Tournament management. The organization conducting the tournament (or several) is indicated. The direct holding of the tournament is entrusted to panel of judges approved by the host organization.

Participants.The conditions for participation (admission) in the tournament are indicated: by age and qualifications, territorial characteristics (class).

The procedure for determining places ... Here the main indicators are indicated by which the places of the participants are determined, including in the case of equality of the main indicators for several participants.

Awarding and summing up. This section describes the procedure for summing up the results of the tournament, what certificates (diplomas) are used to mark certain achievements of the participants. It also describes who gets what rights to participate in other tournaments or for which this tournament had qualifying status.

Financing.Indicates who and for what bears the costs of the competition and participation in them.

The position has been prepared. The next step is to hold a competition.

A checkers tournament should be started with a record of those wishing to participate in the tournament. After the end of the recording, it is necessary to hold a meeting of participants.

At this meeting, we must congratulate all participants on the beginning of the championship, wish sporting success, remind about the rules of the game, announce the order of the competition and draw lots of participants at the conclusion of the meeting.

The referee of the tournament must appear in the tournament room 30 minutes before the start of the games in order to have time to prepare everything necessary for the successful holding of the tournament.

It is clear that every referee should be well aware of the rules of the game, the drafts code, the position and the rules of the tournament. In addition, each judge must, through their actions, create an atmosphere for fair and uncompromising struggle, so that athletes give all their strength, skill and skill to achieve victory.

When all the participants are entered, according to the draw, entered into the tournament table, the color of the checkers for each of the participants is determined and the first round is held.

If the participants meet each other once, then the colors of the checkers for any number of participants can be easily determined using the rule; if in standings both players are recorded under even numbers (or both under odd numbers), then the participant with the higher number plays white. If one of the opponents is recorded with an even number, and the other with an odd number, then the participant with the lower number plays white.

For example, in the meeting between Egor Ivanov and Andrey Vasiliev, Egor Ivanov should play with white, since his number is odd - the first, and Andrey Vasiliev has an even number, and in this case the participant with the lower number plays with white.

And vice versa, when Ivan Sidorov and Ilya Vladimirov meet with White, Ivan Sidorov should play, since both participants have odd numbers. The participant with the big number plays white.

Exception:the last number, with an even number of participants, plays with the numbers in the upper part of the table in black, and with the lower part - in white.

For a clear running of the tournament, it is important to correctly mark the results of the games played in the standings. For a win, the winner receives a point - 1 (or 2 points for international rules), to the loser - 0, for a draw to both of them by half a point - ½ (or 1 point).

At the end of the tournament, the places are distributed according to the sum of the points scored by each of the participants. So, for the highest number of points, the first place is awarded, then the places are distributed in descending order. Thus, the participant with the lowest number of points remains in last place.

“When we found out that about a million viewers a month watch the broadcasts of our matches, it was already a completely different level of emotions,” recalls Pavel Shapkin, co-owner of UCC. The UCC now has about 50 people: what kind of specialists are needed to organize an esports tournament?

To organize an eSports tournament, it is not necessary for the company to employ 50 people. Theoretically, even one or two people can do everything. It all depends on the scale of the competition. For us to organize high level championships are enough for 50 people. This figure will grow in the future.

I don’t presume to judge, as with other companies, but in our case, the organization of the championship begins with the provision of the prize fund. Further, the sales department is included in conjunction with marketing. After we find partners and agree on the list of participants, the sports department is connected. He determines the structure of the competition, invites teams, in general, creates preliminary agreements with everyone who will participate in this tournament. When the structure of the tournament is ready, marketing is again included in the game, which imposes working tools on this “fish”. Together with our partners, we determine how to promote their product most effectively.

In parallel with this, you need to take care of a lighting studio that will stream the tournament in all necessary languages.

Perhaps that's all. The sales department, together with the sports department, interacts with the marketing department and with the studio, which will comment on all this. Of course, there are a myriad of little things and details without which the tournament will fail. The business process for organizing a tournament in our company includes 30 A4 pages. What is the fundamental difference between organizing an event at the regional / Russian / European level?

First of all, the level of the teams that play in the championship differs. If you make a regional tournament with low-level teams, the requirements for the organization are also quite low - for example, it is not very important what the broadcasts will be. If it comes about a major international tournament, then the teams already have certain conditions, riders. The schedule is being agreed upon, and it is quite difficult.

In general, the higher the level of the competition, the more interesting it is to organize it. Now we are organizing a CS: GO, Dota 2 tournament in which teams from the top 10 of the world play. These tournaments attract huge numbers of people. When we found that the number of viewers of our broadcasts was approaching a million per month, we felt a completely different level of emotions, and, most importantly, this gave us a different level of resources. The realization came that the company was becoming international. That's why major tournaments, despite all the accompanying stress, incredibly inspiring.

While we're on the subject of stress: how often do force majeure situations occur? How do you deal with them?

The most unpleasant situation- this is when teams are withdrawn from tournaments. For example, at our last championship, one of the teams got sick, he urgently needed hospitalization, and the team withdrew from the tournament. There are already certain obligations to partners, the tournament and the list of participants have been announced on all news portals. We have to urgently renegotiate with partners, look for a replacement team. And when there is a high-level tournament, the number of teams is limited and it is not so easy to find a replacement ... But these are working situations, we cope with this and move on.

It's hard to remember something more stressful. Although ... We recently helped organize a tournament in the Philippines, which was held at the largest indoor stadium in the world. He had the status of the world championship, and ten days before the start he was deprived of this status. Imagine what it is a strong beat- half of the prize pool ($ 500,000) and rating points, which are awarded only among tournaments that have the status of majors, were taken away from the organizers. Several large teams they immediately refused to participate. I can imagine how stressful it is, but despite this, the tournament was held. We went to the Philippines as a big team and helped organize. From experience - I have never seen anything worse than this.

Is it realistic to get government support in your business?

Yes, it is real, but, in my opinion, this is not the best strategy. Business must be self-directed, self-sufficient. Still, state support is always a certain obligation, often limiting and inhibiting. It is possible to receive state support, because e-sports works for young people aged 17-18, and this audience, like no one else, is important for the state. We even made attempts in this direction, but refused, because there is too much bureaucracy ... In short, this is an incomparable level of expenditure of forces and results.

Who creates the prize pool? Do tournaments always pay off?

In esports, tournaments are organized in a very interesting way, and the same scheme works in classic sports... First, the prize fund of the tournament is announced, and only then the teams are invited. The prize fund is paid, as you know, after the end of the tournament. What does it mean? This means that it is not necessary for a business to have a prize fund at the start of a tournament. This creates opportunities for fraud. Therefore, cases with non-payment of prize money, unfortunately, are not uncommon. It is important to make a commitment and assess the size of the prize pool sensibly.

There are cases when companies first declare a prize fund, expecting it to earn the necessary money over time, but they cannot cope. There were such cases in Russia and in the world. We know that this happens, and we are very careful about it. Fortunately, we are all good and everything prize funds paid out without problems.

What prevents domestic gaming from developing?

The development of esports is directly related to the development of the Internet. Accordingly, the better the Internet develops in the CIS and Russia, the better the connection and communications, the faster cybersport will develop. This is the first moment.

The second point is the audience's ability to pay. A company that builds a business in the CIS, a priori, operates in a market with a lower paying capacity of customers than in the European or American markets. The European audience is at least 4 times more solvent than the Russian one, and the American audience is about 20 times. If companies have access to a lot of money, they have a lot of resources for their own development. Therefore, here we are directly dependent on the regional economy, and the better the economy in our region, the better business develops. This is the main stopper; CIS companies cannot be self-sufficient here in the CIS region. In any case, for powerful development, it is important to enter the Western market.

What project are you working on now?

We are planning a very close cooperation with ESL in 2018 (this is the largest esports holding in the world). He hosts the largest tournaments, and we have signed a deep cooperation contract with him. We give away tickets to their championships at our tournaments. All tournaments held by ESL have the status of world championships, majors, and today we have created such conditions that teams that want to play in ESL tournaments can get these slots at our tournaments - that is, go through our qualifications to ESL tournaments. This is the main strategy for the next year.

Back this month, we, together with our friends and partners, brought our product to the market for the first time: Energgum esports chewing gum. It is a chewy energy drink that works like Red bull...
