Prince Harry is a fan of the football club. How the royal family supported the England team

The finalists of the 2018 FIFA World Cup have been decided, and among them there is no England team. Prince William was a fan of the national team (and several relatives even joined His Highness) throughout the championship and especially on July 11, in the semi-final match, but the British could not beat the Croats.

William has been the president of the Football Association of England since 2006 and before the start of the semi-final match, he hastened to support the players with an encouraging video on Twitter.

“Guys, good luck tonight. We are very worried. You surprised throughout the tournament. I wish you all the best today,” His Highness said. At the end, William uttered lines from the Three Lions song, the unofficial anthem of the English fans: “It's coming home. Come on England!”.

The composition was recorded by The Lightning Seeds in 1996 for the European Football Championship, which was held in England. And the line “It's coming home”, in particular, indicates that England is the birthplace of football (although not all historians agree with this). On July 7, the Three Lions song performed by the royal guard orchestra sounded at the walls of Buckingham Palace.

Prince William does not have his own social media account, but during the World Cup he posted several tweets signed W on the official Kensington Palace account in support of the England footballers.

It all started on July 3 with congratulations after winning the match against Colombia in the 1/8 finals. “I couldn't be more proud of @england's penalty win! ( the match ended with the victory of the English in a series of free kicks 4:3 ─ approx. ed.) You have earned a great and honest place in the top eight # worldcup and you should know that everyone will be with you on Saturday! Forward, England!” the prince reacted emotionally.

Yesterday, April 27, at the stadium "Vicente Calderon" during the semi-final of the Champions League was, as always, a full house. Places of honor in the ranks of the fans were taken by King Philip VI of Spain and his 10-year-old daughter Princess Leonor. They were rooting, of course, for Atlético Madrid. To the delight of His Highness, the Spanish club won, leaving behind the German Bayern.

If for Philip, going to football is one of his favorite ways to spend free time, Princess Leonor attended such an event for the first time. She had someone to explain all the nuances of what was happening right hand sitting from her Main coach Spain national team Vincente del Bosque.

The Royal Family of Spain is devotedly rooting for the clubs of their native country and, of course, for the Spanish national team. Whenever possible, the monarchs are present at the main battles - be it the Champions League final or the World Cup. Knowing about such attention of the royal house to football, fans draw their attention to various issues. So, in 2014, at the coronation ceremony of Philip VI, they staged a mass protest - the day before, the Spanish national team suddenly flew out of the World Cup, failing to leave the group stage.

Representatives of other royal houses also experience love for football. How do they decide which of the many clubs in their country to vote for? - A funny answer to this score was once issued by an Aston Villa fan, Prince William:

When it was time to decide who I was rooting for, I began to look at different clubs. All my high school buddies were either Manchester United or Chelsea. I didn't want predictability. I was looking for a team that was not as stable and allowed me to experience emotions like a roller coaster.

The latest news from the royal family is that Harry will not be coming to Russia for the World Cup either.

The visit is rumored to have been postponed after the assassination attempt on former Russian agent Sergei Skripal. A retired military intelligence officer, along with his daughter, was found unconscious in Britain on March 4. They are currently in the hospital.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the UK would respond "toughly" if Russia was found to have carried out the attack. Sanctions will be imposed and UK dignitaries will not attend the World Cup in Russia.

The Russian government, in turn, denies involvement in the attempted murder of Skripal and his daughter, noting that it would be glad to cooperate with the British police if necessary.

Moreover, Prince William is the President of the Football Association and is therefore expected to take part in the event or send a representative on his behalf.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are getting ready for their wedding. The celebration will take place on the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. It is interesting that, according to the belief of a relative of the American actress, future spouses in the first year after the wedding. The star of the series "Force Majeure" has long dreamed of becoming a mother, and the grandson of Elizabeth II is exactly the one who, in her opinion, will become a great father.
