World Cup hockey schedule match results. Schedule of matches of the group stage with the participation of Russia

On Sunday, May 21, 2017, the World Ice Hockey Championship ended in Germany and France. The national teams of Sweden and Canada met in the final match for the title of world champion.

The match turned out to be tense and not very effective. The Swedes opened the score at the end of the second period. Accurate shot by Tampa Bay defender Victor Hedman. The response from the Canadians came pretty quickly. At the very beginning of the third period, Ryan O'Reilly returned the score with a pass from Mitchell Marner. The rest of the period and the 20-minute overtime passed without any goals scored.

Everything was decided in a series of post-match shootouts, where the Swedes were quicker. Winning bullet on the account of the Swedish striker Washington Capitals - Niklas Beckström. Sweden wins the gold medals of the World Ice Hockey Championship for the tenth time in its history!

Best goalkeeper - Andrey Vasilevsky (Russia)

The Ice Hockey World Championship is undoubtedly one of the most popular spring events in the global sports family. Every year the best national teams gather to measure their strength on the ice, and all the attention of the TV cameras is riveted on the players, mentors and judges in striped uniforms. Hockey is always a tough and at times brutal men's fight, it is one of the fastest sports, passions on the court sometimes boil so that the referees have to separate the players. The world championship is famous for its high competition, because at each tournament five or six teams compete for victory.

The next championship can bring many surprises and, probably, one hammered puck will deprive the fate of the trophy.

Where the Ice Hockey World Championship will take place

The next hockey tournament will take place in the German city of Cologne and the well-known wonderful city of Paris. The application of France and Germany looked more preferable than the joint candidacy of the Danes and Latvians. The IIHF's 18-vote lead was confirmed in May 2013. Copenhagen and Riga were forced to capitulate when it became known that the French and German sides decided to join forces. Germany has taken the championship for the eighth time, France for the fourth. The playgrounds for the championship will be Cologne's Lanxess Arena and Parisian AccorHotels Arena. Each of the cities will receive one group.

About sports facilities

"Accommodates 18,500 spectators, the name is from the sponsors of the chemical production of the same name. It hosts not only hockey matches, but also handball fights, boxing battles and even eSports competitions.

"Is a colorful complex where, in addition to sports, concerts are also held. This miracle of architecture accommodates 17,000 people. An interesting fact - the first concert that took place here was the performance of the Scorpions.

2017 Ice Hockey World Cup Calendar

At the moment, there is no exact schedule for the 2017 World Championship, but the competition regulations have long been known. The teams will be divided into two groups, each with 8 teams. They will play their matches in a circle, in total there will be seven fights in the group stage. The best four teams advance to the quarterfinals according to the principle: the first against the fourth, the second against the third of the “ice squad”.

The two teams that took the last places will change their registration and go to the lower division. Only the Danish national team is not threatened, since the next forum will be held there. The quarterfinals are followed by two semifinal fights, their winners will fight for the title of the strongest team.

The ½ final losers will play in the consolation final for the bronze medals.

Group A(Cologne) will look like this:

  • Germany;
  • Russia;
  • Sweden;
  • Slovakia;
  • Latvia;
  • Italy;
  • Denmark.

IN group B(Paris) will measure their strength:

  • Canada;
  • Finland;
  • Czech Republic;
  • Switzerland;
  • France;
  • Belarus;
  • Norway;
  • Slovenia.

For those who do not know or have forgotten, a hockey match lasts 60 minutes. We recall the phrase from the famous song: "a great five and a goalkeeper." On the ice, as a rule, there are two defenders, three forwards (two of them are extreme, one plays in the center) and a goalkeeper. For gross violations, players will be sent off due to a two-minute penalty. Teams play three periods of twenty minutes, in case of not determining the best during this time, the lucky one will be determined in a five-minute overtime. If it ends in a draw, then a series of shootouts will await us. Shootouts are an analogue of a football penalty shootout.

In the playoffs, fans will not see such a luxury, since the opponents will play a 20-minute OT, if the strongest is not determined in regular time, OT will be held until someone scores the long-awaited puck.

Applicants

At the World Ice Hockey Championship, we will face a confrontation between sixteen top teams:

  • Germany

Let's start our acquaintance with the owners - "German Bundesteam". The team will be coached by the previously famous hockey player Marko Sturm. Germany is one of the most experienced national teams of the Old World, in the world ranking the Germans are thirteenth. At the world championships, the team was in prizes twice, back in 1932, and also in 1976. Their most recent achievement is the 4th place at the home tournament in 2010, at the same time the attendance record at the championship was set, 77 803 people were present in the duel against the USA in Gelsenkirchen.

The main stars of the team will be players from the National Hockey League: goalkeeper - Thomas Gray (Islanders), defenders Corbian Holzer (Arizona) and Christian Erhoff (Chicago), as well as team captain Marcel Gotz. As you can see, seven years later after a successful performance, the Germans again return to the "home walls".

  • Russia

The group rival for the Germans will be one of the main "contenders" for success - the Russian national team. The Russians won the main trophy 5 times, took silver and bronze medals three times. In the ranking, the team is in second place, in 2016 the "red car" won bronze, beating the Americans, but this cannot be called a great success, since the tournament was held for the Russians in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Head coach Oleg Znarka has a huge number of star performers at his disposal, including the goalkeepers of Columbus and Colorado Alexander Vishnevsky and Semyon Varlamov and some of the best attacking teams in the NHL: Alexander Ovechkin (Washington), Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh) and Vladimir Tarasenko (St. Louis). Fans are always demanding of the national team and in 2017 they expect a repeat of the success of 2014, when the team triumphed.

American hockey players will compete with the Russians in the group stage. The Americans managed to win the tournament only twice in their long history. The last success dates back to 1960. The guys of John Haynes have not taken the championship awards for a long time, the last time it happened in 2010, so we are sure that the United States will be hungry for victories at the upcoming World Cup. It is worth taking a close look at Patrick Kane, Zach Pariset, Corey Schneider and top goalkeeper of the Los Angeles Kings, Jonathan Quick.

  • Sweden

The Swedish national team has made it to the Ice Hockey World Championship 67 times. The Swedes are nine-time winners of this tournament, "Tre Krunur" (from the Swedish - three crowns) won in 2013 in Stockholm. Sweden is one of the most famous teams, in the ranking they are in third position. The team includes such stars as: Niklas Backström, Henrik Sedin, Nicholas Krunval and the legendary "masked man" Henrik Lundqvist ".

  • Canada

All analysts and hockey fans will call the Canadian team the clear favorite of Group B, as well as the championship. Maple Leaves took the trophy away from Russia in 2016 and will probably not want to cheat on themselves in 2017 either. In Canada, hockey is the number one sport and the most legendary players Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux were honored to perpetuate their game numbers, which means that no one else will wear red and white colors with numbers 99 and 66. By the way, only 1976 for Canadians professionals started playing. It's scary to imagine how many titles they would have won if they had done so before. The team can send a lot of stars to Germany: Sidney Crosby, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Jonathan Tavs and many others. It is not for nothing that many experts argue that Canada can use two equivalent formulations at any time without any problems.

  • Finland

Another favorite of the tournament is Suomi. The Finns played in the finals in 2016 and have one of the most promising and promising lineups in the world. This year the Finnish team defeated the Swedes in the final of the Junior World Championship. Hockey schools, as well as the well-developed Finnish league, greatly contribute to the progress of the country's youth hockey. Finland is a two-time world champion (1995,2011), 1% of the country's population are professional hockey players. In the national team, it is worth highlighting the most experienced Miko Koivu and the "collar" Niklas Bekström, both hockey players play overseas. Also the left forward Mikael Granlund carries a high danger. Underestimation of the Finns can ruin many teams, because Suomi are famous for their hot character and intransigence.

  • Czech Republic

Next, let's talk about the Czech team. The Czech Republic became the champion six times. Having changed the coach, who brought the triumph of 2010 Vladimir Ruzicka to Vladimir Vuytek, the Czechs' game pattern changed little, but they could not pass the quarterfinal stage, having stumbled on the Americans. Now with the star performers, the Czechs have a calm, but due to the team spirit, this team is capable of a lot.

  • France

Another host of the future forum is the French national team, which lacks stars from the sky. Hockey is not in the first place for the French and, perhaps, the holding of competitions of this level will affect the development of this beautiful winter sport. "Le Bleus" (from French - blue) constantly balances on the edge of the top division and the lower one, so their main task will be to maintain a residence permit and it is very important to do this in "native land".

If there are no sensations, then the national teams of Slovakia and Switzerland will be strong middle peasants and "drink the blood" of the leaders, the national teams of Latvia, Belarus, Italy, Slovenia, Norway will most likely try to fulfill local tasks and stay in the top division. The Danes, as mentioned earlier, will not leave the elite.

World Youth Championship

Many interesting events will take place at the 2017 World Youth Championship, and it is no secret that the talents who have successfully played on it will be included in the main national team. The tournament will take place in Montreal and Toronto, Canada. It will start on December 26 and will end on January 5 of the next year. Finnish hockey players who beat their peers with Russia became world champions in 2016. Participation in the tournament in Canada will be taken by:

  • Canada;
  • Finland;
  • Sweden;
  • Russia;
  • Czech Republic;
  • Slovakia;
  • Switzerland;
  • Latvia;
  • Denmark.

Several significant events took place at the 2016 championship. For example, the young star of the Finnish team, Patrick Laine, was one of the best players in the youth team, and then got into the symbolic team of the adult tournament. Swedish goalkeeper Linus Södrström, American defender Zak Verensky, Finns Olli Juolevi, Esse Pulyujärvi and US forward Austin Matthews also performed well in the youth tournament. It can be noted with confidence that the brightest personalities in the winter championship under 20 will appear on the ice of Cologne and Paris.

Well, we went through the most important aspects on the eve of the hockey holiday. It will be a fantastic sight when the strongest masters of the “ice show” will take to the ice, millions holding their breath, will wait for the puck from their favorite team.

The rival of the Russian national ice hockey team in the match for the bronze of the World Cup has become known

Hockey players of the Swedish national team beat Finland in the semifinal match of the 2017 World Cup and made it to the final of the competition, where they will play with the Canadians.

The meeting, which took place on Saturday in Cologne, ended with a score of 4: 1 (1: 1, 2: 0, 1: 0) in favor of the Swedish national team. The winners were scored by Alexander Edler (2nd minute), Jon Klingberg (25), William Nylander (35) and Joakim Nordström (54). For the Finns, the puck was scored by Jonas Kempainen (5).

The Swedish national team will play with the Canadian team in the final match, which will be held on Sunday, May 21, in Cologne and will start at 21:45 Moscow time. For the first time in the history of world hockey championships, the two countries will jointly host the tournament

Head coach of the Russian hockey team Oleg Znarok (foreground right) during an open training session

The Ice Hockey World Championship starts on Friday in Germany and France, the tournament will be hosted by Paris and Cologne.

For the first time in the history of world hockey championships, the two countries will jointly host the tournament. Moreover, the Germans have quite a lot of experience in holding it - they hosted the championship eight times, seven of which as a full-fledged host. The previous tournament in Germany was in 2010, when the matches were held in Cologne, Mannheim and Gelsenkirchen.

France has hosted the competition only four times, including the second in a row in 1930. Officially, it is believed that the last world championship in this country was held in Grenoble in 1968, then it was held as part of the men's Olympic tournament.

Tournament in memory of Müller

The current world championship will be held in two arenas, which, although they were built a long time ago, cannot be called out of date. The Cologne Lanxess Arena, which is capable of hosting all kinds of mass events, was opened in 1998 and can accommodate 18.5 thousand people at hockey games. The palace is the largest hockey arena in the world outside of North America.

The Parisian AccorHotels Arena, better known as the Bercy Sports Palace, was built in 1984 and renovated in 2015. The arena will host major ice hockey competitions for the first time. Previously, it hosted, for example, the Davis Cup tennis final, two Final Fours of the European Club Basketball Championship and the Final Four of the Euroleague basketball, and carting competitions. The palace can accommodate 14.5 thousand people for hockey events.

The logo of the tournament is notable. It shows the silhouette of German goalkeeper Robert Müller, who died in May 2009 of a brain tumor at the age of 28. In this regard, the German Hockey League permanently assigned him the 80th number, under which Müller played.

Cologne and Paris will host the preliminary stage matches of both groups, as well as two quarterfinal games each. After that, the main events will unfold in Cologne, where the semi-finals, the match for the third place and the final will be played. The Russian national team will play in Group A with the hosts of the competition, as well as teams from Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Slovakia, Latvia and the USA.

It is already known that there are practically no tickets left for the first match of the Russians on May 5 with the Swedes, all tickets have been sold for the game on May 8 Germany - Russia. About 1,000 tickets remained for the final match of the Russian national team with the Americans. This demand is associated with a large domestic diaspora in Germany.

For domestic teams, Germany should be called a successful place in terms of performances at the world championships. The USSR national team won tournaments that were then held in Germany (1975, 1983), and the Russian team won its first gold in Munich in 1993. In 2010, the Russians reached the final, which was then also held in Cologne.

Waiting for the landing from "Washington"

The Russians announced 22 players for the tournament, which was announced on Wednesday by coach Harijs Vitolins - three goalkeepers, seven defenders and 12 forwards. 28 players arrived in Cologne, of which three could not train according to the regulations of the International Ice Hockey Federation - on the ice during a lesson there can be, at most, only 25 hockey players.

On Thursday, it became known that the coaching staff decided not to include defender Alexei Bereglazov, as well as forwards Kirill Kaprizov and Andrei Svetlakov, in the application. Later it became known that defender Mikhail Naumenkov, as well as strikers Valery Nichushkin and Roman Lyubimov, who spent this season at the Philadelphia club of the National Hockey League (NHL), were not included in the application.

The leadership of the national team left three vacancies for the landing from the NHL, hoping that someone would be released after the end of the match in the second round of the Stanley Cup "Washington" - "Pittsburgh", where several Russians play, including the captain of "Washington" Alexander Ovechkin. Loses to Nashville and St. Louis, where Vladimir Tarasenko, one of the best domestic scorers, is playing.

Mozyakin will remember silver Cologne

The average age of the current Russian national team is 25 years. In the attack, hopes are pinned on the best sniper of the NHL club "Tampa Bay" and the third sniper of the regular season this season Nikita Kucherov, who is to play for the first time in the world championship - for the national team before that he played only at last year's World Cup, like his partner in Tampa Vladislav Namestnikov. Together with them, SKA striker Nikita Gusev, who began his hockey career with Kucherov in the same hockey school, is playing on the same link.

The bet is also placed on one more link, in which a bunch of Vadim Shipachev and Evgeny Dadonov are acting - both won the Kontinental Hockey League's Gagarin Cup last season. Together with them, the forward of the NHL "Chicago" club Artemy Panarin, who, before leaving for the NHL, played with Shipachev and Dadonov in SKA, also plays.

I took head coach Oleg Znarok and defender Ivan Provorov into the national team, who turned 20 this year only, but he has already become the main defender of Philadelphia and will also make his debut at the World Championship. The first number among goalkeepers will be Tampa goalkeeper Andrey Vasilevsky.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk were expected to perform at the World Championship. However, both St. Petersburg army men were pursued by injuries. Datsyuk missed the last two rounds of the Gagarin Cup - the semifinals and the final, while Kovalchuk played the playoffs with injury and flew to Germany for an operation.

Only its captain Sergei Mozyakin can be called a veteran of the team, for whom this season is rightfully memorable. The forward of Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the season set a number of performance records, becoming the best domestic sniper and gaining 1000 points first in domestic hockey. Mozyakin could not become a three-time winner of the Gagarin Cup this year, but he has a chance to win the third gold of the world championships in his career. In 2010, Mozyakin became a silver medalist, he is the only one of the current squad to play at that tournament.

The current world champion team of Canada will begin to defend their title in Paris, where they will play in Group B with the hosts, as well as rivals from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belarus, Switzerland, Norway and Finland. The Canadians are headed by the head coach of the Tampa Bay club, John Cooper. In each line, the maple leaves have those who won the world championship last year in Moscow.

French searches

The tournament in Paris and Germany has not yet begun, and it has not been without a scandal. The Belarusian team, which came to Paris from Bordeaux, where the Euro-challenge match was played, was searched by the local police. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the French ambassador to get an explanation, and then protested. As for the hockey authorities, the organizing committee of the French part of the World Championship apologized to the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus, and the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation Rene Fasel attended the training session of the Belarusian team and also apologized.

“You know it can be related to both security and anti-doping matters. We are trying to get an answer from the French side, - Fazel told TASS. - Of course, this is not an option when this is arranged right at the station in public. We are trying to find the reason why this happened, we hope that this will not happen again. "

Russia - Czech Republic: match review of 18 May 2017

In fact, the whole game was made in the first period. The Czechs started the match actively, trying to press the Russians in their own penalty area, provoking them to break the rules. And at first they managed to do it - Andronov left our team in the minority already in the 3rd minute, but the opponent did not manage to take advantage of the chance.

Soon our hockey players leveled the game and already in the 9th minute Orlov grabbed the puck in a foreign zone and with a masterful throw threw it into the lower right corner of the goalkeeper.

Six minutes later, Kuznetsov, after a magnificent pass, made a targeted pass at Kucherov, and he shot the goalkeeper with an accurate throw into the near nine.

The fans had to wait almost 40 minutes for the third and final goal. Artemy Panarin used Belov's precision transmission and went one-on-one, did not miss his chance.

3: 0 - the confident victory of the Russians leads them to the semifinals of the World Championship, which will be held on May 20 in Cologne.

On Friday, May 5, the 81st Ice Hockey World Championship - 2017 starts. Russia - in the status of the leading hockey power - will traditionally fight only for the gold trophy.

The 81st Ice Hockey World Championship 2017 will take place in Germany and France. The tournament starts on May 5 and ends on the 21st with the final in Cologne. This tournament will be the third to be held simultaneously in two countries. The World Championship Games will be held in Paris and Cologne. We will tell you in more detail in which arenas and where the 2017 Ice Hockey World Championship will take place.

Why in two countries

Initially, France and Germany applied for the 2017 World Hockey Championship separately. However, in 2012 it was decided to join forces and hold a common tournament. Such a joint application from France and Germany was able, for a clear advantage, to outstrip the double application of Latvia and Denmark. The advantage of Germany and France was the already existing infrastructure, while in Latvia and Denmark it was necessary to carry out a hasty reconstruction of ice arenas.

Germany has hosted the world ice hockey championships seven times. The last time Germany hosted the championship was in 2010. France has hosted four major tournaments, but the last time the championship is held in 1968. All games are planned to be held in Cologne at the Lanxess Arena and in Paris at the AccorHotels Arena. The capacity of these modern hockey stadiums is 18.5 thousand and 17 thousand, respectively. It was originally planned to hold the games in the Paris Bercy arena, which has a capacity of 15 thousand spectators. However, later it was decided to move the games to the AccorHotels Arena.

The organizers note that more than half of the tickets have already been sold, so there will be no problems with the occupancy of the stands. Taking into account the capacity of the ice arenas, it can be argued that the 2017 championship will become a record number of fans attending the championship games. According to the organizers of the tournament, its holding in France will significantly increase the interest in hockey in this country.

Championship regulations

In accordance with the regulations of the tournament, 16 teams will take part in it, which will be divided into 2 groups. The games will take place in a circle, after which the first four teams will advance to the playoffs. The distribution of teams in the playoffs is standard - the winner of Group A plays with the fourth team of Group B. Teams that will take the last eighth place in their groups are directly relegated to the first division. We only note that in 2018 the championship is scheduled to be held in Denmark, so if the national team of this country takes the last place in the group, then the team from the 7th place of this group will fly to the lower division.

In Cologne, in accordance with the approved schedule of the 2017 IIHF World Championship, 34 games will be held. This city will host Group A matches, two quarterfinals and semi-finals, as well as a final and a game for third place. Paris will host 30 games, including two quarterfinals. The organizers promise to space the start of the games in two cities in time, which will significantly increase the TV audience of the championship. The division into groups is carried out taking into account the current IIHF rating.

In 2016, the championship was held in Russia in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The world championship was confidently won by Canada, having dealt with Finland in the final match. The third place was taken by the Russian national team, which beat the USA in the consolation final. In the 2017 championship, the main contenders for the title will also be the Canadians and the Finnish national team.
