The 2019 World Cup in Slovakia will begin on May 10 - this is the latest start in the last ten years. Usually even May 5-6 was considered a belated start.
- The late start of the World Cup will allow our team to better prepare for the tournament , - says the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR), Vladislav Tretiak. - Players will have time to recover from the KHL playoffs. From the NHL, where in the new season there will be about forty of our players, many guys will have time to free themselves.
Actually, this is the key difference between the upcoming World Cup and the previous ones. If earlier, by the time the playoffs started at the NHL World Championship, the second round of the Stanley Cup was ending and not everyone had the sense to rush to the national team, now two rounds in the overseas playoffs will finish by the time the 2019 World Cup starts. And during the tournament, hockey players whose NHL teams were eliminated in the semifinals of the Stanley Cup will have time to join him. So only the finalists of the overseas playoffs will remain behind the World Cup.
A similar alignment promises fans a scattering of hockey stars. Ilya Vorobyov can get at his disposal one of best rebounds hockey players in their careers with Evgeni Malkin, Artemy Panarin, Alexander Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov, Sergey Bobrovsky, etc. However, competitors will also become stronger, so for the first time in many years the level of the tournament will correspond to the name “world championship”.

- This is, of course, the last option. Fasel explains. - First of all, we expect to find common ground with the NHL and hope to fill the hockey tournament in Beijing with the strongest players in the world - to make it the same as in the period from 1998 to 2014.
Against this background of uncertainty, the world championships will become the most significant international hockey tournaments in terms of level. The Russian national team will open the nearest of them on May 10 with a game against the Norwegian team, and this meeting, by the way, will be the first for Ilya Vorobyov at the World Cup as a full-fledged head coach of the Russian national team.
It is curious that most of the rivals of the Russians in the group stage of the 2019 World Cup are the same as a year ago: the Austrians with the Czechs in the first half, the Swiss and the Swedes at the finish line. The national teams of Latvia, Italy and Norway made a variety, replacing Slovakia, France and Belarus in the list of opponents.
But Vorobyov's squad is unlikely to collide with the outlandish UK team. The representatives of the United Kingdom, who will return to the elite of world hockey after 25 years, were sent by the IIHF to group A. Slovnaft Arena (Bratislava)

The teams will be divided into groups A and B. Eight of them, including the Russian team, will play group stage matches in Bratislava, and the second group in Kosice.

The 2019 Ice Hockey World Championship is the 83rd edition of the world championship among national ice hockey teams. The upcoming edition will be held from 3 to 19 May 2019 in Slovakia. Which teams will come to the hockey "mundial"? What does the match calendar look like? Who claims the title? And what can the Russian team hope for? We are gaining patience. There is very little left until the X hour!
Where and when will the Ice Hockey World Championship 2019 take place
The hockey tournament will traditionally take place in the last month of spring. Hockey players will compete for the awards of the 83rd edition of the World Cup from May 3 to May 19, 2019.
Slovakia will host the 2019 Ice Hockey World Cup. Ice battles will take place in Bratislava and Kosice. For the tiny Eastern European state, this is just the second World Cup. The Slovaks hosted the tournament in 2011.
Elections for the host country were held in 2015. Switzerland also claimed to be the host country. But in the end, representatives of the Alpine country withdrew their application. The Swiss will get the right to host the 2020 World Cup.
Spectators will be able to watch matches of the 2019 IIHF World Championship at the Slonaft Arena and Steel Arena sports complexes.
Slovnaft Arena (Bratislava)
One of the oldest sports complexes in Slovenia. It was opened back in 1940. Since then, the arena has undergone reconstruction more than once. The last of these made it possible to increase the capacity to almost 14,000 seats.
This is the central SC of the championship. It will host the 2019 Ice Hockey World Championship Final.
Steel Arena (Kosice)
A multifunctional sports and entertainment complex that can accommodate up to 9,000 spectators. Unlike the Bratislava arena, the Steel Aréna is relatively new. It was opened in 2006.

Czech Republic in last years brings rather weak teams to the World Championship, and the Finns are simply pathologically unlucky.
Separately, it must be said about the Slovaks. "Mundial" will be held in their native walls. Therefore, hockey players in Slovakia will be super-motivated. In 2011, the Slovaks already played at the home World Cup. However, despite the frenzied support of their native stands, they could not even qualify for the playoffs. But the "Knights of the Tatra" was remembered for the victory at the 2002 World Cup, the silver of the World Championship of the sample of 2000 and 2012.

The Russian national team at the 2019 World Hockey Championship will be one of the leaders. The strength of the roster and the results of performances in previous editions of the World Championship speak in favor of the Russians. Will the domestic squad justify the hopes placed on it ?!
On May 15, 2015, at the IIHF Congress, it was decided that the Ice Hockey World Championship - 2019 will be held in Slovakia, in the cities of Bratislava and Kosice. The dates for the tournament have been moved. If the 2018 World Cup was held from May 4 to May 20, then it starts on May 10 and ends on May 26.
Slovakia competed with Switzerland for the right to host the World Cup, but before the final vote, the Swiss withdrew their application and eventually hosted the 2020 World Cup.
Arenas
Prior to that, Slovakia hosted the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2011. Then the matches were also held in Bratislava and Kosice. The main arena will be the Bratislava Orange Arena, which can accommodate 10,000 spectators and is home arena Slovan playing in the KHL. In Kosice, matches will be played at the Steel Arena (8300 spectators), which is the home ground of the Kosice club.

The first match in the group will be held on May 10, the teams of Canada and Finland will play in it, and in the evening the hosts, the Slovakian team, will play against the US team. The Canada vs USA match will take place on May 21st.
For the first time in 24 years, the UK team will play in the elite division of the World Cup. She will play her first match in the tournament against the German team on May 11.

The Russian national team was in the same group with the finalists of the 2018 World Cup - the teams of Sweden and Switzerland. Compared to the last World Championship in Slovakia, the rivals of our team group stage will mostly be the same - Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria. Only the teams from the “lower” half of the group have changed – instead of Belarus, France and Slovakia, we got Norway, Latvia and Italy.
On the first game day in Bratislava there will be two matches: Russia - Norway and the Czech Republic - Sweden.
