Germany - Hungary, 3: 2

Morlock (10), Run (18, 84) - Puskash (6), Cybor (8)

The Soviet Union lost the 1952 Olympics and refused to go to the World Cup. The officials considered that our football was too raw, and there was no need to embarrass ourselves.

The main favorites were the Hungarians. The team, led by Puskas and Kocis, even knocked out Brazil, but sank in the final, torpedoed by the Germans. Although in the group match Germany lost to Hungary - 3: 8. Then coach Gerberger didn’t put out the main players, and defender Liebrich inflicted a serious injury on Puskas.

The best scorer was the Frenchman Just Fontaine, although his team took only bronze.

In the final, Pele made a double and was so emotional that he needed the help of doctors.

1962, Chile

Brazil 3-1 Czechoslovakia

Amarildo (17), Zito (69), Vava (78) - Masopust (15)

In 1960, Chile was hit by the strongest earthquake (9.5 points). They wanted to take away the tournament, but the president of the Chilean Football Federation Dittborn exclaimed: "Leave the World Cup, we already have nothing left!" He died a month before the start, and the opening match Uruguay - Colombia (2: 1) was held at a stadium named after Dittborn.

The USSR won the group (2: 0 with Yugoslavia, 4: 4 with Colombia, 2: 1 with Uruguay), but lost to Chile in the quarterfinals (1: 2).

In the match with the Uruguayans, the referee scored Chislenko's goal, but the captain of Netto pointed out the error to the referee: the ball flew into the hole in the net. This is considered a paragon of fair play.

The best performance of our team! 3: 0 with North Korea, 1: 0 with Italy, 2: 1 with Chile in the group, 2: 1 with the Hungarians in the quarterfinals. And the fourth place after defeats from Germany (1: 2) and Portugal (1: 2) in the bronze match.

England became the only champion. Hirst scored a hat-trick in the final. The third goal was scored by linesman Bahramov, although the moment was very controversial. The Germans gave the nickname to the arbiter Herr Zwei-dry (Mr 2: 3). According to legend, when Bakhramov was asked before his death whether he had a goal, he replied: "Stalingrad". Like, this is revenge on the Germans for the war.

1970, Mexico

Brazil 4-1 Italy

Pele (18), Gerson (66), Jairzinho (71), Alberto (86) - Boninsegna (37)

El Salvador defeated Honduras in the qualifying group, and a military conflict began between the countries. It was named La guerra del fútbol (Football War). 6,000 people died.

The Brazilians became champions for the third time in a row and received forever the Jules Rimet Cup - the President of FIFA, who organized the first World Cup. Trophy in the form of Nika, the goddess of victory (30 cm, 1.8 kg of gold). And in 1983, the cup was stolen from the office of the Brazilian Football Federation, and it disappeared forever.

Pele became the only player to win the World Cup three times.

1974, Germany

Germany - Holland, 2: 1

Breitner (25), Muller (43) - Neskens (2)

England, Spain, France, Portugal, Hungary, the USSR did not qualify for the World Cup.

Holland showed a new model - “total football”. Its essence is that the whole team should work out in defense and attack.

But in the final, the Dutch were run over by the "German car" in which Mueller, nicknamed Little Fat Gerd, shone.

A couple of days before the final, the Bild tabloid came out with a story that the Dutch leader Cruyff was having fun in the pool with naked German women and drinking champagne. The guy had to make excuses to his wife: "Nothing happened!" But he was unsettled.

For the first time in the championship, doping control was used. The first victim was the Haitian Jean-Joseph, who was exiled in disgrace.

1978, Argentina

Argentina - Holland, 3: 1

Kempes (38, 105), Bertoni (115) - Nanninga (82)

The USSR lost to the Hungarians in the selection and again did not make it to the World Championship.

After the match Peru - Scotland (3: 1), ephedrine was found in the blood of Scottish striker Willie Johnston. The next morning the newspapers came out with the headlines "Shame on you, Willie!"

Argentina defeated Peru in the semifinal group with the required score (6: 0) and advanced to the final, leaving Brazil behind. The world press cried out that the hosts had played a negotiated match. And the Briton David Yallop even wrote the book How the Game was Stolen. They say that the head of the Argentine junta Videla transferred $ 50 million and 35 thousand tons of grain to Peruvian officials. FIFA did not investigate, but simply banned Yallop's book.

Before the tournament, Argentina, to the surprise of many, unhooked the 17-year-old prodigy Maradona from the roster. But I still became a champion.

1982, Spain

Italy - Germany, 3: 1

Rossi (57), Tardelli (69), Altobelli (81) - Breitner (83)

The tournament began to be called "mundi-al", which in Spanish means "world".

The biggest victory in World Cup history was won by Hungary, beating El Salvador 10-1.

In the France - Kuwait match, the Soviet referee Stupar scored a dubious French goal. Kuwaiti sheikh Fahd al-Sabah entered the field, took the team to the locker room and began to demand that Stupar cancel the goal. He agreed and ... was disqualified for life by FIFA: he did not stand up for the honor of the referee's uniform.

The USSR left the group (1: 2 with Brazil, 3: 0 with New Zealand, 2: 2 with Scotland), but in the second round stumbled on Poland (1: 0 with Belgium, 0: 0 with the Poles) - we played on defense when victory was needed.

The top scorer was the Italian Rossi (6 goals), who was disqualified for two years in 1979 and jailed for betting fraud.

1986, Mexico

Argentina - West Germany, 3: 2

Brown (23), Valdano (55), Burruchaga (83) - Rummenigge (74), Feller (80)

Colombia was preparing for the role of organizer, but refused due to economic problems. Mexico hosted the World Cup for the second time, although eight months earlier suffered a devastating earthquake (25 thousand people died).

The tournament became a star for Maradona. The Argentine scored two super goals in the quarterfinals with England (2: 1) - after a chic solo pass ("goal of the century") and a hand that the referee did not notice. Maradona acknowledged this and said: "It was the hand of God."

The USSR played brightly (6: 0 with Hungary, 1: 1 with France, 2: 0 with Canada), but in the 1/8 finals we were beaten by Belgium (4: 3) with the help of the Swedish referee Fredriksson.

In the final, Maradona gave the golden pass to Burruchaga. At home, the success of the Argentine national team was celebrated by 30 million fans.

1990, Italy

Germany - Argentina, 1: 0

Breme (85)

The USSR, England and Greece claimed to host the 1990 World Cup. But in 1984, this right was given to Italy.

The Union was disintegrating, and the national team was on its way. We didn't even make it out of the group (0: 2 with Romania, 0: 2 with Argentina, 4: 0 with Cameroon).

Cameroon, under the guidance of our coach Nepomniachtchi, became a troublemaker, reaching the quarterfinals, where it stupidly did not beat England.

In the 1/8 final match, the Dutchman Rijkaard made the famous spit at the German Feller. Both were removed.

The Germans reached the final for the third time in a row. And yet they pulled Argentina! Maradona accused FIFA of being deliberately killed, and Breme's penalty was fake.

1994, USA

Brazil 0-0 Italy (3-2 pins)

Salenko scored five goals when Russia defeated Cameroon (6-1) and won the Golden Boot as the World Cup's top scorer. But the national team did not leave the group (0: 2 with Brazil, 1: 3 with Sweden).

Cameroonian Milla became the oldest footballer in World Cup history - 42 years and 39 days.

The great Maradona was removed from the tournament simply because ephedrine, norephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norpseudoephedrine and methylephedrine were found in his blood.

Since ancient times, various beliefs and traditions have been associated with leap years. Today we will talk about what a woman can ask a man on a leap day on February 29, but he has no right to refuse.

There is an old European custom, according to which once every four years - February 29 - a woman can ask for a hand (propose to marry her) from a man, and not vice versa. AND at the same time, a man has no right to just refuse from this offer - he must either agree or "pay off" (pay a "fine" for refusal). In monetary terms, the "penalty" is equal to the cost of 12 pairs of gloves. It is believed that this is how many pairs of gloves a woman will need to hide the absence of a wedding ring until the next leap day.

This tradition originated in Ireland in the 4th century AD, when Saint Patrick, who spread Christianity in the country, allowed women to make marriage proposals to men once every four years. This was done in order to "balance" the roles of men and women in society, just as the leap day on February 29 balances the calendar.

In the Middle Ages, in a number of European countries, this rule was even approved at the legislative level. For example, in the 13th century in Scotland, when young knights died en masse in battles and many girls could not find a mate, a law was passed according to which a woman could propose to a man on February 29, and if he refused, he was obliged to pay a fine ... Similar laws were passed at different times in England, Denmark and other countries.

And even in Russia there was a similar tradition.... Only for "our" girls the opportunity to call a loved one into husbands worked not for one day, but throughout the whole leap year. The leap year was called the "year of the bride", while matchmakers could not be sent to the girls, because they themselves chose their future husbands. Since then, in Russia, a leap year has been considered unsuccessful for a wedding, since men did not have the opportunity to choose their own bride.

There are five stars above the emblem of the Brazilian national football team. This indicates that it is the Brazilians who are considered the most titled football power. This team has won the world championships five times - in 1952, 1958, 1970, 1994 and 2002. World football legend Pele holds the record for titles. He won three world championships with his national team.

Italy

In Europe, two football teams are called tetracampions, one of them is the national team of Italy. The Italians celebrated their triumphs at the world championships in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006. History preserves many names of great Italians who were honored to raise the coveted trophy over their heads. Some of them still delight the fans with their performances in the jersey of the national team (Buffon, Pirlo, Barzagli).

Germany (FRG)

The national team of Germany (FRG) is not inferior to the Italians in titles. At the moment, it is the Germans who are the reigning world champions. The national team, nicknamed the "German car", took the lead on the football fields in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. The names of Gerd Müller, Lothar Matthäus and other great football players will forever remain in the history of world sports.

Argentina

A country like Argentina with its outstanding football talents simply could not remain without the title of world champion. Twice the Argentines, led by Mario Kempes and Diego Maradona, managed to win the world championships. Kempes starred at the 1978 home championship, and Diego led his national team to the title in Mexico in 1986.

Uruguay

The first world champions in football were the Uruguayans. For the first time, the world football championship among national teams was held in this country (1930). For the second time, the Uruguayan national team won in 1950 at the championship in Brazil. In the final at the Maracanã stadium, in the presence of 200 thousand spectators, the Uruguayans beat the hosts of the championship.

England

The founders of football also did not remain without the title of the best football team in the world. At the 1966 home world championship, it was the hosts who became the champions of the championship.

France

The home tribunes also helped the French. Zinedine Zidane's squad triumphantly performed at the home world championship in 1998. In the final, the French defeated the main contenders for the gold of the Brazilians (who were the reigning champions at that time) with a score of 3: 0.

Spain

The tournament held in South Africa in 2010 is recognized as the most pragmatic world football championship in recent decades. In a competition scanty for bright matches and goals, the Spaniards excelled. The very final of that championship fully reflects the specifics of the entire world championship. The Spanish national team only outplayed the Netherlands team in extra time with a score of 1: 0.
