Coach Oleg Bazilevich later expressed the following version: “ It seems to me that Pakhtakor died because of the carelessness of our air defense systems, and became their next victim. Just because of the controller's mistake, the plane with the players flew into the air over some defensive object ...". Some relatives of the deceased footballers also adhered to this version.
