Biography

Alexander Pavlovich Ragulin - famous Soviet hockey player, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1963). Sports nickname - "San Sanych" (the Canadians called Ragulin "big Rag"). He won the largest number of medals among all hockey players (22) at the OWG, World and European Championships.

Born May 5, 1941 in Moscow. Father, Pavel Nikolaevich Ragulin (1907-1991), architect. Mother, Ragulina Sofya Viktorovna (1904-1990), - architect, daughter of Glushkov Viktor Grigoryevich (1883-1937), hydrologist, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, academician of the All-Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, participant in the preparation of the GOELRO plan.

A month and a half before the start of World War II, a Muscovite had three twins. They were named Tolya, Sasha and Misha. The hustling has begun. Sofya Viktorovna - that was the name of that woman - left with her children for evacuation to Kemerovo. One day, having put her sons in makeshift sleds, she went out into the street. A man passed by.

“Excuse me, I think I recognized you,” the Muscovite turned to him. – Are you Leonid Osipovich Utyosov?

- Yes it's me. He came to concerts with his orchestra.

Meet my twins. How do you find them? Aren't they skinny?

- Do not worry. They will grow up - they will be healthy, - answered Utyosov. - After all, I am also a twin, I have a sister!

The great master of the Soviet stage was not mistaken - the twins really became healthy. The whole hockey world knew them - the Ragulin brothers! Alexander was especially successful - a three-time Olympic champion, a 10-time world champion, a 9-time European champion, a 9-time champion of the USSR!

Alexander, a student of the 51st school of the Frunzensky district of Moscow, was predicted, like his brothers, a great future, but not on the ice, although the twins played safely for the school team (in the Frunzensky district, MTS hockey players were well known, as they called Misha, Tolya and Sasha Ragulins), - they were successfully engaged in the district music school: Sasha in the double bass class, Tolya - piano, Misha - cello. Eyewitnesses say that at that time it was somehow not believed that the Ragulins would succeed on the ice more than on the stage.

From the arms of the muses, Alexander Ragulin, as well as his two twin brothers (they were all predicted to succeed not only in music, but also in painting), Nikolai Semenovich Epshtein took him to the world of hockey. Anatoly, who was born 15 minutes earlier than everyone else, became a goalkeeper, Alexander became a defender, Mikhail, the smallest, became a striker.

Then in the team "Chemist", where the Ragulins got, the proverb "There is power - you don't need mind" was not in honor. Accordingly, young people were taught in Voskresensk. So Sasha, to the heroic by nature, added both an excellent command of technique and a passion for playing, devoid of straightforwardness.

The softness and accuracy of gears, powerful and accurate throw- all this briskly singled out Alexander Ragulin, who in 1962 was almost at the same time invited to CSKA and included in the USSR national team (his two brothers entered the military club a year later) not only among the defenders, but also among the attackers. So, for example, at the 1966 World and European Championships, held in Ljubljana, the same hockey player bypassed (4 + 2) the famous striker Anatoly Firsov (3 + 2) in the “goal + pass” system, and moreover, in terms of abandoned washers Boris Mayorov himself, on whose account there were three accurate hits. At that tournament, Ragulin was named the best defender on the planet.

No matter how the rivals of the USSR national team pressed at the World and European Championships, at the Olympic Games, they could not pass Alexander Ragulin. And each collision with him ended in the same thing - the assault sortie choked!

Possessing a powerful physique, Palych (or San Palych), as he was invariably called in CSKA and the USSR national team despite his young age, did not build his game only on martial arts and performing purely destructive functions. Excellent vision of the site, perfected technique, equanimity and prudence allowed Ragulin to be a true game designer. Having mastered the puck, he instantly sent his partners on the attack with the thinnest pass.

Perhaps Ragulin was not as passionate on the ice as, say, Eduard Ivanov, and earlier Nikolai Sologubov, but none of the defenders at that time had Ragulin's fine calculation, combined with extraordinary composure.

Alexander Ragulin was not a rude man. On the contrary, goodwill emanated from him all the way. He rebuffed the hockey hooligans in his own way: he squeezed somewhere in the corner of the field near the board once or twice in his arms, but in such a way that the rude man, who surreptitiously hit the formidable defender, began to crack the bones inside the hockey armor.

In many countries of the world, spectators, having barely heard about the arrival of the USSR national team (today, Ragulin at the head of a team of veterans often finds himself abroad, covering South Africa, which, it would seem, far from hockey), purposely went to look at Alexander Pavlovich.

If internal conflicts arose at times in the CSKA team, then the parties went to Palych for their resolution. Coaches, when they needed to establish a penalty for the guilty, turned to the same Palych. He has always been a kind of last resort, the same officer, once, like two twin brothers, who graduated from the Moscow Regional Pedagogical Institute.

Leaving the ice, Ragulin became a coach at the CSKA youth school. By the way, his appearance at CSKA in the near future benefited everyone: the hockey player himself, the army club and the USSR national team. Ragulin worked as a coach in Novosibirsk SKA. He died on the night of November 18, 2004 in the hospital. Burdenko. He was buried in Moscow at the Vagankovsky cemetery.

Vitaly Davydov (3-time Olympic champion, 9-time world champion, long-term partner in defense in the USSR national team) about Ragulin:

I have no words to convey my emotions and my grief. Stanislav Petukhov called me early this morning and told me about Palych's death. I confess, I refused to believe in the worst. After all, a few days ago I saw Ragulin in full health. Palych in Lately often came to Luzhniki for Dynamo matches - and I wrote him tickets to the VIP box. Moreover, we talked for a long time last game our team with Avangard, which took place before the break associated with the Karjala Cup.

- What was Ragulin's mood that day?

- Magnificent! As, by the way, and well-being. In general, Palych by nature is one of the most cheerful and good-natured people I have ever encountered. His jokes, sustained in a truly Russian, folk style, are unique. Can't believe we lost this big man

- How can you characterize Ragulin the hockey player?

– A unique master! At the very beginning of the 60s, together with him, we took the first steps in the USSR national team and went on the ice in one pair. Behind Palych I felt like behind a stone wall! His trump card was, of course, the first pass. He could start an assist attack from anywhere - from behind the gate, from the board, from the center of the site! I believe that Palych became the founder of the national school of defenders - it was from him that all the best masters of the next generations took an example.

Was he an offensive or defensive defender?

- In those days, our hockey school did not imply any specialization. It was later that she came to us from across the ocean (sighs). And then each of us, the defenders of the USSR national team, was the best both in defense and in attack. And Ragulin is the best.

- They say that in the power struggle with Ragulin, few could compare.

- It's right. All hockey players of that time - from Czechs to Canadians - knew perfectly well that Palych should never be angry. V otherwise he could “pinch” at the board so that the brave man had to be removed from the game. It is not surprising that even the Canadians tried to avoid a tough fight with Ragulin. Oh, Palych-Palych, how we will miss you ...

Vladimir Yurzinov (coach of the Russian national team) about Ragulin:

- We first met on the ice in the early 60s. I then played for Dynamo, and Ragulin for Khimik. Already in 1961, we made our debut together as part of the USSR national team at the World Championships in Switzerland. Alexander was 20 years old, I was 21 years old, we were the “young blood” of the national team and have since become close friends.

Then, in preparation for the world championship, I undertook to teach Ragulin to throw. Everything was fine with this game component, but it was the throws that vulnerable spot. And he trained under my “guidance” until, after one of the shots, he hit the puck in my hand and almost broke it. More than 40 years have passed since then, but whenever we met, we always started with memories of those joint activities, and Ragulin felt my hand and, laughing, asked: “Does it hurt?”

At the age of 25, for everyone, he simply became Palych - that's what even older and more honored hockey players called him. Because by his very appearance in the team, he instilled in everyone boundless confidence in his own abilities. It is no coincidence that it was with him that our team won the gold of world championships 10 times - no one else in hockey world no such merit.

As a player, he was distinguished by colossal reliability - there were no such defenders either before or after Ragulin. And probably never will be. How many times during the matches I called on my hockey players to follow the example of Alexander Pavlovich. How we missed him at our own gates. There has always been a shortage, including at the last Karjala Cup, where our team sometimes showed blatant carelessness in defense.

And now there will be no one to learn from. Our generation is gradually leaving - not only from hockey, but also from life.

Bitterly. Hard. Inevitably. Irrevocably...

Valery Vasiliev (2-time Olympic champion, 8-time world champion) about Ragulin:

- We have lost a great defender and a man, a block or, as I always called him, an elephant of Russian hockey.

How did you find out about the misfortune?

- Alexander Gusev called in the morning. Says: "Sasha is dead." I didn't believe him...

- When you are in last time Have you seen Ragulin?

- A few days ago - at a gala evening dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Alpha special forces group. Ragulin was in a great mood - as usual, he joked and was in the center of attention. I heard that then he went to Kiev with the team of veterans of the Soviet hockey. And after returning - after some time - there was such a misfortune. Death is slowly tidying up all of us, Soviet hockey veterans…

- I know that in the USSR national team you had to change Vitaly Davydov as Ragulin's partner.

- In 1970, I made my debut in the national team, with which the outstanding coach Anatoly Tarasov worked at that time. He threw me, a green youth, into the embrasure: at the very first training session he put me in a pair with Ragulin. So at every warm-up, I carried 110-kilogram Alexander Palych on my back. And squatted with him! Do I need to say how I was after the warm-up. More precisely, schools of survival.

Thanks Ragulin! As soon as Tarasov turned away, he said: "Nothing, worm, don't be afraid, now I'll help you." (He called me a worm for my rather dry figure). And during squats, he began to push off with his foot from the ground - so that it would be easier for me.

I remember once Tarasov discovered Ragulin's cunning. But he didn't scold us too much. I noticed that, they say, a mess, this will not work. And this is limited.

In the early 70s, in several matches of the USSR national team, I really went out with Ragulin in the same pair. Impressions? Amazing! It is a pleasure to play with a great partner. Plus, he taught me, young, life, loved to give advice - with humor, a twinkle.

Eh, I can't believe we lost Palych...

Evgeny Zimin (2-time Olympic champion, 3-time world champion) about Ragulin:

As trite as it sounds, we have suffered a huge loss. Everyone knew Ragulin as a great defender, largely thanks to whose efforts our hockey became the best in the world in those years. But I would like to say something else, because I often talked with him in everyday life. I knew Sasha as a good-natured, absolutely conflict-free person, a real Russian hero who was always ready to help. He is the embodiment of all the best that is in a Russian person.

I heard that Ragulin had his first heart attack ten years ago. We sometimes discussed this disease with him - after all, I also had a heart attack. Apparently, on the night of Thursday there was a second one. On a mournful night for all world hockey.

Alexander Yakushev (2-time Olympic champion, 7-time world champion) about Ragulin:

- I just learned about the death of Alexander Ragulin. I can not believe it. Now it is difficult for me to say anything for the press - I am in a state of shock.

Hockey legends at an outdoor rink in Moscow. From Fetisov to Bure

From 9 to 11 December at the outdoor skating rink ice palace VTB will host the Legends Cup dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Russian hockey.

Tournament history

It was first held in November 2011 on the ice of the Megasport Sports Palace. Veterans of CSKA, Dynamo Moscow, Spartak and the MVO Air Force team, played by the legends of Krylya Sovetov, Voskresensky Khimik, as well as some leaders of the KHL, crossed sticks in it. Perhaps someone does not remember, but the Air Force of the Moscow Military District is a three-time champion of the USSR, a team that was personally supervised by the son of Joseph Stalin, Vasily. The legendary Vsevolod Bobrov played for her. The team crashed in 1950 in a plane crash near Sverdlovsk, and Bobrov survived because he did not fly with partners on that ill-fated flight.

was first held in November 2011 on the ice of the Megasport Sports Palace. Veterans of CSKA, Dynamo Moscow, Spartak and the MVO Air Force crossed clubs in it.

In addition to Bobrov, Viktor Shuvalov, the captain of the Soviet national team, which won its first world championship in 1954, played for that team. He was invited to the tournament as a guest of honor. The first tournament was won by CSKA.

The second time was held in 2015. It was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The tournament was held from 26 to 28 April in the newly opened Ice VTB Palace. Veterans of CSKA, Spartak, Dynamo Moscow, Ak Bars, Traktor and SKA took part in the tournament. And again the winners were the capital's "soldiers". In the last match of the tournament, there was a fundamental confrontation between CSKA and Spartak. After two periods, the red and blue, which were played by Sergei Fedorov, Valery Zelepukin, Vladimir Malakhov and Albert Leshchev, outplayed their rivals with a score of 6:4. Moreover, after the second period they were leading 6:1, but in the final third, the Spartak legends with Viktor Shalimov, Vitaly Prokhorov and Igor Boldin scored three goals, thereby keeping the intrigue to the very end. This tournament is the third in a row. It will be held from 9 to 11 December 2016 at an open skating rink near the VTB Ice Palace.

20 SKA and CSKA players in the national team! This was not even in the USSR

Oleg Znarok announced the expanded composition of the Russian team for the Channel One Cup. 20 out of 32 hockey players represent SKA and CSKA.

Rules for the Legends Cup

Players under the age of 45 are not allowed in the Legends Cup. The application for the match can be 18 hockey players playing in the field, and two goalkeepers. The duration of each period is 15 minutes of "dirty" time, after the breaks the teams do not change goals. In case of a draw in regular time, a series of post-match shootouts is assigned, five shots for each team. If this series does not determine the winner, then the throws are taken in turn until the first advantage of one of the teams. Penalties are replaced by a free throw.

This tournament is the third in a row. It will be held from 9 to 11 December 2016 at an open skating rink near the VTB Ice Palace.

Any power contacts are excluded. Clicks with the club raised above the knee or their imitation with the aim of intimidating an opponent are also prohibited. If, after such a throw, a player of the opposing team is injured, this will be punished with a free throw.

The formula for the tournament is as follows. The tournament is played in one round. All games of the tournament are played until the victory of one of the teams. The places of the teams according to the results of the games are determined by the highest number of points scored (winning in regular time - 3 points, winning in a series of post-match shots - 2 points, losing in a series of shots - 1 point and losing in regular time - 0 points).

Legends of CSKA, Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow, as well as Krylia Sovetov will take part in the tournament. Spectators will see the game of the famous masters of the past - Alexander Kozhevnikov, Vitaly Prokhorov, Viktor Shalimov, Valery Kamensky, Alexei Zhamnov, Alexei Kasatonov, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Vladimir Myshkin, Pavel Bure, Vladimir and Alexander Golikov and many other hockey players who forged the victorious glory of our hockey.
