The men's sprint at the Biathlon World Cup in Pokljuka ended in victory. The Russian took third place.

Fast and accurate

The hope that this race could be successful for the Russians appeared after the successful start of Evgeny Garanichev. He started fourth and went very well until the only miss on the standing. But one uncovered target cost him dearly in conditions when many were shooting accurately.

Entering the distance later, under number 45, Loginov walked with Garanichev in one leg, but he shot accurately, and on both lines. On the stand, he also worked very quickly - in 21 seconds, faster than all his rivals. The Russian left the shooting range second - 20 seconds away from the incredibly fast Johannes Be in this sprint and with a tiny - two and three tenths - advantage over the Frenchman Antoine Guigonne and the bronze medalist of the individual Austrian Simon Eder.

The new ward of Rico Gross, who led the Austrian national team in the summer, lagged behind during the finishing circle, and with the Frenchman Loginov hacked to death in absentia, and seriously. According to Guigonne's lag on the control cutoffs, it seemed that he was blown away - 700 meters before the finish line, the Russian, who was walking behind and receiving all the necessary information, won 5 seconds over his opponent, but in the end Alexander lost three tenths at the finish line. It's a shame. But the fact that the Russians still got on the podium at the very first stage of the World Cup is comforting.

Apparently I was more tired. I tried to work and give all my best. But, judging by the fact that he lost four tenths, it means that something was wrong, - Loginov said immediately after the finish in a flash interview

Nine misses for three

Best in Russian team in the previous individual race- Dmitry Malyshko and Matvey Eliseev - did not cope with the first shooting. Eliseev missed twice on prone, and Malyshko already missed three. It is clear that after that the race failed for both of them. Although at the stand both Matvey and Dmitry worked accurately and even shared the third place in the team in terms of speed with each other. Both attributed their shooting failure to an awkward approach.

I think this is because of the sprint and jerky approach. I wanted to quickly, but I had to go at my own pace. For all the misses, the dimensions did not close. Now there is no wind, and it's a shame that it happened so. But we will fight further, - promised Malyshko.

Later, Malyshko's "feat" was repeated by his fellow countryman Aleksey Slepov, who was one of the last to start. He also missed prone three times. He later added a counter error to this. As a result, neither Malyshko nor Slepov got into the pursuit race.

Loser Fourcade

The sprint of the seven-time winner of the Bolshoi crystal globe Martin Fourcade. After the individual race, where he got it wrong with the starting group, he made his way along a broken track, but won the victory thanks to exceptionally clean shooting, obviously, his strength was over.

The Frenchman failed to shoot without mistakes in the sprint - he missed once on prone. But this is not so bad. Fourcade's move was unconvincing. In terms of speed on the track, he was located only at the end of the fourth decade, losing to Johannes Be 1 minute 11 seconds. Martin finished only 24th.

Boe, who took seventh place in the individual, was simply unstoppable. Even with one miss, he brought the closest pursuers 16 seconds each. In a clean move, the Norwegian was ahead of everyone by almost 20. After this sprint, he will intercept the yellow jersey of the leader of the World Cup from Fourcade. The rivalry has begun.

At the next stage of the World Cup in Hochfilzen on 14.12 new race this time it was men's sprint where our guys showed poor results. In this article you can see a video of the race, get acquainted with medal standings and events on the track that day.

This sprint was preceded by both good and bad news. So, for example, in the women's sprint for the first time in two years, our women took a medal, and Yurlova did it. In addition, it is worth noting the "raid" of the Austrian police on the base of the Russians and the presentation of accusations of doping more than a year ago right there at the World Championships. One of these days there will be a decision, but they say that this does not threaten biathletes with disqualification. In any case, it was unpleasant and did not have a very good effect on the psychology of the athletes.

Results men's sprint 14.12 men's biathlon race summary

Unfortunately, our athletes did not win medals, and the most best result was with Loginov, who made mistakes in shooting, but was good on the move. And the rest of the guys were shooting well, but as usual they showed a weak move. Ours started under such numbers.

  • Evgeny Garanichev 3rd
  • Alexander Loginov 34th
  • Dmitry Malyshko 37th
  • Matvey Eliseev 64th
  • Alexey Slepov 76th
  • Eduard Latypov 89th.

The leaders of the race, who eventually fought for medals, started 21st Be and 44th Frenchman Fourcade.
As a result, our athletes took the following places:

  • Alexander Loginov - 8th (1 + 0)
  • Matvey Eliseev - 19th (2 + 0)
  • Evgeny Garanichev - 52nd (2 + 0)
  • Alexey Slepov - 57th (1 + 0)
  • Dmitry Malyshko - 58th (2 + 1)
  • Eduard Latypov - 79th (2 + 1).

It is worth mentioning how the struggle between the leaders took place. Before the Frenchman, a Norwegian entered the track and immediately began to show excellent footwork, and he shot perfectly. It was evident that he was not very fresh and after the finish he lay for a long time, coming to his senses. Later he was started by a Frenchman.

As you know, for recent times a lot of bad things happened to Martin, it includes diseases and not the best state of health. In one of the last races, he showed worst result over the past couple of years. But still, many hoped that he would give a fight to the Norwegian, but after the first mark it became clear that he was inferior in speed to his opponent, who was the fastest today.

As a result, despite good shooting and speed, he still lost to the Norwegian, although it was less than seconds, and the third was the German Doll. The three winners looked like this:

  1. Johannes Boe
  2. Martin Fourcade
  3. Benedict Doll

World Cup 2018-2019 Hochfilzen latest news

At the same time, the trial continues over the accusations of Russian biathlon doping in Austria more than a year ago at the World Cup.

Austrian law enforcement agencies brought charges of violating anti-doping rules during the 2017 World Cup in Hochfilzen to coach Alexander Kasperovich, biathletes Evgeny Garanichev, Alexander Loginov, Anton Shipulin, Alexey Volkov and Irina Starykh, as well as doctors and masseurs of the national team Artyomuk Evgeny Shutov and Dmitry Topychkanov.

The head of the SBR, Vladimir Drachev, has already arrived in Austria, and the head of the IBU is to appear soon, who was treated after a broken leg. Everyone is wondering what steps the IBU will take. You can expect anything. Not a single Russian athlete has ever been to the Austrian police station, as a good lawyer and translator is needed.

Former coach of the Russian national team Ricco Gross, in personal conversations, is perplexed by the whole situation, says that the accusations against Russian biathletes- complete nonsense. It was Gross who worked closely with Loginov and Garanichev at the 2017 World Championship. But there is only Alexander Kasperovich on the list. On camera, he cannot say this, since now he is the head of the Austrian national team, "the Match TV website quotes Guberniev.

Two gold in relay races and one victory in the men's sprint - such results were brought to the Russian team by the World Cup stage in Oberhof, Germany, which became the most successful top-level biathlon start for our country for last years... It turns out that biathlon can give our fans not only disappointment, but also joy and even pride.

All students know that if you scold a person during the exam, he will definitely get lucky. In recent years, no number of critical words have been spoken about Russian biathlon- about the opaque selection system, about the inability to gain the best shape for the main starts, and of course - about doping. Literally in Oberhof and demanded from a public apology for the doping past. And at that moment, the student omen finally worked.

1.Russia(Evgenia Pavlova, Margarita Vasilyeva, Larisa Kuklina, Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht) - 1: 18.46.3 (0 pcs. Circles + 8 extra cartridges)
2. Germany(Caroline Horchler, Franziska Hildebrand, Franziska Preuss, Denise Hermann) - 33.5 backlog (2 + 10)
3. Czech Republic(Lucia Harvatova, Veronika Vitkova, Marketa Davidova, Eva Puskarchikova) - 36.7 (1 + 6)

The current breakthrough in the results can be considered both the result of a change of power in the Russian Biathlon Union, and the result of the new selection system for the national team, and even just a fortunate coincidence. After all, both relay races in Oberhof took place in difficult weather conditions, and many of our rivals were simply unlucky. After all, so far the Russians have won only the first stage of the World Cup after the New Year's break, and not the World Cup or the Olympics. The coming weeks will show how serious our claims to leadership are.

The pendulum can still swing in any direction. But what is already certain - the Russian national team realized that it was able to catch the victorious courage. And if haters are a part of this courage, then we can only regret that the star of the Czech national team, who cheered us up all last season, retired so early. Now this work is done only by men. And after the grandiose stage in Oberhof, you can only ask for one thing. Dear Martin, Johannes and Sebastian, please do not stop, we expect even tougher criticism from you.

ONLINE OF THE DAY

19:10. German journalists so surrounded the winner of the race - Benedict Doll that you can't even see it. I would like to believe that in the next races someone from the Russian biathletes will be so stuck. It is with this hope that we conclude today's live, but we do not say goodbye for a long time. Very soon in the "Championship" group "Vkontakte" our daily program will summarize the day. Do not miss! And tomorrow we will have two races at once: male and female pursuits. Let's cheer for ours together!

19:05. The winners of the sprint also shared their emotions. Johannes Boe: “I left the stadium as the leader, but lost a split second. The odds were 50-50, but I was out of luck. I am upset, although I spent good race and fought on the last loop. Now I want to go back to the hotel, eat and recover. Many athletes will follow me tomorrow, and it will not be easy to get back on the podium.

Martin Fourcade: When I crossed the finish line, I was counting on getting into the top ten, then I thought that I could be in the top five, but it turned out to win a bronze medal. Two penalties are too many to fight for a win, so I'm glad I won a medal. I thought that there would be no medal at all, so I am satisfied with today's bronze ”.

19:00. Doll, of course, was delighted at the press conference: “An amazing moment for me has come today. It was a very exciting race. Before the start I saw that Martin was shooting 1 + 1 and I have a chance. It was incredible to win the first race and go straight to the World Championship. The whole season I had problems with shooting, but at zeroing, especially in standing shooting, I felt confident and realized that I had to try to win. At the “stand” when I hit the last shot, I realized that I could become the world champion. It was one of best moments in my career. "

18:20. Better speed showed at the distance today Martin Fourcade, Further - Eberhard, Doll and Byo Jr.. Shipulin- tenth (+30.0), Garanichev- 14th (+40.4).

18:10. The positions of the Russians, given the upcoming pursuit race, are not impressive. Garanichev- 10th (+45.1), Shipulin- 21st (+1.14.7), Babikov- 49th (+1.49.0). Tsvetkov turned out to be only 69th.

18:00. The enchanting denouement of the race followed: Johannes Boe only 0.7 seconds behind Dolly! The German became the world champion for the first time in his career. The Norwegian has silver, Fourcade- bronze.

17:55. And here is the long-awaited news! Shipulin and Fourcade greeted and hugged in the mixed zone. The long-awaited reconciliation has finally happened!

16:38. Before the start of the race, the judges held meetings in the under-stands.

16:32. Rifle case Evgeniya Garanicheva easy to distinguish from the standard equipment of other biathletes by the tricolor and the signed surname.

15:47. Maxim Tsvetkov additional cartridges were needed during training. Maxim this season, unlike Babikov, did not win, but in the same Ostersund he was tenth in the sprint and second in the pursuit.

15:40. So Gross and Babikov talked at yesterday's workout. Anton's best sprint-pursuit combination this season was in Östersund. In the first race, he showed the seventh result, and in the second he won.

15:34. By the way, a curious fact about Loginov, who will miss the first two personal races. Despite the negative information background, a note about Alexander's triumph at the European Championship was published in the latest issue of the official IBU magazine Biathlonworld. And there is not a single mention in the article that Alexander served a disqualification for EPO. You can here.

15:14. I got into the camera lens of our special correspondents. That's how he shot at yesterday's training session. I would like to believe that in the race he will not have any problems on the firing lines.

15:07. Today we are waiting for the men's sprint. And representatives of the strong half of biathlon mankind were preparing for the race yesterday morning.

15:00. To view women's workout this morning it was not necessary to leave the house. The special correspondent of the "Championship" organized the broadcast directly from the scene. You can watch how the girls prepared for the pursuit race.

14:50. Anastasia Kuzmina, yesterday in conflict with Fourcade, today in training moved in a classic move.

14:40. The main stand of the stadium in Hochfilzen was empty during the first half of the day. There were no girls willing to look at the training session. This is understandable: many preferred to read the heading "Two from ProstoRashino" in the warmth. It was much more interesting than an ordinary occupation.

14:30. Hello dear biathlon fans. The Biathlon World Championship in Hochfilzen continues, the men's sprint is next. Today the first personal medals for men will be played, the main hands of biathlon will be shaken and in general there will be a lot of interesting things to see. "Championship", of course, follows everything that happens in the biathlon stadium and beyond, so stay with us and do not miss anything important!
