Having installed all the files, you will not notice any gameplay innovations. The only thing that will change for the better is appearance horses.

This modification replaces the textures of all horses that can be found in the game with better ones. At the same time, the author tried to achieve maximum similarity with the original, simply by increasing the resolution of the original "skins".

Revised horses

Thanks to this mod for horse riding in Skyrim, you can make this process more interesting and realistic. In addition, it will be possible to increase the characteristics of your horse and dress it in special equipment.

The modification also adds a riding option for your companions. Unfortunately, it only works for vanilla satellites, so keep that in mind. And finally, the mod allows you to quickly change the horse, and also gives you the opportunity to choose a stall for your horse.

Mounted Followers

Those who know English language, should immediately understand the purpose of this mod for horses in "Skyrim" from its name. After installing all the files, your companions will learn to ride and finally stop running after you on foot. Agree, this adds a lot of atmosphere and realism.

The modification works quite simply: as soon as your hero summons a horse (either bought or stolen), the companion receives a copy of it and begins to ride on horseback. Now auto-match can be set to simple (the old way of opening the inventory of each downed) or advanced (using the filter to auto-match without stopping the game). The filter includes categories: ingredients, animal skins, ore and ingots, lamps and torches, food and drinks, elixirs, poison, books (of little value), spell books (all or just not learned), recipes, scrolls, soul crystals, gems, keys, equipment (all in one: clothing, armor, weapons and jewelry). For each category, you can configure auto-collection to the player's inventory or the horse's inventory. Equipment category has additional sorting based on enchantment, minimum price or weight.
- New resource / ingredient transfer function (requires SKSE and key assignment mode). Materials are divided into three categories, for each profession: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, and Enchanting. To access this function, hold down the modifier key: Alt, Ctrl, or Shift, depending on which of them are used by the standard functions of the mod, the first free one can be used. If all three keys are occupied by the CH mod, then the function will be unavailable.
- A new item is available for crafting: "Kit hot air balloon". Can be created in any forge, being in the inventory is automatically activated when overweight. - Key bindings now use keystroke logging instead of waiting for ~ 30 presses per second, which will significantly reduce the load on Papyrus and ensure that keystrokes are detected every time regardless of script latency.
- Changed horse following behavior. The sputnik horse will no longer follow him if he is waiting or resting, but will instead wait. The player's horse travel distance is increased by 15 feet. Setting:
Before using the mod, take a little time to configure. Settings are available in-game in MCM. For the control mode of the assigned keys, you must first assign them (apparently for those who yell that they are not bothered by nifiga). For the companion horses to work, this function must first be enabled.

Control modes:
- Key assignment: There are 5 actions available to which you can assign separate keys - dialogue / loot, collection, inventory, quick dismount and activation of follow. Requires SKSE and a disabled gamepad (if connected). If the conditions are not met, the control mode will automatically switch to sequential combinations of one key (aka Multi-Tap).
- Multi-Tap: The action button is used for riding. Functions are activated depending on the number of consecutive presses (like click and double click in the Windows interface)
- One press - saddle / dismount
- Double tap on the ground - open the horse's inventory
- Triple tapping on the ground - following the horse behind you, combinations of tapping on horseback - dialogue / loot / collection. This mode causes saddle / dismount delays as there is a delay to count clicks. This delay can also be configured in MCM.

Description of features

Fight on horseback for companions:
- By default, the game does not support the use of mounted combat by NPCs. A lot of work has been done on something that, in principle, should not work under any circumstances. Every attack and every detail is activated by tons of scripts, even preparing weapons for battle or, on the contrary, hiding weapons. Behavior scripts also include target selection, contact distance, attack side selection and other small details.
- Each companion will be given a weapon specifically for the fight on horseback, which in fact has no damage, in any other case, satellites will hit 90% of the target. These weapons are modified versions of conventional weapons. The choice of weapons by the companions is made at the beginning of their fight on horseback, depending on which weapon they use on the ground. If they do not have a weapon, then they receive it in accordance with their combat skills, set material and player level
- Fight on horseback does not depend on the material of the weapon, but only on its type, player level, perks, imposed reinforcing spells, difficulty level and enemy defense. If on which difficulty you are playing it seems to you that the damage is too high / low, then it can be adjusted in MCM.

Horse armor:
- Armor can be selected in MCM, separately for GG and separately for satellites. You can choose from: Leather, Nordic, Dwemer, Ebony, Daedric and Dragon (from Dragonbone if you prefer). None of them actually give a bonus to the armor rating, it was made for beauty.

Battering ram of adversaries on horseback:
- The horse can knock any other NPCs in the way when sprinting, knocking back and dealing damage. Sprint by itself does nothing, only when it collides with an object. When a possible collision is predetermined, the horse will make a small jerk towards the possible victim at the same time, the GG will lean forward and yell like a Papuan
- The speed of the dash, depending on the level, will rise from 10% to 50%. Further, the damage will depend on the collision angle, target protection and horse speed, ranging from 5 to 160 damage units. On every successful knockdown, the horse will lose 15-20% of its base stamina to prevent overuse of this feature
- The ram will not work on a target that has already been knocked down and it will be extremely difficult to implement if the target is on your tail (in figuratively...). It is better to use a dash when your target is distracted from you by attacking someone else. Note: any target, be it friend or foe, goes to ram. If you knock down a friendly target, you will be considered a criminal.

Calling a horse:
- To use this function, you need to buy a forge from any stable owner for 500 septims. After purchasing the horn, it will be available as a skill. Use it to summon a horse and after a short cutscene you will already be on horseback. Only works in the open world outside of the city outside of combat. Avoid using this feature indoors
- Companions will also use the horn with you. If you have a horse paddock mod installed, use the skill in the picture to call any horse at any distance by name. It is on your conscience not to leave horses in locations from the DLC.

Whistling:
- An alternative and more lore summoning option. Especially useful for setting up horse follow when the horse stops due to a locate filter. No special manipulation was used to implement the function, the horse will come to you directly with the help of the AI. An hour on standby will speed up the arrival of the horse if it is too far away. The whistle is available as a skill, but you will have to find out how to get it during the game.

Dialogue and search of corpses on horseback:
- The function does not work on aiming at the target with the cursor, instead, the search method by radius is used. Pay attention to the relative position between the target and your horse. You can also conduct a dialogue with a target on a horse, since if a horse was detected in a radius, additional methods of detecting a character who can be riding come into action
- Searching corpses on horseback is as available as if you were trying to dialogue with the target. In the "Multi-Tap" mode, the dialogues were combined with the collection of vegetation, but the priority will be calculated towards the dialogue if there is an npc next to which you can talk.

Collecting vegetation on horseback:
- As well as dialogs, the function activates the detection method on the vegetation that can be collected. When using the multi-tap mode, grass is collected by successive clicks, if they stop, an attempt will be made to collect all possible resources in the available radius at one time
- The assigned key allows you to collect all available resources by pressing a key. In addition to the assignment of the keys, the "Combine" function, an option that disables the collect key and combines it with dialogs and actions (prioritizes between dialogs / collect / loot as in the case of multi-tap).

Quick dismount:
- No new animations were added, only replaces the dismounting animation with a jump or bare weapon if in battle while the character is behind the horse, creating the illusion of jumping off the horse's back. In multi-tap mode, the default dismount action will be overridden and can be configured to work in combat or disabled altogether. Key assignment mode uses a separate jump key. If used in combat, the game will be forced to ignore the weapon disarming animation

Horse inventory:
- All items can be stored in a remote container called "Horse bag". If your horse dies, all things will be restored immediately. Key Assign Mode allows you to access the horse's inventory if you are overweight but still want to tackle something. Works in rooms, cities, estates and castles
- Also for the key assignment mode there is an additional function for quickly moving resources and ingredients. To access the function, hold down the definition key and call up the horse's inventory
- The definition button is dynamic and can be one of the following: 1.Alt, 2.Ctrl, 3.Shift depending on which keys are used by the standard functions of the mod, the first available one will be used. If all of the above keys are occupied by mod functions, then quick reset of resources / ingredients will be unavailable

Balloon kit:
- This useful item can be created in any smelter in the "miscellaneous" section. Being in the inventory is triggered automatically if your carry-over weight is exceeded and gives 10.000 to your carry-over weight for 5 minutes.

Fraction ratio:
- When you first load the game with this plugin, a new friendly faction will be created for your horse, thanks to which your horse will not attack enemies and participate in hostilities. This procedure takes some time and can take as long as a minute. At this point, it's best not to save the game.
- Wait for the notification of the successful completion of the faction relations update ("Your horse is friendly to all factions"), then save and continue playing. If this function is not to your liking, then you can set a neutral attitude that is used by default in the game. select neutral / friendly (in line), then after you exit the settings menu and saddle the horse, the faction attitude will be updated.This function also affects the horses of your companions.

Clever Horse Follow:
- Horse follow is disabled by default. Use the appropriate key in key mode or triple tap in multi-tap mode to have your horse follow you. Additional settings are found in MCM. You can disable or enable Always Follow, and Smart Follow is also available. Smart Follow mode means that your horse will follow you if you are not sneaking or in a danger zone (bandit camps, forts, military camps, fortresses, etc.). You can also set the distance at which it will walk your horse (short / medium / long distance).

Horse behavior in battle:
- Two modes available: cowardly and bold. It is best to use this function based on the set ratio of factions
- The cowardly horse will always try to avoid danger, escape from combat and enemies
- The brave will, immediately seeing the enemy, rush at him, try to help all allies and will not leave the battle until she defeats the enemy or throws away her hooves
- Damage is calculated according to the following scheme: 20 units + player level. For example, having a friendly attitude of factions and bold behavior of a horse, you will get a mount that will not participate in battles, but will not run away from them either. On the other hand, if you do not set the neutral attitude of the factions and the brave behavior of the horse, you will get a full-fledged companion in battle.

4. Go into the game without the mod installed from the last save made and save again to the same save with replacement and exit the game
5. Install the new version of the mod and enter the game from the last save
6. After a clean update of the mod, the horn, whistle, etc. will disappear from you and to return everything, type in the console:
set CHBuyHornCompleted to 1 and
set CHLearnWhistleCompleted to 1
7. Next in the console enter "StartQuest CH" (without quotes) to run the scripts, you're done

Complete removal of the mod:

- Using horse armor from this plugin will cause conflicts with all plugins,
affecting horse models and textures or adding armor.

Possible causes of problems:
The plugin was thoroughly tested during the beta stage before it was released to the public. If you have any errors, then the possible reason is the following:
- Requires Skyrim 1.9.32.0.8 or higher with Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC installed or not, requires SKSE 1.06.16 or higher
- Considering how many functions, parameters and settings a plugin has, conflicts with other plugins are possible. In this case, you need to manually disable / enable plugins to find conflicting ones and disable them.
- Dirty saves: if you have not done a clean save after removing conflicting plugins or old versions, then most likely the cause of your problems may be "dirty" saves (see the technical part for how to make clean saves). In this case, you just have to start new game with a new character. If after that there are no problems, then you can be sure that there is a 100% problem

If you are installing the mod for the first time, and not updating from an older version, then the author strongly does not recommend using these console commands, but getting a horn and whistle in the standard way.

Setting:

Before you start playing, take a few minutes to configure the plugin. You can access the settings through the "Riding with ease" ability in the magic section. If you want to use the key mode you need to set it up first.

The Convenient Horses mod overhauls the horse handling system, adding a lot of interesting horse handling options. You can choose the behavior of the horses and put equipment on them. All official add-ons, MSM menu, SkyUI are supported. Compatible with many modifications, flexible control settings.

Other features of the mod:

  • satellites will be able to ride horses;
  • there is a realistic animation of the call of horses;
  • whistle is used to trigger;
  • customizable faction relations (friendly, neutral);
  • you can knock opponents down;
  • the stamina, health and speed of the horse are adjusted;
  • hotkeys can be configured;

Important: Horses cannot make their way through Solstheim, Soul Cairn, Black Reach and near Fort Dawnguard, so do not leave them there.

Setting: before using the mod, understand the setting. Settings are available in the MCM menu. For control mode, assigned keys must be assigned first. For the companion horses to work, this feature must first be enabled.

Control modes:

  • Key assignment: 5 actions are available to which separate keys are assigned - dialogue / loot, collection, inventory, quick dismount and activation of follow. Requires SKSE and a disabled gamepad (if connected). If the conditions are not met, the control mode will automatically switch to sequential combinations of one key (aka Multi-Tep);
  • Multi-Tap: The action button is used to control the top. The functions are activated depending on the number of consecutive presses (like click and double click in the Windows interface);
  • One press - saddle / dismount;
  • Double tap on the ground - open the horse's inventory;
  • Triple tapping on the ground - following the horse behind you, pressing combinations on horseback - dialogue / loot / collection. This mode causes saddle / dismount delays as there is a delay to count clicks. This delay can also be configured in MCM.

Description of features

Fight on horseback for companions:

  • By default, the game does not support the use of mounted combat by NPCs. A lot of work has been done to ensure that, in principle, should not work under any conditions. Every attack and every detail is activated by tons of scripts, even preparing weapons for battle or, on the contrary, hiding weapons. Behavior scripts also include target selection, contact distance, attack side selection and other small details;
  • Each companion will be given a weapon specifically for the fight on horseback, which in fact has no damage, in any other case, satellites will hit 90% of the target. These weapons are modified versions of conventional weapons. The choice of weapons by the companions is made at the beginning of their fight on horseback, depending on which weapon they use on the ground. If they do not have a weapon, then they receive it in accordance with their combat skills, set material and player level;
  • Fight on horseback does not depend on the material of the weapon, but only on its type, player level, perks, imposed reinforcing spells, the level of difficulty and defense of the enemy. If on which difficulty you are playing it seems to you that the damage is too high / low, then it can be adjusted in MCM.

Horse armor

Armor can be selected in MCM, separately for GG and separately for satellites. You can choose from: Leather, Nordic, Dwemer, Ebony, Daedric and Dragon (you can from Dragonbone). None of them actually give a bonus to the armor rating, it was made for beauty.

Battering the enemy on horseback:

  • The horse can knock any other NPCs in the way while sprinting, knocking back and dealing damage. Sprint by itself does nothing, only when it collides with an object. When a possible collision is predetermined, the horse will make a small jerk towards the possible victim at the same time the MG will lean forward and scream;
  • The dash speed, depending on the level, will rise from 10% to 50%. Further, the damage will depend on the collision angle, target protection and horse speed, ranging from 5 to 160 damage units. With each successful knockdown, the horse loses 15-20% of its base stamina to prevent overuse of this function;
  • The ram will not work on a target that has already been knocked down and will be extremely difficult to implement if the target is on your tail (in a figurative sense ...). It is better to use a dash when your target is distracted from you by attacking someone else. Note: any target, be it friend or foe, goes to ram. If you knock down a friendly target, you will be considered a criminal.

Calling a horse:

  • To use this function, you need to buy a forge from any stable owner for 500 septims. After purchasing the horn, it will be available as a skill. Use it to summon a horse and after a short cutscene you will already be on horseback. Only works in the open world outside of the city outside of combat. Avoid using this feature indoors;
  • Companions will also use the horn with you. If you have a horse paddock mod installed, use the skill in the picture to call any horse at any distance by name. It is on your conscience not to leave horses in locations from the DLC.

Whistling

An alternative option for calling a horse and more lore. Especially useful in setting up horse follow when the horse stops due to the location filter. No special manipulation was used to implement the function, the horse will come to you directly with the help of the AI.

An hour on standby will speed up the arrival of the horse if it is too far away. The whistle is available as a skill, but you will have to find out how to get it during the game.

Dialogue and search of corpses on horseback:

  • The function does not work when hovering over the target with the cursor, instead it uses the radius search method. Pay attention to the relative position between the target and your horse. You can also conduct a dialogue with a target on a horse, since if a horse was detected in the radius, additional methods of detecting a character who can be on top come into play;
  • Searching corpses on horseback is just as possible as if you were trying to dialogue with the target. In the "Multi-Tap" mode, the dialogues were combined with the collection of vegetation, but the priority will be calculated towards the dialogue if there is an npc next to which you can talk.

Collecting vegetation on horseback:

  • As well as dialogs, the function activates the detection method on the vegetation that can be collected. When using the multi-tap mode, grass is collected by successive clicks, if they stop, an attempt will be made to collect all possible resources in the available radius at one time;
  • The assigned key allows you to collect all available resources by pressing the key. In addition to the assignment of the keys, the "Combine" function, an option that disables the collect key and combines it with dialogs and actions (prioritizes dialogs / collect / loot as in the case of multi-tap).

Quick dismount

No new animations were added, only replacing the dismounting animation with a jump or bare weapon if in battle while the character is behind the horse, creating the illusion of jumping off the horse's back.

In multi-tap mode, the default dismount action will be overridden and can be configured to work in combat or disabled altogether. Key assignment mode uses a separate jump key. If used in combat, the game will be forced to ignore the weapon disarming animation

Horse inventory:

  • All items can be stored in a remote container called the Horse Bag. If your horse dies, all things will be restored immediately. Key Assign Mode allows you to access the horse's inventory if you are overweight but still want to tackle something. Works in rooms, cities, estates and castles;
  • Also for the key assignment mode there is an additional function for quickly moving resources and ingredients. To access the function, hold down the definition key and call the horse's inventory;
  • The definition button is dynamic and can be the following: 1.Alt, 2.Ctrl, 3.Shift depending on which keys are used by the standard functions of the mod, the first available one will be used. If all of the above keys are occupied by mod functions, then the quick reset of resources / ingredients will be unavailable.

Balloon kit

This useful item can be created in any smelter in the "miscellaneous" section. Being in the inventory is triggered automatically if your carry-over weight is exceeded and gives 10.000 to your carry-over weight for 5 minutes.

Fraction ratio:

  • When you first load the game with this plugin, a new friendly faction will be created for your horse, thanks to which your horse will not attack enemies and participate in hostilities. This procedure takes some time and can take as long as a minute. It is best not to save the game at this point;
  • Wait for the notification of the successful completion of the faction relations update ("The horse is friendly to all factions"), then save and continue playing. If you don't like this feature, you can set the neutral attitude, which is the default in the game. If you choose neutral / friendly (in line), then after you exit the settings menu and saddle the horse, the faction attitude will be updated. This function also affects the horses of your companions.

Clever horse following

Horse follow is disabled by default. Use the appropriate key in key mode or triple tap in multi-tap mode to have your horse follow you. Additional settings can be found in MCM. You can disable or enable Always Follow, and Smart Follow is also available. Smart follow mode means the horse will follow you as long as you are not sneaking or in a danger zone (bandit camps, forts, military camps, fortresses, etc.). You can also set the distance at which the horse will go (small / medium / large).

Horse behavior in battle:

  • Two modes: cowardly and bold. It is recommended to use this function based on the set ratio of factions
  • A cowardly horse will always try to avoid danger, flee from hostilities and enemies;
  • The brave one will, immediately seeing the enemy, rush at him, try to help all allies and will not leave the battle until she overthrows the enemy or throws away her hooves;
  • Damage is calculated according to the scheme: 20 units + player level. For example, having a friendly attitude of factions and bold behavior of a horse, you will get a mount that will not participate in battles, but will not run away from them either. On the other hand, if you do not set the neutral attitude of the factions and the brave behavior of the horse, you will get a full-fledged companion in battle.
