lost much.

- Is it because of self-doubt?
“Definitely not because of that.

- They say that you greatly surprised Islanders general manager Garth Snow. He seemed to be coming to you with a contract, you agreed on everything, and on the way to you the manager finds out that you signed a contract with CSKA.
– There was no such thing. Yes, I did not hear anything about the fact that he was coming to me to conclude an agreement. We met with him at the development camp in the summer, discussed some points. But then I thought about it. Lots of factors, really. Financial including.

How did the Islanders react to this? Angry?
“I don't know how they reacted to it. If it’s bad, then they didn’t show it.

Do they send gifts?
- Yes, recently they gave me a T-shirt.

- I want to understand if they had such an interest as Mike Babcock had in Nikita Zaitsev?
- No, it wasn't exactly like that. By the way, how old was Zaitsev when he left?

– 24.
- You see. But there are no rules at all. Each player has their own path. Someone even at 18 goes overseas. I decided so.

- And you did not promise the club at that meeting in the development camp that you would start the season with them?
– There was no talk about it at all. There other topics were discussed, there was an acquaintance. But already after I signed the contract, they contacted me, they said that they respect the decision and will continue to follow me.

- Do you watch NHL games?
- We have highlights in the locker room, I see something, something not. But I don't look specifically for the Islanders. To be honest, the season takes a lot of matches, so I'm not even interested in the results.

- Many criticized for such a decision?
- Indeed, there were those who did not approve of my choice. But there are many who said that I did the right thing.

- Do you have any option that you can terminate the contract with CSKA ahead of schedule?
- Not.

- But did you at least study which of the Islanders' goalkeepers is currently on a contract, what are the chances of staying in the first team?
No, I didn't study anything like that. If I went to North America, then it would work on a general basis. Would you have to go to the AHL? It's okay, a lot of people go through this.

WOULD NOT CALL THE LAST SEASON A FAILURE

- I have postponed the fact that you were very dissatisfied with last season?
- I don't think that's really true. Of course, the team in the playoffs could have done better, but the regular season went very well. I have never played so much before. Often went out for CSKA, went to the national team. I agree that a lot did not work out, some goals were not achieved. But it's not always the same to play in the final.

- After losing to Lokomotiv in the playoffs, you took all the blame for the failure.
“It was emotion. We lost, but I really could have acted more reliably. Maybe you consider that season unsuccessful for me, just because after the final match I was upset.

- You were taken to the national team for the World Cup, but even there you played a little.
- It's OK. You know, back then I was preparing for the tournament normally, I was in the mood to show the best game. But you remember that Andrei Vasilevsky arrived then, he was the "first number".

- This is a blow for the goalkeeper when they immediately tell him that you will not play.
- Not for me. I just accepted it as a given, but it did not affect my work in any way.

- Don't you think it's a wild situation when the goalkeeper puts some conditions before the arrival? Imagine, you will also say, I will come to the national team if they guarantee me a place in the first team and in general I have to be on the ice all the time.
– Igor Shesterkin and I weren’t hurt by this in any way. We know very well that in such serious tournaments as the World Cup, the bet is on one goalkeeper. It's stupid to be offended by it.

- Well, what to do? Walk around Cologne and eat buns like I did?
- Waiting for a chance. And if given the opportunity, then play in such a way that you are not ashamed. I went to the game against Italy and was happy.

- You could tell the coach: "If you have Vasilevsky, then why do you need me?" Let him play.
I don't even know what would have to happen for me to say that.

- Everyone then knew that Vasilevsky would not come to the Olympics. It turns out that you and Shesterkin are going to Korea without the experience of major tournaments.
- Nothing. Listen, what do you do now? Anyway, if I get a chance to go and play, then I have to go to go out to every game and prove it.

IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL IF I HAVE PROGRESS

- One goalkeeper once told me that all this talk "about the experience of international meetings" was invented by journalists. The goalkeeper has other criteria.
– And I agree. What difference does it make who you play with? When you get up in the morning, knowing that there will be a match in the evening, you still prepare according to your plan, you still try to approach the match in such a way that you won’t be ashamed of it. And here it doesn’t matter at all who you are playing against - Zvezda (Chekhov), Barys or the Canadian team.

– Yes, what to tune in? Are there only a couple of games in the regular season where you have to give your best?
- It's you in vain. I understand what you're talking about, but this does not apply to goalkeepers at all. Of course, there are such matches when the toes begin to freeze. But this does not affect the preparation for the game. Yes, and in such games it is even more difficult.

- This year he came to CSKA new coach goalkeepers. Everyone praises Konstantin Vlasov, considers him a very strong specialist.
- It's too early to say whether I'm better or worse. Still, some results can be drawn at the end of the season.

– This year you have a strong foreign replacement. You quickly "ate" Victor Fast, and he resigned himself.
- Do not forget that Fast is still an age-old goalkeeper who is used to other conditions. I can’t say that he reconciled, but he hardly felt comfortable. Lars Johansson has a different situation. He has something to prove, something to strive for. He - well done, his chances to use.

- Were you removed from the game unexpectedly?
– There was no such thing. Usually we know who will be on the ice a day before the match.

- Did you have offensive goals this year?
Yes, I can't remember anything. I missed a really funny goal back in Novokuznetsk. The puck bounced in front of me, I tried to beat it off in the air and threw it over myself. I come to the locker room, and the coach says to me: "Well, tennis player."

“Now you don’t get beat up like that.
– I am working on how to play better with a stick.

- When will you score into an empty net?
There must be too many factors to match. Once I had a case when, with the score 3:1 in our favor, the opponent took off the goalkeeper, I got the puck and tried to hit the goal. But he hit exactly on the hook to the attacker. It's good that he ruined the moment.

You are always so calm. How can you be pissed off?
- Not on ice. Yes, I'm really calm, but I can remember a couple of cases when I really lost my temper. And all of them are related to the time when I was driving a car. You have no idea how many crazy people drive around the city.

- I represent.
- Somehow I leave the stadium. There is also not a very convenient exit, in general, I ask one car to let me through, but that driver blocks my passage. And neither he can go anywhere, nor I.

Did you come out and get into a fight?
- What is it. They sat in cars and barked at each other.

Did you end up giving up?
- No he. But there was no other way out.

- And the second time?
- I washed the car, I go out into the street satisfied. And next to me is a snowdrift of dirty snow, or rather slurry. And as soon as I leave, as some kind of SUV rushes past and the whole side is smeared again. Chased after him.

- Got it?
- Yeah, Vladimir Zharkov was driving. I didn't see the number at first. But these are all trifles, and I don’t remember that something really pissed me off.

Honored Master of Sports. Champion of the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

Ilya Sorokin was born on August 4, 1995 in the city of Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Region. Soon the family moved to the city of Mezhdurechensk, where the boy spent his childhood. He started skating for the first time at the age of five. In addition to hockey, he was engaged in music and skiing. However, after a few years, there was only enough time for school and hockey. In Mezhdurechensk young hockey player played for the local team "Vympel", and decided on a hockey specialization very early. Sorokin has been a goalkeeper since the age of seven.

In 2009, fourteen-year-old Ilya continued to gain experience in Metallurg Novokuznetsk, and in 2011-2012 he already played in the youth championship of Russia. In the Continental hockey league Sorokin made his debut at the age of seventeen and became the youngest goaltender in the history of the KHL. The first game for Ilya was the match between Metallurg and Barys, which took place in January 2013 in Novokuznetsk. Metallurg was losing: goalkeeper Lazushin conceded seven goals, and in the 36th minute he was replaced by Sorokin.

The young goalkeeper showed a good result for a beginner: before the end of the match, Ilya repelled 14 shots against his team, and conceded only one goal. For the first time, all 60 minutes of the match, Sorokin stood at the gate in a victorious match with Lokomotiv in February 2013. At that time, Metallurg had serious financial difficulties and fans even began to collect money to help their favorite team. Soon, Metallurg had to sell out experienced and strong players, and Ilya became the main goalkeeper.

In the 2013-14 season, the athlete was not the most productive goalkeeper, but it was his experts who named him the best goalkeeper in the continental league. After all, it is easier to be a successful goalkeeper in a strong team than to constantly pull out a weak one because of a “leaky” defense. Ilya with this extremely challenging task dealt with successfully.

In 2014, a talented hockey player moves to the Moscow club CSKA. At first, Sorokin was on the sidelines, but already in the 2015-16 season, the young goalkeeper begins to break records. Ilya had a 163-minute dry streak, then in four matches against SKA he managed to hit 97.84% of shots on goal, and finally set a “reliability record”: he conceded only 28 goals in 20 playoff matches.

In 2016, the commission to determine the best hockey players championship of the Continental Hockey League, based on the analysis of the statistical data of the performances of the players, recognized Ilya Sorokin as the best goalkeeper. The hockey player saved 94.50% of shots on his own goal with a reliability coefficient of 1.33, which was the best indicator of the first round of the playoffs.

Due to such impressive performance, on January 25, 2018, Ilya Sorokin was included in the hockey team to participate in the winter Olympic Games in the city of Pyeongchang. A month later, February 25, 2018 together with the team became the Champion of the Winter Olympic Games.

In 2019, Sorokin won the third bronze medal of the World Championship in Slovakia. I received the previous two from tournaments in Germany and Russia.

Height athlete: 188 cm; weight: 78 kg.

The rise of a 20-year-old boy, who became the youngest winner of the award, really turned out to be dizzying. A year and a half ago, Ilya was the goalkeeper of Metallurg Novokuznetsk, and this season he started at the CSKA farm club. As soon as Sorokin appeared at the base, he immediately issued a “cracker”. As a result, the coaches trusted the young goalkeeper until the end of the season and did not fail.

The award was presented to the goalkeeper by its co-founders, well-known sports philanthropist Alexander Petrov and Olympic champion Alexander Pashkov, along with another legend of Russian hockey, twice Olympian Vyacheslav Starshinov.

After the ceremony, Sorokin told RG about how he worked with a psychologist, why he did not become a musician, and spoke about the most unusual case in his career.

Ilya, sum up the results of such a successful season for you.

Ilya Sorokin: Yes, what can I say. Started at major league. Trained, waited for a chance and got it. Played game after game. He gained experience in the national team at the Eurotour and at the World Cup. We will work further.

You decided on the role of a goalkeeper at the age of seven. Did you decide?

Ilya Sorokin: Hard to say. I remember that I liked to catch everything, all sorts of balls. Yes, and the parents did not mind, the decision was joint.

Being the goalkeeper of Metallurg Novokuznetsk, you turned to a psychologist for help. There was no doubt, we still have a strong stereotype that psychologists are not needed?

Ilya Sorokin: I, on the contrary, liked everything from the first lesson. It was interesting to get to know yourself, to learn to control your mind and actions. It's also training.

How long have you been doing?

Ilya Sorokin: Yes, two years. We are always in touch even now.

Now everyone says that goalkeeper Sorokin has iron nerves. Is it like that in life?

Ilya Sorokin: Vice versa! More often they say: why are you nervous? Especially when I'm driving.

How long ago did you get the right?

Ilya Sorokin: A year and a half ago, back in Novokuznetsk. As I moved to Moscow, for the first two months I was very lost.

Was the move to Moscow difficult?

Ilya Sorokin: At first it was not easy. Then over time I got used to it. I didn’t know anything, there were no parents nearby. Absolutely everything is new, from home life to the locker room. But a person gets used to everything.

First lived on the base?

Ilya Sorokin: First at the base, then at the hotel. Just on next year drove into a rented apartment on Khodynka, 20 minutes walk to the arena.

Isn't one bored?

Ilya Sorokin: And my sister and I live in an apartment. Before that, she lived in Moscow. She moved in with me: it’s more convenient and more fun.

At some point, there was a wave of enthusiasm about your game. How did you deal with it?

Ilya Sorokin: To be honest, I didn't read the news. More precisely, at first I read it, and then I decided that it was not very correct. So now I only read world news. Hockey I try not to read.

There is another opinion, they say, Sorokin is the best, because his defense is the best.

Ilya Sorokin: And I agree. Thanks guys, great help. From the outside, of course, it is more visible, but there are difficulties in terms of the same psychology.

You are no longer in the application for the World Cup. Strongly upset?

Ilya Sorokin: Well no. Only the best should go. There was no breakdown.

You won't go to Toronto, but you've been to the World Championships and worked side by side with Sergei Bobrovsky. What is he?

Ilya Sorokin: When he's on the ice, he's on the ice, thinking only of himself. It's worth learning. And outside the ice, Sergey is always ready to communicate kindly.

Probably one of the most unusual episodes of the tournament took place with your participation, when you replaced Bobrovsky for a couple of minutes in the match against Switzerland. How was it?

Ilya Sorokin: I'm sitting, watching the game, I see Sergey drove up, put down the bottle. But I know that it’s impossible, I think it’s strange that they don’t give two minutes. And what would happen now if I went out on the ice. I turn my head, and there Ilya Petrovich Vorobyov says to me: "Go, get up at the gate!" At first I did not understand, I thought it was a joke ... I quickly warmed up, sniffed ammonia and into the game.

Then the team joked, I guess.

Ilya Sorokin: There were jokes. Like "shifts less often, the same money" (laughs).

We now have some kind of goalkeeper boom: a lot of talent has appeared. Do you have an explanation why this is happening?

Ilya Sorokin: Maybe they just started trusting the young more. It's great that we have such competition. I'm all for it".

Ilya Sorokin: When free time out, why not. It used to be a voracious read. Now I've finished a book on psychology. True, I did not understand anything (laughs). Contact a psychologist and ask questions.

Is it true that when you were a child music school went?

Ilya Sorokin: It was business.

What class did you study?

Ilya Sorokin: Solfeggio, piano... Now I can even play half a piece of one. "To Elise" by Beethoven.

Since then, you have abandoned music, are you no longer developing skills?

Ilya Sorokin: I've tried. This year, at the beginning of the season, I tried to master the guitar. There were no successes, but then there was less time, I began to play more, and somehow it all ended.

Ilya, you are unlikely to argue that few peers receive the same money as you do now. I wonder where at your age you can spend such amounts?

Ilya Sorokin: Honestly, I don't spend money. Let them stay in one place. I pay for housing, for gasoline. Sometimes you want to buy something for the soul as a normal ordinary person. Money is not the main thing now: there is and is - not before me.

Meanwhile

The Continental Hockey League has named the winners for the 2015/2016 season. Sergei Mozyakin (Metallurg Mg) collected the most titles, becoming top scorer, sniper and MVP of the regular season. Ilya Sorokin was recognized as the best goalkeeper, best coach- Dmitry Kvartalnov (CSKA).

Rising star Russian hockey Ilya Sorokin at the age of 17 became the goalkeeper of the Continental Hockey League. In the history of the club - the youngest. At 18, he defended the honor of Metallurg Novokuznetsk, and at 20, the guy was named the best goalkeeper in the KHL. But the athlete's fans are sure that the main achievements of the two-time bronze medalist of the world championship and the silver medalist of the youth world championship are ahead.

Childhood and youth

The future goalkeeper of CSKA was born in the summer of 1995 in the Kemerovo region. The first years of Ilya Sorokin's life passed in Novokuznetsk. Soon the family moved to another city of metallurgists - Mezhdurechensk.

Skate the future KHL player got up as a 5-year-old child. Ilya grew up as a versatile boy - he was fond of hockey and skiing. Parents discovered that their son had a hearing and took him to a music school. He attended solfeggio lessons and mastered the piano.

Soon music lessons were crowned with participation in the city competition of young talents. If the guy continued to improve his piano playing, who knows how fate would have turned - Sorokin even today, in his leisure hours, picks up chords on the instrument from memory.

But as a teenager, Ilya left all his studies for the sake of hockey, success in which inspired him. From the age of 7, the young athlete was put on the gates of the nursery hockey team"Vympel", and since 2009, at the age of 14, they were accepted into the Novokuznetsk club "Metallurg". There was only enough time for training and lessons. Relatives supported Ilya, although there were no athletes in the family: his grandfather was a miner, his father worked at a car depot.

Hockey

The debut of Ilya Sorokin in the Continental Hockey League took place when the young man turned 17. In October 2012, the athlete was put on the gate in his first MHL match. For 2 seasons, the goalkeeper participated in 36 matches and missed 88 goals. The game against the team "Seagull" from Nizhny Novgorod turned out to be triumphant for Ilya Sorokin: the goalkeeper did not miss a single goal.

The first competition of Ilya Sorokin for the Metallurg team took place in early 2013. Athletes from Astana turned out to be opponents of the Novokuznetsk hockey players. In the game with Barys, Metallurg was losing, which caused the replacement of goalkeeper Alexander Lazushin with Sorokin. Ilya went on the ice at the 36th minute and in less than 25 minutes missed only one enemy puck, repelling 15 Kazakh attacks.

Ilya Sorokin lasted the first 60 minutes on the ice in mid-February 2013: Metallurg fought with hockey club Lokomotiv from Yaroslavl. Ilya's club experienced not better times, and hockey fans had to raise money so that Metallurg would not disappear. When all the worst was left behind, the fans of the club presented the promising goalkeeper with new equipment - Ilya grew out of the old one.

At the age of 18, Sorokin faced new challenges: in order to stay afloat, the club sold out the best players replaced by the young and less experienced. Ilya was appointed as the main goalkeeper. Such a responsible assignment crippled the health of the athlete: after the deterioration of the results and a nervous breakdown, the goalkeeper was persuaded to seek help from a psychologist.

Ilya's coach, Nikolai Mishin, then shared with reporters that the goalkeeper's mission in the team of masters is difficult for an adult player, and even more so for a guy who is barely 18. The situation was complicated by the fact that Ilya Sorokin, due to the constant summer training camp, did not rest and did not go through the pre-season games with the club. The foundation, without which it is difficult to pass the championship smoothly, was not laid, which affected the player in early autumn.

Classes with a psychotherapist helped Ilya get out of the dark streak and level the game. Soon Sorokin managed to “pull out” his native Metallurg from the last lines of the KHL rating. And although Ilya Sorokin did not impress with his results during this period, sports experts called him the best goalkeeper in the continental league.

The turning point for Ilya was 2014: the hockey player was called to CSKA. At first, the young goalkeeper was on the sidelines, but the next season he impressed the coach, experts and fans brilliant statistics. A 163-minute dry run and 4 matches against SKA, for which the goalkeeper saved 97.84% of shots, brought the player to the top of the hockey Olympus.

In the niche of the star goalkeeper, Ilya Sorokin entrenched himself by setting a reliability record: in 20 playoff games in the cup, named after him, he could not hit only 28 goals.

In October 2014, the headquarters of the national team called the goalkeeper to the Karjala Cup tournament in Finland. Sorokin's debut for the Russian national team took place in the first decade of November: Czech hockey players opposed the national team. The Russians won with a score of 4:2, the goalkeeper conceded 2 goals. In 2015, Ilya Sorokin became the silver medalist of the 39th World Cup tournament among youth teams, which was held in Canada.

Russian sports experts call Ilya Sorokin the best goalkeeper in the KHL and remember the star of the National Hockey League. But for Ilya, Sergei is more of a friend than a rival. Sorokin learned a lot from his senior colleague. Both hockey players were included in the Russian national team at the 2016 World Cup.

In the same 2016, Ilya Sorokin was determined by a commission that analyzed the statistics of the players' performances as the best goalkeeper. On the official website of CSKA, goalkeeper number 90 repulsed 94.50% of shots on goal for the year. Sorokin's reliability coefficient is a record - 1.33. Ilya's debut at the World Cup in 2016 turned out to be successful: with his help, the national team defeated the Norwegians 3:0.

In 2017, Ilya Sorokin was offered a game in the NHL for the American club New York Islanders, who won the Stanley Cup four times. But after advice from his family, the Russian goalkeeper did not go to Brooklyn, but signed a 3-year contract with CSKA.

Personal life

The goalkeeper from Kuzbass, whose height reaches 1.88 m, was in the Top 7 enviable hockey grooms, compiled by the women's magazine JLady. Ilya Sorokin did not have time to start a family, like his older colleagues, so he remains under the scrutiny of beauties. Whether Ilya's heart is free and whether the famous goalkeeper has a girlfriend is unknown.

Sorokin's name cannot be found in secular news and glamorous tabloids; he has never become the hero of scandals. In his free time from games and training, the CSKA goalkeeper loves to read. The last of the books he read was " Godfather and Martin Eden.

Ilya Sorokin admitted to reporters that since childhood he was fond of aircraft engineering and admired the work of pilots. On his Instagram page there is a photo where Ilya is captured in the cockpit. This is a Boeing flight simulator, where the instrumentation is explained to future pilots or amateurs, and step-by-step processes of takeoff and landing are demonstrated.

Ilya Sorokin now

In December 2017, the athlete became the best goalkeeper of the month Continental League season 2017/2018 according to the indicators provided by the Department of Statistics and Analytics of the KHL Information Bureau. In 2017, the goalkeeper won 5 out of 7 matches. Sorokin's maximum dry series - 125 min. 53 sec.

Ilya Sorokin is in great shape and ready for the Olympic competition. According to him, he closely followed around the Russian Olympic team and with pain perceived the participation of the best Russian athletes at games in Pyeongchang.
