Leather

Competitors of leather bandoliers are products made of natural dense fabrics impregnated with a water-repellent composition. However, such equipment is far from the strength and durability of leather bandoliers.

Homemade
Making a bandolier with your own hands is not difficult, especially if you take a ready-made belt as a basis. For example, an old soldier, classic model.

To create a homemade bandolier you will need:

Belt.
Three meters of slings, five millimeters wide.
A skein of harsh thread.
Three meters of slings, three millimeters wide.
Strong needle.
Cut a 5mm line 12 centimeters long. Attach to the belt and wrap the belt, sew both ends of the sling. I began to sew such patronage from a sling, I realized that it was bullshit, tk. you need a solid base to maintain a constant cartridge length, and if you make it from a 30mm line, it will dangle and turn over. Since the finished product will be sewn onto the belt, there is no need for additional thick fabric lining for the inner side.

We apply the outer part from above and, "tightening" the cartridge so that its fit is moderately tight, we measure the width of the sector on each of the strips, which will need to be sewn when they are connected.
We remove the cartridge, apply the outer strip to the inner one (with an offset upward) and begin to sew it with a No. 100 needle, making loops according to the markings.

It is recommended to sew a piece of fabric to each buttonhole so that the chucks do not slip down.

When the work is finished, we sew a piece of fabric to the bottom of each loop, or we attach them to the inner strip to prevent the cartridges from slipping down.
Finally, the blank is sewn around the perimeter with a tape and sewn to the belt itself - our do-it-yourself belt bandolier is ready

The bandolier is sewn in a similar way, the differences will be as follows:

For the chest bandolier, you will need two blanks, since they will be sewn on both sides separately

to the inner strip of leather or neoprene, you will need to sew a lining fabric in the form of a strip for density;
in addition, a “cape” can be made from a wider piece of leather, which is hemmed to the inner strip and lowered onto the bandolier from above with the possibility of fastening with Velcro or a button (in this case, we will get not an open, but a closed bandolier).

The basis for sewing on the upper tape with cells is not the same belt-belt, but a piece of leather or trapezoidal leatherette, cut out in such a way that, when folded, it forms a cover that fits tightly onto the butt of the weapon. It will be fixed with Velcro or buttons (they can be bought or removed from an old jacket).

This version of the bandolier basically repeats the chest belt. It differs in that the cells are made not only for cartridges, but also for many other necessary items. The principle of their placement (internal straight and external with ribbon loops) on the vest remains unchanged. The vest itself, of course, is easier to take ready-made.

The first step is the choice of material. The best option is a waterproof military fabric (or raincoat) in khaki color or camouflage number or slide. With a fabric width of 1 meter, you will need at least 2.5 m of workpiece.
Measurements of the parameters of the figure. Since such a vest is worn over the hunter's outfit, measurements should also be taken in outer clothing.
Making patterns in full size. You can make it from paper or from a light fabric (for example, from an old sheet). This will allow the finished pattern to be swept and tried on.

The main purpose that absolutely any bandolier is designed to carry out with his own hands is to ensure the safety of carrying various types of ammunition, quickly loading weapons, as well as preserving the combat properties and operability of "consumables" for a shot. An auxiliary role played by a cartridge belt or a bag for cartridges is to ensure the freedom of the hunter's hands and maximize the acceleration of his reactive actions in a constantly changing situation.

As mentioned above, charges held in the hand, in the pocket, or - God forbid! - in a backpack, doom the hunting enthusiast to a complete failure due to the untimely reloading of the weapon and the inconvenience of its use. That is why a do-it-yourself bandolier can by no means be called an "accessory" - it is the most important piece of equipment!

In addition, the bandolier is divided into open and closed.

In open models, the cartridges are subject to the unfavorable influence of weather conditions - they get wet from rain and snow, they become covered with frost in the cold. In closed models, the upper part of the pockets is covered with a specially sewn cape. Bandoliers of this kind, in fact, have become small, sewn on clothes or bags worn on a belt. They are usually used for long hunts in high humidity conditions (on lakes, swamps, during rain or heavy fog, in winter, etc.).

According to the internal volume, the bandoliers are divided into single-row and double-row.

The upper part of the bag is usually provided with a simple fastener or Velcro, and the bandolier itself is attached to a belt, the length of which is selected depending on the type of bandolier and the hunter's height.

Closed bandoliers are used when hunting in high humidity conditions (rain, snow, fog, etc.)

The only exception was the cartridge belts for the butt - their belts are short, and the cartridges are usually not protected so reliably, due to which reloading is accelerated several times. Hand-made products serve a similar purpose.

Tools and materials

Given the necessary set of materials (as well as, of course, desire and minimal sewing skills), making any kind of bandolier does not present any intractable task.

Homemade bandolier from a sling on a belt

In numerous articles about hunting, you often find the option of making chambers for cartridges using slings (usually of two types - 5 mm and 3 mm wide), which are sewn onto the base from a belt. However, even the open view of such a bandolier is extremely inconvenient, since the cartridges can fall out with sudden movements. In this regard, we will consider making bandoliers with our own hands on the basis of a different set of materials, accessories and tools. In this case, their list will look like this:

dermantine or leather (about 1.5 m) - from an old jacket, boots or scraps;
any wide and durable belt (neoprene, soldier's leather, etc.);
a piece of thick fabric;
thick strong threads;
various accessories (optional);
a sewing machine (or a set of tailoring needles with a thimble);
scissors (or a sharp knife).
