April 21, 2017.

All-around. Men.

In the men's all-around, Russian Arthur Dalaloyan won silver with a total of 85.498 points. In the fight for gold, Ukrainian Oleg Vernyaev was ahead of Dalaloyan by 0.368 points. Bronze was won by Briton James Hall, and Russian Nikita Ignatiev stopped one step away from the podium.

All-around. Women.

15-year-old Elena Eremina took fourth place in the all-around. British Elissa Downey won the victory, Hungarian Zofia Kovacs was second, and French Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos was third. Another representative of Russia, Natalya Kapitonova, became the ninth.

The coaching staff of the Russian national team is outraged by the refereeing of the women's all-around at the Championship.

“Absolutely incomprehensible decisions were made that deprived Elena Eremina of the bronze,” head coach of the national team Valentina Rodionenko told reporters: “We were outraged by how the three leaders were judged at the end of the competition, when we could not decide who took third place. Here Eremin is shown that she won bronze, and then suddenly she was lowered to fourth place. This angered us terribly. We still cannot understand what was happening there. The Frenchwoman, who eventually won the bronze, came out of nowhere. She was nowhere near. She flunked the bars, flunked a log, and then ended up in third place.

We thought about it and did not file a protest, there is still competition on separate apparatus ahead. Swearing with the judges is useless. If we sum up the performance of our girls in the all-around, then Eremina today did what she was capable of. The only thing, she had no right to make mistakes on the beam. The same goes for Kapitonova. But for the first start at such serious competitions as the European Championship, this is quite normal. "

Rodionenko also stressed that the mistakes of the Russians on the log will become a separate topic for analysis: “The only thing that did not suit us was their fall from the log. But this will be a separate topic for analysis. Otherwise, the girls did what was needed. They have the best marks on the uneven bars, worthy of floor exercises. "

The World Championships in Montreal became the first major tournament of the new Olympic cycle, a kind of initial stage of preparation for the 2020 Olympics. Before the start of the competition, this was also emphasized by the senior coach of the Russian national team. Valentina Rodionenko: “Our tasks are as follows: just do not flinch and speak. This is the first such serious start of the Olympic cycle, everyone is looking at each other. It's like a foundation for the years to come. "

The composition of the national team fully corresponded to the speeches of the coaching staff: there were many new faces in the team. And if Nikita Ignatieva gymnastics fans remembered for their excellent performance at the European Games in Baku, then Sergey Eltsov and Arthur Dalaloyan this is the first time we have reached such a high international level. There were new faces in the women's team: Melnikova and Paseka, who had been tested by Olympiada, joined the Canadian tournament Elena Eremina and Anastasia Ilyankova prepared to surprise the audience.

Looking at the updated roster and mindful of the controversial 2015 World Cup, where Russian men did not win a single medal, and women won three titles at once, the national team coaches abandoned all sorts of plans and predictions: "No medal plans are needed here, God forbid," - noticed Valentina Rodionenko shortly before the start of the tournament.

The composition of the Russian national team at the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships

Victory for the President

Men clearly did not want to remain at the World Cup without awards, as two years ago. Having missed their chance in the all-around, the Russians planned to recoup in certain events. Fortunately, they managed to qualify for five of the six finals. Unfortunately, Arthur Dalaloyan It was not possible to surprise the judges and spectators in the vault, but the more experienced gymnasts did what they can do well. won silver in horseback exercises and bronze on uneven bars, leaving only the Olympic champions in these disciplines ahead. It is worth noting that for David, these medals were the first at the world championships in seven years of his performances, and he won his third award - silver on the rings. And this time the Russian athlete lost to the Olympic champion - the Greek Petrunias, who won all the starts for the third year in a row.

There was also a place for gold in a solid collection of medals. , specializing in vault, managed to defend the world champion title in her favorite discipline. It is curious that the gymnast dedicated her victory to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was celebrating another birthday on October 7. Surely the head of the country was glad for Elena Eremina, which on the same day added silver on the uneven bars to the bronze of the all-around. Anastasia Ilyankova was close to climbing the pedestal too, but, losing just over one tenth point to the Belgian Derval, was in fourth place.

Record repetition

As a result, the Russian national team won six awards, repeating the best result of the decade shown in 2010, 2011 and 2014. In Canada, only the Chinese won the same number of awards, and no one could win more. Such a start of a new Olympic cycle can only rejoice. It is especially pleasant that new stars are lit in the Russian team: I want to believe that Eremina and Ilyankova will only add up over time. The same applies to the young change in the men's team, even if they did not perform too brightly in Montreal.

However, the tournament in Canada will leave not only pleasant memories. The fact is that many athletes, coaches and heads of delegations had questions to the organizers of the competition, who, for the sake of television, did not give the athletes enough time to test the apparatus - hence a lot of mistakes and injuries. Valentina Rodionenko noted that the World Cup in Montreal will go down in history as the tournament with the most injuries among athletes. Fortunately, the Russian team was spared these misadventures, but due to injury, for example, the three-time Olympic champion dropped out of the fight Kohei Uchimura, preparing to compete for the next couple of awards.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships kicked off in Montreal, Canada, the first in a four-year cycle of preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This is an important enough start for the athletes to strive to show their maximum at it, but at the same time it is still far enough away from the Games to test the youth at this tournament. Lidia Ivanova, two-time Olympic champion and honored coach of the USSR, even called the upcoming world championship "reconnaissance".

“The competition at this championship will be very tough, however, as always. Moreover, we passed the Olympics last year, and this championship will be of particular interest to the coaches of the national team and those responsible for the development of our team in order to conduct reconnaissance in force, ”R-Sport quotes.

- We need to open our eyes wide, open them wide and study what competitors are preparing - we have always had and will have a lot of them.

We always have to resist and try to demonstrate, to some extent, advancing gymnastics. "

This is what the coaching staff of the Russian national team did. The maximum possible composition of the team went to Canada - six men and four women. As part of the "testing" of the younger generation, David Belyavsky, Denis Ablyazin, Nikita Nagorny and Artur, who have already proved their skills, were joined by 20-year-old Sergei Yeltsov, who had never competed at such a level before, limiting himself to participation in the Russian Championship and the National Cup.

“Sergei has excellent parallel bars - he won them at the last Russian Cup, the crossbar is also good.

He is also strong on horseback exercises. We, the coaches, are especially pleased that we have someone to choose from when determining the composition of the national team, ”the senior coach of the Russian national team commented on the choice of the young Yeltsov.

It was decided that the debutant of the national team will perform in exercises on uneven bars and on horseback. In the traditionally difficult individual all-around, the country was represented by Belyavsky and, who won silver medals at Rio 2016 in team competition. In the floor exercise, the honor of Russia was entrusted to defend the 20-year-old Dalaloyan, who made a name for himself relatively recently, in the spring of 2017, when he brilliantly performed at the European Championships in Romania, winning silver in the all-around and gold in the vault. The five-time Olympic medalist Ablyazin was supposed to show himself on the rings, and Ignatiev in the exercises on the crossbar.

As for the female composition of the Russian national team, difficulties arose here. Initially, only two candidates were clear - a 17-year-old (silver in Rio 2016) and a 16-year-old who successfully performed at the last European Championship, taking second place there. The other two seats were vacant.

It was impossible to count on the main star of Russian artistic gymnastics in recent years, Aliya Mustafina: she is just gaining shape after giving birth and will have time to return, the fastest, to the 2018 Russian Championship.

As a result, the coaching staff decided to arrange a strength test for 18-year-old Anastasia Ilyankova, who took first place on the uneven bars at the Summer Cup of Russia. The girl forced her recovery from an old spinal injury, which suddenly made itself felt three weeks before the World Cup, and still came to Montreal.

The last place in the squad was closed by experienced Maria Paseka, who was given a chance to improve for her failure at the Summer Universiade. It is in this composition that our girls will soon enter the fight for awards in the vault, floor exercise, as well as competitions on the uneven bars and beam.

In total, about 500 participants from 80 countries arrived in Canada, but now the competition has begun only for men - they are in the midst of qualifying for the final.

Of the Russians, Belyavsky is the best at the moment, who took third place in the qualification of the individual all-around, gaining 85.839 points after completing six exercises. David calmly qualified for the finals of the competition, which will be held on the night of October 5-6, Moscow time. Also, the Russian reached the finals in exercises on separate apparatus - the crossbar (14.208 points), the uneven bars (15.066) and the horse (14.666).

“I am very pleased with Belyavsky and the fact that we brought him back to the all-around,” said Valery Alfosov, senior coach of the Russian men's national artistic gymnastics team. - 2018 is a qualifying year, we will try to get a license for the Olympic Games, and all-round athletes will be worth their weight in gold.

We are very pleased with today's performance by Belyavsky. In Europe, he only made two shells, and now he is making six, it was a big step. "

The second representative of Russia in the all-around - Nagorny - unexpectedly failed, taking only tenth place in the qualification with 82.598 points, but still has chances to get into the decisive stage of the competition: 24 best gymnasts get there, but you still have to wait for the last group of participants to perform.

“Nagorny, the winner of the Russian Cup, was the best for the tournament, but he absolutely failed. Of course, we are unhappy with his performance, very unfortunate. Nikita grabbed his back after an unsuccessful landing on the vault? There is no injury. When you don't know what to say, grab your back, as if it hurts, ”commented on the performances of the gymnast Alfosov, who, on the whole, is not yet very happy with the way the World Championship is going.

- The performances of the gymnasts were uninteresting - neither the Chinese, nor the Japanese, nor the Americans, nor the British, nor ours. There are a lot of falls, a lot of injuries. "

Also, Dalaloyan did not perform very well, showing only the ninth result (14.683) in the vault. He will definitely not make it to the final, since only eight of the best athletes are allowed there. In floor exercise, the Russians will also not be able to compete for a medal - the highest result was shown by Belyavsky, and this was 15th place (13.933). Unfortunately, young Eltsov has not yet been able to prove himself in all his glory, taking only 14th place in exercises on uneven bars and 54th - on a horse.

“We also brought new gymnasts to Montreal, Yeltsov. There was no task before him.

He is a champion of the Russian Cup, they brought him on a sporting basis, they wanted to see how he would psychologically withstand this whole gymnastic "mess". To see how the judges will perceive him, the guy is interesting, we are also planning him at Tokyo 2020. Dalaloyan also failed to show his level, which is also a shame, ”complained Alfosov.

The only really positive moment - in addition to the brilliant performance of Belyavsky - was Ablyazin's second place in exercises on the rings (15,333), thanks to which he confidently made it to the final. It will be possible to cheer for him on October 7 and 8, when the decisive stages of the competition in certain types will take place.
