  3. At the service center, a technician will carry out diagnostics and, if a defect is confirmed, we will replace components with manufacturing defects free of charge.

Bicycles are not subject to warranty service in the following cases:

  • Normal (natural) wear and tear of components and parts (applies to all moving elements of the bicycle structure: bearings, as well as gear shift mechanisms);
  • Consequences of an accident or road traffic accident (including falling on a bicycle, except for cases where the fall, accident or accident is caused by a design defect of the bicycle);
  • Operating a bicycle in an unintended mode (as a cargo transport, an exercise bike, or in any other way that does not correspond to the purpose of the bicycle as a personal vehicle);
  • Neglect that led to a reduction in service life or failure of the bicycle or its individual components;
  • Consequences of improper assembly, adjustment, repairs carried out independently or by persons not authorized to carry out this work.
  • Improper handling and care of the bicycle, i.e. violation of operating rules.
  • Warranty obligations do not apply to cases of mechanical damage to the frame, chips of the paintwork or deformation of other components of the bicycle caused by mechanical or chemical influence.
  • The warranty does not apply to tires, tubes, wheel rims, shift and brake cables, drives, brake pads, chains, as well as front and rear transmission sprockets; failure of threaded connections, deformation of wheel rims and sprockets (gears).
  • In cases where the rear derailleur gets into the wheel spokes, the spokes will break.
  • In cases of intervention by the owner in the design of the bicycle, replacement of components of his own choice and modifications installed by the manufacturer without the approval of the manufacturer’s service department.
  • If the bicycle is used in stunts, sports competitions, ramp jumping, acrobatic exercises or other similar particularly harsh operating conditions.
  • The warranty is provided by the manufacturer on the condition that the owner of the bicycle will promptly carry out maintenance of the bicycle at an authorized dealer or in specialized service workshops authorized to carry out the necessary service work.
  • Warranty obligations apply only to the first owner since the bicycle is initially selected taking into account the anthropometric data of the buyer.
  • Covering the costs associated with transporting products is not included in the manufacturer's warranty. In the event of a warranty claim, the buyer must independently deliver the product to the service center.

Attention: The purchaser of the bicycle assumes all liability for personal injury, property damage or breakdown of the bicycle (or its components) and any other damages when the bicycle is used in a competitive event. The list of these includes any type of competition, both with and without official status: cross-country racing, freestyle, frame jumping, downhill (including biker cross and dual slalom), road racing, bike orienteering , multisport racing with cycling stages.

Bicycle maintenance and care:

Some basic bicycle maintenance can be carried out by the owner himself and does not require special tools or knowledge beyond that outlined in this manual. Such work usually includes cleaning the bicycle, checking the safety of its components and components, lubricating the chain, rear gears, derailleurs, etc.

Other types of maintenance and repairs must be carried out by qualified mechanics, using professional tools and in compliance with special procedures established by the manufacturer.

Before each trip:

  • Check all components of the bicycle for safe operation. If any defects or damage are found, contact a store mechanic immediately.

After every long ride in harsh conditions, in the rain or after every 150 km. mileage:

  • The bike should be cleaned of dirt and the chain should be lubricated. Remember to remove excess oil, the chain should not look too greasy!

After every 250 km off-road or 500 km on highway:

  • Apply the front brake and rock the bike back and forth. If you feel play, the steering column is most likely loose, contact your mechanic.
  • Lift the bike and turn the handlebars from side to side. If at the same time you feel jerking and binding in the steering, your bike's steering column may be too tight or dirt has gotten into it.
  • Grab the pedal and wiggle it around its axis. Repeat the same steps with the other pedal. If you feel any play, contact a mechanic.
  • Inspect the brake pads. If you notice signs of wear or the pads are not compressing the wheel rim enough, take it to a mechanic.
  • Carefully check the control cables and their sheaths for external damage. If they are noticeably split, broken, or show signs of rust, take them to a mechanic.
  • Use your fingers to squeeze each adjacent pair of spokes on both sides of each wheel in turn. Do all pairs feel the same? If you feel a difference, take it to a mechanic. Your bike's wheels may need alignment.
  • Tighten any loose connections.
  • Check and make sure that all threaded connections on your bike are securely tightened.
  • Check your bike's frame and fork (especially the areas where the tubes join), handlebars, stem and saddle stem for deep scratches, discolored areas and cracks. All this can be a sign of the onset of destructive processes caused by stress or fatigue in materials and design and indicate that the design life of the part is coming to an end and it needs to be replaced urgently.

After every 750 km off-road or 1500 km on highway:

  • Provide the bike for regular maintenance.

As discovered:

  • If any of your bike's brakes fail the function test, stop using the bike and take it to a mechanic.
  • If the chain moves from gear to gear not smoothly and quietly, but with jerking and biting, the gear shift mechanism needs careful adjustment.

Bicycle accident (fall):

  • First of all, examine yourself for injuries, and if you find any, immediately seek medical help. Then inspect your bike for damage.
  • After any accident or serious fall of the bicycle, you should contact a mechanic!

Attention: Like any other mechanism, your bicycle is subject to wear and tear. Different components have different service life and suffer differently from loads, stress and fatigue. If the service life is exceeded, any part may break suddenly and for no apparent reason, which can lead to serious injury or even death. Scratches, cracks, dents and discoloration are signs of fatigue and indicate that a part is nearing the end of its life and is time to be replaced. Only qualified mechanics can determine this with certainty. Therefore, failure to provide a bicycle for maintenance or violation of its frequency described in this section may cause the owner to lose the warranty on the bicycle, lead to sudden breakdown of the bicycle with subsequent loss of control over it, falling, injury or even death of the cyclist.

Safety when using a bicycle

  • Bicycle helmet. The most necessary accessory that can save your life! Don’t take risks, putting on a bike helmet should become a reflex for you before any bike ride.
  • Headlights and reflectors. If you plan to ride in the dark, then you will need a headlight and at least a rear reflector. Don’t skimp on this – it’s your safety. According to statistics, all cyclists involved in serious accidents at night did not have active light signals. You can also purchase reflective bracelets for your arms and legs.
  • Cycling gloves. This accessory will protect your palms from chafing and save them when falling off the bike. This accessory is especially relevant for beginner cyclists.
  • Cycling glasses. Don't neglect eye protection when traveling. Glasses will protect you from midges, dust and debris getting into your eyes during high-speed driving. They will also protect you from branches while traveling through the forest. In addition, you can count on them in case of a fall, because the glass in such glasses does not break. Never use regular sunglasses that are not designed to protect your eyes in extreme situations - if they break, they can injure your eyes!
  • Bottle Cage + Flask. When riding a bicycle, a person usually sweats a lot and needs to replenish the lack of moisture. Keeping the right amount of water with you to prevent dehydration is very important!
  • Bike lock. And finally, don’t forget to take care of the safety of the bike itself!

The warranty period for a children's bicycle is the period of time during which the relevant person is responsible for the defects of the children's bicycle if they arose through no fault of the consumer. The warranty is subject to . During this period, such a person is obliged to satisfy the buyer’s requirements established.

It should be noted right away that there is no legal obligation to establish a warranty period for a children’s bicycle; this means that such a period is set at will.

Important!

The law does not provide for the obligation to establish a warranty period.

Consumer Tips:

  • do not sign the warranty card without reading its contents;
  • if something is not clear, ask the seller;
  • check the correctness of the warranty card: as a rule, it should contain the following information: place of purchase, date, seller’s signature and store seal, as well as information about the warranty repair shop or service center.

Consumer requirements can be satisfied by:

  • manufacturer (performer),
  • salesman,
  • authorized organization
  • authorized individual entrepreneur,
  • importer

When does the warranty period begin for a children's bike?

The period begins to run at the moment the children's bicycle is handed over to the consumer, but a different beginning of the period may be determined in the purchase and sale agreement. if the day of delivery cannot be determined, these periods are calculated from the date of manufacture of the goods.

Important! It is not profitable to calculate the period from the date of manufacture of a children's bicycle! The product may be stored in a warehouse for a long time; in this case, it is better to check with the seller for the exact date of sale and calculate the warranty period from this date.

Moreover, if the buyer cannot use the product due to circumstances depending on the seller, the warranty period is suspended until the relevant circumstances are eliminated.

Warranty period during repair

During the period of repair of a child's bicycle breakdown, the warranty period does not expire.

Where is information about the warranty period found?

Information about the warranty period must be contained in the product information.

Typically, information about the warranty period can be found:

  • in the purchase and sale agreement;
  • in the warranty card;
  • on the check (receipt).

In addition, sources of information about the warranty period may be:

  • website of the seller or manufacturer;
  • technical documentation for a children's bicycle;
  • label;
  • marking.

Seasonal goods

For seasonal goods (shoes, clothing and others), these periods are calculated from the onset of the corresponding season, the onset of which is determined accordingly by the constituent entities of the Russian Federation based on the climatic conditions of the location of consumers.

if the warranty period is not established or has expired

if the warranty period for a children's bicycle is not established by either the seller or the manufacturer, then
claims related to product defects may be presented by the buyer to
to the seller or organization performing the functions of the seller, provided that the defects
were discovered within a reasonable time, but within 6 months from the date of delivery of the goods
to the buyer (in relation to real estate - no later than two years from the date of transfer
to its consumer).

When determining the reasonableness of the deadlines, it is recommended to proceed from
warranty periods established by state standards, and if they are not
established - from indicators of product durability established by regulatory standards
standardization documents.

The warranty for a bicycle is a very important factor when choosing and purchasing it. After all, a modern bicycle is a rather complex mechanism and the failure of one of the elements of the transmission, brakes or wheel parts can result in considerable financial losses if the bicycle is not under warranty. But all this is nothing compared to a breakdown or factory defect of the frame, the cost of which makes up the bulk of the cost.

In this case, a warranty comes to the rescue, which is obliged to cover the costs of repairing or replacing parts of the bicycle. The buyer should be careful, because many manufacturers and stores speculate on this concept and confuse the buyer. After all, the warranty period for the frame and equipment varies greatly. Since the frame is a part that does not have natural wear and tear, a maximum warranty period is established for it. Well-known bicycle brands, which have been working on the creation of their frames for many years, provide a warranty period of 5 years, and sometimes even for life, because they are confident in the quality and reliability of their products. But the equipment that hangs on the frame no longer depends on its manufacturer and can be manufactured by many different companies. For example, one of the most famous manufacturers of transmission elements, brakes and wheel parts, the Japanese company Shimano, supplies its products to almost all bicycle factories. There are also many lesser-known vendors that make bicycle components.

What documents are needed to guarantee a bicycle?

The store where you buy your bike must issue the following documents:

  • purchase receipt with information about model, color, frame size, date of sale and cost;
  • warranty card for the bicycle, also known as the bicycle passport;
  • user manual with repair and maintenance instructions;
  • original brand warranty card (not supplied with all bikes).

When purchasing a new bicycle, be sure to check the warranty period for the frame and the entire bicycle assembly. Also check that you have been given all the documents and that your bicycle passport is filled out correctly. Pay attention to the “serial number” field; it often contains many characters (letters and numbers of the English alphabet), because if there is an error there, then it can be difficult to prove that this serial number belongs to a specific bicycle. Keep these documents to not only provide warranty repairs, but also insurance in case your bike is stolen or lost.

What does a lifetime warranty on a bicycle frame mean?

As we wrote above, well-known manufacturers of bicycle frames are significantly increasing the warranty period in order to attract more buyers, as well as to prove that they are completely confident in their designs. The term “lifetime warranty” implies the ability to exchange a failed bicycle frame for a completely new one in the event of a manufacturing defect or failure under normal operating conditions. Such privileges apply only to the first owner (buyer) who purchased the bike or frame from a certified dealer in the country or from an official brand store. In this case, the bicycle must be registered on the official website indicating the full name, place of purchase and detailed information about the bicycle itself. Therefore, if you decide to sell the bike after a year or two, the new owner will lose the warranty altogether.

We also note that you should be careful and carefully study the terms of the warranty, because they often contain reasons why you may be denied service (we have listed the main ones below).

Where can I apply for warranty if my bike breaks down?

  1. First of all, contact the store where you purchased your bike. If you still have the purchase documents, then they will help you resolve the warranty issue as quickly as possible without any problems. It happens that a particular store has stopped working or for some reason refuses warranty repairs/replacement. In this case, go to the second option.
  2. Most manufacturers have the ability to register a new bike on their own website. If the place where you made the purchase refuses to provide warranty replacement of parts, you can contact the manufacturer or brand representative in the region directly and try to solve the problem through them. In this situation, you will have to bear the cost of shipping the broken part and installing it on the bike. But it rarely comes to this, because nowadays sellers are quite loyal and follow the warranty policy. Not only because they are afraid of punishment from government agencies, but also because of high competition and the opportunity to represent/sell products of a particular brand.

Reasons why a bicycle's warranty may no longer apply:

Even the most well-known, trusted and reliable stores or brands can easily refuse a warranty replacement if the buyer, who is also the user, does not comply with the terms of the warranty. Here are the most common reasons:

  • the bicycle was not used for its intended purpose. For example, a regular one was used for extreme off-road driving;
  • mechanical damage resulting from falls or traffic accidents;
  • independent replacement of bicycle components and assemblies with ones not provided by the manufacturer. This happens very often when the owner decides to increase the power of the brakes by installing a rotor with a larger diameter than the factory equipment provides. Or, for a softer and more comfortable ride, the user decided to install a fork with a large stroke.
  • you have repainted your bike or the paintwork is in very poor condition, indicating neglect;
  • you used the bike for racing;
  • The warranty is void if the frame serial number is removed or severely damaged;
  • you have lost your documents for your bike (passport, purchase receipt or warranty card);
  • the frame is incorrectly selected for height (most often less than necessary);
  • The warranty does not apply to bicycle components subject to natural wear and tear (tires, tubes, chain, sprockets).
If you have any questions regarding the warranty conditions for bicycles and their components, feel free to ask them in the comments or through our contacts.

After purchasing a new bicycle, a situation often arises when it is necessary to return it or exchange it for another model. This happens in two cases - the bicycle did not fit according to some parameters (size, color, etc.) or during operation some shortcomings were revealed in the bicycle. These are two completely different cases, in the first we replace (return) a bicycle of proper quality, in the second we replace it with an improper one.

The situations described above raise a lot of questions among buyers; finding answers to which on your own is not so easy. If you do not know whether the law provides for the possibility of returning or exchanging a bicycle, we advise you to find out before going to the store. In this article we will try to cover the topic - what to do if the purchased bicycle does not fit or a breakdown occurs after its purchase during the warranty period.

Exchange of a good quality bike

This is the most difficult situation that arises if the buyer does not take the choice of a bicycle seriously and does not take into account its parameters and characteristics. This situation arises, for example, when a bicycle does not fit in size and its further use is not possible. To understand this case and find out whether it is possible to exchange a bicycle for another, you need to refer to the law “on the protection of consumer rights.” We will not provide the full text of this law. Its essence is that the buyer has the right to exchange or return the product if it does not suit him in size, color or other characteristics within 14 days.

Many, having read this, immediately go to the point of sale and demand an exchange for a similar product or a refund. But in the case of bicycles this does not work. Since an in-depth study of the law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights”, you can find out that not all goods are suitable for this law. Thus, certain technically complex goods of appropriate quality from the list in the same law are not subject to return or exchange. The list of such goods also includes bicycles. According to Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 55 of January 19, 1998, bicycles cannot be returned or exchanged for a similar product of a different size, shape, dimension, style, color or configuration. From which we can conclude that the choice of a new bike must be approached responsibly, since it will not be possible to exchange it later.

Exchange and return of a bicycle of inadequate quality

If technical problems arise during the use of the bicycle or malfunctions associated with manufacturing defects are identified, then in this case the law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” will help us. The law states that a product of inadequate quality can be returned or exchanged during its expiration date, but this is if the product does not have a warranty period. A bicycle, however, almost always has a warranty period, with certain conditions.

Bike warranty

Most manufacturers provide a warranty for their bicycles. The conditions and terms for each company are different, but similar. Thus, attachments usually have a warranty of at least six months, and the frame from a year. The terms of the warranty and places of warranty service are indicated in the passport. After purchasing a bicycle, it is worth studying the conditions so that in the event of a warranty claim, you will not be denied service.

As a result, we can draw a short conclusion - it is almost impossible to exchange or return a bicycle. The maximum that you can count on is a warranty repair or exchange of the bicycle if the defects of the bicycle cannot be eliminated. This applies to all bicycles, sports, youth, children's and three-wheelers.
