Biography

Davids, the son of a laborer and cleaning lady from Suriname, received no education other than the compulsory one. He was born in the capital of Suriname, Paramaribo, but grew up in Holland, in Amsterdam, where he left with his parents. Edgar lived in the northern, most disadvantaged area of Amsterdam. He grew up on the street, and when the little football player was found by "good uncles from Ajax", he was already leading a gang of the same black teenagers. At Ajax, he immediately became friends with other Surinamese, especially Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert. They formed the core of the "new wave". They held on to each other, reacted painfully to any racist antics, real or imagined, and did not get along very well with veterans and coaches.

Already at the age of 17, Davids got into the base of Ajax and in 1992 won the UEFA Cup. 1995 was a triumph for Ajax and for Edgar as well.

By the age of 24, his trophy collection already had victories in the Champions Cup, European Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup. In addition, Davids was the Dutch champion three times and once won the Dutch Cup.

He barely had time to recover from his 1996 eye injury and make it to the European Championships. He spent the first match of the championship faded and was taken out of the base for the next game. A conflict with Hiddink immediately followed, and then disappeared from the national team for 2 years. On the eve of Euro-96, Pitbull replaced Ajax with Milan. But it was Milan that started the free fall. Davids broke his leg and ruined his relationship with Fabio Capello. “Coming to Milan was a big mistake, - admitted Edgar. - It was the most bitter experience in my club career. But I tried to learn something positive for myself in this situation. Namely: I realized that to be a world-class footballer - means to keep yourself under control. "

Midway through the 97/98 season, Juventus bought Davids to bolster the squad ahead of the Champions League decisive stage. Although there was everything in Juve, Edgar came to the court “in black and white”, became one of the leaders.

Despite the hostility between Hiddink and “Pitbull”, the first could not help but take Davids to the World Cup in France. And he made the right decision. A powerful blow from Davids in the last minute of the match with the Yugoslav national team brought the Orange access to the quarterfinals.

In “Juve” in the 98/99 season there were big problems, but Edgar, together with his partners, withstood everything and soon (in 2002, 2003) won the Italian championship. Reaching the Champions League final in 2003 was a failure. which could ruin Davids the entire season. There were rumors about his sale to “Roma”, “Barça”, but Edgar nevertheless decided to extend his contract with “Juventus”. Davids remains one of the most popular footballers in the world and one of the best in his position.

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst: “He's just a midfielder, which is no longer. The first time I saw him in the“ Ajax ”- he was a couple of years older than me, but even then he had great ability and amazing dribbling. However, he is no other like a player who knows how to win the ball, who understands that the team always comes first. Like Roy Keane, Edgar is the soul of any team. His spirit is incredible. "

Patrick Kluivert: "He is a very important midfield player: very aggressively fighting for the ball, but very correct. He will not hit you just like that, if you know what I mean. Any team needs a player like Edgar Davids. I like his style. games, and he's a very good friend. "

Mario Melchiot: "I don't cling to Edgar because he is one of my friends. I think he is one of the best midfielders. He has great left foot control, he is skillful, he fights and he is so strong. Maybe he is small, but this little package has it all. He knows when to defend, when to attack, he has a great positional flair. When he really wants to get hold of the ball, he spins around you like a wasp until he wins. Off the field he can to joke all the time, but on the field he is off. "

Davids glasses

Edgar Davids - the only bespectacled man in football, became such by accident. His right eye was found to have glaucoma caused by an eye trauma back in 1995. Did the operation. But since then, he began to need dark glasses. FIFA by a special decree allowed Davids to take "prohibited" drugs and play in "safe" glasses. When discussing the issue at the FIFA meeting, they recalled a certain Annibal Frossi, who wore ordinary minus points, but won the Olympic Games in 1936 with the Italian national team, and, of course, the great bespectacled basketball player from the Los Angeles Lakers, Karim Abdul-Jabbar. Davids ordered a pair of glasses like Karim's.

By that time, he had already won so many trophies that one of the rooms had to be converted into a museum. The Champions Cup and the UEFA Cup, three league titles with Ajax, and all sorts of cups and medals of a slightly inferior quality.

And yet Edgar Davids opened up to the Ukrainian fan in the broadest sense of this concept in March 1998, when he had already managed to break the woods and break his leg in Milan. After an unsuccessful period at San Siro, he had just moved to Juventus, so he sought to establish himself in the best possible way.

A benefit performance of Davids took place in Kiev. A short, but well-built, dark-skinned footballer with dreadlocks stood out noticeably on the far from ideal pitch of Olimpiyskiy. He skillfully intercepted the ball in the center of the field, snatched it, gnawed it from opponents - like a pit bull. “Dynamo” Lobanovskiy lost (1: 4) not only because of the phenomenal play of Pippo Inzaghi, who scored a hat-trick. Attacks originate from the depths, where Edgar Davids felt himself to be the master.

“This is one of the best midfielders, - says Mario Melhiot, defender of the Dutch national team“ zero ”. - He has great control of the left foot, agile, and so strong! you have to defend, when you attack, he has a great positional flair. When he really wants to take possession of the ball, he, like a wasp, spins around you until he wins. "

Genes and character. Davids was born in Paramaribo, the capital of exotic Suriname, which has long fed the Dutch national team with real pearls in boots. The father is a simple worker. Mother is a cleaning lady. The family barely made ends meet and flew across the Atlantic with their last savings to start a new life in Amsterdam. Davids settled in the north of the city - in the poorest and most criminal quarter. In fact - a ghetto.

From childhood, Edgar learned to defend himself and his friends, often returned home with a split lip, a black eye and a torn shirt. With courage and fists, he earned the trust of a collective of little tomboys - he even headed their brigade. However, the scouts of “Ajax” intervened in time, who saw football talent in the energetic hooligan. Yes, between the “shooters” and the showdown, Edgar had a good trick with the ball.

Until the age of 24, almost all the main titles of club football have obeyed him. The only thing missing was the achievements with the national team. A trip to Euro 1996 would be a great opportunity to fill this gap, but the character this time played a cruel joke with Davids. I got nasty on Guus Hiddink, the head coach of the “orange”, and ended up outside the line-up. Two years later, Gus will forgive everything and take “Pit Bull” to the World Cup in France, and he will thank the coach with a decisive goal against Yugoslavia, leading Holland to the quarterfinals.

Oh, this stormy youth. Edgar had no better friends in Ajax than Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert. The same skill level, the same Surinamese roots, the same skin color. These guys always stuck together and gave an aggressive rebuff to anyone who had the imprudence to blurt out something about their racial difference.

Once Davids was left alone with two fans who caught up with his car and persistently wanted to chat on teasing topics. Edgar stopped, went out of the car and gave both of them such kicks that "even Denmark shuddered." "He will not hit you just like that," said Patrick Kluivert about his comrade. This was a lesson for the provocateurs: do not annoy the native of the Amsterdam ghetto - he went through such that you never dreamed of.

In Italy, they did not yet know about Davids' tough character. As soon as he moved to Milan, the authoritative uncle Costacurta threw a painful phrase at the newcomer, calling him a "rotten apple." A hook to the jaw dropped the Italian to the ground - literally and figuratively. Then - the conflict with Fabio Capello, then - a serious injury and the status of a substitute.

“The move to Milan was a huge mistake,” Edgar recalled. “It was the most bitter experience of my club career.”

Juve brought Davids back to football. He also gave me strength to continue performing at a high level, despite serious eye problems. Glaucoma is a disease that occurs as a result of increased intraocular pressure. Symptoms are headache and a significant decrease in visual acuity. All of this clung to Pitbull on the rise of a career. Tie up? Never!

A way out of a very difficult situation was found - Edgar was ordered special glasses that do not break. They are practically weightless and with "blowing" - so that the glass does not sweat. FIFA gave Davids the green light by a special decree - he became the only player to wear glasses.

Neither vision problems nor long-term disqualification for using nandrolone have shaken Davids' reputation as a high-profile footballer. After six years in Turin, the Dutchman moved to Barcelona, then a season at Inter, two seasons at Tottenham, a return to Ajax. It was a bright path of an unforgettable football player who became a symbol of the era of the 90s.

Someone would be resting on their laurels, enjoying former merits, working in a prestigious administrative position. Someone but not Edgar Davids. At the age of 39, "Piranha" (another nickname of our hero) resigned as a member of the supervisory board of "Ajax" and dived headlong into the thick of the English quagmire, becoming the playing coach of the Barnet club. There he managed to get three red cards in one season and focused exclusively on coaching. For a short time - resignation.

Now Davids is in his fifties. Energy continues to boil and will certainly lead him to new challenges and adventures.

Davids, the son of a laborer and cleaning lady from Suriname, received no education other than the compulsory one. V 2003 year Davids, along with Rain Giggs and , became the face of the FIFA game 2003 ... In addition to the fact that the player got on the cover of the game, he starred for the opening video of a football simulator.

V 2004 the midfielder was sent by Marcello Lippi to polish the bench due to poor physical condition. It was then that Barca got in a hurry, in the treasury of which there were "extra" money after parting with Andersson and Bonano. Now Davids had little choice, and he quickly agreed to change the black and white colors to blue and garnet.

At this time in Barcelona, Davids' idol-friend Frank Rijkaard was at the helm. He entrusted him with a place at the base! Barcelona in this championship was in the quagmire of the standings. It was thanks to Davids' phenomenal performance that Barca did the impossible! Took silver medals of the Spanish championship!

Achievements

Excerpt from Davids, Edgar

- Does he love you?
- Does she love? Natasha repeated with a smile of regret about her friend's lack of understanding. - You read the letter, did you see it?
- But if he is an ignoble person?
"He! ... an ignoble man?" If you only knew! - Natasha said.
- If he is a noble person, then he must either declare his intention, or stop seeing you; and if you don’t want to do it, then I’ll do it, I’ll write to him, I’ll tell Daddy, ”Sonya said resolutely.
- Yes, I can not live without him! Cried Natasha.
- Natasha, I don't understand you. And what are you saying! Remember your father, about Nicolas.
- I do not need anyone, I do not love anyone but him. How dare you say that he is ignoble? Don't you know that I love him? - Natasha shouted. “Sonia, go away, I don’t want to quarrel with you, go away, for God's sake, go away: you see how I suffer,” Natasha shouted angrily in a restrained irritated and desperate voice. Sonya burst into tears and ran out of the room.
Natasha went to the table and, without thinking for a minute, wrote the answer to Princess Marya, which she could not write the whole morning. In this letter, she briefly wrote to Princess Marya that all their misunderstandings were over, that, taking advantage of the generosity of Prince Andrew, who gave her freedom when leaving, she asks her to forget everything and forgive her if she is to blame for her, but that she cannot be his wife ... All this seemed to her so easy, simple and clear at that moment.

On Friday, the Rostovs were supposed to go to the village, and on Wednesday the count went with the buyer to his Moscow region.
On the day the count left, Sonya and Natasha were invited to a big dinner at the Karagin's, and Marya Dmitrievna took them. At this dinner Natasha again met with Anatole, and Sonya noticed that Natasha was saying something to him, wishing not to be heard, and during the dinner she was even more agitated than before. When they returned home, Natasha began the first with Sonya the explanation that her friend had been waiting for.
- Here you, Sonya, said various nonsense about him, - Natasha began in a meek voice, the voice that children speak when they want to be praised. - We have explained to him today.
- Well, what, what? Well, what did he say? Natasha, how glad I am that you are not angry with me. Tell me everything, the whole truth. What did he say?
Natasha pondered.
- Oh Sonya, if you knew him as I do! He said ... He asked me how I promised Bolkonsky. He was glad that it was up to me to refuse him.
Sonya sighed sadly.
“But you didn’t refuse Bolkonsky,” she said.
- Or maybe I refused! Maybe it's all over with Bolkonsky. Why do you think so badly of me?
- I don't think anything, I just don't understand it ...
- Wait, Sonya, you will understand everything. You will see what kind of person he is. Don't think bad things about me or about him.
- I do not think bad about anyone: I love everyone and feel sorry for everyone. But what should I do?
Sonya did not give up on the gentle tone with which Natasha addressed her. The softer and more searching was the expression on Natasha's face, the more serious and stern Sonya's face was.
“Natasha,” she said, “you asked me not to speak to you, I didn’t speak, now you yourself started. Natasha, I don't believe him. Why is this secret?
- Again, again! Natasha interrupted.
- Natasha, I'm afraid for you.
- Why be afraid?
“I’m afraid that you will ruin yourself,” Sonya said resolutely, herself frightened by what she said.
Natasha's face again expressed anger.
- And I will ruin, I will ruin, I will ruin myself as soon as possible. None of your business. Not you, but I will feel bad. Leave, leave me. I hate you.
- Natasha! - Sonya cried out in fright.
- I hate, I hate! And you are my enemy forever!
Natasha ran out of the room.
Natasha did not speak to Sonya anymore and avoided her. With the same expression of agitated surprise and criminality, she walked about the rooms, taking now and then for another occupation and immediately abandoning them.
No matter how hard it was for Sonya, she, without taking her eyes off, watched her friend.
On the eve of the day on which the count was supposed to return, Sonya noticed that Natasha had been sitting all morning at the drawing-room window, as if expecting something, and that she had made some sign to the passing soldier whom Sonya took for Anatole.
Sonya began to observe her friend even more attentively and noticed that Natasha was in a strange and unnatural state all the time of dinner and in the evening (she answered inappropriately to questions made to her, began and did not finish phrases, laughed at everything).
After tea, Sonya saw a timid maid girl who was waiting for her at Natasha's door. She let her in and, overhearing at the door, learned that a letter had been handed over again. And suddenly it became clear to Sonya that Natasha had some terrible plan for this evening. Sonya knocked on her door. Natasha did not let her in.
“She will run away with him! thought Sonya. She is capable of anything. Today there was something particularly pitiful and resolute in her face. She burst into tears, saying goodbye to her uncle, Sonya recalled. Yes it is true, she is running with him - but what should I do? " thought Sonya, recalling now those signs which clearly proved why Natasha had some terrible intention. “There is no graph. What should I do, write to Kuragin, demanding an explanation from him? But who tells him to answer? Write to Pierre, as Prince Andrei asked in case of misfortune? ... But maybe, in fact, she already refused Bolkonsky (she sent a letter to Princess Marya yesterday). There is no uncle! " To tell Marya Dmitrievna, who believed in Natasha so much, seemed awful to Sonya. “But one way or another, Sonia thought, standing in the dark corridor: now or never is the time to prove that I remember the good deeds of their family and love Nicolas. No, I won't sleep for at least three nights, but I won't leave this corridor and won't let her in by force, and I won't let the shame fall on their family, ”she thought.

Anatol recently moved to Dolokhov. The plan to kidnap Rostova had already been thought out and prepared by Dolokhov for several days, and on the day when Sonya, having overheard Natasha at the door, decided to protect her, this plan had to be carried out. Natasha at ten o'clock in the evening promised to go out to Kuragin's back porch. Kuragin had to put her in a prepared troika and take her 60 versts from Moscow to the village of Kamenka, where a cropped priest was prepared to marry them. In Kamenka, a setup was ready, which was supposed to take them out to the Warsaw road, and there they had to ride the post office abroad.
Anatol had a passport, and a travel document, and ten thousand money, taken from his sister, and ten thousand, borrowed through Dolokhov.
Two witnesses - Khvostikov, a former clerk whom Dolokhov and Makarin used to play the game, a retired hussar, a good-natured and weak person who had an infinite love for Kuragin - were sitting in the first room at tea.
In Dolokhov's large office, tucked from walls to ceiling with Persian carpets, bearskins and weapons, Dolokhov sat in a traveling beshmet and boots in front of an open bureau, on which lay bills and wads of money. Anatole, in his unbuttoned uniform, walked from the room where the witnesses were sitting, through the study to the back room, where his French footman with others was packing the last things. Dolokhov counted the money and wrote it down.
“Well,” he said, “Khvostikov should be given two thousand.
- Well, give it, - said Anatole.
- Makarka (they called that Makarina), this selflessly for you into the fire and into the water. Well, that’s over, ”said Dolokhov, showing him the note. - So?
- Yes, of course, so, - said Anatole, apparently not listening to Dolokhov and with a smile that did not leave his face, looking ahead of himself.
Dolokhov slammed the bureau and turned to Anatol with a mocking smile.
- And you know what - throw it all: there is still time! - he said.
- Fool! - said Anatole. - Stop talking nonsense. If you only knew ... The devil knows what it is!
“Give it up,” said Dolokhov. - I'm talking to you. Is this a joke that you are up to?
- Well, again, teasing again? Go to hell! Huh? ... - Anatole said with a grimace. - The right is not up to your stupid jokes. - And he left the room.
Dolokhov smiled contemptuously and condescendingly when Anatol left.
- You wait, - he said after Anatol, - I'm not joking, I'm talking business, go, come here.
Anatole again entered the room and, trying to focus his attention, looked at Dolokhov, obviously involuntarily submitting to him.
- You listen to me, I tell you for the last time. What am I kidding with you? Did I contradict you? Who arranged everything for you, who found the priest, who took the passport, who got the money? All I.
- Well, thank you. Do you think I'm not grateful to you? - Anatol sighed and hugged Dolokhov.
- I helped you, but still I have to tell you the truth: this is a dangerous business and, if you look at it, stupid. Well, you take her away, okay. Will it be left like that? It turns out that you are married. After all, they will bring you under a criminal court ...
- Ah! nonsense, nonsense! - Anatole spoke again with a frown. “I’ve explained it to you. A? - And Anatole, with that particular predilection (which happens to stupid people) to the conclusion, to which they reach with their minds, repeated the reasoning that he repeated to Dolokhov a hundred times. - After all, I interpreted to you, I decided: if this marriage is invalid, - he said, bending his finger, - then I do not answer; Well, if it is valid, it doesn't matter: no one abroad will know this, well, right? And don't talk, don't talk, don't talk!

Place of Birth: Paramaribo, Suriname.
Date of Birth: March 13, 1973
Position: Midfielder.

Edgar Davids - the story of a football player with glasses.

Edgar was born in the Republic of Suriname. The parents of the future star were Europeans, and therefore the family moved to the Netherlands with the one-year-old Davids. From an early age, the boy began to get involved in football. In his youth, he studied in the football section of the ASV Schellingwoude club, from where, at the age of twelve, he moved to the Ajax football school, where he continued his studies until he came of age.

September 6, 1991 Edgar Davids first played on a professional level for an Amsterdam club in a match against Waalwijk. Since then, the footballer has become the main player of the club, with whom he won the Dutch championship, Kubak Uefa and the Champions League three times. Thanks to his tough style of play at Ajax, then-coach Louis van Gaal gave the player the nickname “Pitbull”. Having played 5 years for Amsterdam (106 matches and 20 goals) it was time to leave the club.

Midfielder moves to Italy

In early 1996, the midfielder moved to Italy, where he began playing for Milan. But he did not manage to gain a foothold at the base of the club, after played 19 games, the footballer moved to another Italian club - Turin Juventus. There he finds his game and reveals all his talents, along the way helping the team to win three Italian championships and one Italian Super Cup. His tandem with Zinedine Zidane was considered almost flawless in Italy. In total, Edgar Davids played 159 matches for the Turin club, scoring 8 goals in them.

In 2004, the player on loan goes to the Spanish "Barcelona", which at that time was experiencing a game crisis and was in the middle of the tournament table. With the arrival of Edgar, the team changed, began to play more aggressively, as a result of which they took second place in the championship, and the next season won La Liga, but this was already without Davids, since in the summer of 2004 he left Barça.

In mid-2004, he signed a three-year agreement with Inter. It was difficult for the player to play and get used to the new team, and already in 2005, after playing 14 games for the Milan club, the footballer broke his contract and moved to England, where he started playing for Tottenham. With this team, he quickly became a fan favorite. The only goal in the English club was scored by a player in the match against Wigan. Davids, playing for Spurs, twice took 5th place in the English Championship, and played 40 games during his two years with the team.

January 28, 2007 Edgar Davids returns to Ajax Amsterdam, where on February 4 he makes his debut in the match against Feyenoord. Despite his age, Davids showed very good and confident play on the field. In total, after returning, the footballer played 25 matches and scored 1 goal. Under Davids, Ajax Amsterdam won the Dutch Cup. After the end of the contract, the footballer again went to play in England, this time to Crystal Palace, but after taking part in 6 matches, the star player decided to hang up his boots and end his career.
