In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, motorcycle ice racing competitions have been completed. On the first day, athletes from five regions competed for the Cup of the Mayor of the regional capital, and on the second they fought for the prizes of the Governor and the Russian Armed Forces (tournament dedicated to February 23). Sakhalin motocrossers competed outside the main competition - the island fans of technical sports on their own bikes with specially studded wheels drove several laps around the stadium.
The battle for military and governor's trophies (and at the same time cash prizes of 50, 30 and 20 thousand rubles) turned out to be spectacular, tense and fierce: the athletes allowed themselves dangerous maneuvers, daring overtaking. Several times the races were stopped because of the riders who flew out of the saddle. The weather also made its contribution to the atmosphere of "overcoming everything in the world" - a blizzard was timidly approaching the south of the island (but it did not finally come). A squally wind and fine snow have thoroughly spoiled the nerves of both athletes and spectators. The latter, by the way, showed just iron restraint - even after three hours of races, there were still living and non-frostbitten people in the stands, able to move, applaud and even shout.
For the first time, the Sakhalin land meets a speedway on ice. This is the sport of courageous people, the sport of courageous people. Repeated world champion Sergey Kazakov, master of sports Grigory Laguta, winner of the European championship Roman Akimenko are taking part in the competition today. And, of course, we are rooting for the guys who stand for our region, - the governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako demonstrates his knowledge of the subject. - I think that every time our speedway team will be replenished more and more. We already have a base - our guys are engaged in motocross. We need to test them at the Russian level, at competitions under the auspices of DOSAAF. Today everyone was happy with the competition. Need even more sports events to be an example for young people. This is the first trial balloon, but since it went well, we need to develop it. It would be possible to carry out stages with us official competitions... We have proven that we can prepare for anything in a short time.
However, there were some incidents. Already in the first race, the organizers were let down by the equipment - the starting machine several times refused to release the athletes to the distance. A cunning mechanism with enviable regularity continued to "strangle" the athletes throughout the entire competition day.
18 athletes (16 main and two reserve) defended their right to trophies on the ice track today. The favorite of the race was determined literally from the first races - Eduard Krysov simply did not give his rivals the slightest chance. Pupil sports school CSKA won all their starts and never made a serious mistake.
I was a little more fortunate today than my rivals. All the guys tried to go to the fullest. Today there were more falls, retirements than yesterday. But these are the features of our sport. Struggle, do you understand? There is no getting away from this, - comments the winner of the first prize.
It is noteworthy that on the second day of the race, the commentators of the match especially emphasized that the athlete was playing for the Sakhalin Region. Despite this, the Governor's Cup on the island, apparently, will not remain - Muscovite Eduard does not intend to stay with us, other starts all over the country await him.
The silver medalist of the competition, not without difficulty, was Ilya Panteleev from Khabarovsk - only a victory in the final, twentieth, race allowed him to establish himself on the podium. It is even more interesting with the bronze - here the athletes fought to the last, only an additional race allowed to determine the owner of the junior cup. In it, the athlete from the Amur Region Roman Akimenko won the victory over Pavel Shevchenko - for the Amur resident, the bronze was already the second on Sakhalin.
But the representatives of the island region were not lucky at the Governor's Cup. Yesterday's silver medalist Gleb Shevchenko was unable to complete one of the races - due to problems with the motorcycle, the athlete was forced to withdraw from the race. This, coupled with an uncertain start (Gleb was only third in the first race) did not allow him to claim medals in the tournament. The second “islander” Sergei Logachev made a collision with an opponent in the 16th race and was disqualified by the referee's decision. So, according to the results of the competition, both Sakhalin residents earned 10 points each and took 5th and 6th places.
The intensity of the struggle grew, the guys got used to the ice, the adrenaline began to play, the struggle became tougher - everything went well. The weather was not very good today for the spectators and the starting machine brought me today, there was confusion in two starts. In an amicable way, after this it was necessary to stop. But they decided not to do this - after all, the race was more educational than sports, - the chief judge of the competition Andrei Savin shares his impressions. - But all this is "growing pains". Many regions are not capable of such results in a short time... But Sakhalin coped - they expected, frankly, much worse.
Speedway competitions on ice in the sports class of motorcycles (500 cubic centimeters) were held for the first time this year in the Sakhalin Region. However, according to the organizers of the tournament, they will definitely not become the last - the development of technical sports is now given the green light.
