Bronze Autumn in Paris. The Adventures of the "Skvortsman"

27.10.2017 At the European Championship muay thai Alexander Skvortsov became the third

Alexander Skvortsov returns from his debut adult continental championship with a bronze medal. At a tournament in France, the Nizhny Novgorod fighter confidently won the quarterfinal match, crushing the ring owner, but in the semifinals he stumbled on a more experienced opponent from Ukraine. Skvortsman was not quite satisfied with his performance. But always positive Sasha noted that at the European Championship he received exactly the experience that he needed. And at the same time I looked at Paris.

Alexander Skvortsov told the site in more detail about his French adventures:

About the atmosphere in the national team

Athletes, coaches, administrators, doctors, massage therapists - we all communicate well with each other. I always went to the national team with great desire, when I played for juniors and youth, and now I am once again convinced of how friendly our team is. Therefore, not only young and hungry fighters like me come to the national team, but also real stars who have long made a name for themselves in the professionals ..

For me, the championship in France was the first international tournament at an adult level and, of course, I was nervous about it. But next to friends, everything is transferred much easier. And they surrounded me all the time.

About walks in Paris

We arrived at the tournament a day before the start, so there was a whole day for a tour of Paris. Our team lived in some kind of residential area, but we quickly found the metro and went to the city center to gaze at the Eiffel Tower. It's very beautiful there! And near the tower itself, you can feel some kind of special energy. It even gave me extra strength.

And we, together with my friend from the national team Ira Larionova, took a photo, which will probably become a real Internet meme! In general, we had fun from the heart.

About the quarterfinals and semi-finals

I am always relaxed before a fight. I do not chase unnecessary thoughts in my head. I set myself up for my first fight as usual, although there was additional motivation, because I had to box with the owner of the ring Baboon Guillaume. It was impossible to give the judges the slightest reason to doubt that I was stronger, otherwise I would never have been given the victory. And I boxed just right. My partners in the Russian national team, who supported me throughout the fight, helped a lot. In a strange hall full of French fans, I heard my name being chanted!

Two days later, a semifinal with Ukrainian Vasily Sorokin was waiting for me. I knew that the opponent was strong. I knew that he was more experienced than me and had an advantage in size - much taller. But I imagined how I needed to box and felt confident both before the fight and during it. Even now it seems to me that I have chosen the right tactics for the battle, but after reviewing our fight, I realized that I had to act more aggressively. You had to go forward more, throw more punches. And I gave the ending of the first round and lost it. The same thing happened in the second one. In the third round, I already understood that I was unlikely to be able to turn the tide of the fight, so I just decided to box for my own pleasure. I tried to work effectively: beat the turntables, struck in a jump. In general, I wanted to please myself and the audience.

I have no complaints about the judges - in the semifinals I lost on the case. But I have no doubt that I could have won that battle. I had everything for this. If we happen to meet Vasily Sorokin again, I am sure that I can take revenge.

I got good experience at the European Championships. I will not make such mistakes again.

About partners from Nizhny Novgorod

At the European Championship, four fighters from the Nizhny Novgorod region competed at once. And all my fellow countrymen: Yegor Ischuk, Ekaterina Gurina and Nadir Iskhakov also won medals.

The biggest respect to Egor. He becomes the European champion for the second year in a row. Egor fought from a position of strength, did not give anyone any doubt that he was the best! By the way, he was the second to me at this tournament. It's very cool when there is an old friend in your corner who knows you very well.

Nadir Iskhakov also had all chances for gold. In the semifinals, he confidently dealt with his opponent, and in the final he showed a good even fight with the Belarusian Nikita Shostak. But the victory was awarded to the opponent Nadir.

And Katya Gurina, like me, having won in the quarterfinals, stumbled in the semifinals and was also content with only bronze.

Probably, we could have performed even more successfully. But I learned the way it happened. By the way, Maxim Vinogradov, President of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Thai Boxing Federation, noted that he considers our performance to be successful. And it's nice that he is sure that Katya Gurina and I will definitely improve next season.

"Here we were met in Nizhny Novgorod"

Yes, I almost forgot. Many thanks to Maxim Evgenievich for arranging a warm welcome for us when we returned to Nizhny Novgorod... It was very nice to see my friends from the Pancher-NN fight club on the platform of the Moscow railway station. It immediately became clear that they really root for you. And for an athlete, this is very important!

Having become the best, the Russian national team was able to repeat the success of last year's European Championship in Paris, as well as the recently concluded World Thai Boxing Championship in Cancun. - The scattering of medals in our piggy bank and the first place is the result of serious work carried out by the FTBR, as well as the courage and dedication of our fighters, the responsibility of coaches, doctors, massage therapists, and the entire staff, - said Dmitry Putilin, President of the Russian Thai Boxing Federation, in an interview. - Now our tasks for the future are not only to keep the bar high, but also to move forward, to conquer new heights.
