The engine itself can be attached to the frame using conventional steel clamps - this is the simplest and most reliable solution.

The pedals are removed and the kickstarter is placed (Fig. 8, 9). On the assembled engine, the lug of the right half of the crankcase is sawn off with a hacksaw, through which the connecting rod shaft passes. The height of the remaining part of the boss should be 3 mm, and the risk remains on the shaft. Then the engine is disassembled, the halves of the crankcase are separated and the connecting rod shaft is removed, the place of risks is annealed and the "excess" is sawn off. On the lug of the right half of the crankcase, a plug made of a duralumin plate 3 mm thick with a gasket made of a press frame is placed. Then the brake sleeve is cut off and put in place, a groove is made on the connecting rod shaft for the kickstarter spring from the K-125 motorcycle and the engine with the kickstarter is assembled.

The electric engine runs quieter, does not emit harmful exhaust gases into the atmosphere and does not heat up as much as its gasoline counterpart.

In the case of a home-made electric bike, the role of the engine can be played by a car starter, screwdriver, or any other power plants available on the farm.

Along with the electric motor, an important component of the already converted vehicle is the controller (or regulator), the task of which is to accelerate the moped bike under optimal operating conditions of the power plant. To start the movement, a very small current flows from the controller to the motor, due to which the motor starts to rotate smoothly. In a braking situation, the regulator recovers the driving energy in electricity supplying the battery. The battery is practically the same fuel tank, but much more environmentally friendly. It often consists of a matrix and batteries connected to a specific circuit.

The simplest homemade e-bike includes only a motor and a battery. After installing the motor, it can be energized using a conventional switch. However, you should be aware of the impracticality of such an approach, because, having a powerful power plant, starting on such a vehicle is somewhat more difficult, and this can lead to an accident. It is better to use a low-power unit capable of providing a slow start to movement, even if it does not accelerate to serious values.

Step-by-step guide to build

There are quite a few ways to assemble an e-bike, but the easiest way is to connect the drive to the tire. If you had a Soviet-made bicycle, then you probably came across a dynamo to connect a headlight. The same principle is used to connect the electric motor to the wheel. Of course, when using this method, the drive efficiency will be very small, but for testing a vehicle on electric traction, this is quite enough.

The second option, how to make a good electric bike with your own hands, involves installing an additional star on the left side of the wheel and mounting an engine with a star on the trunk. If we connect them with a chain, then we get the simplest chain drive. However, as in the previous version, there will be mechanical losses, and appearance it is not particularly attractive.

Therefore, it makes sense to consider the third and most suitable way of converting an ordinary bicycle into an electric bicycles. It provides for the use of a special motor-wheel, which allows you to get an electric motor for a bicycle with an excellent aesthetic appearance and high efficiency, which will make it possible to create a unique vehicle with your own hands. The motor-wheel differs from a conventional wheel by the presence of a drive mechanism in the central part. It connects to the control unit using wires and allows you to create a front-wheel drive bike, without changing the classic transmission.

If there is a desire and opportunity, you can install two motor wheels at once. The installation process includes the following steps:

1. Mount on the carriage axis new star and a belt pulley;

2. Then the shaft with the drive pulley is attached to the seat tube;

3. The pulleys are connected to each other with a belt, and through the wires the shaft is connected to the power source;

4. The wires from the battery are routed to the steering wheel switch.

Note! The battery is best placed on the lower front tube of the frame or on the trunk.

Summing up all of the above, it should be noted that it is still possible to assemble an electric bike in the “do it yourself” style, but for this you need to find all the necessary parts, spend a little time and nerves. The very operation of such a vehicle should not be accompanied by any difficulties, of course, except for the surprised looks of passers-by, which, however, is rather a compliment to you.

Interesting to know! When boarding a bicycle, most people approach it from the left side, throwing right leg, which is explained by the presence of a chain and a star on the other side. The habit of placing the chain with right side came from horseback riding, as the sword, located at the rider's left thigh, made it difficult to land on the right.
